- I found a super rare shell and it was awesome! There were other people around me so it could have been anyone, but I think it was my time. I've been looking for this rare shell for quite some time. I'm glad we finally found each other!

I just started the video, but had to get on here and comment. I am so, so, soooooooo happy for you!! Your Junonia found you!! My Junonia found me on March 7, 2022, because of you. I shared this with you back then, but here's a little recap. I was on a 2 week shelling trip to Florida. My last evening there I went back to the hotel to pack. I was exhausted and ready to relax. But then I turned on your video and you inspired me to go out one more time before I left. That's when my Junonia found me at South Lido Key Beach after a tractor had raked the beach and pulled up lots of shells, including my Junonia. You were so happy for me. For the last 2 years I have been hoping to see your Junonia find you. I am thrilled for you. You deserve this. Now, I'm going to watch your Junonia find you. WELCOME TO THE "J" CLUB!!
I do remember! I was going to write back, "This was on Lido Key" but you mentioned it. Isn't that feeling awesome? Like you KNEW you had to go back out there. I don't know how else to explain it, but I swear I felt it in the air. I am doing another little adventure at like 4am tomorrow - I hope I have more excellent luck! My wife and I were browsing TH-cam when my wife called out in a tone like something tragic happened….”oh my goooood!!!!” When she told me a J in the thumbnail occurred we were both ecstatic. It’s been a long time coming. We shell a few times a year on our vacations and I always say even sharmon hasn’t found one yet when we strike out. So happy for you! Well over due! …..on to the next one, let’s go to the beach!

Wow you are observant. Kice has "slowed" a little since the hurricane. I still love it, but it's making me work more than I used to. Next bucket list shells are: Any albino (especially FFC and olives), the cabrit murex, a sunrise tellin, any kind of helmet and maybe shelling in the Carolinas so I can hunt for different shells. I'm lucky that there are still so many shells out there I'd like to meet!

We just got back from our trip to fort Myers area a few hours ago. What a shell haul. My daughter also found a junonia. Not in perfect condition but mostly intact. It was awesome. Thanks again for the inspiration!,

Oh Sharmon! What a day! A Junonia! Now won't your name get put in the newspaper for finding the Junonia? Oh, I'm SO thrilled for you. Of course that was today's highlight, but I thought the green mussels were super cool. Those nutmegs were so colorful and varied. When I come to Florida, it's definitely my goal to get some of those as well as the gaudy Nauticas and of course, a good variety of fighting conchs. I loved the lacy murexes and the white crown conch. I must mention that I have a thing for paper figs. Sounds like I need to take one of those tours when I finally get to take that trip. You'll find lots of paper figs in the high wrack line after a storm on Sanibel. I find them all over, but they seem to really like Sanibel. I hope you find bunches if/when you come!

i found my Junonia almost two years ago during my FIRST ever trip to south west florida, particularly Siesta Key. There had been a bad storm the day before so essentially I had found a Junonia on my first ever day of shelling.

"I CAN"T BELIEVE THERE"S A JUNONIA IN MY SHELLBAG!" and five minutes after that, it's out again for another shot. I was thrilled right along with you! Glad you weren't too freaked out to properly appreciate those gorgeous alphabet cones, lace murex, :strawberry blonde" apple murex, albinistic crown conch, GOLDEN sunrise venus, and DARK nutmegs!

I once was on a beach in Baja; there were so many sand dollars that we used them for skipping on the ocean waves. They skip 5 or more times each. The rounded side facing the water. Imagine the wealth, to be able to do that without having regrets! Love seeing those again in your video. Thanks.

I love seashells but you really love seashells! I envy your knowledge. I'm landlocked and have only been to the beach about 5 times. If I lived there, I'd have to know as much as you.
It's like a mystery when you find a new shell you haven't seen before. There are a few books and websites you can refer to, but getting out there is the best way to learn. And I'm thrilled I can share what I've learned since I've moved here 😃

It took me well over a year to get my first horse conch and then this Junonia took me a LONG time. I don't mind the wait though. Anticipation can be fun too 😃 I've been watching the weather and I'm going to get up at 4am to do some low-tide night shelling tomorrow. I have a good feeling and hopefully I'll find some treasures without freezing my tail off! I hope you are in good spirits and I'm sending you love and sunshine from Florida.

Sharmon!! Yea! Yea! Yea!! I am soooo happy for you finding your junonia!! I have been watching you since the pandemic and it was because of you that I even realized that I had found a junonia on my only trip to Sanibel years before! I didn't know anything about shells before I started watching you so i didn't even know it was a special shell. I wish I could show you mine because it doesn't look like any other junonia I have seen. Mine is much shorter and kind of bulby kind of like the shape of a nutmeg and the spots on mine are more of a coffee color than the cinnamon color i have seen. Also one whole row of the spots are longer more like rectangles. But I still am so grateful to have it even if it is an anomaly like you have called some of the oddball shells!! I have been feeling guilty having one and not even realizing while you are at the beach so often and you weren't finding one!! Again I am so very, very happy for you!!
That is called beginners luck and I have seen it happen before. The newbie gets the junonia AND the scotch bonnet! It happens - I'm glad you got that out of the way so early in your shelling career 😂

Congrats on your first Junonia! And it was just sitting right there in the open! 27:20 I think is a Purplish Semele, the ribbing on paper cockles goes in fairly straight lines, but with this one it seems to be going outwards in a more rounded manner.
Someone else suggested the orange version of the purplish semele and I do indeed think that is what that shell is. I am definitely better at the gastropods! Thank you so much for the help!!
