Now, operating speed of TGV is about 320Km/h. Hayabusa of Shinkanesn is also 320Km/h. However everyone has been misunderstood, good of Shinkansen is safety and comfort and accuracy. Since opening in 1964, there is no big accident Shinkansen. Of course, the number of deaths of passengers is 0.
The odd nose is to make the train quieter upon exiting tunnels. With traditional shapes, they just compress the air in the tunnel and upon exit they make a loud sound (think giant cork out of a bottle). With this nose, the train gets to slip through the air more rather than compressing it.
If you come to Japan, please pay attention to the employees of Shinkansen. They are so proud to work. Driver, conductor, sellers, guide, sweeper. They are protecting the safety of the Shinkansen, comfortable, and trust.
Meanwhile in America, we have rusty, old, crudy trains from the 70s. Pretty sad, we used to be the pioneers in rail travel. We need to build these in America to connect our cities better and improve our infrastructure! Imagine seeing a Hayabusa in New York, or California! Make America's railroads great again!
"pioneers in rail travel" --- Nope, Britain was. Why do you people constantly live in delusions of grandeur. Everything about the USA is going backwards - education, health care, innovative science and even democracy itself.
The reason why Japan has high speed trains and America doesn't is because it doesn't have a massive military budget that just eats money without returning a profit!
The millitary budget doesent even make up 5% of the budget in the Us. The reason high speed trains arent prevalent is because of the entire car culture in the US. Also the Us is much more massive then japan so it would be more expensive. But Japan has done an amazing job at making high speed trains compatible with regular track. So i dont see a reason for staying with old trains other then just to be cheap.
High Speed Rail America Club - I'd always assumed that trains worked best in (relatively) crowded situations. Both Britain and Japan are tiny places, incredibly crowded, with very little free space. The USA is incomparably vast, so air travel seems like a more practical solution - perhaps like in Australia. (Please note: I'm no infrastructure expert - I'm just guessing, here.) Is cheap air travel still a viable thing in the States? I can understand the need for a good freight rail network for hauling stuff like rock and steel and coal in bulk, but slick looks and bullet-train speed wouldn't really be a factor there. (The super-slow but surprisingly efficient canal network worked well in England for centuries before road and rail took over.) On the other hand, why not develop a 'super' US passenger train just for the hell of it? It seems to bring nothing but good to Japan's international image. (China's already working on one, I believe, and China's a HUGE place.) Japanese rail travel is clean, fast, affordable, legendarily punctual, respectful... Hey, come to think of it, that must be why grouchy old Britain hasn't got anything as nice! Sigh...
I can't wait to visit Japan, I want to make a movie on the Shinkansen train and japans bullet trains when I purchase my SONY FS100 camcorder or CANON 5D MKIII. Haven't decided on which one to buy yet. What a great looking train the Shinkansen is Awesome
Actually the reason it looks "weird" is for aerodynamic reasons, having to do with tunnel entry / exit ... Japan has lots of mountains, so their trains often have lots of tunnels!
@HiroIndo16: As other have noted, the shinkansen is not paid for with taxes; Japanese rail has not been government funded for a very long time. Different lines make different amounts of profit of course, and JR uses some lines to subsidize others (the Tokaido shinkansen being their biggest cash cow), but that's their prerogative, of course; they understand that its in their best interests to have a dense and usable rail network, even if some parts are not profitable individually.
@Franni1996 it's shorter than the most popular normal tokaido shinkansen which has 16 cars in it. The longer 16 car one (not the one in the vid) is 404.7 meters long so thats 442.58 yards. This one is only 6 cars or 8 cars im not sure
It's to reduce the aerodynamic pressure. When a Shinkansen approaches a tunnel, air pressure in the tunnel rises, causing a large boom. To prevent that, they had to shape it like a platypus.
If you look at his country of origin, he's also from the Netherlands.. And BTW Canada did not choose their high speed rail provider yet. And Japan has exported to both Taiwan and Mainland China (CRH2) and the UK 395 train sets. It's also pretty much 100% sure that Japan will export their Shinkansen to Brazil very soon and even possibly the US in California soon.
What makes me really safe about these trains was because they actually build to handle emergencies like earthquake and typhoon. I don't believe that one single lightning couldn't stop trains from colliding with each others.
Maybe Shinkansen can be operated only by Japanese Professional. Because it is running at intervals of 4 minutes. It is running about 285 per day between Tokyo and Osaka. It is very overcrowded. But average delay time is about 30 seconds.(Even if it takes heavy snow into consideration) Driver need to manage the schedule of a second bit. Japanese loves a accuracy. lol
The railway company invited the public to name the new model. The most popular vote was actually "Hatsune" because of the blue-green color of the body. It's the hair color of Hatsune Miku, the most popular vocaloid. I myself preferred Hatsune.
That's Awesome, I wish my country was like that. I do admire the way the Japanese think and their education & technology, it's incredible. From electrical consumer goods like TV'S HI FI, Cars, Motorcycles, And my favourite Sony High end camcorders, and many more the Japanese excel in producing quality and efficient unmatched technology. Take a look at the Canon 5D MKIII camera with it's full frame sensor capable of shooting professional video. The Shinkansen is king in my eyes in the Rail world
One of the reasons i want to go to japan is to ride on one of these trains! We going to have one in 5 years from now but clearly not as good as Shinkansen hell we don't even know which country is going to invest in our HSR project first china and japan now even france and spain are interested in this project!
Once the upgrades to the Seikan Tunnel are complete, the E5 trains by 2016 will go from Tokyo all the way to a new station in Hakodate on Hokkaido, and I expect an increase in speed from 300 km/h maximum to 320 km/h maximum. In short, it's possible in the future we can go from Tokyo all the way to Sapporo in around four hours! ^_^
WE NEED THOSE HERE IN THE UNITED STATES. ESPECIALLY ALONG THE EAST COAST STOPPING AT THE MAJOR CITIES LIKE ATLANTA, COLUMBIA, CHARLOTTE, RICHMOND, WASHINTON D.C., NEW YORK CITY.
The only feasible line in US is Bos-Washi corridor. It only takes 20 minutes from Pen-station to Washington Central. However, duties of railway person is to be complicated,The working hours are extended and girls have to work at midnight.I don't think the trade union of Amtrack would say "Yes"in accordance with union-shop engagement.
Japan is still ahead of America according to The Economist magazine - Japan is ranked #1 on the innovation index. This is probably because Japan invents and patents more things than any other country in the world.
Actually, VERY few steel-rail trains around the world go faster than the Hayabusa's 320 km/h cruising speed. In fact, recently China's high-speed rail system had to limit its top speed to 300 km/h for safety reasons, and only a few stretches of TGV track allow over 320 km/h running.
Hey why the hate? This is a video of a cool Japanese train! It looks nice and the first class compartment (I assume it is) looks like a nice place to ride!
@tope1983 Yea I thought it looked weird too like the train was design to catch attention by doing the opposite of normal shapes which look elegant this one doesn't even look all that aerodynamic.
No, because USA is too big. Its much faster to fly by plane for 4 hours then 1-2 day bullet train. Smaller countries like Japan, UK, Korea and heavily crowded need bullet train to get to places without hassle from very short plane ride.
No political willpower. Yes, the U.S. is a much bigger country than Japan, but America has the resources to build a high speed rail network equal to the best in the world, at least in heavily populated states, such as California, New York, and Florida, so in reality it wouldn't be a problem. The issue lies in that there has been a very successful campaign of disinformation against any shifts in the transportation paradigm or improvements in mass transit, funded in part by Big Oil interests. I'm convinced that if more Americans were to experience a ride in one of these trains they'd demand construction immediately.
TrollBuster JR Tokai now reviews the linear motor car line between Washington DC and Baltimore, it runs at 587km per hour. This uses super conductivity. It is necessary to negotiate with the labor union of Amtrack because of the existing unionship. In addition it is out of custom for girls to work in passenger train cars in the US.
Cheers Ogucho. Yeah it's a shame, many people in China have forgotten what it means to be Chinese. Give it a few decades when the people become more affluent things might change for the better.
I don't mean this as a putdown but the front of this train reminds me a lot of a duck-billed platypus!! The interior looks very nice and comfortable, though.
There will be high speed Shinkansen trains that will run between Dallas & Houston,TX in the future, California is building its high speed rail lines. The Florida East Coast Railroad operates Brightline between Miami, Ft. Lauderdal & West Palm Beach,FL, they are going to build a line to Orlando & the Tampa/St. Petersburg,FL metro area and are planning to extend Brightline up to Jacksonville,FL.
High speed rails for the US arent really as needed. Europe is way smaller and people need to get around. Trains in the US are usually made for sight seeing, like Amtrack. They have little commuter value, not including the subway.
Japan is attempting to sell not only the train sets, but the system as a whole. The shinkansen system is complex, it won't fulfill it's promise without it. So it tends to get more expensive than other nations.
Seriously. Do a Wikipedia search of the accident. According to the schedule, D301 train (Crashed into D3115) was supposed to be in front of the D3115 train (in front), so drivers weren't following the schedule in the first place. Besides, even if a train stopped from lightning, the CTCS-2 system should have prevented the D301 train into entering the tracks, which indicates a flaw in the train managing system. Therefore, the accident was a result of a design flaw and human error.
Hey guys guys guys, please don't compare anything between Chinese and Japanese. They both were different in many things. As for technology, Chinese are surely couldn't beat Japanese at all. So, Japanese are no compare to Chinese in any ways.... period... Chayooo Japanese....!!! You are truly one amazing people....
@snogglethorpe Before privitization in 1987 already the Tokaido, Sanyo, Tohoku and Joetsu lines have been constructed. I'm not certain but I'm sure some tax money went into the construction of the Nagano shinkansen and Kyushu shinkansen.
+ed tyler Yeah I know. The E7 and W7 series do also have the luxurious GranClass car! And nope, I haven't forgotten the E6 series which doesn't include GranClass.
Relax, all the time people were copying each other and learning from each other. That's why, every time when people are getting closer and can share information easily progress accelerates. Japanese are using Chinese characters alongside with their own alphabets to write, native Indians are using mobile phones and wear T-shirts and people calling black tea, which does not grow in England, "English". P.S. Superb train!

China.... 2 years in service, already an accident with many people dead. Japan... first high speed rail in the world for 50 years now, not a single death due to the high speed rail despite being the most used high speed rail network in the world with over 10 billion rides. TGV and ICE are also great, but they have had accidents unlike the Shinkansen.
How fast was this train going? And is it possible to stand up while the train is moving really fast? I know the second question sounds really silly, but I just wanted to know anyways. Cheers! 😊👍🍻
I would like to remind people that German Eschede train disaster killed 101 people while China's Wenzhou train accident killed 40 people. Pushing the boundary of technology always carries certain risk and I applaud the Japanese for having the safest HSR system but I am not going to condemn others as technology will fail but we can learn from the failure.
@hiashiro1 hi, yes i know that japan have higher standar of life than china, and have no idea about the fastest train in china, i only know that china bought the tknology of the high speed train from germany, of course japan are strong and doing good, the thing is that china become stronger very fast even with their population of 1,3 bilion

Almost 10 years, and that train stills look brand new, and even more modern than almost everything else.
I Love Japan..

The best safety record holder.
Thankyou japan for bullet train gift to india.... Japan is a great friend of india...
Japan is best^_^
I definitely love Japanese products they shape the world we live in today and bring seriously high quality goods to the planet
Actually the reason it looks "weird" is for aerodynamic reasons, having to do with tunnel entry / exit ... Japan has lots of mountains, so their trains often have lots of tunnels!
Beautiful contribution.
Cool! Wish we had one of these to run between Seattle and San Diego.
this is a awesome and beautiful train .I love this train
awesome. now waiting for maglev to run
damn Japan...just show us your gundam!

Japanese trains are THE best in the world - and by "best", I mean the ones with the best design, offering the most comfortable rides. ^_-
Roy Wang Lol.... you're too funny. And btw I'm not Japanese.

Roy Wang why all that pointless silly hate? lol

Too bad, Our beloved country Indonesia goes for China Highspeed Railway not Shinkansen type.
What makes me really safe about these trains was because they actually build to handle emergencies like earthquake and typhoon. I don't believe that one single lightning couldn't stop trains from colliding with each others.

How come they don't have BULLET TRAIN in the good ole U.S.A.? ;)
Government run, no funding, automotive society. Japan rail is private companies. Different transportation culture mindset, beneficial geography, etc.

Yep save it help to prolong our car/bike engine life. So I will ride only on weekend or holiday..yay
Wow! This debuted just 6 days before the major earthquake. So the train only went on service for 6 days!

Right
@HiroIndo16 what taxes? Japan's train companies just have ticket sales, and they are the only profitable train systems in the world.
awesome..i hope i will design this type of train for my country-bangladesh!!!
What's the output on this Bullet Train?

In the context of Japan vs Korea, America is not in the picture.
love the train but those colors hafta be re thought... maybe just a shiny black!
