I still remember the journey in Shinkansen in 1982 from Tokyo to Osaka. Its punctuality, speed and comfort truly commendable.Thank you Japan

Japanese trains are so bloody brilliant. I was in Japan on holiday and went on the Shinkansen. It was like a magic carpet ride. The Shinkansen is not only a technological masterpiece, it is also a work of art. I'm going to Japan again at the end of March to teach English. I can't wait to go on the Shinkansen again! I highly recommend it. You won't be disappointed.

By luck, I saw the 500 Series departing from Hakata at 11:05 (Kodama 740). That day was also my first time on a Shinkansen.
The design of it is timeless. Will never forget that day.

I love these! They come like every ten minutes, they're probably the smoothest trains ever (it really doesn't feel like you're going that fast from inside) and they go everywhere. Really convenient.

Speed does not kill. The hard deacceleration on impact is. Fail safe engineering and good safety practices have given Japanese railways the very best safety record on the planet. Even European railways have not matched this safety record. Sorry to say but our North American Railways are the pits in the modern industrial world. Our whole railway culture and infrastructure is in need of an upgrade.
Phillip Mulligan Amtrak said they're going to upgrade the NEC from DC To NYP From 135mph to 220mph by 2030 and the NYP-Boston Section by 2040 from 150mph to 220mph
Well they should do it instead of promising it for over 20 years. Promises are cheap. Real progress toward an end result in a timely fashion is priceless.
I hope Japanese Shinkansen will be adopted by North American governments. It may be more expensive than Chinese high speed railway systems, but extremely safer than that. So considering total cost it must result in more economical eventually.
But we have the most efficient freight system. America is not set up for high-speed rail systems. It is easier to travel by car or plane.
If you hadn't of got rid of the Brits then you'd have a good railway network

初代の場合はモーターがほぼ全車両についており、そのため、取り込む電力量も多かったので2両に1機ぐらいの割合でパンダグラフがついていました。
しかし、500系ぐらいになるとモーターが高性能化してきた＆消費電力が少なくなったことで16両の車両でも2台のモーターで動かせるようになり、パンタグラフは少なくなりました。
また、騒音に関してはパンタグラフの周囲にちょっとした壁を設置したり、形状をひし形からTの字型（たぶんE2かE3、500系あたりから）に変える事で風切音を減らすことにより騒音をおさえています。
また、架線でも電線をジグザグに張ることでパンタグラフの減りを均等にしています。
アメージング！って叫んでた方がかわいすぎる(´°ω°`

All the trains comes on exact time unless they have some kind of trouble such as bad weather, jump-in etc..
When it says it comes at 2:35-pm, it's here at 2:35-pm.
But it's not automatically controlled.
They are doing it with watching stopwatches!

USA will have to do something. The more they are sliding in the suburban and car disaster, the more they will need those new infrastructures to take over and re-centralize the entire functions of their communities.
I miss the Shinkansen. Take you an hour to get to Kyoto from Tokyo, spend the day and then hop on the Shinkansen for the ride back home.
I just came back from japan a few days ago on a school trip. we went on the shinkansen a few times but we only realised how fast it was when it goes past you on the platform! god, we shat ourselfs!!

The first one is the maglev train which runs along a test track west of tokyo. I've seen the high tech bridge running into the hill on a coach to mount fuji. Aren't I lucky to have spotted it. YIA

Even in case of big earth quake shinkansen could stop and stand proudly. Shinkansen can get earth quake P-wave before S-wave. Japan built sensor for earth quake in surround ocean of all over Japan.

しかも鉄道スピード競争には日本のリニアモーターカーが営業されたら事実上の決着はついたも同じ。営業を考えないパフォーマンスとしての580キロのTGVには何の価値もないが、最高速度580キロで営業運転500キロのリニアモーターカーはパフォーマンスではなく現実のものとして準備を進めている。
ますます日本とフランスの差が開く一方だな。

It is really rare the case shinkansen delay. Train moves accurately as the minutes on timetable. Only a few second would be range of margin.

「パンタグラフが減ったのは、集電性能の向上により１台で安定供給が可能となったから」、という資料を見かけました。
初代でスパークが出ていたのは架線との接触が安定していなかったせいかもしれないですね。
５００系以降も２つ装備されていますが、片方は予備とか。
一般の電車も同様の傾向にあるそうです。
新幹線の場合、今もモーターは全車（全台車）に搭載されていて、高速走行を可能としているそうです。

500 Nozomi series my favorite
旅客機の離陸速度が500km/hって書いてあるコメントがあるけど、実際は230～280km/hぐらいで離陸してるよ。ジャンボでも。そういう意味では新幹線でも離陸速度超えてるよね。巡航速度は850～950km/hは出てるけど。

東京で生まれ育ったせいか新幹線も魅力的なんだが夜行列車のようにゆっくり走る電車が好きだな。駅弁食べながら景色を見る。
