  • Check out MERCH through my Etsy shop! www.etsy.com/shop/AwenLutherie Welcome to Awen Lutherie and welcome to the third (and largest) instalment to my entry to The Great Guitar Build-Off 2021!
Building on last years fantastic competition, I’m looking forward to doing a seriously cool build to try and one-up myself. All boxes are being ticked this year,
    ✔ Multi-scale
    ✔ Fanned Fret
    ✔ Carve top
    ✔ Semi-hollow
    ✔ Neck-thru
    ✔ Carved Pickguard
    ✔ Inlaid Pickguard???
    ✔ Custom Tailpiece
Hopefully you find the build interesting, and maybe you'll stick around for the videos to follow!
A lot of you may know and notice that I am building from Crimson Guitars HQ in Dorset this year, but I am not endorsed, sponsored or helped by Crimson in any way except by use of their fabulous workshop.

I'm always amazed to see people carving with an angle grinder. If I tried that, I would just put a bunch of holes through my piece.

I have to say that the idea of a hollow body with inlaid pickguard is nothing short of ingenious and I love the design and the entire concept of it

I initially wondered why you had such a thick piece of timber for the pick guard. I don't think I've ever seen anyone do something like that with a pick guard. I learnt something new. Thanks.

This is epic. I’ve needed a little project for lock-down, so refreshed an old strat…averagely, but still love the result. Your work, though, is inspiring and makes me want to try harder to do something to be super proud of (or ruin trying 😅)

Wonderful guitar. It will be hard to top your guitar from the 2020 GGBO but I think this one will. The inlay is very nice but your choice of how to do the pickgard is sheer brilliance. So looking forward to the next vid!

Most of us go to great lengths to get rid of the pick-guard.... you found a way to make it a design element within the top. That is cleaver at the very least. Every time I say, I'm done making guitars, someone comes along with another idea that I just have to try. I did have a hollow Jaguar on the drawing board, that never got started.. Hmmm.

  • @martyo11

    Looking great Sean!
    Two questions:
    1) Is there a reason you don't use the propellor trick Ben uses on the dremel to clear the sawdust out of the way so you can see better?
    2) Why did you drill the holes in the back of the top before using the angle grinder? It seems like the grinder would have removed that extra wood without too much effort... Was it just so you had a visual marker of how far to go down with the grinder so you didn't grind through the whole thing?
