    Late in 1976 I separated from the USAF and with my wife of 3 years relocated to Seattle Washington. Over the next 6 years I would learn to sail and with some friends from work we would often take a San Juan 24 (?) out for the afternoon during good weather. I would often see the Pacific Seacraft Orions moored at the marina and my mouth watered. These boats displayed all of the outward appearance that I longed for in a sailing craft. After talking with a few owners at the next boat show they became the embodiment of my dreams. In 1982 my mom took ill and we relocated back to the east coast and my life and career became a roller coaster ride. That dream went to the bone yard years ago and now, at 70, it's a distant memory. I have been watching your channel for about a year, up until about 2 years ago when my life started to demand more of my time, but now that I have some time again I turned to your channel and watched the last few episodes with some interest until you mentioned Pacific Seacraft. The very moment I read those words I knew this was the boat for you. That feeling, and my judgement, certainly may have been influenced that you're getting to live a dream that was only a fleeting moment in my life, but I am so very glad for you. They are the stuff that dreams are made of. Their builds are robust, and after having watched 3 seasons of your channel before stopping I was certain this was the one for you. This particular boat will have issues, they all do, but every time you sail into a harbor all eyes will turn to you, your pulse will race and your heart will know that you are alive. When the broker finally called with the good news, the tears came freely and with joy for you both. I'm looking forward to catch up now, I hope the new boat is turning out to be everything that you hoped for and will serve you and the pending family for years to come. God bless you both and thank you for permitting me to get a small glimpse of a long forgotten dream. May the winds forever be at your backs. 💙💙💙

      I like what Maggie Braun has to say and I will add 1 more thing. The people that Bully you probably have some problem with their home life. Maybe Mom and Dad drink too much and take it out on their children. In order to feel better about themselves they try and tear you down to make you feel Less Than them. Don't let that work. When you graduate your life will change for the better, you will be in charge of your life. Hang in there kid and don't let the bastards get you down.

    • @timothypope6556
      @timothypope6556 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I was bullied like a lot of kids, I was small in school. I went from 5’2” in 10 th grade to 5’8” in 11 th grade and finally 6’2” as a senior. He kept hitting me just about everyday in 10th grade, then in 11 th grade. He started to do it again and I finally stood up to him, after that he left me alone. Sometimes you just have to stand up to them and most of the time they back down. Try talking to them and being nice, if they continue your best bet is to go talk to your teacher or counselor. It’s always best to avoid a fight, a lot of time they do this because they feel inadequate or their parents might be hard on them. I saw him about 10 years later in a different state and we had a couple of beers together at the bar we were at.Try to forgive them and put it behind you, that way it does not cause you problems later in life. Forgiveness is always the way.

      Dear snow owel the only reason they bully you is because of you stop being a pussy an hook those jumper cables up makem see sparks shure u might get your ass beat but that hurts alot less than living with regret the rest of your life !!! Dont use that but they bigger than me xcuse eather ...have u ever seen a Philippinena fight they small a hell but that nevr stop them from being world champion

      Brings back memories. Be kind, speak from strength/skill, be honest. Learn to defend yourself by sidestepping the aggressor, and letting them make fools of themselves,.Back it up with skills. No one wins if someone is badly hurt. A black eye, busted lip....a lesson learned. Someone maimed or killed? No one wins, totally unforgivable.

    • @Eddie-jr6bs
      @Eddie-jr6bs 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Sorry to hear that. I got bullied. Not bad. Basically moved from a good neighbor hood to a bad; then my dad got on some punks for stealing stuff. I got chased a lot mostly. I took some judo at the local rec ctr. That gave me some self esteem. It’s tough, but in a couple years, if you avoid them and do your homework, life will be good. They will probably end up working for you! Meanwhile, find a cool adult you can talk to, and let them know. You don’t need to do it by yourself; grow up ya know; it can be tough. But it’s fun too, then, you get to do really cool stuff. Like project Atticus! Right! Be good humans. Smile; it’s disarming.

    Alternator brushes stick when they are on their way out. Same thing happened with Taylor's Travels recently.
    Most people would replace with an upgraded one so that you're sure of it's reliability and performance.
    Thank you for including us in your lives. We all appreciate it.

    • @anthonygillesse7242
      @anthonygillesse7242 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Alternator are pretty reliable, most common issues are brushes, bearings and diode packs. All inexpensive and easy to replace. But if you’ve got lots of money go for an $800 Balmar. I prefer a Delco that you can source parts worldwide.

    • @wjhann4836
      @wjhann4836 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The brushes are a major matter - yes.
      Perhaps there may even be an old mechanical regulator that is stuck. If that's the case I would recommend to replace the regulator by a modern from Stearling or Mastervolt - these are amazing. And with such a modern regulator you do a step towards a lithium system.
      If there was an newer alternator than the motor: I heard that modern alternators need high rpm (some 6000) - much more than a normal diesel engine. So there should be a speed transformation via belt rims. Perhaps a new larger pulley might improve a lot.

    Count the days and see when you felt that this is your boat and the strangeness goes away when you don't notice the new to you smell when you go down the companionway in to the salon, when you don't waken in the middle of the night to the new sounds your boat makes. i personally feel uncomfortable for a few weeks with a new to me boat, and one day i just realize I'm HOME!
    Congratulations on your new home, she is a beauty.

    Congratulations guys. I have always wondered how much boats would cost to buy in the US. Anyway, congratulations again and may God bless you and your boats and future journeys with joy and safety :-)

    The best part of your new home is no real estate taxes. Older alternators are a PIA when they sit to long without use. Many times when you buy a used car that has sat a long time these rascals go out. I would put a new one on and rebuild the old one as a spare because sailing the world it could become very hard to find one if you need it. Cheap insurance. At least until you can afford to go solar. Congratulations and thank you for this incredible series of this part of the journey it will become a go to for those interested in the buying process. Not to mention the original owners will get to watch their treasure create so many amazing new memories through y'all.

    I saw that this was posted earlier and just got the chance to watch it. First, congratulations! Second, awesome video that lead me through all (at least most of) the emotional roller coaster of finalizing the transaction. As I watched the end, I could almost feel the exhaustion that engulfs one after resolution of days of anxiety about your future. I could imagine the comfort of reclining in the evening for your first night aboard....and the interrupted sleep that comes from every unexpected sound during that first night. A new home with strange new sounds...she moves differently to the waves...and everything seems amazing and wonderful - but strange. I wish you quick accommodation to your new home. Thank you for sharing the journey to Atticus II. I look forward to the journeys of Atticus II. Much love and comfort to you both.

      Very elegant boat i hope it provided you wirh all that you need ro travel the world. Oit of curiosity where did you get the money? . We are thinking of building a catamaran but we don't have the money yet. We hooe you will consoder sailing to usla mujeres again and doind a meet and greet so we can meet you and see your gorgeous boat in person. Wishing you many best regards and fun on the water and think good and well before raising children on a sailboat. Who will help with passages. I saw a video of sv Delos where kazza seemed pretty bummed out and i admired her honesty when she said everything she enjoyed about sailing prior to having her baby she no longer enjoys. I admired her honesty and you would do well to take heed to what she said. I know she recanted becuase i think she had to. She didnt want to come off negative about having her baby. Bryan always looks exhuasted becuase he has to do all the navigating while she cares for the nugget. I guess if you have a third person on board who can help share the shift on passages or help with a baby that helps a great deal but if not how will you manage? Have you considered what will happen if you have a special need kid? Its something to think about long and hard. And eventually when your child grows up, is going to need friends, and social interacrion, i think all around sailing is very challenging at times and with a child on board will add to those challenges. Not to mention financial aspect Speaking from experience the illusion of having children is different from actually raising them. But we wish you the very best and cant wait to see you happy onboard in your new home. Its gorgeous

    The alternator has brushes, when an alternator goes “intermittent”, it usually means that it’s due for bearings and brushes. No big deal. I always try to put the largest, most capable alternator on board. Beautiful boat!

    • @mikestone234
      @mikestone234 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Tim Sawyer dude.......you rebutted me, by agreeing? Yes, alternators have brushes.....that run on “slip-rings”. A DC motor has a “Commentator”. Either way, it’s a graphite composite that makes an electrical connection on a moving surface,(brushes).....thus, why they need to be replaced periodically, along with bearings.

    • @anthonygillesse7242
      @anthonygillesse7242 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike your right on the money, alternators have brushes and if they are not worn the springs that apply pressure to the brushes corrode in a salt water environment. Just love people that don’t know what their talking about. Good to know your systems when your stuck somewhere remote and West Marine isn’t around the corner

    • @anthonygillesse7242
      @anthonygillesse7242 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @tim sayer The brushes on the slip ring determines your output. Output is determined by voltage applied to the brushes by the voltage regulator low voltage low output higher voltage more output. I’m always amazed that people throw gear out that just need a little attention, I think they call it more money than brains. Lots of information out there to fix stuff.

    Sounds to me like there was no sense of urgency on the part of the seller/broker. If you were different people, they may have lost the sale. And I'm impressed that Bernie busted into the broker's office to light a fire under somebody's butt. I agree with you - even a short message like "we're very busy re-arranging our sock drawer, but we're reviewing the numbers and will be in contact soon" would have done a lot to allay your anxiety and improve relationships. But the grief seems to have been well worth it - she seems like a beautiful and well founded vessel that you'll have many great adventures on! Thanks for bringing us along. Thoroughly enjoyable series (and I thought it was tough to buy a guitar); looking forward to the next episodes.

    First rule of negotiation, always be prepared to walk away. The second rule, never tell the seller how much you love an item.

    • @rayf8162
      @rayf8162 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      If the seller’s broker knew you were holed up in a hotel room with all of your gear and ready to move on board then your “walk away” power was seriously compromised. Similar with international business deals - never let the other side know when your flight back home is scheduled to depart, your counterpart will run down the clock every time to force a compromise. (2k comments already - maybe this has been said somewhere below) Best wishes and congratulations on your new home!

    • @seandelaney1700
      @seandelaney1700 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Concur with the first rule, but I have mixed feelings about the second. These are very emotional transactions to both parties, wouldn't you rather like who is taking over your love, someone that appreciates it like you do?

      @@seandelaney1700 Have you ever read Donald Trump's the art of the deal? No matter how you feel about him you ought to read the book. In this instance because they weren't willing to walk away they lost $5,000, plus what did they say it took 2 weeks extra for the seller to come back with a second offer. Look at the extra cost for the hotel room alone. The seller knew how eager they were and that's why they drew it out to find out just how eager they were. The other thing you got to remember the two greatest days of a boat owners life are, the day you buy it and the day you sell it, they should have used the second day to their advantage. Personally I would have walked away, what's the old saying the next one who blinks loses, they should have waited for the seller to blink.

    • @seandelaney1700
      @seandelaney1700 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@satguy I read a fair bit of it a long time ago. They came up in price because the alternator started to work. In the end their offer was accepted, it was just nerve racking and yeah, it was bugging me too about the hotel. I'm sure the seller knew his boat worked so wanted to see it for himself, which he partially proved and saved $2500. It is hard to know why the seller stalled later when he ended up accepting the last offer. Overall I think they did well. And they got possibly their best video out of it.

    I would like to say as someone who just sold their house and is moving in 5 weeks. 1.) it is NOT irrational to be anxious when you do not hear back from a buy for a period of 24 hours and it is ok to invest your heart into something. 2.) NOT trying to cr*p on anyone's agent or broker, BUT there should be a bit more communication in my experience. Just a "hey, working with the seller and they are busy" helps to calm nerves
    It is your future home and nerves, anxiety and tiredness are definitely going to be there. Love you guys are your channel!
