This segment, the search process, is really interesting as it teaches a lot to one who will never own a boat but enjoys the sailing life by proxy. Thanks for sharing. You guys are great fun to watch.
The forward 'sail locker' looked to me to be a perfect cot / berth for a small child! You could even sleep on the pullman berth to be close but slightly separate when they are little. As a kid I would have loved that as a cosy little hiding space, right up the end of the boat. :)
I totally agree, that way they would have three sleeping areas, one for themselves & 1 each for their future 2 kids they want to have. Besides, they could put the kids on the shorter side of the table where they sat in the video & sit on the other side which is longer & more spacious. Seems to me like there's plenty of room to sit a family of four around the table 😀
The only downside to this is having the kids in there sleeping while under way in bumpy seas. Having been a kid in the front birth on many a bumpy ride, it was not a comfortable sleep. Especially as the bow is the most turbulent place while under way, not great if you're feeling queasy. Would occasionally wake up mid-air after a particularly large wave.
I’ll make this short and sweet. I absolutely LOVE you two. You are the neatest young couple on all of TH-cam! Sometimes I thought you were nuts on Atticus 1 with all the constant maintenance. But you now have the knowledge and experience to move forward. Can’t wait to meet the little ones.
I love how you bring your years of actual sailing and living experience into your analysis! As a newbie just starting to look at sailboats you provide me with great insights for my own search. BTW - I love how real you two are. The way you share your life allows me to understand the real issues of living on a sailboat full time and it makes for really interesting videos. I'm so excited for you to find your new home and see you sail away with her!
@20:25 Thanks for the unintentional rif on "Stepbrothers... So many activities! you could do Aerobics. A steps class.... Made my day. Congrats, sounds like you found your boat!
This one is really interesting. With a second furling front sail, and potentially a spinnaker in a sleeve, you may not need to put sails in the Pullman's front "room" at all and it actually could be a separate baby/toddler sleeping room. While they are still small, it could sleep two. And the berth next to it could be play space. Smaller dinner table space? Kids growing up in the boat will not know differently and feel at home anyway because that's the feeling that comes from you, not the sailing estate.
This is the best answer. I wouldn't want to live on any boat with 2 kids but could with one. This boat ticks that box for 2 kids. Especially if they are planning on sailing for 10 years. I think their thoughts are until the kids get early school aged. I would have loved doing this with my son and wife during his young years.
I couldn't agree more with you JPdJ. With another furling headsail and sheathed spinnaker, there is really no need for a sail locker. What an ideal place then, for a sleeping place for a new family member.
Have you already considered a Island packet? Really good liveability and comfort ,that is even more important than fast sailing. Your ‘children to be´ will feel safe and that way develop pleasure in sailing. When you’re heeling a lot ,it’s not real fun for small children. Good luck with searching !
One of my favorite elements of your channel is the large amount of diving and snorkeling footage of untouched reefs you post. My wife and I spend hours snorkeling off shore when we head south. Our best experiences are from the 3 to 5 hour snorkeling excursions that we’ll do. Patience and just slowly floating and searching has brought countless finds and experiences. Love seeing the pristine reefs through your lense. No one does it better, and believe me I search every winter. Thanks🙂
i just started watching your show so i have a lot of catchup to do. i started watching the two year old videos and then realized that you wouldn't see my comments. and i want you to know how much i love your show. you are amazing people. you manage to make the viewer feel as if he is on board. thank you.
So glad I woke up to this episode this morning! It certainly left me with a smile. I'm so excited for you guys to start your family. I have a 4 and 6 year old and I promise you that they would be in heaven on this boat. At that age they really just want to be glued to your side watching every little thing you do or stitched to each other all day playing and making a general mess of everything, for you to clean up. Can't wait to see what you two settle on.
I can feel your excitement. So fun to share! Really interesting to read the comments too. You have quite a community here. So thank you for all your sharing. It means so much, especially during this past year of semi-isolation. .
I’m sure you guys don’t read these but if you do just like to say that these boat reviews are awesome. You guys really put in extra effort into the research of these boats and it really shows in your reviews, they are so in-depth and informative. This boat really looks beautiful, can’t wait to see the v birth layout, hopefully it will be more spacious in the living area and just right for your family aspirations.
I love the way you are so methodically doing your research before buying. I suspect you will avoid buyer's remorse because you have such a clear idea of what you need and what you want. I so hope that next week will see you find the perfect boat. Your patience deserves to be rewarded and you are such nice people that I really hope you have your dream come true.
*Slow chant* atticus II, Atticus II, ATTICUS II... You guys were right with your comments about the Valiant on the kickstarter thread. Valiant has an amazing floor plan. The aft cabin and bathroom alone are perfect. The mechanical room is great for a boat this size. Even the canoe stern cockpit is reasonably sized. The Pullman layout is a bit of a sacrifice for sleeping and eating area, but the storage space could be worth the trade-off especially for baby supplies and equipment. You will be astounded how much room baby stuff takes up. Might even fit a little washer/dryer combo (so much baby laundry). Happy to see you find a great boat in your budget. Can't wait to see the travels in Atticus II. Good luck with checking out the v-berth layout and locking one down if that's the better fit.
Hi all This is the guy that lent you a motorcycle in Roatan. I love my Corbin 39 much the same as a Valent, difference is mostly a deck stepped Mast and the fact that I built it myself. Good sailing
I own a lovely Perry Tayana 37, the Valiant is a wonderful choice and I’m happy for you! I have a photo of a 40 that broke free from its mooring during a Winter storm in Puget Sound. It washed onto rocks in West Seattle and was pounded hard for over 24 hours before salvage could arrive. It suffered without hull water intrusion, only very little damage to the rudder. You will love the sailing performance and many other fine characteristics of this boat.
I love this boat. You could not do wrong with a Valiant. I have an 05 with a V-birth and I’m not giving it up. Soft ride, powerful sail plan. Rock solid. You will love it.
Wow, oh wow, oh wow.... this Valiant 42 is amazing in so many ways. It could easily be home around the world for the next 10-12 years. Love you buds! -Dennis and Sares
Yes, those Valiant 42's are superlative boats. Broker Bernie Jackits is an interesting person himself, having over 100,000 miles at sea and owning many boats, from a 28' Bristol cutter to a Hallberg Rassey 53. You could spend many evenings with him and never run out of sea stories. He currently owns a Valiant 42 so knows them really well. He helped us find our boat last December and was awesome to work with.
This channel does an amazing job of reviewing sailboats with all the details and insights you provide. Really high quality content. I wish you good fortune finding your next boat and I look forward to watching the next episode.
Ohlalala Desiree and Jordan, wahou I am so happy for you guys that this one might be THE one. Can’t wait for your trip next week to test out the boat and the other configuration. I have 2 kids and I definitely see myself on this boat. Plus, the cabin at the front, with the removable window is just perfect wen you have a little baby (changing station and nap area)! Also, you might want to add a net on the guardrail to prevent little onces from falling, and this will be super easy, thanks to the wholes in the aluminum piece. Oh and what a great kitchen!!!! So so so well designed. Not to mention the yoga/sport area ❤️ Can’t wait to hear about your experience next week. Sending you good vibes from Montreal, Canada 🍁
Valiant 42 seems like the perfect boat. The forward storage on the boat you looked at would be perfect for storing all the parts, tools, and extra clothes. Having all that storage, especially with four on board would be ideal.
I LOVE THAT BOAT!!! So awesome and beautiful! I hope you are one step closer to finding your new home. Thanks for sharing your journey. Also, 7:42, TOTAL CUTENESS ALERT!!!! You buds are adorable!
I really appreciate these boat tours/reviews that you guys are doing. You think of so many things that I wouldn't otherwise consider. Also, Jordan and I are about the same size, so it's very useful to see how he fits in some of the typically tight boat-spaces. There is no such thing as the perfect boat, but I think this one suits you better than any you've looked at so far.
This has been one heck of an informative and entertaining series of videos. Keep on keepin' on! I eagerly await the time I can again wish you fair winds and following seas.
G'day Desiree & Jordan, of all the boats you've looked at, the Valiant 42' is the best bluewater, open ocean cruiser mate (Buds :) They're built like a bloody tank, solid ~ but sail like a true performance cruiser mate. I wish it was the V-Birth Model instead of the Pullman, but regardless, they're both AMAZING CRUISERS. The craftsmanship is absolutely impeccable. I'm personally not a fan of the doublev-ended profile, just my preference mate. The interior layout can be a wee bit congested,, but nothing you can't figure out. Beautiful woodwork and joinery. The hull design has definitely been put to the test in the most radical offshore conditions and has passed amazingly well. Plus, the Valiant 42's hold their value extremely well. Truly a remarkable boat mate. Cheers from Margaret River, Western Australia 🇦🇺.
Its so great that you guys are producing videos with such informative reviews! So helpful for others who are trying to do the same thing! Wish there was more of this when we were searching for our boat!
I'd say the search is done! It's just a question of which interior design I guess. This has been such an interesting journey to follow. Thanks so much for taking us with you. Can't wait for the final tour of the boat you purchase. Live the Dream!
Love this boat and watching your positive enthusiasm for it. Your positive attitudes as life partners always lifts my spirits as your progress towards your goals together, learning, living and loving, continues! Thank you
Lovely. Maybe create an opening from the pullman to the "sail locker" like the one from the quarter berth. That might help with ventilation from the forehatch. I agree with the suggestion about the sail locker as a child's cabin. When they get to ages 4 and 6 our feeling is no saloon will be big enough when they get stir crazy. Being able to spread out to separate spaces (enclosed cockpit, qtr berth, nav station, saloon, pullman, forecabin) is going to be more useful.
I love the pullman berth layout and especially the sail locker/tool shed. The one thing I’d expect to see are the berths on opposite sides, but that wouldn’t be a deal killer. Good luck 👍👍👍
Would love to see this as Atticus 2! I'm actually a truck driver and never sailed before but I really enjoy watching your sailing adventures. Thanks for the great content! Keep the adventures coming!
Hi guys, I think this one is the boat for you. The different sleeping areas allow for a growing family. Everything else is there to make a it a safe boat. Nice wood interior. Lots of character. I fully agree with Rachel Pooley below: the sail locker would be just the thing a little kid would crawl into.
You guys should totally speak to friends with 8yr old and younger kids. I think you’re viewing the boats through the lens of young adults not kids. For example this 42 forward space would be ideal for a kid until 2/3 yrs and super safe. Also the table in saloon would be fine for a young family. This boat shopping journey is great. Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
These presentations have been enormously helpful. You folks really thought the presentation through, reflecting great care. I believe you've set a standard for evaluating a boat. Love the fact you have an impartial critique from Mr. Kretschmer and your broker (who is also surprisingly non-partial, yet naturally focused on your individual needs). Thank you for these efforts!
I Agree the Valiant 42 is amazing. For a Family the kids would love this. Safety and coziness. This would be a practical, balanced and perform well. Is my vote from every thing so far. Cannot wait to see the V Berth version. ty from Florida.
Hey, buddies. i am 55 yrs old very active sailor with a 1984 Santana 23. My time of being a young father showed me that kids up to age of 10 or 12, normally adapt to sailing mood very easily. Everything is an adventure and Discovery for them and for the parents too. 18000miles of south Caribbean cruising and two Caribbean expeditions from Venezuela to Antigua, allowed me to enjoy those times with no worries about their comfort and possibilities. Of course we were not living on board, but it is just a little insigh.. a 42ft robust boat like this will me more than appropiate platform for sailing family of 4, but also can tell you an 53 ft Amel Mango or Maramú can be found in a similar price range over tje Caribbean and Venezuela, and that is a struddy ocean going sailboat with tons of space. Of course we are talking about 30 to 40 yrs old boats.
My boyfriend is fangirling right now (I am too), he did some work on the boat you guys were on. He works in Annapolis MD. We want to do a liveaboard and live the boat life. My boyfriend has a '27 Hunter and does all his DIY. We watch your videos, especially when we are doing our own boat work. I hope one day I will be as knowledgeable and skilled as you both! Stay safe and sail on! ⛵
If you are still looking, try an FD12 50ft sloop. I had one and believe it fits most of your criteria except it is big enough to take guests or crew too. We sailed from the States to NZ in ours over 5 yrs. Wonderful adventure.
A pretty good looking boat for sure. I love the deck space, hand holds and the enclosed cockpit. I can see sleeping out on the top deck with a tent like structure to keep the sun and rain off. That pullman berth has a lot of nice storage up front not only for sails but also stuff for the boat and kids. Small kids don't need much space either. For the reefing up on the mainsail set up some D rings so you can clamp into the boom or mast with your harness like your friends Dan & Kika have on Sailing Uma. If you can't find a Najad 440 then this would be a pretty ideal boat. Thanks for sharing!
YES hard attach points on the mast free up both hands for reefing - long tether for jackline, short tether for mast. If you need to reef then you need a harness.
"And another thing I love about this boat"...."and another thing I love about this boat"..."and another thing I love about this boat"... ;) It sounds like Y'all are in love. Jordan finally found a boat that fits him! That Yoga deck is going to make a great spot to set up a Pack n Play. That quarter berth is AWESOME
I’m happy for them, they seem to have done their homework for sure. I’ve spent most of my life working on the water and watch these episodes make me want to do it all over again. LOL, maybe not all of it. Thanks for the dreams kids!
Not sure why, but I am so excited about this boat hunt! I think about it between episodes and wonder whats next. I've never been sailing but this is tickling my interest. Good luck buds.
@@reginasimms46 But the boat provides a win for both lines of thought. That's some marketing guru shit right there and no one has been actively trying to sell it since... er... Lovely weather today 22c sunshine etc. nice. Ooooh look! Kittens.
Congratulations! I hope you decide to get this boat. Sounds like it is pretty much a home run. Desiree, you look extra beautiful with make-up on and your hair flat ironed.
Oh the suspense. Can't wait until next week now. That is one sweet boat. It's not overstated but has some great features. Love the Nav station. The kitchen is awesome and yeah that window at the stairs to the bed, perfect! I can see you making some changes to her to fit your style and with your knowledge and no how you will make it work. Getting excited to see the big purchase. And I love this series. The graphics are great and they flow nice. You guys have done a great job. Video and editing quality are way up.
Nice tour. I do very Much miss you two sailing on little Atticus!! And I’m sure she’s missing you two a great deal. After all you both gave her another fun life. So on to next week. Thank you both 😎⛵️
Love it. I love a canoe stern, there looked like ample room to work on the engine but let’s not start having to fix things. My favorite boat was a Hans Christian . I fell in love with the lines an the almost plumb bow. I owned a Malabar jr. it was just right for me and my sons as my wife would not go out with us. No blue water cruising. I think you have found your new home. Good luck 🙏😊❤️
Really nice boat..!! These videos have been Fantastic, glad to see the process and the boats, can't wait to see the other version of this boat..!! Thanks for sharing..!!
I personally am delighted with this boat. In my opinion it seems to meet most of the conditions. Right from the first sight it looks well built, solid, practical and on top with a very elegant line. I'm sure Jordan already has the skills to adapt to their style of being, the few inconveniences he's discovered. Yes, I fell in love with this boat and I would be very happy for you if you could buy it. From my point of view, there would be just a "small" problem that needs to be solved: the price, but I like to believe that in the end your dream will come true. I wish you from the bottom of my heart good luck and Fair wind and a fine one !
Great boat! V-berth model will likely suit you better. Have you guys not considered Island Packets? You were hot and heavy on them a year or so ago. There are some great gently used IP40's on the market...
Thanks for sharing, you do a good job. I am feeling super excited for you! That has cheered me up after a hard day with the students in the workshop........
A good workout space was what I was thinking 20 seconds before you said it. This type of space is a big concern for me. It looks like most boats don’t have this type of space. As I’m at the beginning of old age it’s seems to be way easier to “grow” even without doing anything “wrong”. I definitely need a good workout space I can use on a regular basis to avoid growing. It’s a major concern for sure for me also because I think I would go little nuts without being able to get a good workout in on a regular basis. It seems to clean clear and reset what ever needs be. Plus it just feels so darn good to get a good sweat in.
Yup, this feels like the right boat to me! The storage in the v-birth could easily be reconfigured for little kibblers and they would be nice and close. Agree solar array should be upgraded and remove the generator. Good luck in your decision. We really liked this one.
I really like your enthusiasm for this boat. From what Mr K said, the spirit of Texas is in the design of this boat and I love that. Pardon my bias but I live here 😍. I like the big galley too. Desiree will have a stress-free learning curve, and besides, I heard her say she would love to cook in that space. Still, it would be great to take it for a spin just to check off your concerns on being valid or not. ❤️ you guys.
I looked at boats for over a year and did a lot of research. As soon as I got on a Valiant 42 the angels finally sang. Everything I opened, inspected, explored, observed my reactions was "wow". The factory tags every wire and pipe so you know where it gores and what it does. The interior is solid cherry furniture. The floors you saw. No shortcuts on hardware spec, everything oversized. Everything accessible. Best stainless steel welding work I've seen on any boat. Beefy backing plates on every fitting. The list goes on. My point? Imagine the Texas crew knew nothing about boat building but had the perry specs. Imagine they were told "do your best and comply to standards (e.g. ABYC) and build something to be proud of, and something you'd put your family in". this is the result.
This is the Atticus II....It seemed like everything you loved about Atticus, but new and improved. Can't wait to see how this works out for y'all. Praying for blessings for y'all, and that k you for taking is along on this journey. The production quality of these vlogs is stellar, btw.
I must say it is really good to see you getting opinions from real good Experts and having an open mind as to how they'll fit into your choice. All the best from Canada
First ever V42 galley review that didn't even highlight the amazing pantry - one of the best features - I hope you found a V42 CE Queen to buy. 2 years ago there was a good selection on the market, they all got bought up, leaving only a few with tradeoffs - like no arch, enclosure, vane for example. I really want to see you out on one of these. Can't wait to see you testing out your friend's boat and seeing your reaction to the layout and the way these sail.
With a 4 and a 6 year old you would sit them on the Port side. and you two would be on the Starboard side. Also with a new high output alternator you might be able to get rid of the generator and have some extra storage or equipment space. With the open port on the pullman berth you need to remember that the boat is still usually going to point into the wind so you can sew or have sewn a funnel that fits around the port and points forward that would bring air into the pullman and it would flow out into the salon. Valiant is a good boat. It is sturdy. In it's day it was a performance cruiser. Today it is a bullet proof passage maker.
We have the first Valiant 40 built, no 101. It’s the first boat we have had where we have never been seasick...
No one builds boats like Uniflite did!
Hey Paul! Do you live in the Puget sound area? I love those old Bellingham boats!
I have hull #163 SV Koyah formerly sv Dore'
We have hull 129. In the San Francisco area. V40 best boat ever!
The boat series has been some of your best. You two have become good videographers. Btw, the last boat is lovely.
This segment, the search process, is really interesting as it teaches a lot to one who will never own a boat but enjoys the sailing life by proxy. Thanks for sharing. You guys are great fun to watch.

I am so impressed with your use of proper nautical terminology. It is so important as in learning them you also understand function sail on
I love this series of your channel! Y'all do this better than HGTV can
Would love to see this as Atticus 2! I'm actually a truck driver and never sailed before but I really enjoy watching your sailing adventures. Thanks for the great content! Keep the adventures coming!
A sailor on a concrete sea! Old Johnny Cash song
I am glad you know what you are looking at, so knowledgable.
That’s the boat for you two. Love your videos and I’m really looking forward to seeing you two make your little family
Valiant 42 has always been my #1 win the lottery boat. Good luck in your hunt. Watch out for boat pox on earlier versions.
Am sharing the excitement vicariously! Wish you two so much joy and safe waters.
You are my favorite TH-cam sailing couple. I've been watching for about a year and I'm looking forward to seeing you sail again.
I'm in LOVE with this boat! Sometimes you really do get what you pay for. Can't wait to see which boat you select!
CONGRATULATIONS, maybe premature, good luck with the negotiations, you guys are going to Love this vessel! Happy Sailing.
I’ll go with the valiant 50, there is one for sale right now , built on 2002, it has more room to raise a family.
Exactly. Or the Valiant 47, which is basically the same boat and considerably cheaper. I mentioned it in a comment last week.
Oh sure, throw in another 100k and and you can get a lot more space!
"And another thing I love about this boat"...."and another thing I love about this boat"..."and another thing I love about this boat"... ;)
It sounds like Y'all are in love.
Thanks for the dreams kids!
cleat covers and prevent lost toes on cleats.
Wow ! Just wow! What a perfect boat ! Maybe consider this one now and a larger one as the family grows
Not sure why, but I am so excited about this boat hunt! I think about it between episodes and wonder whats next. I've never been sailing but this is tickling my interest. Good luck buds.
Desiree: This deck is huge, I can do my workouts and yoga here.
Jordan: This deck is huge, I can put a dingy right here. ;)
NP - during yoga time (anchored) the dinghy will be in the water - win/win
Men and women think so differently!! Is the point. 🤣
@@reginasimms46 But the boat provides a win for both lines of thought. That's some marketing guru shit right there and no one has been actively trying to sell it since... er... Lovely weather today 22c sunshine etc. nice. Ooooh look! Kittens.
I love this and the space for physical exercise for each of you. I look forward to seeing a walk through of the other 42.
Nice boat. You two ever consider an Amel? They seem like they'd be right up your alley.
It's awesome to hear how excited this boat made you. Best of luck!
This is getting closer I can't imagine how excited you both are on every front! Can't wait to see next week's package!
This a Valiant, this boat is what serious sailors choose for safety and comfort. You will be world cruisers in this boat!!
Your Valiant 42 is at the Jabens Yard in Annapolis, blocked opposite Steve Madden's shop. He helped us a lot, giving good value for the work done.
So excited for you that you may have found your “next chapter” boat! Love being part of your adventure. Thank you!
Nice tour. I do very
Much miss you two sailing on little Atticus!! And I’m sure she’s missing you two a great deal. After all you both gave her another fun life. So on to next week. Thank you both 😎⛵️
Good luck you guys , I know your new home is rite around the corner 😉⛵️⛵️🥃👍
Loving the search videos. Im learning so much from your research as I plan to make my own way towards a sailboat for retirement.
That really does look like the one. Marvelous in every regard. And you looked happy to be on her, good vibes all around.
Really nice boat..!! These videos have been Fantastic, glad to see the process and the boats, can't wait to see the other version of this boat..!! Thanks for sharing..!!
These boat tours are excellent
Congratulations on 200 k subs. love you guys. Hopefully you have much continued success!
GOOD CALL!!!! I have had the Tayana 37 and now a Baba 30 both are Robert Perry and both are amazing boats!! hope it works for you 4:)
Grats on 200k ! Can't wait to see what decision you guys make and start taking up the adventure once more.
Valliants are super boats got Atticus all over it.!! Good luck in deciding guys..im hanging out for yr next Adventure😀😀😀😀
Great job on this little boat shopping series. I'm loving all of the information!
This is it! Add "granny bars" for mast/boom reefing. Install a hatch above the forward berth, other simple updates.
Awesome Guys. Can’t wait to see next week. It’s got to be the ONE 😀
Can not wait to see you two enjoy your new boat.
John needs his own "History of Sailing" channel. The guy knows his stuff!
Amazing boat, seems like the V Berth model is the right one for your guys, I hope you can find one soon.
Haha Doc, maybe they already did!
Man thats a good one for sure. Great video guys. Looks like this one has everything.
After 38 years and 3 sailboats, as a woman, I'd go for this one just for the galley! 🤣😂
Mind you, I've never been aboard a Valiant.
Buena Suerte!
@@davidharris3534 David seems like a strange name for a woman 😂
“Sale pending” on yacht world.
I definitely learn a lot watching your channel. Especially in the past month or two
With a 4 and a 6 year old you would sit them on the Port side. and you two would be on the Starboard side.
