      Hi, im currently 33weeks,6days via LMP, is it fine that during my ultrasound my baby head circumference is 2 weeks late by the size? Im worried.

    • @TheMaternityMentor

      @@jellycaalvaran2285 Thanks for asking. Unfortunately, ultrasound is not an exact science. Every day is gets better and better but there is still a chance that the measurements are off. That being said, your due date could also be off. Babies heads can be larger than the rest of the baby's body. Humans are not symmetrical so that is quite normal. I would ask your doctor when you can start to use natural methods to help soften your cervix in preparation for birth. There is some evidence that babies with larger heads pose challenges to a vaginal delivery. However, a cervix that is soft and ripe for delivery may help mediate that issue. You CANNOT start using homeopathic remedies until at least 37 weeks and then only under the care of your provider. There is a lot of neurological development that takes place between 37 and 39 weeks so its important for your provider to help guide and recommend what to use and the frequency of use. Some methods include: red raspberry leaf tea, evening primrose oil, bouncing on an exercise ball, prenatal breast pumping, walking, and sex. Again, do not do this without your provider's ok first. However, once they give the approval this may help.

      @@jellycaalvaran2285 I am not an expert on reading ultrasounds and you should always refer to your provider for medical advice. Your measurements look good. Babies heads are supposed to be bigger than their bodies. Those measurements are both consistent for that gestational age at approximately the 75-80 percentile.

    Hello! Thank you so much for this info! I did have a question about the use of Clarithromycin 500mg 2x/day for 5 days. My wife took it at 26 weeks and was wondering what your thoughts were. Thanks again!!!

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for asking. There is limited safety data on Clarithromycin so it is recommended to use a different antibiotic first. However, most organ development has occurred by 26 weeks and therefore the risk of birth defects decreases significantly when taking a medication during this time. Good luck.

    Hello I hope you can answer me, I’m having a really bad sore throat is it safe to take amoxicillin? I’m almost 5 weeks pregnant. Thank you.

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for asking! Amoxicillin is safe for use during early pregnancy. However, you want to make sure you have a bacterial infection like strep throat before taking it. Amoxicillin will not treat a viral infection and therefore would be useless in treating your symptoms. Instead, you might be better for a viral infection to use salt water gargles, honey, lemon, and cough drops. Be sure to take all the medication if it is a bacterial because the infection can come back worse if you don't. Strep throat can be very serious and lead to a heart infection so be sure to take the medication if that's what you have. Good luck and feel better!

    I am 20 weeks pregnant and having UTI symptoms. My doctor is not available so I saw another one on the second day, after experiencing mild symptoms. I was prescribed Fosfomycin 3 mg/single dose even though my urine culture results are not out yet (I expect them in 3 days, when I’ll see the doctor again). The urine tested negative for nitrites, WBC, blood, glucose, ketones, etc.
    I’ve increased my water intake and I’m taking cranberry capsules 480 mg daily as prescribed.
    Should I take the Fosfomycin or wait another 3 days to see the doctor again with my urine culture results? Thank you!

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for asking! UTIs can be very dangerous during pregnancy and can cause preterm labor or miscarriage. Fosfomycin is safe use during pregnancy and is effective at treating UTIs. However, if you are experiencing minor symptoms and you are monitoring your temperature, you can wait for the culture. However, this is not recommended because UTIs can cause serious illness quickly. Instead, they will switch out the antibiotic if they find it is not effective for your strain. I am sending you love and light and healing thoughts.

    Hey I hope I get an answer
    but I was prescribed metronidazole for an std / Sti and I am 8 weeks pregnant I took 4 at one time as instructed on my prescription I googled and am seeing it's not good to take (2017 but also seeing that in recent studies (2020) they came to the conclusion that it wasn't linked to anything harmful to the fetus. What is your input on this ? Or advice ? Do I need to worry ?

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for asking! The latest studies don't show any adverse effects. The STD that metronidazole treats can cause miscarriage. Therefore, the benefits of taking the medication far outweigh the risks. I have seen it used many times. Take the medication as your healthcare provider prescribed. • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for asking! Yes - it is safe to take Amoxicillin for longer and it's very important you do. If that infection gets worse and into your blood, it can be very dangerous for your baby. Keep a close eye on the cut. If it gets worse, go back. you may need a different antibiotic. Also, make sure you take all the medication as prescribed, even when it starts to look better. If you don't, the infection can come back worse. I am sending you love and light and healing thoughts.

The doctor at our local hospital gave me Cefuroxime Axetil 500g to be taken 2 times a day for 7 days to treat my condition(my OB was not available at this moment) but after 2 days of taking it, I felt itchy in my genital area-I am currently on my 4th day in this medication. I was also diagnosed with UTI way back in my 2nd trimester and my OB gave me Co-amoxiclav to treat it and I also felt an itchy genital while taking the said antibiotics. I went back to my OB and had him known my condition and he said my UTI was gone already and what I was experiencing was BV.Why I am always feeling itchy down there whenever I take antibiotics? Is it because of a BV again or could be just a reaction to antibiotics? I do look forward to your response Ma'am.Thank you!

    Hi! I'm 11 weeks and 3 days pregnant and prescribed "Celecoxib instead of co amoxiclav", I just Took 2 capsules of celecoxib Is this safe? beacause i am worried about the safety of my baby.

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for asking! Celecoxib is not a preferred antibiotic to use during pregnancy however it is safe for use during pregnancy when the benefits outweigh the risks. It's important to treat infections because they can cause preterm labor and miscarriage. I would speak with your healthcare provider and ask if there is a safer alternative available as well as the risks and benefits of taking this medication. If it is determined this is the medication you should be taking, be sure to take all the medication as prescribed by your healthcare provider or the infection can come back worse. Feel better!

    Hi, I am currently on my 13 weeks. I was prescribed with Antibiotic called “Cephalexin” … but after taking it for 2 days, i started to feel my genital area being itchy. I also feel nauseous when I take the tablet.

      @@TheMaternityMentor i reported it to my fam doctor and they said i can stop using it, taking it for 3-5 days is already fine.
      Here’s my situation. Last Sunday night I was feeling unwell, i started to have fever and started to have body pain and lower back pain. I had been puking 5 times that night even I took the anti nausea medication. I also have headache.
      The next day (Monday) I went to Urgent Care, coz I was really awful and told them about my concern and symptoms. They did blood work and pee test, I took tylenol coz my fever was getting high while waiting. They said I have UTI. I was only admitted for 6 hrs, they gave me an IV so I wouldnt get dehydrated coz I couldnt keep down food and had vomitted. They gave me antibiotic and Gravol which is an anti nausea. They ran them through the IV as well.
      The next day, I felt like my headache was coming back and started to feel unwell again, I already started coughing too. I did the antigen covid test and I got positive for covid.
      I was thinking that the diagnosis was wrong in the first place if they could have just tested me for covid as well. My family doctor reviewed my lab result from urgent care and found that I dont really have a UTI and that my symptoms could be from Covid. I was advised that I can stop the antibiotic then coz i told about the vaginal itching. I know you were saying that it needs to be completed or it will come back worse but how can i finish it if it wasnt really about UTI?

      Thanks for asking! Yes it is safe to take those medications during pregnancy but they should be separated. Iron is a funny substance that can sometimes affect the absorption of other medications and vitamins. Take your vitamin C and Iron either 1 hour before or 2 to 3 hours after the antibiotic. When you have completed your course of antibiotics, go back to your regular schedule. If you can, please like my video and subscribe to my channel. it really helps me out! Thanks!

UTIs can cause miscarriage and preterm birth if left untreated or treated poorly. Nitrofurantoin is extremely effective which is why it is often used for pregnant women. Talk with your healthcare provider and ask if a different medication can be used. Also, make sure you take all the medication as prescribed. • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! Augmentin is definitely safe during pregnancy including during the first trimester. One of my past jobs prior to being a nurse was working as a pharmacy technician. Pharmacists are licensed in regards to dispensing medications. They are authorized to switch out medications that are equivalent when one medication is not available, especially if the medication is urgently needed like an antibiotic for an infection. The most common scenario for this is when the provider writes a prescription for a brand name drug and its switched for the generic or vice versa. I wonder if your provider wrote for the generic which is Amoxicillin Clavulanate and they gave you the brand name Augmentin instead. If you are concerned, always talk with your provider but Augmentin is safe.
      As far as the yeast infection goes, I completely understand. Antibiotics are rough for women. Pregnancy makes it worse. Ask your provider if you can add a probiotic for the next few weeks. Also ask what they would prefer you use in case you develop one. I actually have a video on yeast infections during pregnancy. Here's the link:

I would reach out to your healthcare provider to determine if there is a medication that has a safer profile for pregnancy. I am sending you love and light and healing thoughts.

      Also wanted to note, I called the pharmacy and got the okay to open the capsule and add it to a small cup of unsweetened 100% cranberry juice. (The pills are way too large for me to be able to swallow since I have GERD). So I will be taking the medication in a small cup of liquid.

    Hi good day, my wife just got her laboratory in urinalysis yesterday, her pus cells is 5-8 and RBC is 1-3,it made us worry because it might she has uti...
    We hesitate to go her midwife and check her result because we afraid the antibiotics that be given to her because my wife is now in her 38 weeks,..
    Is it safe to take antibiotic even she is 38 weeks pregnant?.
    Hope you will notice my message ma'am 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

      Thanks so much! It is absolutely safe to use antibiotics at 38 weeks pregnancy. In fact, if she was to have a cesarean section, they would automatically give her antibiotics prior to delivery to prevent infection. Please get her treated now. If the UTI is left untreated, she could get very sick and have sepsis in a week which can be life-threatening to her and the baby. Both of them will be ok, if she takes antibiotics. Good luck!

    I take fluimucil for my cough is it safe for pregnant?

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for asking! Fluimucil is a medication used to thin mucus in the lungs. This medication is considered safe for use if the benefits outweigh the risks. It is not an antibiotic which means you should be able to take it as needed. I would discuss the use of this medication with your healthcare provider and determine the risks/benefits of taking it. If it is helping you breathe better, that is very important for your baby. If it is just for symptom relief, it may be best to limit its use. Feel better!

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for asking! Amoxicillin is safe for pregnancy! Furthermore, I am glad you are getting your tooth infection treated. Teeth infections can lead to miscarriage and preterm birth which is why it is so important to get them treated. Continue to take the antibiotic as prescribed, even after you start to feel better. If you stop the medication too early, your infection will come back and be harder to treat.
