      Hi
      My daughter is 4 months and I am again pregnant so can it is safe to continue breastfeeding..?

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AyraIbrahim2020 Thanks for the question! It is usually safe to breastfeed while pregnant. However, I always advise you consult with your healthcare provider. Make sure to watch your daughter's weight. The hormones from pregnancy will usually change your milk back to colostrum in the middle of your pregnancy. If this happens, your daughter will not get enough nutrients and may need to be supplemented.

      Hi I'm currently 4 months pregnant and breastfeeding my 1 year old still. Is their anything I can do to increase my milk supply for my 1 year old? I milk supply has lowered and I've tried mothers milk and fenugreek to increase but its not really working. Can I pump to increase milk while pregnant?

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@Time_Patroller_Michael_Mini Thanks for asking. No, you should not pump. Pumping can stimulate uterine contractions and that can lead to preterm labor or miscarriage. It is actually normal between 4 to 6 months of your pregnancy for your milk to revert back to colostrum. This is your body's way of preparing for the new baby. It doesn't happen to everyone but it can happen. I am also sorry to say but you should not be drinking the mother's milk tea anymore. There are some herbs that can cause uterine contractions. You should ask your healthcare provider about the fenugreek but I would not suggest it. It is absolutely safe and acceptable to continue to breastfeed your older child while pregnant. However, most traditional ways to increase milk supply are not recommended while pregnant. My suggestion would be lots of skin to skin contact with your 1 year old when breastfeeding and frequent feedings. Good luck!

      @@TheMaternityMentor thank you so very much for the reply. I didn't know that I couldn't drink mothers milk tea anymore. I've been trying to increase milk naturally but its been soo hard since I've been pregnant 😩. I feel that my little one is latching on more often and suckling harder but I no longer feel the let down reflex like I had before.

    It was a helpful video. I am 12 weeks pregnant and my baby is going to be 1 year old soon. I am still breastfeeding but it’s starting to feel very uncomfortable. Even though I would like to keep feeding my baby for 2 years I am considering to stop, but after watching this video I just don’t know what to do, maybe I’ll should eat more? Or should I just start giving her Formula? Anyhow my baby is too young and she is getting upset, I am feeling awful for wanting to stop 😢

    I really appreciate all this great information that you have share with us. I have a question. I have a 6 month old baby girl, im breastfeeding her and now i just found out im pregnant again. Will my breast reproduce milk as colustrum again when I give birth or will it reproduce regular milk since im already breast feeding? Hopefully my question is clear and you can help me

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Congratulations!! You're question is totally clear, so don't worry. Honestly, it depends. Every woman is different. Most of the time it turns back into colostrum. For your 6 month old, this means that she may wean herself and stop breastfeeding because colostrum tastes different and there is usually less of it. For other women, they maintain a full milk supply the entire time. Right now, make sure you monitor your little girl and ensure she is gaining weight properly. If she starts to lose weight, you may need to supplement with formula. You don't have to stop breastfeeding if this happens, simply add formula into the mix. If you can, please like my video and subscribe to my channel. It really helps me out! Thanks!

Is it possible for a baby to know that mummy is carrying another baby inside and then react differently maybe by losing appetite for other food and instead just want to suck more or even feel rejected bcuz mummy is pregnant without waiting for them to at least grow to a certain age

      Thanks for asking. The average pregnant woman should eat approximately 2000 calories per day. A breastfeeding woman should add approximately 500 calories extra per day. • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for asking and I'm sorry to hear this is happening. Yes - I would stop. Your breast milk is probably turning into colostrum and decreasing in volume which is making your 1 year old hungry. This would also explain the crying. You need to switch your older child to milk or formula. Good luck!

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for asking! Unfortunately, I can't tell you for sure. Some women continue to produce a full milk supply up until delivery and after. Other women's milk will turn back into colostrum which is not enough to feed their current baby. The change to colostrum usually happens around 6 months of pregnancy. Be sure to monitor your baby's weight and output. If your milk does dry up, you cannot use herbs or pumping to increase your supply. This is not good for your pregnancy. Thanks

      @TheMaternityMentor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks for subscribing! From a breastfeeding perspective, no. It is going to help with your blood pressure and blood sugar which are concerns for women as they age with pregnancy. The only issues with breastfeeding while pregnant are the following. 1. It is possible that it can trigger preterm labor. It is rare but possible. You need to monitor for signs like back pain, cramping, abnormal discharge. Make sure you are staying well hydrated and monitor for signs of infections. Infection can trigger preterm labor and the breastfeeding may exacerbate that. The most common infection being a UTI. I have a video on this and will include the link. However, if you have a history of preterm labor you may want to consider that in your decision to continue breastfeeding. 2. Monitor you 15 month old to ensure they are getting enough to eat. Now at 15 months old, I am sure they are eating regular foods and drinking other fluids but still just keep an eye on things. This is because your milk may switch back to colostrum at any time. This is normal and is just your body's way of getting ready for the new baby. If this happens, your 15 month may also self wean. Good luck and congratulations!

      Thanks for asking. Unfortunately, you will need to supplement with formula. It is very common that your milk will turn back into colostrum when you are pregnant. All of the ways to increase breast milk are not healthy during pregnancy because they can cause uterine contractions. The herbs are not safe for your pregnancy. Please talk with your pediatrician for guidelines on how to start supplementing your 5 month old. I am sending you love and light and healing thoughts.

    I am currently 5weeks pregnant and breastfeeding on demand my one and 7 month old. I am experiencing a lot of cramping and back aches and light pink discharge and light brown discharge. What can I do so I won’t loose my baby?

      Thanks for asking. I am sorry to hear this is happening. This is a very complex question. My initial response would be to stop breastfeeding because for some women it can cause uterine irritability that can lead to miscarriage. However, miscarriage is very common and you might have miscarried anyways. Once you stop breastfeeding, your breast milk will dry up very fast and you will have to start using formula. I would call your healthcare provider and try to get an examination right away so they can determine if a miscarriage is already happening. In the meantime, evaluate your breastfeeding relationship. If you are ready to stop, then stop. If not, I would wait to get examined and see what that says. Sending you love and light and healing thoughts.

      @@TheMaternityMentor thank you for your fast reply I truly appreciate it! 🙏🏼 I have 3 daughters already and I had no complications. I am really trying not to breastfeed my daughter because I do notice when I do I start cramping. She hates regular cow milk I don’t know what to alternate my milk with. I’m scared of any damage I can cause my daughter if I literally just stop breastfeeding her. She still wakes up 3xs a night to breastfeed.

    How do I wean my baby while pregnant

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks for the question! Start slow...if you are breastfeeding 6 times per day go to 5 times per day for 2 or 3 days. Depending on your baby's age you need to replace that feeding. Baby's under age 1 need either infant formula or breastmilk in a bottle. Baby's over the age of 1 replace with a meal, snack, or bottle of milk (whatever your pediatrician recommends). Every couple days remove 1 more feeding. You will probably be fully weaned in 2 or 3 weeks. This video is on drying up your milk supply.

      You may want to consider discontinuing to breastfeed. For some women, the hormones to maintain a milk supply will interfere with proper ovulation. Before you decide to do that, make an appointment with your provider. Have them check you and run some labs to make sure nothing else is going on. Then before deciding to stop breastfeeding, try an ovulation tracking kit. If that still doesn't help. I would discontinue the breastfeeding. Are there any birth complications for a normal delivery mom after having a second pregnancy too soon?

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the question. There are some risks when a mother get pregnant within 6 months of giving birth. These can include anemia, low birth weight, placental issues like abruption, preterm birth, and small babies. It is recommended to wait 18 months between babies. However, if you have become pregnant, it is important to take care of yourself. Eat right, do light exercise, take your prenatal vitamin, and get good prenatal care. These things can help to avoid the risks.

      Thanks for asking and congratulations! Every pregnancy is different. Most women are able to safely breastfed throughout their pregnancy. If you are a high risk pregnancy, then you may want to discontinue. You need to monitor your 9 month old's weight and output. Over time, your breastmilk may turn back to colostrum and decrease in volume. If this happens, your baby won't be getting enough to eat. However, if your healthcare provider says it's ok, the decision is really up to you. Good luck!

      Thanks for asking. Milk starts forming in a woman's breast by month 4 or 5 in the form of colostrum. However, if you continue to breastfeed your baby and then become pregnant again. The breastmilk will remain allowing you to feed the older child.
