    What other questions do you have about vaginal infections?

    • @Simplelivingslowliving
      @Simplelivingslowliving 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I've treated Yeast infection in my pregnancy 4 times already and it's still persisting. I'm now in my 3rd trimester and I'm still hesitant on taking the two doses of fluconazole my obs have repeatedly recommended. Baby's brain is maturing right now ate this stage and I'm not sure how fluconazole would affect that. I'm really scared and only want my baby to stay healthy. I've done clotrimazole 2x, miconazole and terconazole. None have been able to get rid of it. I also have pcos so I wonder if that contributes to making this yeast harder to treat. I have not read one single study that says it's safe to take fluconazole at any given time in pregnancy. Even thou my yeast infection is persistent it's only a moderate growth. My blood sugar is fine and all else is ok with pregnancy. Do you think it would be safe to take fluconazole?

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Simplelivingslowliving Thanks for asking. High-dose Fluconazole use during the first trimester has been linked with cardiac defects. As a result, a blanket warning has been issued against its use during pregnancy. I personally have seen it used in the 3rd trimester and no ill effects have been noted. I understand and respect your caution. I think a great deal depends on how far into your 3rd trimester but I would also want to know what the rationale is for your provider. Your provider may simply be trying to relieve symptoms for you. If that's the case, I probably wouldn't use the Fluconazole. However, if they believe it's causing an ill effect for you or baby, that information should be provided to you so you can make an informed decision. Generally, yeast is not a problem for mom and bay but every pregnancy is unique. Definitely talk to your provider. If you are close to the end or if it being prescribed simply for symptom relief, I might hold off. I always think you should listen to your provider who knows you best.

    • @Simplelivingslowliving
      @Simplelivingslowliving 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheMaternityMentor thanks for replying. I agree with you in that I should hold off because my infection is moderate. I have some discharge and some itching. It's not terrible. I just dont feel confident about fluconazole given at any given time in pregnancy. I'm 29 weeks now and haven't had any symptoms of cervical inflammation that a yeast infection might cause. My obs are concerned that the persistent yeast infection can cause premature contractions. I wouldn't want either to happen. My yeast is sensitive to fluconazole and that's why they've been pushing for me to take it to get rid of it. But I'm also concerned that even with fluconazole the infection could come back just because of the high estrogen levels in pregnancy. So I feel like what's the point of risking it by taking it? It's so frustrating not having a definite answer to make a decision 😔. But I understand medicine is not an exact science and some things are just answered through trials and experiments. I'm just at a lost here.

      @@Simplelivingslowliving Thanks for sharing some more information. Your obgyn is correct that untreated infections can lead to preterm labor. It doesn't happen often but it can happen. The problem is you can also start to have Braxton hicks contractions which means you might not be able to tell the difference. Any vaginal infection increases your risk of preterm labor and PCOS also increases your risk. I would ask if there are other factors your OBGYN has determined increase your risk of preterm labor. If yes, you should take the medication. Yes - estrogen does increase the risk of recurrent yeast infections. If you have other risk factors for preterm labor, you should consider the fluconazole. I have seen it used, as I said before, in the hospital when women are having pregnancy complications. If you do decide to take it, definitely take the 2 doses. One has been shown to be ineffective so take the 2 for your best chances to get rid of the infection. Make sure you are practicing all the other care practices in the video.

    Thanks a lot I was getting worried . The thing is I'm not so sure if it's thrush but I do feel itchy and my vulva is very sensitive to the scratching , It gets swollen and cracks open pretty fast. The thing is if I wash my vulva with water instead of scratching everytime it feels itchy the itchiness subsides . Washing the vulva often and not wearing underwear keeps the itchiness away and I fell alright

    Does white watery discharge without smell or itching normal when out after day of my ovulation? and does it not affect me to get pregnant.what medication should l use

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for asking. This sounds like a normal discharge called fertile discharge or ovulation discharge. The purpose of this discharge is to help aide sperm to the egg for fertilization and keep it healthy along the way. However, without an examination, I cannot say for sure. Any discharge should always be checked out by your healthcare provider. If it is an infection, it needs to be treated or it can cause infertility. Some infections only appear as odorless, painless discharge. Also, the only way to determine a medication is to see and test the discharge. Good luck! Thanks for asking! Miconazole topical is safe for use during pregnancy. However, Miconazole tablet should only be used when there are no other alternative treatments available. Studies have not shown any harm to fetuses but there is not enough evidence to definitively call it safe. However, yeast infections that remain untreated can cause miscarriage and preterm birth. So its better to use Miconazole tablets than do nothing.

    Hi, I am 13 weeks pregnant. I felt like I was getting a yeast infection last night. Out of desperation and discomfort I went to the store to get something over the counter. I used Tioconazole 1 300 mg 6.5%. I read online Monostat was safe to use during pregnancy and the target I went to didn’t have the Monostat brand so I got the off brand. I’m super worried that I made this decision without consulting my ob. I was just in so much discomfort last night.

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for asking! You should always talk to your healthcare provider first to be sure what you are using is ok for your pregnancy. However, I do not want you to be stressed out. Research has shown that all the over the counter yeast infection productions are safe for use during pregnancy. There can be a few exceptions for certain pregnancies but you would already know that. Also, off brand over the counter medications are made by the brand name. Most people don't realize it but off brand over the counter medications are made by the brand name. They usually are just use cheaper packaging and cheaper filling ingredients. Contact your healthcare provider to let them know but I think you will be just fine. I am sending you love and light and healing thoughts.

      Thanks for asking! Traditionally, all the over the counter medications used to treat yeast infections are safe. However, you need to go to your healthcare provider before using anything. They should examine you and swab the discharge and test it. They need to confirm its just yeast and not yeast with a bacterial infections so it can be treated properly. Also, your provider may want you to use a prescription medication versus over the counter medication. Feel better!

    I'm suffering from yeast infection since last month, I'm 18 weeks pregnant, I went to my midwife last month she gave me ceforoxime injection and tablet, when I finished the medicine I didn't experience it again but now I'm experiencing it severely, pls what should I do

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for asking. You should go back to the midwife for treatment again because yeast infections can lead to preterm birth. While you are there, ask if she can recommend a probiotic for you to start using. This can help prevent yeast infections. Also, make sure you are wearing cotton underwear only and if you can, sleep without any underwear at night. This helps air out your vagina which can help prevent yeast infections.

      Thanks for asking. All yeast infections during pregnancy should be swabbed to determine if you only have yeast or if you also have a bacterial infection with it. Once your healthcare provider checks you, they will decide how they want to treat you. Both those products are good but some providers prefer patients to use creams and others suppositories.
