I can say on my Launch scanner it seems to be MOST vehicles from around 2001-2002 will autoscan if I choose to use the Vinscan instead of going manual, but some vehicles need to be newer than 2005-2006ish. Anything before 2001 or so is always manual. Its really up to the manufacturer and how the vehicle software is setup whether the scantool can autoscan the vin or not...that said Nissan is always a pain in the ass, I can scan most vehicles and do a health report in less than a quarter of the time than it takes on any Nissan/Infiniti. I wanted to mention to you though the reason for this is that those two scanners are talking to different sides of the computer. There is the generic side that the basic Creader talks to and pulls up monitors and codes on and the more advanced scanners will talk to the other side imitating dealer software. I thought its worth mentioning because I have seen a couple cases where I scan a vehicle and NO codes come up on my scanner or my coworkers snap on solus, but if I put my scanner into EOBD mode or use the cheap Harbor Freight scanner we use for checking monitors sometimes generic codes will show up. Just thought it was worth sharing with you bro!
I just watched the first 2:26 of the video then stopped. I've used my Launch 123I so far to scan my 2006 Hyundai Tucson & last night i scanned my 2010 Jeep Patriot. It doesn't matter what vehicle I scan, the time it takes to get the VIN on either is about 30 seconds or more. It just takes this scan tool longer than most. Now on my Patriot, I did receive an error one time so I turned off the key & unplugged the scanner & plugged it back in & it worked fine. Back to last night, I wanted to see why the ''Check Engine Light'' & 3-warning lights (traction Control, ABS & Airbag) decided to pop up again for no reason. I was able to go into the settings and locate all the issues that were tripped. I reset the Check Engine light, and all 3 warning lights. I'm keeping my scan tool simply because for $170 being able to see ''Real Time Data'' helps because it tills me the RPM & the Voltage to any of the Sensors & where it goes as I accelerate. Having the ability to have the data helps when you have those details on the vehicle, or talking to a shop mechanic you can tell them if its receiving power & how much.......
One of the articles I read stated those type of scan issues were due to OBD2 related software. Regardless if the vehicle was domestic or not, plus OBD2 was still considered to be in it's infancy, even after 2000-2001. Sorta makes we wonder what type of electronic scan tools were available to mechanics back then. I don't believe we could buy them commercially like we have been able to over the past 10-15 years. I have watched a couple videos where guys who owned a MB from the late 2000's & also some VW & BMW can't use a OBD2 scan tool on them. Evidentially those auto manufacturers do not want customers to be able to repair their own vehicles...
I’ve used my CRP129x on over 200 vehicles past 2 years. Airbag resets, all sorts of things. I am in Australia . Nissan, RangeRover, Toyota, GM Holden, Suzuki, I have even reset oil light on Mitsubishi Fuso diesel trucks… does not work on Fords but I use Forscan for Fords.
I believe you have to do the wireless software upgrade via Wi-Fi as soon as you open it to take advantage of the fixed quirks. It has free software upgrades for life on WiFi 😉👍
To get the oil light reset you must get the CRP129X, they put a few more feature which are just software on the that one. It is almost the last step before going to to the x431 style. That will be my next one to get because of the bi-directional for programming immo keys. That thing will pay for its self in a month.
I have the Launch CRP129e and its pretty awesome, it is fast and aside from not have bi directional controls it does everything I need it to do. I’m not sure what’s wrong with yours but mine works great.

I'm not too familiar with this scanner but most scanners Auto ID from what I can recall works on 2007 and up. I always use my pocket reader for monitors. It's so much faster than pulling out a scanner a building the vehicle just for monitors.
I've got the newer black one. Only issue I ever have, is remembering to check the cigarette lighter. As most OBDII terminals, share that circuit for power. If it's blown or bad, I'll get a connectivity prompt on the screen.
I just got my launch 123x don't have any issues and it's fairly quick so I bet you're right it's probably something with the firmware software glitch in their set up
I purchased the same Launch 123X scan tool not too long ago, was impressed untill I tried to do an I/M Readiness check on my dad's 97 prelude. All I get is a "failure" message and it boots me out to the main screen. I paid 180$ of course I'm returning this crap to Amazon. And yes my scanner was also up to date and had a good wifi connection which should never be needed to perform an emmisions test. Glad to see I'm not the only one getting this error. Not worth the money if one of the main features doesn't work.
I have the Launch CRP123 Premium. I bought it from Cornwell for the features it has for the money and to have a descent scan tool for my side work. I've used it on my older Silverado and my wife's older Suburban, but I have to manually insert those vehicles to scan.
I have a CRP129E and it's been pretty good for the money mine has connected on everything so far from a Mini Cooper to Jeep to Toyota Ford Honda with several of those being from late 90s and early 2000s. If I was having the problems you were I'd definitely agree with you but given how mine has been doing I'm enjoying mine a good bit. Hopefully they can get yours straighted out for you.

Been looking for an "entry level" scan tool, from my Matco or Snap-On tool dealer.(under$1500) The Matco Maxlite($500?) seemed to have allot of features for a guy doing side jobs at home. This scan tool appears to be a stripped down version. Recommendations? Will have to make weekly payments and in October the city gives us a $600 tool bonus.
I have a Launch scan tool, the X431 Torque, the most expensive scan tool in their line up. I did have a few issues. One, was on a 2003 Cadillac, it would auto-identify about half the time on that car, but that car was a flood car, it was under water at one point in time. I bought it for a $107. I use it the 1st time and I had to put the vehicle in it which was a 2000 Buick century .. It seems to work better when the engine was running , it a lot more figures on it and I wish there was some place that would tell you what all those figures Voltage and pressure and percentages mean I don't know what they mean . It said have a leak and my EVAP. I've replaced the purge and cantier. So I think it's in the li'ne going to have to find it.
Damn now I think it’s a good thing amazon/launch screwed me over and canceled my order without me asking. I lost the promo and 3 days of waiting for it with there “I’m sorry just accept my apology and just reorder it at full price” as there fix for screwing me over and costing me
It doesn't identify my doge ram 2020 but i can select it manually. And that is because the obd connection on the truck have only 6 pins. Its not the scanner fault

It seems to work better when the engine was running , it a lot more figures on it and I wish there was some place that would tell you what all those figures Voltage and pressure and percentages mean I don't know what they mean . It said
have a leak and my EVAP. I've replaced the purge and cantier. So I think it's in the li'ne going to have to find it.
Damn now I think it’s a good thing amazon/launch screwed me over and canceled my order without me asking. I lost the promo and 3 days of waiting for it with there “I’m sorry just accept my apology and just reorder it at full price” as there fix for screwing me over and costing me
This guy would have hated the old days. The OG Snapon modis, inputting VIN and having keys for the OBD2 connector.
What's a good scanner that has live data, good reviews, etc.?
Any update on this? Worth buying?
Not worth buying IMO
It doesn't identify my doge ram 2020 but i can select it manually. And that is because the obd connection on the truck have only 6 pins. Its not the scanner fault
Hola. Soy de chile... compré el launch 909x y fué un error, tiene muchos problemas, dpf reg lo hace en muy pocos autos, ahora usted sabe como se resetea manualmente la camioneta ram 1000?...el scanner ni siquiera lo reconoce

I’ve never used that scanner before, but I’d try a new cable. It said on one screen that it wasn’t reading the connection, might be worth a try
Aok Thanks for your feedback.
I’m glad I don’t live in an inspection state
Amen
Hi i am in Austraila i was thinking buying Launch129x i Drive a Holden VE Commodore 2011, 3.0 Lt SIDI will it find holdens and ford here
Hey justin what is this scan tool the crp123x or crp129x? I was looking at picking up the autel 808 or the crp129x what is your opinion? Thanks j dawg!
So anything older than 2000 you have to manually enter
Joe jones Yes & even the it might have issues trying to connect to the PCM/ECU
Whats the scan tool that you say is lickity split in the beginning
Auto I'd connectivity issues are vehicle issues not the device... The vehicle doesn't support auto detection.
Mine wont read the vin you can clearly see on mine that it charges when plugged into the obd port but it won't read the vin to go any further idk why it worked good the 2 times I used it but now it wont work my snap on legend works wonders but I left it at work lol
Great video. My CRP123 Premium has been good for me. It's old now of course.
