I own six of the watches on the list, and I’m a semi-retiree in my ‘60s with Rolex, Omega, Breitling, etc., in my modest sized collection. I enjoy my Duro, Seiko 5, CasiOak, Orient, as much as my more expensive watches. These are good watches for anyone, not just students and young professionals.
Absolutely agree! Probably the best part of these watches 🙌🏻
@@JenniElle what's your opinion on buying a fake replica of an Omega Seamaster if I don't afford it and I'm honest about the fact that I bought a fake when they ask me? I would really love to hear your opinion and maybe a video on this? 🤔
@@aaronabelachelseafccan’t see Jennie doing a video on this topic, as it goes against the grain with fake watches really impacting on us watch collectors from all groups. Orient, to seiko and rolex/omega. Because fakes are getting good, but it wouldn’t sit well with me supporting this trade as I heard of many unfortunate individuals getting scorched as a result of purchasing what they thought was genuine. But in all honesty, wear what you’re happy with.
Doesn’t it bother you that the Duro has no lume?
@@user-nu6kv6dt8w, all 3 of my Casio Duros have lume… just not very long lasting lume.
You can’t really expect great lume and a sapphire crystal for $50.
I tried to get into watches over 10 years ago when I was a teen. I just couldn’t get into it because my wrist was too small. Now that I’m almost 30, I bought my self an Apple Watch to get healthier and that re-opened the watch experience for me. Because of the Apple Watch now I have the orient bambino, the duro, the PRX, G shock and the citizen Tsuyosa
Purchased a $20 Casio from Amazon. I’ve been wearing it everyday for errand runs and casual outings. Now that’s value!
I’ve seen the Casio Duro on classmates at school and older gentlemen at work, it’s truly a great watch!
I've seen the Casio Duro on some guy called Bill Gates. I think he's fairly well off.
Agreed, I wish they offered it in a smaller size.
@@EricPach Have you seen the smaller size they made for it? It's truly disappointing...
@@WatchesCanBeFun if it has a thinner bezel ring, I don't like it. I don't even like the Tudors with the thinner spinning bezel
First time I watch Jenni and I saw some watch I can buy LOL
My favorite watch brands are Orient, Citizen, and Casio. I also own Seiko, Glycine, Tissot, Bulova, Islander, and some of the infamous Asian homage brands. But unless I'm wearing a purpose-built athletics watch, you'll almost always find one of my three favorite brands on my wrist. For my 65th birthday (in 14 months), I'm planning to buy myself the most expensive watch I have ever owned, most likely a 41mm blue dial Longines Conquest Quartz. Yes, Quartz. As much I like automatics, I find a quartz watch is a better "everyday" watch for me. I often go two or three days without wearing a "nice" watch, and being able to pick up my favorite and not have to set it is key. And the price is easier to justify. Assuming nothing I like better in the price range is released, when I hit seventy I'll buy a Tudor Ranger, and when I reach eighty an Omega Seamaster Railmaster. When I reach ninety...well, who knows what will be available in 26 years. I'll probably still wear the Conquest most days.
You don’t know how much I’m disappointed when I see Apple Watch after watching all these beautiful watches..
Agree
agree, are all olid but applewatch for watch enthuiast mean they end the journey and become tech enthusiast
My two recomendations:
Invicta Pro Diver 1953:
Yes, an Invicta.. BUT! NH35 automatic movement, 200m of water resistance and a screw down crown, for... $100. Killer deal.
Glycine Airpilot:
My daily watch. Many variations like a GMT, Chronograph, steel bracelet, strap, etc. Swiss Rhonda movement, for under $500
Glycine is such an amazing brand. So often overlooked.
My daily is a Combat Sub 20, and I love it.
My first watch and a great memory of my mother is my Timex Expedition. 50 m WR, night light and lots of color options.
What an interesting video. I am almost at retirement age, and I still wear the same watch everyday for the past 48 years (my 8th grade graduation gift): a December 1975 Seiko Pogue. It is still all original and running +/- 2-4 seconds a day after its last service 8 months ago (video at the TH-cam channel: Blair Watch Project). I have other watches, but this Seiko always finds its way back onto my wrist.
I can vouch for the Seiko 5 SRPD series. That was my gateway into this crazy world when I still qualified as a young professional. Great piece for the money.
Unless you are very keen and set on having the Seiko logo on your dial, the Islander ISL-02 (and its colour variants) is a better alternative to the Seiko 5 line up. You get a better bracelet, screw-down crown, 200m water resist, sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel insert, and the same 4R/NH36 movement. Plus it is actually cheaper than Seiko's $350 USD pricetag at $299, and that will go down with sales and coupons. It's been my go-to watch for casual wear and field work for some time now. Was hoping to see it mentioned here!
I agree. The only issue with the Islanders are that people don't understand HOW and WHY they came to be. They get written off as a homage.
Aren’t they a homage brand? Not that there is anything wrong with that.
Isn’t this the same argument some folks make about homage brands like San Martin, Pagani, and Seestern? That for the money they offer better specs than big brands like Seiko, Or Citizen? And it’s actually fine to start off with these knockoffs. Especially if your intention is to move on in a year or two.
I still prefer Seiko to Islander, San Martin or Pagani. And if you really don’t like the hardlex crystal or so so bracelet, there is an easy upgrade path.
Islander over seiko almost every time sub $700. Sub $700 seiko doesn't offer good watches anymore.
My daily beater is an islander ameriquartz with my automatics being my hobby pieces.
Sadly I will never be able to own an Islander it seems. I just can't get past the logo.
My Red Orient Kamasu is getting most of my wrist time! Great video.
Thank you Jenni! I am 100% with you. Out of all watches in this video my favorite is the Nomos Tangente. This is a watch which punches far above its price range. The Classic Bauhaus design makes it a perfect dress watch for any young professional. Its built quality is superb as well.
I have a small collection but the Duro is in my wrist 90% of the time. Its also extremely comfortable
the video everyone needed nice price range good brands I love it
A shame they aren't making the Alpinist thinner. Very good list. That Oris Big Crown Pointer date is simply stunning. Great video, Jenni!
I have a red Orient Kamasu, love it!
The red is my favorite, too!!
Great to see the Stowa Verus getting some love! Cool slightly modern vintage watch.
Got a PRX quartz for my bachelor's graduation absolutely love it
Oris Big Crown is my choice for best in Show
I liked the Longines models mentioned 😃. I personally wear a Withings Scan Watch 2 which has the mechanical looks and the smart functions, and also gets me compliments.
All solid choices. Timex and Casio for variety and price
Ooooh! I think a few others belong in there too :D
A modded Vostok Amphibia, Orient Mako, the 35mm PRX quartz (yes, the quartz in honour of the original quartz PRX), an F91W on a nato strap, a classic Swatch (like a Once Again), and finally a quirky microbrand watch like for instance a Traska Commuter.
And thank you for choosing the Apple Watch, the reality is that times move on and smart watches are here to stay. They need a mention.
Interesting video! Thank you
Thanks Jenni, most enjoyable. All great choices.
Casios are my favourite pick. I wear a gshock for day to day. I have nicer watches, but can’t beat it for a beater.
Hi Jenni, what's your take on the Certina DS action dive watch? Would love to know, thanks.
I'm glad Orient was included on here but I wish the Bambino was mentioned as well.
Yep, the Bambino is an excellent choice for a reasonably priced dress watch. Unfortunately, many guys aren't wearing dress watches that much anymore. Hope that changes in the future.
I love my Generation 2, Version 2 Bambino.
Casio Lineage ani-digi (with all indicies) 40mm:
Backlight, day/date calendar, world-time, stopwatch, 5 alarms, countdown timer, 6-band radio accuracy, titanium, flat sapphire crystal, micro-adjust... $200. One. And. Done!
But I also have the Timex Q Reissue GMT (Pepsi). These two watches pretty much have me covered in 99% situations.
I have a Blue Baltic Aquascaphe. I love it.
The blue dial is 🔥
I have that exact clear G-Shock you are wearing I love that watch
I agree with all your picks. Good choices
Jenni, interesting choices, and so well done reviewing 21 watches in 15 minutes! I am so frustrated with waiting for a Rolex GMT that I am researching Seiko & Citizen GMT's. I wanted to ask if you can do a video on a head-to-head competition of the Seiko Sports 5 GMT for $475 versus the Citizen Series 8 GMT for $1,675. I cannot figure out if the Citizen GMT is three times better then the Seiko, and you have a unique perspective in your reviews. Both watches are automatic. To make the comparison more interesting, maybe add the Rolex GMT in steel as the grail GMT to own to see if Seiko & Citizen GMT's can compete. Sind sie bereit, diese art von video zu machen, um mir bei der kaufentscheidung zu helfen?
Great idea for a video!
Where is Sinn 556 ?
Citizen Tsuyosa is my favorite in this video. Its yellow variant is so similar to rolex perpetual while costing less than $300. It’s a wise choice if you want beauty, quality, and good price in mind.
if u want a smaller version but quart movement get casio MTP-B145D-9AVEF
Love seeing the powermatic every time
Well, 1st time viewer, and I applaud your fluency of the English language, you really speak fast…. Holy frijoles! That thing runs faster than me! Arriba! Arriba! {Speedy Gonzolas}. Thanks for video, some nice watches, not a fan of Apple Watches, but I guess some think it’s the cat’s meow…eh? {bee’s knees???}. Different strokes for different folks 🤷♂️
Great subject. Just shows how many cool watches exist.
I remember watching one of your videos about the 'Rolex killer watch'. I decided to purchase one and I love it. Thank you! I think the next time I get a more expensive one it will be the Tissot PRX Powermatic 35mm Gold.
Fantastic selection! The Orient Kamasu was definitely the stand-out for me. The red version.. Certainly a statement piece!
Yep, I wear mine all the time and get tons of compliments (and questions) about it. Best bang for the buck by far.
Lorier is amazing. Whenever I wear one of mine it always gets the attention of other watch guys who just have to ask what it is.
Love this list
I think any of the Citizen Eco-drives are a great beginners choice. Lots of styles covered, but a good solid eco-drive is a good watch to start with.
One understated thing about the Orient Kamasu (And the Ray and the Mako) are that they cases are still reasonably sized compared to other dive watches, not too tall, not too wide, decent lug-to-lug. And they are highly mod-able, a lot of people swap out the crystals on the Ray and Mako, which brings you 90% the way there to the Kamasu. I personalty prefer the newer Kamasu II with the round indices and sun-burst dial... it's a bit understated but nice proportions.
This is one of the things that I don't like about the current Seamaster Pro... it's just a big too big in every dimension. Not enough to stop a lot of people, but I feel like the SMP doesn't give a lot of people "perfect joy" because it's at the size where you make a lot of people have a small doubt as to whether or not it's too big for them. You see "Is this watch too big for me" frequently asked on Reddit.
Jenni talking about apple watches while my samsung galaxy looks like a submariner 😂
Thanks for the chance at a Speedy Jenni!
I had seiko 5, the oyster prepetual "inspired" for 6 months now for £240. I wear it almost every day. The bracelet got a little flimsy. Im not sure if thats normal
The bracelet on the new Seiko 5 is just ok. I would suggest either going with a strap or upgrading to either an Uncle Seiko or Strapcode bracelet. Both are big upgrades over the stock bracelet.
Its crazy how all the watches I want are featured here. The Hamilton , Prx ( For some reason I prefer the Quartz ) , Nomos and my grail watch , the prettiest watch of them all ,The Speedy !
I know where to find my ton notch brands for prices half of that what they go in Europe, but I just keep it to myself to keep away the crowd and prevent from prices climbing. After seeing both Junghans and Nomos in person. I was impressed with Junghans and very unimpressed with nomos.
Great selection, and good way to view simple affordable watches that are rock-solid choices.
I had and still have some pieces of this selection, while I also have more costly timepieces.
G-Shock being unavoidable in any collection, whatever its price range.
perfect video
Great list, although some of these are far from "bargains," haha. A couple more to add: Orient Bambino in 38mm (the classic, in a better size), Nodus Sector GMT (great GMT for around $500 and a total strap monster), Casio Royale (and you can buy full mod kits for it if you want), and the Q Timex GMT (it has a better bracelet than the Q Timex reissues and has a swiss quartz gmt movement).
I have a small collection of Casio Duros. 6 or 7, I think, between MDV-106 and MDV-107. I really like it.
A couple CasiOaks.
My daily watch is, however, my Glycine Combat Sub 20, which is just amazing and very affordable.
I don't understand why the Bambino didn't make the list, but I assume that even tho most people have one, they are not their dailies. But I still love my Gen2V2.
As far as Seiko 5, I have 3 or 4. They look great on a canvas strap.
Snagged the SRPD55 when it was on sale for $200 USD. Accurate and goes with everything, so it quickly became my daily beater.
Came for the piano and Henle urtext scores in the video preview, stayed for the watch recommendations.
My local watch shop told me Seiko 5 (mechanical) is basically a throw away watch. Wear it for 5-7 years and toss it. Is that about right?
You are absolutely a sweetheart. And, an exceptional reviewer of watches.
Hello Jenni,
What watch are you wearing in this video?
You could do this list again but focussed only on micro brands, i would nominate Brew Retrograph Espresso for that
Nomos always seems like the perfect watch to me. I’m scared of I’ll get one I’ll sell all the other ones. 😎
I own the Casioak and the Murph (also an apple watch). The next watch I get though will be either a PRX or an Omega speed master, a big jump in price but I feel I need a sports watch hand I'll either go big or go just add something.
Fantastic list, I love them all except 🍎
You can get a 90's Omega seamaster for just under a thousand euros. I bought mine for 800. Put a nice fancy mesh strap on it you have a very cool watch with brand regonition. Done.
Nice choices
Surprised the Orient Bambino didn’t make the list.
I was thinking about what my 22 year old son wears. He has a Citizen Ecodrive, Orient Bambino, Seiko 5, and finally, Seestern Nomos Tangente homage.
Guess which one gets the most compliments?
@martintanz9098 None 😴💤
Your son has very good taste 👍
Mathey-tissot H901ATR.. sub 1000 with a landeron movement. Great specs for the price
Some nice choices there and all very reasonably priced too!!
Great video👍
Thank you :-)!
Most popular watch worn by people under 30 at my company ....by far, I mean 10 to 1 (any other watch)......Apple Watch.
Truth
Nice Piano !
I like your numbering-- Watch #1 - Watch #18 -- Uhr #19 -- Watch #20-21 ;-)
Seiko dulce, same accuracy as a grand seiko spring drive +-10 seconds per year at 1/10th the price
I have a Mondaine Simply Elegant, quartz, slim 6.3mm, classic swiss railway 41mm white dial, appropriate Milanese strap - catches the admiring eye of even non-watch lovers.
My beater is obsolete Timex Expedition, fab quick set ALARM, INDIGLO, quartz, date, 50m,.
The Duro is like the quartz diver version of the bargain basement Casio FW91 digital.
Glad to see that the Baby Alpinist made the list. Definitely one of my favorites to wear. However, in professional use I typically wear the Omega Seamaster Pro, not because I'm a diver but because the METAS movement allows me to wear it in the high magnetic field I work in when I'm servicing MRI machines and its durability means I have little concern about it contacting super cold helium gas when handling cryogens and other such odd hazards of the job.
The other watch I wear while working is a Casio Royal that I've modified with a CuSn8 bronze case and sapphire crystal. Being wholly digital it stands up to the magnetic fields just fine, and while the mod made it heavier it definitely looks more interesting and sparks some questions. It's also handy when I travel to different states and time zones to quickly adjust the time I'm in.
I was originally going to buy one of the cheap Tiso PRX, but unfortunately, I found out that it contains plastic materials within the watch. That was a turn off.
Hey Jenn, please please please review a svolbard or slow watch, these are 24 hour single hand watch, akerfalk also are 24 hour single hand watch
You are fearless to include the Apple Watch SE on a watch channel. Oddly enough, I respect that.
Always a risky movie with Apple :-D
Only own one of these watches as I'm always able to find something that made me not to buy. The Murph with poor AR crystal, PRX having poor movement, Duro with too long lug to lug measurement (for me), also Nomos and Mido, etc. The one that I'm still considering is The Murph, hoping that I maybe can accept the reflective crystal.
Hello Jenni, and which watch do you wear in this video? It looks so huge on your tiny wrist! Many greetings, mike
Hey Jenn please please review also a German watch BOTTA 24 hour single hand watch
I got five of that list along with many more and I think an Apple watch cannot be categorized as a real watch since it is a wearable tech product. But still, people buy it and use it as a watch to tell time along with all other aspects as long as the battery has sufficient charge left in it :).
Que buen gusto!
For 2-3k you can now find a BB58 black/blue secondary/grey market . Very well made and wears like a dream.
Bare minimum acceptable watch. Great deal 👌
If you're just starting your career, start with a Thorn or San Martin homage of the BB58 (maybe even in titanium). Both are very well built and will give you the the look and feel of the BB58 at a time in your life when you shouldn't be shelling out thousands for a watch. Heck, I'm an older guy and have a Thorn Titanium version that one of my good friend's (who has a Tudor BB58) really loves (and hates 🙂).
The bracelet kinda sucks, its the only thing that lets down an otherwise perfect watch
I know I’m in the minority but I love the bracelet super comfy and even like the fake rivets. I think it makes it different from the typical oyster bracelet. I also owned a an Explorer 36 and I feel the oyster in the Tudor was just as good as the Rolex.
@@miguellucas8813 I never suggested either watch was perfect, but they're both a great value option for someone young who's coin should be going into making them more coin at this stage of their life.
My “nice” watch is a Breitling but I get as much joy from my Sheffield allsports, my Seiko 5 and my G shocks :)
I'd add a classic Mondaine to the list
For a $200 (from jomashop) watch, Orient offers better movement (hand wind and hacking), sapphire crystal, 200m WR.. can't justify Seiko 5 sports.. instead DressKx will be preferred as it has different approach than a diver
Can you do a review on Accurist origin limited edition?
I ordered the Casio diver but sent it back. The finish and materials are really good, especially for the prize, also the bezel action! But it was too big and heavy for me and I didn‘t become a fan of the design.
Why does everyone overlook Squale, if you you see somewhere in the world somebody wearing a Squale watch, you know he knows, almost same with steinhart. Ok, they make a lot of Hommage watches,
But they also have individual designs, Swiss movement etc. Very good quality for the price you pay, and shows you know about micro brands
Fun list. :-)
I don’t know too many students spending $800+ on a watch.
Tried the link, took me to speedy rewards for 7/11 and speedway gas😂
For me I think the brand that would make me most recognise a person as an enthusiast if I saw them wearing it in a coffee shop or where ever would be Sinn.
Imagine spending money on watches to "show you're an enthusiast" instead of because you like the watches 🤡
I'd disagree with the smart watch. Just get a Garmin, have a month of battery life, and actually have a good sports watch ecosystem (Connect and Strava).
But, my Duro has been through the paces and it's still going strong. A good nato strap and that thing hums!
which is better? a quartz prx or a powermatic one?
It all depends on your taste? Some people prefer automatic on their watches but the maintenance can be pricy. Meanwhile the quartz version is cheaper, you won’t be able to see the complications on the back but it’s reliable and the cost of maintenance is cheaper. I currently have a PRX quartz and it gets the same wrist time as my Tudor BB36 automatic.
Quartz
Powermatic
I would say quartz. As far as I can tell, the Powermatic 80 is not easily serviceable. That is the whole point of buying mechanical movements.
I own both but if your interested in accuracy. Then quartz is the best I own a few vintage Heuer quartz pieces Heuer Coral 980 026, Heuer 981.006, Tag Heuer Night diver 989 113 and the Heuer 272.006 with the ESA 536.121, ETA 955.112 and the 185 super quartz movement's and love them. All have been serviced and function flawlessly
Hmm apple watch this must be a April joke...YOU GOT ME HAHA
Well, I think San Martin and Cronos are the best bargain watches that show you're an enthusiast and a connaisseur. In most cases you can grab them for less than 200 dollars
slight mistake in the Longines Hydroconquest-segment: You mention the "new" Hydroconquest with the ceramic bezel and show it in the pictures, but then mention the price for the old variant for ~$1300. The new version, that is shown in the video, costs around $1900. Was a bit irritating as the mentioned price seems like a voiceover during editing.
Nice.
