xTool D1 / 10w Laser - Acrylic sheet using the Glass on the Fly method.

  • Complete video, start to finish, of engraving a piece of acrylic using the Glass on the Fly method. It is fast and easy. Apply a light coat of diluted dish soap to one side of the acrylic and lay it face down on a piece of black posterboard. I'm using Pen Gear Heavyweight Poster Board I got at WalMart for $1.08. Comes in a 22"x28" sheet so very cost friendly and works great.
    Clean up was easy! Dropped it into a container of water and let it soak a few minutes. Everything wiped right off.
    I am using LightBurn software with an xTool D1 / 10w Laser

    I can't tell you how many videos I watched and yours is the best one and explained it all. People keep saying Diode lasers can't engrave clear acrylic and ig you proved em wrong.

      Thank you! It does work. All I can imagine is It's so simple it couldn't possibly work lol.. I do them all the time just like this with great results. The only problem I have run into was buying cheap plastic. It wanted to pop little pieces out. I also do glass the same way. Works great and you get better details than you can using any type of masking.

      @Viper Designed I'm in some groups, and people are still at this moment telling me to stop wasting my time. Your diode will never work with clear acrylic. I'm just getting into laser cutting and engraving. The lack of information on TH-cam is actually scary compared to other things. Keep up the good work 👏.

    Great work from you. You are worth gold. I'm amazed at how easy it could be done. My motto up to now has been: why make it simple when it can be complicated. I've been thinking for a long time how to properly laser an acrylic glass cylinder and today I saw it from you. Hallelujah 🤩🤩 No more painting, spraying, or that complicated stuff. With the right laser power I can still find out for myself, since I work with the Sculpfun S 90 with 90 watts. Greetings from Switzerland.

      Greetings and welcome from central USA! Thanks and glad you can make use of it! I was the same way, too much hassle. There had to be a better way and I kept stepping right over the obvious looking for a complicated answer.. This thing sure has been a humbling experience for me. Find myself doing that a lot because it's a laser and it can't be that easy.. You might look at the other masking option I have. Latex Dip. Dip the cylinder in latex paint and use that for a masking. That would work good also and be on the outside. This would engrave the inside of the glass.

If you do could you provide me with what adjustments / prep should be made with the image before running in on the laser. Thanks for the help and these awesome informative videos !!

    • @viperdesigned
      @viperdesigned  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mark, it all depends on your image. To start, names, logos or a simple design would be easiest to work with. One or 2 solid colors. The blacker the graphic the better. For photos, inverting(making it a negative) will have much better results. I don't use image-R but hear it has all kinds of presets in it. Anything settings they have for glass should work just as well.

      My favorite has been the PenGear posterboard I get at WalMart. It does well on glass or acrylic. A light coat of soap on the bottom of the piece and you are ready to go. Soap will sandwich in between the piece and your backer material. It helps to keep the acrylic cooler and also helps with clean up.

      @@ceelwarn You have some practice pieces laying around I'm sure. Old CD cases will work to play around and get used to it. Just do some small images and a little less heat. The soap goes on the back because that is where the engraving happens. The laser won't etch the front of acrylic or glass because it is clear and goes right threw it. If you are going to light it, I would mirror(flip side to side) your image. It will print backwards but when you turn it around, it will be right and read right.. I forget to do that,,,, a lot!! lol
