  • A Nissan Ariya is an electric car that offers lots of luxury in the cabin and a high quality feeling. In this video I drive it on the highway, to appear in a podcast, do a DC charging test, test its acceleration and cabin noise level etc.

    Very good summary of the ARIYA. I would agree 100% having bought this exact model (and colour) three months ago. Having driven 3 x Tesla models, The EV6, and VWs, it only took 15 minutes to make up my mind that the ARIYA was the vehicle for me. I still smile when I drive it, despite having owned dozens of cars over the last 50 yrs. A stunning car. Thanks

    I think the Ariya is the most tech forward in this price range ($45K - $60K US). I was considering the VW ID.4, but felt the Ariya was more futuristic in appearance & features. Just picked up the Premiere FWD after a year deposit.

    Great job Jimi. This is the first car review where someone actually measured the noise in the car in DB and provided some benchmarks against other cars in the segment. This is very useful. Usually most reviewers just say "the car is very quiet..." or "there is some road and wind noise...". This is absolutely meaningless and can be very subjective. I've always wondered, why not actually measure it and put some numbers against it for context. You did that perfectly. Well done

    In English, the screen/cover above the boot/trunk, is called a boot cover or a parcel shelf. Great review, thank you.
    Induction motors and the like, generally produce more noise & vibration, which calls for a greater need to damp the motors to reduce the felt vibration. Where they win over constant magnet motors, is that they don’t need nor use rare earth elements. So while they are less efficient, they are tend to be less heavy and cost less to make, though the extra vibration damping cancels this out the lesser motor weight. They are more ‘eco friendly’, as most if not all rare earth metals, (used in the production of constant magnets) are found in strata and ores, that also contain uranium and require a lot of noxious chemical treatments to purify the rare earth elements.

    Hi Jimi
    I think the reason for the e-pedal not going to a complete stop is so you use your brakes a little because there have been problems with people not using brakes for a long time then when needing them they are seized up.

    • @jimirosa
      @jimirosa  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is very plausible. It's just a shame, as it destroys quite a bit of the comfort of one pedal drive, as you have in Polestar and Tesla…

    I drove the Nissan, and it has a few issues that made me go with the Skoda Enyaq instead. The armrest is too wide, can't be raised and has 0 storage except for the phone. The Nissan also lacks on a decent spot to place your left foot while driving. While not major issues it was really bugging me and the Skoda didn't bother me at all, a very pleasant drive. It was a close call in the end, but the test drive made me switch from Nissan to the Skoda.

    Great review! and ypure right! Its definitely a car thats going under the radar. We have an Ariya arriving hopefully in April to replace my wifes XC60. A tough act to follow.
    The Ariya seems pretty middling across the board with no real genuine standout features but ought to be a decent first EV as family runner.

    Jimi, Hello from the US (west coast California). Great review! I have a reservation for a Ariya Evolve and was told recently my car will be here in April. I agree with you this car has been under the radar but now that its out, more reviews are showing up. Yours is very informative and to the point. This car was not built for speed but has so many other features. We have a Tesla model 3 SR+ that is rated 254 miles and with 86% charge leave us a SOC at around 217 miles. Its more like 180 actual miles which is why I went with the longer range Ariya model. With the Tesla I have to charge every other day or everyday. Was on the fence whether I will take delivery of the Ariya as it has lost is tax break. Tesla dropped the model Y pricing and after tax break will be $5K lower than the Ariya. Looking for a better quality built car so now leaning toward the Ariya after viewing your review.

    • @jimirosa
      @jimirosa  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much. With Tesla's new prices, a Model Y Long Range is a really good deal. In addition, Nissan has lowered the prices of the Ariya in China. that's what Tesla started with before they also reduced their prices globally. The Ariya is honestly a nice car, but I think I would have gone with a Model Y with the new prices. Of course, I only know the prices in Denmark. Thanks for watching 😊

    • @dchow007
      @dchow007 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jimirosa should have mentioned we own a Tesla model 3 SR+. No problems with. The model Y is a taller and faster version of the 3. For the cost we decided not to get one. Its either going to be the Ariya or wait for the next gen cars. We had a order for an ID4 version but the US version looks to be a striped down version of the german made one. No heat pump and cheaper parts.

    Living in Northern Norway, awd ev is essential. After trying many evs, my favorites were polestar 2, volvo c40. But after a 340km road trip with the Ariya, the chose were clear. The Ariya is so comfortable, i choose the awd evolution Ariya.

    • @jimirosa
      @jimirosa  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The car is extremely comfortable. And of course. If you live in a climate with certainty of frost, snow and slippery roads, AWD should of course be considered. But in Denmark it is simply a matter of a higher price and consumption.

    I think you are right with 30 km below zero. 100-0% according to GOM is around 78-79 kWh (including heat loss) and below zero you get ca 5 kWh. Results in ca 87 net capacity (83-84 kWh when accounting for normal heat loss).

    The larger battery makes no sense in the UK as our single phase home charging will rarely get much more than the standard size battery. In The Netherlands you have 3 Phase at home. The standard size battery is actually very good value and more than enough for most people.

    • @jimirosa
      @jimirosa  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I totally agree. In Denmark, we have 3-phase AC charging and therefore most people choose the large battery, as the probability of getting the extra price back when you sell the car is quite high.
      I myself am a supporter of cars with a battery that covers everyday needs, rather than the few long trips a year.
