I pace myself to learn 1 thing at a time to master it. .. I won't be doing any clubs...just for family and friends...as a hobby for now.

I've had mine since November and, I must say,, I am absolutely loving it. I think the RGB lights are fine for brightness - on a PC anyway. It's a shame Hercules didn't go for a USB 3.0 interface though as that would allow for a higher bitrate and more power to the unit - but, again, the brightness of the pads is fine on a PC so maybe use a powered USB hub if you're using a notebook/laptop. DJuced is pretty good in my opinion so I've just been using that, even though I tried Rekordbox 6 (crowded and small UI), Serato Pro (ugly UI), Serato Lite (pretty useless with only four hot cues) and Traktor (meh). It is a delight to use and I'm enjoying finding all the little bits and bobs. It's a lot to get used to after so many years using old software (MixMeister Pro 6 - don't laugh to hard please, it's all I had) but I reckon I'm doing pretty well so far. Well worth the money. I'm on all the streaming platforms, just trying to get some mixes out there but subs would be greatly appreciated ;-)

Both of which scored less than this controller on Crossfader's controller of year award video. I agree about the effects but hey, I have a LOT to learn so I'll work it out with time.

It's hard to put something new between DDJ-800 and Roland DJ-505, Traktor Kontrol S3, Numark Mixtrack Platinum FX, this Hercules ... But like Russians say: "A holy place is never empty."
I have been Djing for about a year and love this deck. Recently, however, I have started more complicated transitions that involve heavy use of layered effects. The only way to use 2 effects at once is to assign both knobs to one deck which has to be done manually using a mouse (on serato pro at least). This is not ideal when I then need to apply an effect to the other deck. I am going to try djuced (which i have been reluctant to do because of how much I spent on serato pro) to see if the fx are configured better like on a mode of the pads. A dedicated fx section would have made this deck unbeatable.
DJuced is a very good software and apt for the 500 Controller. There is a pad for FX in Mode. I used Virtual DJ Pro and DJuced and felt that DJuced was better.
Came to watch this review because I was on Best Buy's website to see if they could repair my DJ controller. Stumbled upon this and was like "wait, only $300???" Equivalent gear from Pioneer would be pushing into 500 at least for the same features. This seems like a flagship DJ controller, minus only having 2 decks, no dedicated fx, and a short pitch fader. Incredible for the price.
Awesome video man! I’ve really been trying to decide whether to get the DJ DDJ-SB3 or the Hercules inpulse 500 after watching lots of review videos. I’m a beginner DJ and been tossing up massively. I have serato DJ pro but just can’t decide which would be best. I know it’s all personal preference but any advice/direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

honestly i mix on the flx6 by pioneer but the hercules DJ control imulse being able to use serato and how its portable enough to fit in my bag is going to be my go to mobile setup for djing with freinds and when i am out of the house it might say BUDGET but like tbh its made its way into my hands for gigging, and at that price its something you cant really beat and it it is certainly an upgrade from the hercules dj control jogvision which was my gig setup before. i love how thurough of a two channel this is and it is 110% going to work great with my preferred style of mixing especially since i already own serato dj pro...
@@djcarlo i came back to this video a few months later, this controller is INSANE for the price. i remember a day and age where anything with a metal faceplate was $1k or more just for two channel. this thing never ceases to blow my mind

My only problem is when making any major purchases or investment on a item, I have a tendency to spend 6 months to a yr researching it first, course by the time I finally do make the purchase a newer model on the shelves. It looks expensive and it is cheap. It have functions from pro DJ Controller but it is cheap. It looks so good and works with 2 DJ softwares. I think this is the best DJ Controller in the world.
The entry level scene is getting really competitive. I guess my only issue is that you probably do need to purchase serato dj pro which makes this almost as expensive as the kontrol s3, which is more pro dj ready even though traktor may be dying. That being said I would love to get a serato controller as im a rekordbox dj and would like to have the option to learn both this is a great option

I wanted to buy hercules product only bud due to lack of money im buying a used pioneer DDJ RB from a friend. Used one .. and this hercules controllers is my favourite one and i will buy it oneday
@@djcarlo i guess 🙂 i was using an hercules Air S Series for 2 yrs because I'm a deejay and everyone makes fun of me for having a small dj controller and other DJ's are using big controllers and i couldn't afford one. And few days back 200 people came to my dj club and after seeing my small dj controller they just left 😞 and my manager got angry at me and they said if i didn't buy a big one u will be fired. And i don't have enough money . So i posted my phone online for sale ( still noone came). And in selling my old dj machine the small one ( still noone came). And i asked a friend and it cost like Indian rupees 42000 and it's not even affordable for me it's like 500$. And i asked a friend and he have pioneer DDJ RB. And he told me to pay half now. Then pay others half before June 15. It is till a small controller . But I'm thinking i should use my 2 controller in same desk and use it so it looks like 4 deck. Everyone are not rich as u bro. There are lot of stuggling DJ's like me. Taking families priorities in hands. Especially indian families are joint familys there will be grandma and mom and sis all living together and the whole priorities forcefully in my hand and i work 3 jobs to help my family
This definitely seems like the best bang for the buck for beginner & intermediate deejays. I might pull the trigger on this over the Numark FX Platinum. What's your opinion Carlo?
I prefer this controller to the DDJ-800 now even if the DDJ-800 has more features (including a dedicated FX section). I got the Impulse 500 used in “like new” condition for $240 including sales tax and it was basically an open box item. So I was definitely lucky in that buy haha. I use Algoriddim’s Djay Pro for my software instead of Rekordbox since AlphaTheta is charging an arm and a leg for subscription. I also use an iPad Pro instead of a laptop for my DJing as I prefer it to a Macbook. More portable and I use SoundCloud GO+ and Apple Music which are integrated into that DJ software app. I have a question though, can either of the pair of outputs be a booth output? E.g. the RCA outputs are for the master channel and the 1/4 or 6.5mm jack outputs are for booth monitoring? And vise versa?
Unfortunately, this doesn't have a booth output per say. But you can use both at the same time to connect them to the main room speakers, and a booth monitor. Only caveat is that you won't be able to adjust the volume of your booth speaker from your controller
@@djcarlo Ok thank you for letting me know. The good thing is that my booth monitors have a volume knob on them so that should mitigate their loudness.
Would you say it is better than DDJ400, seems like it has everything DDJ400 has and more. I am hesitating between those two. I especially like more outputs and inputs in Hercules, mic knobs, and metal building. Can you name some advantages of DDJ 400 that Hercules doesn't have? or if that is an option for you you can make a comparison video, thanks )
@@SiriusBlack-wh6uh I got Hercules, but tried out rekordbox recently and liked it a bit more than serato, so ordered DDJ will try it out and will keep the one I prefer more. However, in DDJ I do not like the knobs and their distancing is quite small, however the pitch fader is bigger than in hercules. Hercules is more well built-in general.
@@rossmaks2587 the 400 is a beast its what i have , for what you get out the box is amazing . i saved money on software and bought a pair of dm40's but the extra outs on the 500 is mice
I just got it as a secondary light-weight equipment but it disappointed me, knobs and faders feel either too heavy or too light. For example tempo fader is very light and eq knobs are heavy to turn. The jog wheels and audio output could be more precise I think but giving the price it is what it is I guess

One billion percent! Platnium effects pro fx (jog wheel, toggle switches, full pitch control) fused with npulse 500 (build quality, stand, beat match guide multiple input/output ports) would have been the best p4p controller on the market.

Would be nice if they added a microphone FX, power adapter, and usb flash drive input. Maybe the next product will be more of a higher end 1000 series.
I know this is off topic from the video but I have an idea for a simple breakdown video that I think would be very appreciated by a lot of your viewers. It first got popular by TotalFratMove and it’s a clip of a dj looping the part of the song antidote by Travis Scott where it says “open up the window” and they keep cutting the beat till all your hearing is o-o-o-o-o and then they drop the intro to mercy where it says “o-o-o-o-o- ok Lamborghini mercy”
It feels like they couldn't decide if they aim for beginners or amateurs/intermediates. Beatmatching guide, little fx section but then customizable pad sections, high quality knobs and great audio interface. I'll stick with my ddj-400 for now until i switch to a Denon prime 4

Depends on a lot of factors like your budget and where will you use it, etc. At the end of the day, it's not just about the gear but how you use it that really counts!
LMAO, got an Inpulse 300 a few weeks ago. It was out of stock everywhere (grab the last one from Amazon). Now I know why. 500 looks like an improve in quality, it looks so good!
lol, im still rocking my hercules rmx 2 TR for 5 years and using it as audio interface because of availability of 4 channel mono input recording or using external devices. this is what entry level controllers should have.
Great review but would be nice to see you perform on that controller too. The led lights on the controller looks more vibrant than on the other videos mentioning that they are a bit dim. How did you manage to get them glow that much. Is there a way to connect an external power adapter with usb? Competition wise, looks like pioneer needs to update ddj 400 or start working for ddj 600 ;)
My one problem is the overly simplified FX. There's plenty of room for dual effect control knobs on the top right of each deck instead of the giant deck numbers. If it had that, I would go buy one as my backup right away
So then if im still a beginner, would you recommend this one over the ddj 400 or sb3? And is this controller still worth it if it doesn't have a dedicated fx knob? Like how essential is it to have a seperate one for fx?

I have a real question. I’m in my 30s and have wanted to DJ since I was a kid. I was born and raised in the Bronx and watched all the DJs and hip hop movies of the 80’s and 90’s. This quarantine has me really thinking about it even more. I’ve been immersing myself in your videos and other DJs on TH-cam. Honestly... is it too late to start now? I will play for about 30 people in an outdoor venue. I'm going to rent two qsc k12 and a kw181 sub. 1) how will my basic all-in-one Hercules input 300 sound with these? Is the sound card good enough to give a good quality or at least decent sound? Or do I absolutely need a mixer
What is better? The inpulse 500 ore Numark Mixtrack Platinum FX? I have the DDJ 400, but only 1 Effect to choose is not so good. Its easyer when i can choose 1 from 4 Effects with only one Button.

Go for what helps you bring out your best DJ game the most Will! I haven't really played around with Djuced yet, so let me know what you find!

Beginner controllers are getting much better. Only wish Serato would start bundling it with the Pro variant.

Anywhos a musician of 30+ yrs couple months ago thinking with all the down time I'd learn to dj. My only problem is when making any major purchases or investment on a item, I have a tendency to spend 6 months to a yr researching it first, course by the time I finally do make the purchase a newer model on the shelves. To mention I very very rarely hardly never buy first gen of a product, I digress.
Having searched (or I may haved overlooked ) through your channel I don't see any reviews for the Roland dj 202 or the Roland dj 505 or the 707? They seem like an excellent equipment for a beginner? course my opinion may be a lil biased having grown up in the ago of The TR-808
As for any video reviews on The Roland dj products, I've found a few but predominantly it's The Pioneer & The Numark, idk

The entry level scene is getting really competitive. I guess my only issue is that you probably do need to purchase serato dj pro which makes this almost as expensive as the kontrol s3, which is more pro dj ready even though traktor may be dying. That being said I would love to get a serato controller as im a rekordbox dj and would like to have the option to learn both this is a great option

I wanted to buy hercules product only bud due to lack of money im buying a used pioneer DDJ RB from a friend. Used one .. and this hercules controllers is my favourite one and i will buy it oneday
The RB isn't bad actually! But save up for an Inpulse; you'll enjoy it and it'll be worth it!

And few days back 200 people came to my dj club and after seeing my small dj controller they just left 😞 and my manager got angry at me and they said if i didn't buy a big one u will be fired. And i don't have enough money . So i posted my phone online for sale ( still noone came). And in selling my old dj machine the small one ( still noone came). And i asked a friend and it cost like Indian rupees 42000 and it's not even affordable for me it's like 500$. And i asked a friend and he have pioneer DDJ RB. And he told me to pay half now. Then pay others half before June 15. It is till a small controller . But I'm thinking i should use my 2 controller in same desk and use it so it looks like 4 deck.
Everyone are not rich as u bro. There are lot of stuggling DJ's like me. Taking families priorities in hands. Especially indian families are joint familys there will be grandma and mom and sis all living together and the whole priorities forcefully in my hand and i work 3 jobs to help my family

This definitely seems like the best bang for the buck for beginner & intermediate deejays. I might pull the trigger on this over the Numark FX Platinum. What's your opinion Carlo?
I prefer this controller to the DDJ-800 now even if the DDJ-800 has more features (including a dedicated FX section).
I got the Impulse 500 used in “like new” condition for $240 including sales tax and it was basically an open box item. So I was definitely lucky in that buy haha.
I use Algoriddim’s Djay Pro for my software instead of Rekordbox since AlphaTheta is charging an arm and a leg for subscription. I also use an iPad Pro instead of a laptop for my DJing as I prefer it to a Macbook. More portable and I use SoundCloud GO+ and Apple Music which are integrated into that DJ software app.
I have a question though, can either of the pair of outputs be a booth output? E.g. the RCA outputs are for the master channel and the 1/4 or 6.5mm jack outputs are for booth monitoring? And vise versa?
Unfortunately, this doesn't have a booth output per say. But you can use both at the same time to connect them to the main room speakers, and a booth monitor. Only caveat is that you won't be able to adjust the volume of your booth speaker from your controller
@@djcarlo Ok thank you for letting me know. The good thing is that my booth monitors have a volume knob on them so that should mitigate their loudness.
Would you say it is better than DDJ400, seems like it has everything DDJ400 has and more. I am hesitating between those two. I especially like more outputs and inputs in Hercules, mic knobs, and metal building. Can you name some advantages of DDJ 400 that Hercules doesn't have? or if that is an option for you you can make a comparison video, thanks )

@@SiriusBlack-wh6uh I got Hercules, but tried out rekordbox recently and liked it a bit more than serato, so ordered DDJ will try it out and will keep the one I prefer more. However, in DDJ I do not like the knobs and their distancing is quite small, however the pitch fader is bigger than in hercules. Hercules is more well built-in general.
@@rossmaks2587 the 400 is a beast its what i have , for what you get out the box is amazing . i saved money on software and bought a pair of dm40's but the extra outs on the 500 is mice
But we should still try our best not to always rely on beatmatch in case anything happens, am I right?

I just got it as a secondary light-weight equipment but it disappointed me, knobs and faders feel either too heavy or too light. For example tempo fader is very light and eq knobs are heavy to turn. The jog wheels and audio output could be more precise I think but giving the price it is what it is I guess
It is a beginner-level controller, so you can't expect *too* much from it haha, but I think it does its job pretty well!

I think manufacturers deliberately leave out features so you eventually buy more expensive equipment. For example the effect section.

I know this is off topic from the video but I have an idea for a simple breakdown video that I think would be very appreciated by a lot of your viewers. It first got popular by TotalFratMove and it’s a clip of a dj looping the part of the song antidote by Travis Scott where it says “open up the window” and they keep cutting the beat till all your hearing is o-o-o-o-o and then they drop the intro to mercy where it says “o-o-o-o-o- ok Lamborghini mercy”

It feels like they couldn't decide if they aim for beginners or amateurs/intermediates. Beatmatching guide, little fx section but then customizable pad sections, high quality knobs and great audio interface.
I'll stick with my ddj-400 for now until i switch to a Denon prime 4

LMAO, got an Inpulse 300 a few weeks ago. It was out of stock everywhere (grab the last one from Amazon). Now I know why. 500 looks like an improve in quality, it looks so good!

lol, im still rocking my hercules rmx 2 TR for 5 years and using it as audio interface because of availability of 4 channel mono input recording or using external devices. this is what entry level controllers should have.

The led lights on the controller looks more vibrant than on the other videos mentioning that they are a bit dim. How did you manage to get them glow that much. Is there a way to connect an external power adapter with usb?

My one problem is the overly simplified FX. There's plenty of room for dual effect control knobs on the top right of each deck instead of the giant deck numbers. If it had that, I would go buy one as my backup right away

ddj 400 has the best standard layout, you can't go wrong for an entry level controller.

i’ve watched many reviews of this controller and i’m really convinced in buying it but there’s only one thing i can’t get straight: is the software djuced comparable with serato dj pro or does it have the same “limitantions” as serato dj lite? Thanks in advance for any reply (possibly)
For me, DJuced is better than Serato Lite, but way more limited in features compared to Serato Pro. It's somewhere in the middle
Such a shame, so disappointing that hercules didnt take these resources and use them to further build the best controller they have- the jogvision

I have a real question. I’m in my 30s and have wanted to DJ since I was a kid. I was born and raised in the Bronx and watched all the DJs and hip hop movies of the 80’s and 90’s. I will play for about 30 people in an outdoor venue. I'm going to rent two qsc k12 and a kw181 sub. 1) how will my basic all-in-one Hercules input 300 sound with these? Is the sound card good enough to give a good quality or at least decent sound? Or do I absolutely need a mixer

What is better? The inpulse 500 ore Numark Mixtrack Platinum FX? I have the DDJ 400, but only 1 Effect to choose is not so good. Its easyer when i can choose 1 from 4 Effects with only one Button.
If your style is to add more than one effects, then this might be your controller! But I don't usually overdo it!
