PSA, you can actually apply 2 FX to one deck in Serato DJ Pro at least. On deck 2, just change which deck it is affecting (it defaults to deck 2, just click the 1). And then you can use knob 2 with an HPF or LPF and knob 1 with echo or whatever you wanna use.

I was buying the DDJ 400 during lockdown but it was out of stock and then this came along with the serato Pro bundle and I was sold and I've been really happy with the inpulse
I've been playing on this for few months. Very nice one. Separate filters and effects is something I've been missing on this controller as well. Regarding tempo sensitivity, it can be adjusted in Djuced easily. But overall I agree, it's a great controller.

Just bought this controller to replace the smaller hercules universal dj model I've been using, mainly because I wanted to stick with Djuced which has been great for any occasional disco work I take on these days. It's certainly a steal (£200) for the money & I'm now having to get familiar with the different layout ( mainly the load buttons & master vol ) But as I didn't want to spend a fortune on a new controller I think from the positive reviews I've seen I've made the right choice 😊

I ended up buying this controller, my decision was partially based on this review, so I'm gonna post my opinion here, guess it could be usefull to someone. The great things: Dedicated vinyl/slip/quantize buttons to begin with. These are great, even essential in my opinion, and pioneer controllers don't have them as far as I know. Loop knob as well as in/out buttons, very useful in my opinion. Pads feel good, nothing to complain about. A pretty rich selection of inputs and outputs. You can have audio coming in from computer via usb, microphone and there would still be two aux inputs left. Also 6,3mm jack out for master and cue, 3,5mm jack cue, and a cinch pair master out. That's pretty great at this price point. Also the mysterious "addon" port which nobody yet knows the purpose of. Jogs are okay, don't have much to compare with as I am a beginner, but never had an issue with them. Good selection of modes on the pads, at least for DJUCED which I'm currently using. Also free software, that's nice. The feet, underlight and metal mixer part. They make it feel one price level higher than it actually is. Knobs a crossfader feel sturdy enough. Dedicated play/pause and cue buttons, thank god they are not just pads like they were in Pioneer DDJ-SB2. Dedicated EQ and volume for mic, filter and volume for aux. The lights that show you which track is currently playing are actually really useful if you tend to easily get distracted for a short while. The light indicators on some knobs are a really cool feature. The things I feel neutral about: FX section. It's really kinda odd, but I think it's mostly about getting used to it. There are some limitations, but having just this fx section kind of, in my opinion, makes you learn how to work better with what you have, instead of giving you a huge range of options that will take much longer to learn how to use properly. You can still obviously change the effects assigned to each button. Beat align/beat match guide. I guess it could be helpful, but let's be honest, when I need to sync, I press the button. Or I watch the monitor instead of the controller and beatmatch "by sight". Probably not the best practice but it is what I do, so the review is obviously subjective. Probably a nice feature, I just didn't end up needing it much. The assistant. It kinda works, the recommendations are usually decent, but I still don't really get the controlls. Sometimes I use the assistent, find a song in it, press load, and it doesn't and I'm not sure why. Also, one kinda weird thing, if you load a song using assistant to one deck and want an exact double on the other deck, you will most likely need to find the song using the browser anyway. The very few things I think they could have done better: Dedicated instant doubles buttons. It's just nice to have them. The outer edge on jog wheels could be metal and the texture is very slightly weird, would prefer dimples like pioneer controllers usually have, but that's a very small detail. I would not complain at all if they pushed the sync button a bit higher or even to the other side and made the tempo slider a bit longer. Even though I said the FX section is okay (and it is), I would probably still prefer at least dedicated filter knobs, but it's really not bad or anything, don't let that put you off. IMHO, the jogs are sturdier/heavier than those on budget pioneer controllers and spin for as long once you let them go. This might mean it could be a bit harder to do a backspin. Very subjective tho. Also, DJUCED still needs a bit more work, and REALLY needs to add support of additional controllers with custom midi mappings. If they could do it like FL studio does, that would be amazing. Overall, I'd give it a solid 8.5/10 in general, or 9.5/10 considering the price and what the competition offers at the same price point. Feel free to ask, or add anything I might have left out.
@@Vacuumhead Honestly, at this price point, probably the DDJ-400 or SB3. Numark Mixtrack Pro/Platinum also seem to be pretty popular choices, so maybe consider those as well. Software matters, sadly (especially since lifetime licenses can cost almost as much ss this controller), and Djuced is just not quite there yet. It's okay as a starter, but if you plan to use any other midi device, like a launchpad for example, you just can't. Rekordbox is great and should be included with the DDJ-400, BUT Ddj-400 came out before recordbox switched to subscription only, so I honestly don't know how the free RB with DDJ-400 works right now. It's probably not a lifetime license, because rekordbox doesn't offer this option anymore, so maybe it's like a year or two for free? Or a few months? If you choose ddj-400, definitely look into that first. SB3 and both Numarks come with Lite version of Serato (which is free anyway, so basically, they come with nothing extra), but they're also decent controllers, even though kinda older, Impulse 500 is probably better. It sure feels kinda premium, considering the price. Also, don't skip on trying out virtualDj. Yes, it used to kinda suck, but not anymore. It's very customizable, can do a lot of stuff (stems for example are really cool), supports community made skins and plugins and has great midi mapping options (although it needs a bit of scripting in their own vdj script, which is really not hard, but can be kinda scary to people who never touched programming). If you don't like subscription based software, Serato and VDJ are pretty much the only good options left. Also, Mixxx is a very cool project, it's completely free, pretty advanced and open source, so if you're into programming, customization has no limits there. If you're not very limited by budget, look for either better controllers, or a good mixer and digital vinyl. I definitely want to switch to digital vinyl if I ever become more advanced, it just seems so much better to me. It's not cheap though.

You missed one point but that was a damn good review. I wish they had left the cheats off this because the learning aids are perfect. I'm impressed and I totally support aids and am absolutely against sync. This is a clever, simple and intuitive approach. Anyway, I'm sold. Ordering tomorrow. I think after 26 years of vinyl, it's about time I say hello to the jog wheel. So the thing you missed was whether there is a hamster feature. I'm very left handed and use hamster a lot so I can just cross my arms to scratch easily on the right deck.
Nice review, yeah the effect section bugged me, but I think I that’s better for beginners, because it forces them to get creative with how they put together their DJ sets.

They only reason i bought a 2nd hand ddj 400 is because the 500 doesnt have serato pro. If hercules removes djuced and just push serato pro, they'll be the best controller in the market!

Hi Phil Had mine a few months ways round your cons on here Already said on here but shift an quantise will move the tempo slider from 8 to 16 then to 50 , A way around the FX buttons an only having one I have remapped my Mic levels so they now control my FX as well as the fx buttons so I can have four FX at once if I want including the HFP I used a small sound desk for my mic Hope that helps some one out
Great review Phil. Is there a way to access a 3rd and 4th virtual deck? Like that feature on the sb3 as I sometimes run an acapella on that. Rare but does come in useful.

Awesome video man! I’ve really been trying to decide whether to get the DJ DDJ-SB3 or the Hercules inpulse 500 after watching lots of review videos. I’m a beginner DJ and been tossing up massively. I have serato DJ pro but just can’t decide which would be best. I know it’s all personal preference but any advice/direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
i have had the inpulse 500 for the past few months and i am a huge fan... imo, it is a pretty decent upgrade from the dj control jogvision that i was using previously, the layout is much more intuitive, as well as the functionality being a solid couple steps up... the one thing in many of the review videos i see creators like yourself lamenting as a con, the fact it comes only with serato lite, i have to disagree it is a con at all, because, imo, its irrelevant... djuced is a much better dj mixing program imo, with more creative options available to 7se with tye inpulse 500 and honestly i dont see any shortcomings that are glaring in comparison to the full version of serato even... i would like to see more reviews that use djuced rather than serato lite as i am interested to see what those who are more experienced than i can come. up with creatively mixing with djuced..... anyway, great review overall, i agree with the vast majority of your take for sure. cheers.
totally agree. djuced is a great program. which analyzes tracks better itself. just search the internet. djuced has high precision analysis for the tracks. like the key. 1.mix in key 76.5%. 2.djuced 74%. 3.tractor pro 73.8%. 12. serato pro 60.6%.

Hi Phil, nice to greet you, Excellent video. I recently bought a DJI500 but the Aux inputs are not working. Is there anything else you need to do? just like you did in the video, I problem it with a cell phone, and nothing then I tried it with an Ipad and the PC by RCA and MiniJack cables but the light (green) of the "AUX" Volume knob does not turn on, it's like if it didn't recognize the audio. Are they defective? cable point out that the Mic input if it works. I appreciate in advance all the collaboration that you can offer me.

Hi. Can you help please? I'm really interested between this and the Numark Platinum FX. But the only thing that is stopping me from purchasing the platinum fx is the limitor lights on the controller are all red (instead of green, orange and red) so I'm assuming the first and second bar is green? The third and fourth is orange? And last one is red? I like that the Hercules has long wide coloured limitors. I have expensive mixers, PA tops, subs, and studio monitors and I keep a very close eye on the limitors all of the time. Can you help me please?
just to let u know, about the missing buttons u were talking about, such as the button that changes the key if u slow down or speed up the tempo, u can do it on ur laptop in djuced its already there u can simply just turn it on or off, idk about serato i never used it but its available in djuced and the button that changes the percentage of the tempo is also available on djuced, besides djuced is for free why would i pay for serato pro just to let me use some features i already paid for to get the controller its just ridicules 😂and no djuced didnt pay me 😂
I have Serato DJ pro, however my controller won’t allow me to use the 5, 6, 7 and 8 hot cue beat pad functions. To reverse, rewind, fast forward and reverse roll. Also, my controller won’t allow me to use all 8 sample triggers. I’m only able to use the top 4 and not 5, 6, 7 and 8. how do I enable these beat pad functions and sample triggers so that I can use them during a set?
A good video idea could be integrating these beginner- intermediate controllers with the likes of a Pioneer DDJ-XP2 which would also solve a lot of the filter/fx issues and meaning it is not a huge cost upgrade
In Serato you can easily midi map pad controllers like a launch pad or APC mini for instance. So controlling FX or triggering samples and controlling sample volume levels, is more easier and accessible.
Love this controller. I'm not sure how much battery it drains, however, I have found that if the laptop isn't plugged into the wall, the sound of the coming out of the controller clips alot.
@@sysy8047 problem that killed the Primo is the unresponsive jog wheel issue. Had they been able to fix that, that would be a beast. Mine just sit now and im using an entry level controller till a better one comes along.

They only reason i bought a 2nd hand ddj 400 is because the 500 doesnt have serato pro. If hercules removes djuced and just push serato pro, they'll be the best controller in the market!
That clipping light is pretty smart. Could you do a comparison with the Pioneer DJ DDJ-REV1?

Had mine a few months ways round your cons on here Already said on here but shift an quantise will move the tempo slider from 8 to 16 then to 50 ,
A way around the FX buttons an only having one I have remapped my Mic levels so they now control my FX as well as the fx buttons so I can have four FX at once if I want including the HFP I used a small sound desk for my mic

Great review Phil. Is there a way to access a 3rd and 4th virtual deck? Like that feature on the sb3 as I sometimes run an acapella on that. Rare but does come in useful.
Hi Phil, excellent review 🙌, I wanted to ask you if in your opinion this console could be a valid choice for interfacing in the professional world or if it would be better to opt for a Pioneer console, given that almost all consoles in clubs are compatible with Rekordbox.

Awesome video man! I’ve really been trying to decide whether to get the DJ DDJ-SB3 or the Hercules inpulse 500 after watching lots of review videos. I’m a beginner DJ and been tossing up massively. I have serato DJ pro but just can’t decide which would be best. I know it’s all personal preference but any advice/direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
i have had the inpulse 500 for the past few months and i am a huge fan... imo, it is a pretty decent upgrade from the dj control jogvision that i was using previously, the layout is much more intuitive, as well as the functionality being a solid couple steps up... the one thing in many of the review videos i see creators like yourself lamenting as a con, the fact it comes only with serato lite, i have to disagree it is a con at all, because, imo, its irrelevant... djuced is a much better dj mixing program imo, with more creative options available to 7se with tye inpulse 500 and honestly i dont see any shortcomings that are glaring in comparison to the full version of serato even... i would like to see more reviews that use djuced rather than serato lite as i am interested to see what those who are more experienced than i can come. up with creatively mixing with djuced..... anyway, great review overall, i agree with the vast majority of your take for sure. cheers.
totally agree. djuced is a great program. which analyzes tracks better itself. just search the internet. djuced has high precision analysis for the tracks. like the key. 1.mix in key 76.5%. 2.djuced 74%. 3.tractor pro 73.8%. 12. serato pro 60.6%.

Hi Phil, nice to greet you, Excellent video. I recently bought a DJI500 but the Aux inputs are not working. Is there anything else you need to do? just like you did in the video, I problem it with a cell phone, and nothing then I tried it with an Ipad and the PC by RCA and MiniJack cables but the light (green) of the "AUX" Volume knob does not turn on, it's like if it didn't recognize the audio. Are they defective? cable point out that the Mic input if it works. I appreciate in advance all the collaboration that you can offer me.

Hi. Can you help please? I'm really interested between this and the Numark Platinum FX. But the only thing that is stopping me from purchasing the platinum fx is the limitor lights on the controller are all red (instead of green, orange and red) so I'm assuming the first and second bar is green? The third and fourth is orange? And last one is red?
I like that the Hercules has long wide coloured limitors. I have expensive mixers, PA tops, subs, and studio monitors and I keep a very close eye on the limitors all of the time. Can you help me please?
What about the faders ? Does they feel solid ? I"ve had a Denon MC 2000 before and the where great but he is now dead.
Unfortunately the cue buttons wear out after 6 months
just to let u know, about the missing buttons u were talking about, such as the button that changes the key if u slow down or speed up the tempo, u can do it on ur laptop in djuced its already there u can simply just turn it on or off, idk about serato i never used it but its available in djuced and the button that changes the percentage of the tempo is also available on djuced, besides djuced is for free why would i pay for serato pro just to let me use some features i already paid for to get the controller its just ridicules 😂and no djuced didnt pay me 😂

I have Serato DJ pro, however my controller won’t allow me to use the 5, 6, 7 and 8 hot cue beat pad functions. To reverse, rewind, fast forward and reverse roll. Also, my controller won’t allow me to use all 8 sample triggers. I’m only able to use the top 4 and not 5, 6, 7 and 8. how do I enable these beat pad functions and sample triggers so that I can use them during a set?
Can you use the 500 on an existing Serato Dj Pro on a laptop that’s already being used for another mixer NS7iii??
A good video idea could be integrating these beginner- intermediate controllers with the likes of a Pioneer DDJ-XP2 which would also solve a lot of the filter/fx issues and meaning it is not a huge cost upgrade
In Serato you can easily midi map pad controllers like a launch pad or APC mini for instance. So controlling FX or triggering samples and controlling sample volume levels, is more easier and accessible.
I don't know whether to get the Mixtrack platinum or the Hercules inpulse 500??

Hey ! How much battery does it drain off your laptop ?
Love this controller. I'm not sure how much battery it drains, however, I have found that if the laptop isn't plugged into the wall, the sound of the coming out of the controller clips alot.

Neither. For £349 you can get the Mixars Primo that's what I did and came with Serato Pro and the unit is full metal.
@@sysy8047 problem that killed the Primo is the unresponsive jog wheel issue. Had they been able to fix that, that would be a beast. Mine just sit now and im using an entry level controller till a better one comes along.

Hi does anyone have random issues with the Mix/Cue and not being able to hear music with your headphones while using the 500 & Serato Pro? If so any luck fixing it.
I had the same issue, turned out it was actually a issue with my laptop. Changed the laptop and no issues since.
