Upgraded from an FLX6 to an RX3... bruuuuuuh day and night. I'd rather focus my technique on 2 channels than having 4 and not being good at it for the moment. RX3 is my family now
Would you agree that could be arguable depending on the genre you mix…? For example dnb where having more channels counts a lot more towards an energetic set
@@DUCKSXLE Tbh i have a bad feeling with having more channels than players. I got to play in clubs with 3 or 4 CDJ and i'm ok with that. But when it comes to bringing my own gear well, it has to be practical and not as expensive as a full setup... That's why i took the RX3 and not the XZ (the price difference is not that big). And i play various styles : can be some pop commercial sounds for a birthday, but also house, hard techno, psytrance... You may say that i'm not a good DJ for using only 2 channels etc... But the thing is that every time the crowd enjoy what i play so that's already a win !
Personally, 4 tracks for me is not enough as I would like to have 8 or 16 audio faders & EQs or tracks, just so I can have up to 16 audio files on standby, ready to go play them live (whether I record them as a mixtape or live performances without pre-recording files necessary).
I consider myself a above beginner DJ. I’ve had a handful of controllers throughout my years of learning. I recently got the prime 4+ and man… it is such a HUGE jump from the controllers I’ve bought. It is such a beautiful piece of gear. I go up to it EVERYDAY after work to just play and have fun. It’s AMAZING! I 100% recommend the prime 4+
Upgraded from the Numark Platinum FX to the Denon Prime 4+ two months ago. Such a beauitful unit, the ability to use serato and the build-in engine dj (which is an awesome dj software btw.) is just awesome, but what i really like is the haptics of it. It just feels good to mix with it, the knobs, the jogwheels, the faders, everything feels well built and high quality. Denon is really on their way to conquer the market for the standard club gear.
I actually switched from my Prime 4 to the Pioneer FLX 10. Engine DJ has it's advantages but beatmatching and just its general use feel lacking. I personally am not such a fan of Serato as it feels laggy and the UI is all over the place. And since Pioneer still dominates the club scene it just made sense. But yeah theres no denying that the hardware of the Denon is supreme. It feels really nice to use.
@@DJTimeLock while I can work with pioneer and rekordbox I'm not such a fan of rekordbox. For me it's just too blank. But I guess this is because I started with serato and used it since then. While engine dj still has it's problems I see that they work hard to make it better with each update.
I bought a XDJ-XZ years ago and it's my best 1000$+ ever spent!! It has all the features of the CDJs in clubs so I'm able to become familiar with the layout and controls of the professional equipment when I get gigs!
Just upgraded from a DDJ REV1 to the new Inpulse T7 and I have so much fun now! What a nice controller for the price! It’s crazy how you can get really creative with the Inpulse T7. If you’re into motorized platters and a bit in a budget, go for it!
REV-7 user here, and I completely agree. The T7 is phenomenal for the price! Enjoy your gear...If i didn't already have mine, I'd definitely be buying the T7.
Haha literally upgraded to the FLX10 from the DDJ 400 yesterday. It feels great to use. I also have a Denon Prime 4. The Hardware is amazing but the software is lacking sadly.
@@aitiax3497 I just googled it and some stores we bought from before offered them. Seems like they're delivered in batches though. And they all have the same set price (imposed by Pioneer i'm guessing)
what do you think about the build quality? having a flx6 since 2 years and it‘s absolutely sad to see how it‘s dying. the knobs i‘m using the most are losing tightness a lot & the controller always dies and reboots when turning beat fx on/off
Around a year ago I was watching this video dreaming about maybe one day getting a controller and learning how to dj. Fast forward I saved up enough money and got an FLX-10 for my first controller. And now I’m 4 months in to the learning process. Best thing I’ve ever spent money on. The controller feels great and is great for mashups
I think I regards to the Opus Quad not having performance pads, neither do CDJS. I’m guessing they were trying to mimic the layout of the CDJ3000 pretty closely so they dropped the performance pads. Besides since a lot of clubs run CDJs I’d imagine it’s best to not get used to performance pads anyway because not all venues you’ll play at will have a setup with performance pads.
I have an opus quad myself and its an incredible machine! In clubs i use the CDJ3000 and in my parties I use the Opus. The only ESSENTIAL thing lacking is Slip mode. I have no idea why pioneer removed it. It’s so useful.
I was just thinking about something when mentioned the pads on the Opus Quad, could you use a Pioneer XP2 in conjunction with it?? that would be complete set up there. Give it a try DJ Carlo and let us know 🤟🏽
I upgraded from a DDJ-SB3 Serato to the FLX10 Serato and after watching this video I have a few questions on the FLX10. 1) The HPF Color FX seems weak?? HPF on the FLX10 sounds like reducing the vol. Not reducing the bass and doesn't give that squelch sound like the SB3 2) Can the In/Out loop be quantized? I am finding live 1 beat manual loops difficult to get perfect. 3) Do you find you need to push the platter firmly and compared to other controllers is it good? The SB3 had a light nice touch/feel. I am getting used to the FLX10 platter but I expected a much nicer feel. 4) Is there a way of enabling pre-saved loops from the controller in Serato. 5) I assume that the volume on the color FX can't be adjusted. Space for instance can sound very loud depending where it's used. I appreciate all your content. I've been watching for 3 years now. Many thanks!!
1) I didn't notice the difference! Maybe it's hardware vs software in this case 2) Check my latest video on Settings for this one! 3) You can adjust the jogwheel's tension to your liking 4) From what I know, not with Serato. That's more of a Rekordbox thing 5) I think this can only be done in the settings of your DJ program, but I'm not too sure on this one as well
No matter what brand or kind of dj controller you have as long as you know how to maximize the full potantial of it . Its still powerful as most high end models . Even a small numark 2go or event hercules control can rock a crowd . Crown do not even judge from what you are using . And take note you can also dj without event using dj controllers . Just by using a laptop or event you smartphone. PEACE UPPPPPP
I know this is completely irrelevant to the video, but I have to update you on my progression brother! Last night we had another crazy night at the club....to keep it short and to the point, people were chanting "one more song". You know how it feels xD
All in the name of fun! (Which is something I think MANY DJ's I have met through the tenure at this club) The ones that come in, and sit in the corner watching me... isn't just creepy, it's hilarious haha. Then ofc I hear from GOOD friends that "someone" was saying I'm a shitty dj lol. I'll continue judging myself by the crowds reactions
I'm still scratching head about my DDJ 400. Its decent equipment what i bought back in 2021, but lately i've been liking "Double mashup" songs and its an tough one to leave those tracks fade away to switch next ones. I've been balancing between FLX 6 or go all out on DDJ - 1000. Sure i saw some cheaper sides on a "Serato" side, but i want to stick with Rekordbox.
I'd highly recommend going all out for a 1000 or FLX10 man! The 400 is great, but if you've gone beyond it in terms of skill level, it's time to upgrade
The Hercules DJ Control Mix and Numark DJGO2 are great on the go tools that you should have anyway either at your desk or on the go when doing library management or testing out tracks also a great backup unit.
I've been using my DDJ-SX2 for quite some time and I was contented to use it until the end of 2025 but when I saw the flx10, I knew I had to have it, so over the next few days I plan on placing my order for one.
Hi Carlo, I am getting a less used traktor s4 mk3 in USD 420... Shall I go for it?? I love tratkor because of the effects section.... Please suggest is this a wise decision?? your recommendations ??
I bought an NS4FX because I couldn't justify spending so much on a FLX6 to not get XLRs. Where I live, NS4FX w/ Serato pro license is $1146 (full price) vs $1499 (on special) for FLX6.
Thinking of moving from the numark platinum FX straight to the rane performer. Way more stuff than I can handle now, but it'll be there when I'll be ready. Expensive, but it is the only one that fits my wish to learn to scratch and 4 channel mixing.
Your videos are wonderful for us, but I have a question for you. Actually I’m planning to buy dj controller but I can’t choose what I need to buy. Ddj flx-10 is a good choice but xdj-rx3 is too. Which one do you prefer, yes I know that they are in different categories but which one has the most functionality? Which one do you recommend us to buy in 2024?
Im trying to get into dj'ing and im trying to pick between the flx 4 and the flx6 gt. Which should i get. I am planning on going more pro in the future and idk if i should break budget.
I have this uncommon question, and I have never asked it before. How dj works in band? Or what can DJs do in a band? Just like Dj santa monica from "Man With A Mission" band.
FLX10 or Prime 4+ Guys? I am so torn.. the fact that the Prime can hook up to SS is really swaying me away from Pioneer as I am not keen on Pioneers lighting program
I love your content, thank you! I would need your opinion on which controller you would recommend for me as a professional DJ. I've been doing this for many years, but what I really value is simplicity and portability. Thank you very much.
Great video! Thanks for all the valuable info. I’ve always been interested in becoming a Dj as music is life. I’m quite a quick learner, would you recommend a 2 channel setup to get started or go straight for a 4 channel like the T7 or Flx6 Gt?
Hey we pinpointed what it is it is definitely key lock I plugged my flx4 into my computer it sounds fine but when I plug it into my phone it's high pitched idk where to find key lock or the other stuff on mobile to change it
saving my gig $ for rane one (somehow managed to do two gigs today, i’m so tired) i got $300 for the first one, idk how much i’m getting paid for the second one yet, but i’ve made ~$100 in tips after counting cash and venmo
I love pioneer controllers but it's not well made for serato. The DDJ-SX2 was, but I don't really know which one can truly replace it. I'm looking for a serato compatible hardware with performance pads.
You missed out the Hercules Starlight which is not hampered by the need to use your smartphone or bluetooth for the output-yeah the output is only mini-jack but it makes it a MUCH better piece of kit
I didn't! I was trying to focus on newer gear here, and even dropped some of the ones that came out in 2022. The Starlight came out in 2019, so I felt like it already had it's rounds in the market 😊
What would you say is the most cost-effective rekordbox controller if the goal is to become more comfortable on standard club CDJ/DJM setups and more easily prep sets in rekordbox?
@@djcarloI see it, dont really like the look of it for some reason and I want to explore serato as well. i have the light for now. will upgrade to the pro. So which one you recommend Master Carlo. I wiah you a wonderful Holiday DJ Carlo!
Do you think you could potentially make a video on the pitch featuring cause I'm still having trouble figuring it out plus it could potentially help others having this issue
To be honest, I'm really not sure how to even start addressing the problem as Ive never encountered something like that. My previous reply is an educated guess based on what you said. If you can send a video showing your controller and laptop to my FB page, that may be useful in diagnosing the issue
DJ Carlo this might be a stupid question but I’m into music from the 80s and 90s and some 2000s like club music, freestyle music and house music. Is there any record Pool that has music from those eras?
I recently purchased the REV5 and I cannot get the FX to work on separate channels. For instance if I lock the paddle to a Delay FX on channel 2 to do some scratching with delays, then I set channel 1 to lock for Reverb on a beat track both channels audio come out with delay and reverb. Even if I have the delay and reverb on separate channels. I have watched all the tutorials from Serato and they use a different Controller to do their tutorials where you can separate the FX. I wrote 3 very clear emails to Serato support and have not gotten a clear answer. Maybe I have to Midi Map this??? but that seems silly for such a basic function on such a nice piece of equipment. Yes everything on my computer is updated and firmware/ software too. If this is just how this controller works I'm selling it. The rest of the controlled is so dope but FX bleed is really not good. Stems work great! Lol If you have any idea on how to fix this it's appreciated. I'll toss ya $10 or something lol I've already spent 4 days trying to figure this out. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but the Serato support is not good so I still have no idea.
I recall seeing that you can activate 2 effects at once on Serato, but that was a very long time ago. If you can, could you send a video or screen recording to my FB page with the problem? I'm not sure if im imagining the right thing
@@djcarlo I tried to find your dj page but there are so many people named DJ Carlo, I know you are the best but please send me a link. Thank you, and thank you so much for your time... Serato has been not helpful with support... Im so sorry to bother you.... ;(
Your other review for DDJ FLX4 had quite a few not so good things to say about it, but in this video you say it’s a great tool to buy. Would you say it’s better now?
I really love my hercules impulse 500 and I think it is a very good controller for 300 students of college . I think I can do a gig with it perfectly but what do you think , I need your suggestion because I don't have money for big gears and that's why I need your advice
I'm actually not sure. I usually just have the programs do the stem analysis nowadays, but they have to be in 320kbps or a similarly high quality to get the best isolated elements
I was looking in the budget of the Pioneer, DJ flx ? I think it’s FLX. But I need loudspeakers not those little ones . Can I use my Peavey mixer amp I use for vocals to power speakers for the pioneer Dj fl It might be DJ DJ. I need it to hang with an electric guitar sometimes loud with the distortion . I figured I would use that to make my own beat tracks and then I can jam with it and hopefully the scratches and wipes would be recorded on there as well ? I subscribed earlier 💯❤️
@@djcarlo yes LOL yes I do. I’m not playing for people in my living room. I need “power”⚡️ actual gigs 🎵 The most important part is being able to hook your gear up to louder equipment . The DJ thing seems more of a hobby than an actual profession. I’ve never seen this side of DJing before. Maybe I’m just behind on the times, but it used to be a real thing. Are they just making equipment for people to pretend to be DJ’s at their house ? …. What about block parties? Am I missing something? Why would the manufacturers or creators of this technology Not want you to be heard ? They made them so I can “Not” run the speaker outputs through a “professional” PA-Amp? And how would that “not” be the main selling point? Honestly, I don’t understand. If you could just fill me in, I’ll get to the bottom of the rest of it. No wonder there’s no famous DJs anymore. People would have to have thousands and thousands of dollars just to share their work. So this is just an extremely expensive toy kit ? …..It sounds pretty good to me. If just one person will just explain this to me, I’ll get to the bottom of it .
I don't agree on some of these choices, these seems mainly in the Pioneer direction for low-mid hardware. For instance, the Numark Mixtrack Pro fx is not in this list ? Between the FLX4 and 300MK2. It had excellent jogwheels. They don't have a USB-C connector, which for me is a good thing as these are usually fragile. Pitch butttons are also great. Same with FLX6, the NS4FX is very close in price but you won't need to buy a DIBOX or small mixer to obtain XLR outputs. on NS4FX and Mitrrack pro fx, there are ways to map the effects to be able to use the mall. So why are these two not on the list ? I have nothing against pioneer, i saw the FLX6 in multiple parties and it is great but not mentioning these choices seems the WRONG direction (wrong in capital to take your title ;))
Simply put, many of the controllers mentioned are a little older. The NSF4X was featured on last year's list, and the FLX6 only got a mention because of the GT re-release from not too long ago. Numark's latest entry is the Mixstream Pro Go, hence it's inclusion here. I'm sure there'll be differences in next year's list too. Rane will have an entry there I guarantee you
That's exactly why! Because they're old. Like 90% of the controllers on this video were released in 2023. Traktor only released the X1 mk3, and I don't even remember when the last actual controller was released
Really surprised the numark nvii isn't mentioned here. It's one of the best 4 channel controllers under 1000 and has screens that allow to get used to not looking at your laptop
I actually get messages about that every year! 2 reasons really: 1) I believe it's been discontinued/archived already (and it's seriously due for an update!) 2) It's pretty old now. 90% of the controllers here were released this year, with the rest still being from this decade haha
Hi, I'm Claudio from Italy, congratulations for your videos which are always very inspiring, I wanted to ask you if you tried scratching on the pioneer flx10 and if you were happy with the jogwheels? because I bought it recently and the jogwheels have a sensitivity problem for scratching, in practice I am forced to apply more pressure than is needed to prevent the jogwheels from continuing to move forward and therefore making me lose the right point of the sample which I use for scratching. If I keep the pressure on the jogwheel too light, it doesn't stop when I would like to stop it or simply bring the sample back to the right point. I'll start by saying that I have always used pioneer without any problems and the last controller I used was the flx6 with which I was able to scratch perfectly without any problem... do you know if there are any tips or utilities that allow you to set the pressure on the jogwheels correctly? Thanks for your attention, Claudio.
@djcarlo Hi DJ Carlo Iam a hip hop producer who does alot of sampling. I do alot of beat matching as well. Also scratching. which would you prefer? I like to mainly work in standalone with my mpc 5000. Thanks!!!
DjCarlo can you tell me what you would choose between the rev7 and the flx10?? I have a rev 7 thinking sbout getting a flx10 but keeping my rev7 as well
I just killed my Denon prime Go. Very sad. I was going to buy a new one, but then I thought there might be a better option. I use Tidal. I still want a stand-alone, but are there better offers right now? Thaks for great content ☺️
That's.....really it Shamax! The only other ones out there that I know are the older iterations of the RX, Prime 4, Mixstream, etc. Maybe the Prime Go. They're just scattered around other videos
If I would pick the best DJ gear of this year or all time, A customizable DJ Controller would absolutely be my top favorite of all time (If It Exists That Is).
as someone who is just getting into Dj ing, should i start out with a "cheap" deck like the ddj-flx4, or safe up a bit and go for something like the flx 10 from the get go?
Looking for my next purchase to upgrade from the DJControl Inpulse 200. And im wondering... is the Hercules DJControl Inpulse 500 still worth it? Or has it become outdated? If not what should be my next DJ controller? Thank youuu
great breakdown and transition into your course (not being sarcastic!) one thing I'd mention and presumably you are leaving it out on purpose: pioneer dominate because newer DJs who have aspirations to play in clubs opt to shift to pioneer (at least for mostly electronic). i made the switch from serato and denon and now i only use rekordboxs (but can play on denon gear with iffy beatgrids)
I am a beginner and my budget is kinda tight right now but I want a controller that will last for sometime and will be able to use it on some jobs too (weddings, parties, small bars) and become a backup later on when i will upgrade to something better. So I found a Numark mixtrack platinum FX in a pretty good condition for 150 euros do you think is worth it in 2024?
@@djcarlo What kind? I was looking into hercules inpulse series, but I noticed that the djuiced software won’t run on my laptop, because of memory problem. Rekordbox eats half as much memory, and I cannot afford a laptop upgrade as well this time. I also should mention that I am a complete beginner, I have never owned a dj controller in my life. A friend of my has flx4 which I recently tried and it made me fell in love in dj-ing, but I feel like I should go a bit higher, since I want to stick to the controller for multiple years.
Awesome video! I have been DJing since april ish last year on my ddj 400 and it is nice and simple. I do not mix crazy technical as where it play mostly call for song selection and smooth transitions - nobody cares about cool dj trick there(or even sick house bangers). The club/bar i am working at just got the RX3, and now i am considering going a for music pool like Crate Connect. Like it is still possible for me to bring my ddj 400, but i think it would be much nicer just using the RX3. What are everyone's thoughts? :D
The FLX4 hasn’t been in stock for a while, at least not here in Canada. Is there a similar controller to it you could recommend, I was thinking of the Hercules impulse 500 but wanted to see what a pro thinks
@@djcarlo Is the FLX4 in stock in America. Is it just that their so popular stock runs out fast? Also comparison between the 500 and numark platinum fx which do you think is better for beginners?
been using the flx4 for a month and i can tell you, this controller is helping me a lot learning how to dj, and im not using the smart features, its just a complete controller in my opinion, and it already helps you to get familiar with the pioneer stuff for more advanced gear if you dream to play in clubs
Hey Carlo you should do a review on (The Next Beat by Tiësto, DJ Decks For Beginners, DJ Controller, DJ Mixer 2022) would like to know if it's any good.
It's only better than the 109$ unit and that's not by much in my opinion. It does come with tutorials for doing. But if you follow Carlo I honestly think almost anything 199$ is better. Ddj 200 would be a better buy, hercules 200 would be better. I've been researching what deck I want for the past 6 years. Still haven't chosen what I want. But I know what I don't want. And tests ain't it. But it looks OK and has his name on it, so it has that going for it I guess
I have the Tiesto and it’s better than I expected. It’s the same build quality as my Reloop Ready but not as solid as my NI S2 MK3. Mind you I paid something like $125 including tax and shipping.
I would like to purchase something like this for my 12yr old son who over his head into music and wanting to be a DJ at all family events lol - i have question about the Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX4 2-Channel DJ Controller - 1st will it work with and Ipad 2nd question is Spotify able to be used to play music 3rd question is this to much for a beginner and if so what else can you recommend with speakers / ipad / Spotify compatibility thats not more that $300 if there is something thank you for any information. Blessings
The FLX4 can work with an iPad that has Rekordbox Mobile. Unfortunately, you can't play off of Spotify as Spotify no longer offers support to DJ programs. You'll need to source the music from other sites or other compatible streaming services.
If I want to learn on something and I want to learn at the same time”industry standard” like being able to walk into a club and play their equipment with just my music on me, what do you recommend? I like mixing house or minimal techno or tech house
hey Carlo, great video! right now, im doing open format djing. i want to be able to use both Serato DJ Pro and Rekordbox so deciding between the Rev5 and FLX10. I hear that the Rev5 is geared more towards Serato where the FLX10 is for Rekordbox. i find mixing in serato and stems is better for hip hop with the Rev5. would i get the same quality with the FLX10 with serato?
I'd recommend getting something in this video with that! The RR and 800 are amazing, but also somewhat dated nowadays. With the way technology moves, I'm always scared about the hardware suddenly going belly up haha
Could you suggest me?This is going to be my first ddj since I've been djing on ipad with dj pro AI for while and I like to work with stem Would you suggest FLX10 or Mixon 8 pro?
Any specific recommendation for a controller under 500$ that will function best with Serato stems? Inpulse 500 maybe? Or possibly just hold out to grab the T7? I'm coming back into the DJ'ing world after 12 years...my last setup I had was a pair of CDJ800's hahah
@@djcarlo Thanks! Yeah, I'm going to go with that controller. I feel like I'll have a bit of an advantage in this digital era coming from the times of beatmatching by ear :)
hey thanks for making these videos they are very informative. im starting from 0 lol but im about to get your course and some equipment. im deciding between Pioneer XDJ-XZ and Pioneer XDJ-RX3. which do you think would be better for a beginner ?
Thats a good question unfortunately. Sometimes, they're still up on Crate Connect, but you just need to keep snooping around, maybe on other similar Record Pools
@@djcarlo Thanks man, I've been learning a lot from you. Btw I also subscribed to BPM Supreme. Other than the 2, can you suggest more record pools where I can find tracks like e.g "Sunset Daze - Selfish" TIA!
Man, personally I would love to see a company that would allow you to customize what kind of DJ equipment you would ever want (A controller, DVS, CDJ/XDJ, Club, Performance, Portable, Bedroom, etc.) that you could ever want. You can make it as complicated and complex, or as simple and easy to use for beginners (including those whom have autism or don't have any musical, choir, or band experience either). Having the company create your own controller allows you to easy figure out what you want for every scenario you can think of, and you would know ALL the parts considering you would be the one to setup and know exactly how you would set up (plus, it would be fun that way, and it's like ordering a custom made PC or Linux computer/electronic that you know how it works, the ins and outs, the ports, features, specs, etc.)....Some of these controllers I feel ends up trying to be a middle ground, which I don't mind but it makes it difficult for say individuals whom have other activities or events going on that are not DJ related, or features that get removed or replaced over time. So for me, being able to customize how I want my DJ equipment to be would allow me to save so much money down the road, as I can easily just replace the parts over time, and it'll make warranties and issues non-existent 5/10/15/20 years from now. In fact, considering I don't use my DJ controller often due to its massive size, using just the computer, keyboard, mouse, and using keyboard shortcuts on the software program, has helped me become used to using the DJ software program without the controller, DVS, or Club/Music Festival equipment. But again, I'm a person willing to adapt to many different controllers, even if I don't know much of it or wish to look into it so I can improve my performance down the road. I find myself to using a gaming laptop for DJaying, since the graphics card and ram on the laptop not only helps with gaming, but also with intensive tasks say stem creation files, video and audio performance, as well as multiple windows opened and ready to be used without lag or slowdowns. At the end of the day, what matters the most is what music you bring to the table. If they end up being awful or don't work out very well, you can either replace them with something else, or switch to something better for the crowd to like it. In terms of music that I download, I always download it in FLAC, AIFF, or WAV files, as I can always convert/downgrade them to M4A, AAC, WMA, MP3, ALAC, or OGG Vorbis for storage/space saving reasons, but I tend to convert them to MP3 320Kbps formats to keep quality good, but save on storage, whereas the WAV files act as the origin file of the song/audio file itself.
@@djcarlo That too. But again, much like having to choose which mods you want in steam games, those can take a while, and Especially doing trial and error to get used to the controls (even I have yet to get used to some of the controls on VirtualDJ8 for my DDJ-SZ controller so)... Having the DJ equipment customized from the start gives you a good idea of how its made, the designs you create, and can also troubleshoot much easily and find replaceable parts (almost akin to that of being not only a DJ quality assurance tester, but also a tinker of DJ or audio equipment)....But again, until that day comes, we're stuck with companies making too many controllers and equipment for something that may end up discontinued 5/10 years from now.

It just feels good to mix with it, the knobs, the jogwheels, the faders, everything feels well built and high quality. Denon is really on their way to conquer the market for the standard club gear.
Indeed! They've really been upping their game!
Just bought mine, it really feels an upgrade for me!
I have the prime 4+ and the numark pro go love them❤
I bought a XDJ-XZ years ago and it's my best 1000$+ ever spent!! It has all the features of the CDJs in clubs so I'm able to become familiar with the layout and controls of the professional equipment when I get gigs!
It's an excellent controller! It might be due for a v2 soon actually
@@djcarlo Where did you read that? Any idea when? I'm waiting on it. Thanks! I want that RX3 screen
@@MadelnMachines I guess the Quad is kind of an XZ V2 but weird looking
Just upgraded from a DDJ REV1 to the new Inpulse T7 and I have so much fun now! What a nice controller for the price! It’s crazy how you can get really creative with the Inpulse T7. If you’re into motorized platters and a bit in a budget, go for it!
Indeed! Been getting good feedback on it, and I personally love it too!
REV-7 user here, and I completely agree. The T7 is phenomenal for the price! Enjoy your gear...If i didn't already have mine, I'd definitely be buying the T7.
3 months rocking my Pioneer DDJ FLX-10 and nothing to complain. Yes, it's not cheap, but if you want top Pioneer quality you gotta pay the price.
Indeed! It's pretty much my favorite one of this year's releases!
As a FLX10 owner, I could not recommend it more. I upgraded to it from the ddj400 when it came out in the summer and I absolutely love it.
No going back from that one to be honest! The FLX10 is stunning!
Haha literally upgraded to the FLX10 from the DDJ 400 yesterday. It feels great to use. I also have a Denon Prime 4. The Hardware is amazing but the software is lacking sadly.
Where did you get yours. Looking for one since a couple of months now and I cannot find a place to get one.
It's wonderful, isn't it? One of my current favorites
That's a fair assessment! But I do still feel strange about them not being on a controller, but I guess that's just me hahaha
Give it a try DJ Carlo and let us know 🤟🏽
Running 3x Pioneer XDJ1000 and an Allen&Heath Xone:96
Perfect for Techno.
Sounds like a good combo!
I upgraded from a DDJ-SB3 Serato to the FLX10 Serato and after watching this video I have a few questions on the FLX10.
1) The HPF Color FX seems weak?? HPF on the FLX10 sounds like reducing the vol. Not reducing the bass and doesn't give that squelch sound like the SB3
2) Can the In/Out loop be quantized?
Maybe it's hardware vs software in this case
2) Check my latest video on Settings for this one!
3) You can adjust the jogwheel's tension to your liking
4) From what I know, not with Serato. That's more of a Rekordbox thing
5) I think this can only be done in the settings of your DJ program, but I'm not too sure on this one as well
No matter what brand or kind of dj controller you have as long as you know how to maximize the full potantial of it . Its still powerful as most high end models . Even a small numark 2go or event hercules control can rock a crowd . Crown do not even judge from what you are using . And take note you can also dj without event using dj controllers . Just by using a laptop or event you smartphone. PEACE UPPPPPP
In the end, it's all about making sure everyone has a great night!
Migrated from Pioneer to the Prime 4+. Took some getting used to, but so worth it.
Indeed! The Prime 4+ is an absolute unit!
I know this is completely irrelevant to the video, but I have to update you on my progression brother!
Last night we had another crazy night at the club....to keep it short and to the point, people were chanting "one more song". You know how it feels xD
Eyyyyy, it's been a while broskie! Congratulations on capturing the club again! You did it!
All in the name of fun! (Which is something I think MANY DJ's I have met through the tenure at this club)
The ones that come in, and sit in the corner watching me... isn't just creepy, it's hilarious haha.
Indeed! These ones are extremely handy for quick mixing
I've been using my DDJ-SX2 for quite some time and I was contented to use it until the end of 2025 but when I saw the flx10, I knew I had to have it, so over the next few days I plan on placing my order for one.
Woohoo! Great choice for an upgrade!
I would like to ask why you don't mention, or recommend the software Virtual DJ?
I just don't happen to use VDJ. Its a great software, but im already happy with the ones I do use.
Hi Carlo, I am getting a less used traktor s4 mk3 in USD 420... Shall I go for it?? I love tratkor because of the effects section.... Please suggest is this a wise decision?? your recommendations ??
DO it!
I bought an NS4FX because I couldn't justify spending so much on a FLX6 to not get XLRs. Where I live, NS4FX w/ Serato pro license is $1146 (full price) vs $1499 (on special) for FLX6.
The NS4FX is great! The XLRs really bring it a step above the FLX6 for me
Thinking of moving from the numark platinum FX straight to the rane performer. Way more stuff than I can handle now, but it'll be there when I'll be ready.
Expensive, but it is the only one that fits my wish to learn to scratch and 4 channel mixing.
Go for it! That's a big jump, but a worthwhile one
The FLX10 is more up my alley, as an open format DJ. It really depends on your DJing style and preferences
I just bought a DDJ-400, trying to just learn the basics until I get good enough to buy something newer and with more features.
The 400 is a great unit to start with!
Sorry for the timing… where did you find it from? Was it new?
Im trying to get into dj'ing and im trying to pick between the flx 4 and the flx6 gt. Which should i get. I am planning on going more pro in the future and idk if i should break budget.
Between those two, I'd personally go for the FLX 4
I have this uncommon question, and I have never asked it before. How dj works in band? Or what can DJs do in a band? Just like Dj santa monica from "Man With A Mission" band.
It really depends! Some add scratch work, others manipulate the music if they're an electronic band.
FLX10 or Prime 4+ Guys? I am so torn.. the fact that the Prime can hook up to SS is really swaying me away from Pioneer as I am not keen on Pioneers lighting program
I feel like you've already answered your question there! Only advantage the FLX10 has is that it has dedicated Stems buttons
hey y'all, do u think the Hercules Inpulse 500 is still a good choice for a beginner like me?
yes. the 500 is a good entry level controller
It is! Just waiting now for a Mk2 of it if ever one comes out
Personally I believe the prime 4+ is the best/better standalone system engine dj is a great software system.
It's an amazing piece of hardware indeed! The fact that Engine DJ still gets updated so often is just the cherry on top of it all!
Another great video Carlo, long live your channel!
Thanks Embazle! Will make sure to keep up the work!
DJ Carlo - which is the smarter buy - NS4FX or Inpulse T7? Also throw Mixstream Pro Go in the mix.
Inpulse T7 if you have a good laptop. Mixstream Pro Go if you dont'
Thanks my brother! Hey why so much hate on the net (not from you) for the NS4FX? Have you had experience with the sound quality or anything else?
Honestly, I have no idea. I just don't like the heavy jog wheel, but personally, I say it's pretty great overall!
so do you think the RANE Four is a better choice instead the FLX10? thanks for comment and very good video.
It is if you're using Serato
Like G-ZERO said, yeah. If you're a Serato user, the Rane Four is perfect
@@dj_gzero thanks a lot!

I love your content, thank you! I would need your opinion on which controller you would recommend for me as a professional DJ. I've been doing this for many years, but what I really value is simplicity and portability. Thank you very much.
The FLX4 would be the best for simplicity and portability I'd say. The rest are heavier on features and whatnot

Denon on SC Live 4 🏆
For the price considering is a standalone controller and 4 channel, Serato Pro including. Is the winner of 2024. Just $1,299
It's one of the best all around controllers for home use!
Great video! Thanks for all the valuable info. I’ve always been interested in becoming a Dj as music is life. I’m quite a quick learner, would you recommend a 2 channel setup to get started or go straight for a 4 channel like the T7 or Flx6 Gt?
Go for the T7!
I’m just starting out and picked up dj2go touch. Very easy to learn on. My next one if the flx4 to familiar myself with the eq
Yes! The FLX4 will be a great upgrade!
What DJ record pools would you reccomend for beginners as most are pretty expensive?
Crate Connect and BPM Supreme are really my favorites
Hey we pinpointed what it is it is definitely key lock I plugged my flx4 into my computer it sounds fine but when I plug it into my phone it's high pitched idk where to find key lock or the other stuff on mobile to change it
Oh man, I haven't tinkered around much with RB Mobile, but the key lock should be visible in the settings.
saving my gig $ for rane one (somehow managed to do two gigs today, i’m so tired) i got $300 for the first one, idk how much i’m getting paid for the second one yet, but i’ve made ~$100 in tips after counting cash and venmo
Don't burn yourself out too quickly!
@ agreed
unless there’s good money involved haha
I love pioneer controllers but it's not well made for serato. The DDJ-SX2 was, but I don't really know which one can truly replace it. I'm looking for a serato compatible hardware with performance pads.
You may wanna expand your horizons then! So many great controllers here for Serato. Though, if you're set on Pioneer, the FLX10 is the closest :)
Hey I'm having a issue with my flx 4 where every audio is high pitched and the bpm is normal idk what's wrong
Hmmmm, I'd say the DDJ 800
Any tips on where to actually buy controllers like the DDJ800 or the FLX10 because no matter where I look it’s always sold out.
Awesome videos btw :)
Try Amazon or Sweetwater! It really depends on your region :)
Whats your favorite?? I have a Traktor s2 mk3 now but looking to move up to a 4 channel, what do you recommend DJ Carlo?
If Traktor is your program, go for the S4
BPMSupreme and Crate Connect have their fair share of those!
I started djing on october 18th and i went straight for the RX3! Insane all in one controller and could not recommend it more!
Dang! Zero to 100 real quick right there hahaha. You'll definitely keep on loving it more and more each day!
i bought it and i liked a lot, it have everything the only thing missing is key shift but it really have all you need and a premium design
Condensed, I tried to focus on the positive aspects of each controller, rather than the positive and negative. Its a good controller still
Still worth getting the XDJ- XZ?
The minute I buy it, boom another version comes out lol.
I'd say, hold off first. Given that it's a few years older now, I'm also on that "there's gonna be a new one soon" train here 😅
I really love my hercules impulse 500 and I think it is a very good controller for 300 students of college . I think I can do a gig with it perfectly but what do you think , I need your suggestion because I don't have money for big gears and that's why I need your advice
You’re good buddy!
Hey DJ Carlo I was just wondering where is the best place to download tracks with stems
I'm actually not sure. I usually just have the programs do the stem analysis nowadays, but they have to be in 320kbps or a similarly high quality to get the best isolated elements
Based on what you mentioned about FLX6 GT, do you think it's better to buy a DDJ 800 in 2023?
I'd say yes, but if you can manage, go for the FLX10 already.
Actually, you don't need an amp for the FLX4! Plugging it into a set of speakers, via the RCA cables, will allow it to work :)
@@djcarlo
yes LOL yes I do.
I’m not playing for people in my living room.
I need “power”⚡️ actual gigs 🎵
The most important part is being able to hook your gear up to louder equipment .
Great overview! Especially since i gotta get a new one now.
There is no 4 channel motorized platter system though, is there?
Nope, not yet at least hehe
Gotcha! Such a pity. Someone, make it happen :P
Rane 4 is a plastic cheap builded with a metal plate beneath.
Pioneer FLX 10 is more premium builded
I have both
Ohhh, why do you say so though? I feel like the Rane Four performs amazingly still!
Rane will have an entry there I guarantee you
Thx Carlo for all the good videos. Do you have a review on the Roland DJ 505 ?
Unfortunately, no. I have got a copy of one!
If I want to use additional software & hardware like Ableton Live & SP 404 would it be best to use a controller or standalone?
I'd say a controller, or a pair of CDJs
I know they are old but you didn’t mention none of the Traktor Kontrol S2, 3 & 4
That's exactly why! Because they're old. Like 90% of the controllers on this video were released in 2023. Traktor only released the X1 mk3, and I don't even remember when the last actual controller was released
@@djcarlo I know, but in my opinion this is no reason to exclude traktor kontrol s3/4 mk3, they are still competitive in their ranges of price
RX3 for me is the perfect hybrid.
It's a wonderful standalone indeed!
Really surprised the numark nvii isn't mentioned here. It's one of the best 4 channel controllers under 1000 and has screens that allow to get used to not looking at your laptop
I actually get messages about that every year! 2 reasons really:
1) I believe it's been discontinued/archived already (and it's seriously due for an update!)
2) It's pretty old now. 90% of the controllers here were released this year, with the rest still being from this decade haha
@@djcarlo I can respect that!
@djcarlo I'm hoping to upgrade from my nvii to the SC live 4. It's the most affordable stand alone that I can realistically afford. 😅
Hi Claudio! I have, and I found it to be okay. Try adjusting the jogwheel tension to fit your liking. There may be a need to get used to it too 😄
@@djcarlo I have already tried to adjust the tension but unfortunately it's not that type of problem. thanks anyway for the answer, claudio
Great video. I think I will be getting the Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX4. Can you recommend me speakers?

@djcarlo Hi DJ Carlo Iam a hip hop producer who does alot of sampling. I do alot of beat matching as well. Also scratching. which would you prefer? I like to mainly work in standalone with my mpc 5000. Thanks!!!
A standalone controller may not be ideal for scratching, at least for me. But, for scratch work, go for the REV7 or Rane Performer
Hey, I only dj for my friends at home, what do you think ? Should i go for any basic inpulse200 mk2 or numark party mix. Is that enough? Please help.
I think both of those are okay for home mixing! Haven't really tried the Party Mix, so I can't say much about it
@@djcarlo thanks for the help!
I would go with the Hercules starlight controller to use with Djay. Use a usb hub and you get dedicated audio from the controller.
You can do that too with the DJControl Mix
DjCarlo can you tell me what you would choose between the rev7 and the flx10??
I have a rev 7 thinking sbout getting a flx10 but keeping my rev7 as well
It really depends! If you like scratching, then the REV7 is better. The FLX10 is better for open format mixing
I just killed my Denon prime Go. Very sad. I was going to buy a new one, but then I thought there might be a better option. I use Tidal. I still want a stand-alone, but are there better offers right now?

SC Live 2 or 4!

Absolutely! Much easier to use the jog wheels, and you get speakers!

@@djcarlo Oh yes yes. Are the old RXs still in production? Where can I buy one?
What's the BEST DJ Gear of the year?
No best. It depends on what the dj is looking for. This is the best time to buy a dj controller. The options we have is insane! Cheers man!
If I would pick the best DJ gear of this year or all time, A customizable DJ Controller would absolutely be my top favorite of all time (If It Exists That Is).
as someone who is just getting into Dj ing, should i start out with a "cheap" deck like the ddj-flx4, or safe up a bit and go for something like the flx 10 from the get go?
depends how dedicated you are and how much you want it!
Would you still recommend the ddj 200 just starting out?
Honestly, not really. I'd rather people start out with the Inpulse 300 or FLX4 nowadays.
Looking for my next purchase to upgrade from the DJControl Inpulse 200.
And im wondering... is the Hercules DJControl Inpulse 500 still worth it? Or has it become outdated? If not what should be my next DJ controller?
Thank youuu
The 500 is still definitely worth checking out Alex! Otherwise, any within the same price range here should suffice!
great breakdown and transition into your course (not being sarcastic!)
one thing I'd mention and presumably you are leaving it out on purpose: pioneer dominate because newer DJs who have aspirations to play in clubs opt to shift to pioneer (at least for mostly electronic). i made the switch from serato and denon and now i only use rekordboxs (but can play on denon gear with iffy beatgrids)
It really depends overall! I'd like to think that each program has its own set of strengths and weaknesses
I'd say yes! That's a pretty good price!
Looking forward to see what 2024 has to offer, i'm really hoping to see both REV-9 & XZ-2
Same here! Can't wait to see what the future brings for us!
Hercules 500 impulse and Flx4 DJ Controller which one is best to buy
Check out my reviews of each of them, and see which one hits the right spots for what you're looking for :)
Can you only use serrato with the Prime 4+ while using a laptop?
Yep!
I am not sure… Should I wait for an flx6 (gt) replacement in 2024 or go for buying it right now?
I actually would recommend going for another controller. I'm not too keen on the way the FX section was designed on it
@@djcarlo What kind?
Much better to use the RX3! No need to bring your own equipment if you don't need to; it'll make life a lot easier haha
@@djcarlo thanks for the reply! :) Which DJ pool do you recommend besides Crate Connect? Or is Crate Connect the one with the most music? :)
The FLX4 hasn’t been in stock for a while, at least not here in Canada. Is there a similar controller to it you could recommend, I was thinking of the Hercules impulse 500 but wanted to see what a pro thinks
The 500 is great! I'd rather wait for a mk2, but I've got no idea when that's coming haha
I'll still need to get my hands on the Tiesto one
@@djcarlo thank you are there any controllers that over Spotify as a music option ?
No, unfortunately. They stopped any support for DJing, and Spotify working is program dependent 😞
@djCarlo or anyone how the heck do you scratch from the sample banks???
If I want to learn on something and I want to learn at the same time”industry standard” like being able to walk into a club and play their equipment with just my music on me, what do you recommend? I like mixing house or minimal techno or tech house
Hmmmm, the FLX10, Rane Four, RX3, etc are the ones closer to the industry standards
as a beginner, should I get the dj pioneer 200 or 400?
Go for the FLX4!
hey Carlo, great video!
right now, im doing open format djing. i want to be able to use both Serato DJ Pro and Rekordbox so deciding between the Rev5 and FLX10. I hear that the Rev5 is geared more towards Serato where the FLX10 is for Rekordbox. i find mixing in serato and stems is better for hip hop with the Rev5. would i get the same quality with the FLX10 with serato?
You'll get the same stems on the REV10, as they're based on the software. The hardware just helps trigger them 🥳
@@djcarlo im guessing you mean the FLX10. so the quality of the FLX10 will be the same as the Rev5 with Serato?
Yup yup! They should give you the same stems output
@@djcarlo would DJing hip hop on serato with the FLX10 still sound good?
i'm a beginner, is better a ddj 800 or a xdj-rr?(or something else with 1k budget) (i have a macbook air m1 8gb 256) thanks!!
FLX10 man! But if you're willing to remap the Mixon 8 to accommodate stems, then that's a good choice too.
@@djcarlo thanks Carlo, 🙏
Thanks Carlo, very informative bro ❤
For sure! Which featured controller did you like the most?
@@djcarlo I have the 400 but they all serve a purpose definitely
Any specific recommendation for a controller under 500$ that will function best with Serato stems? Inpulse 500 maybe? Or possibly just hold out to grab the T7? I'm coming back into the DJ'ing world after 12 years...my last setup I had was a pair of CDJ800's hahah
Oh wow, the 800s were great though! And the Inpulse 500 is great. One of my higher-tier recommendations
The RX3 might be better! Newer tech, and I doubt you'll need 4 channels
I need to know what you mean by extended tempo faders on the mixstream pro. Those are the smallest tempo faders I've seen at that price point...
You know what....you have me there. I forgot what I was thinking at the time when I wrote the script, but there was some logic to it.
Hello DJ Carlo, where can I get old tracks? I cant seem to find in crate connect, most are 2023 tracks.
Been waiting . This was well worth what I was thinking!
Indeed! I mean, the video is about 3 months old now, but still, it's always nice to have this out with a quick retrospect of the year in gear!
I can t decide which one to buy ddj flx4 or traktor s2 mk3 ,what do you think guys ?
I'd recommend the FLX4. More updated 😆
That's the dream!! Luckily we can midi map our controllers!
