  • In this video, Mike and RJ drive out to Colorado from Georgia to upgrade the electronics on Mike's 3500 Ram. After being disappointed with the lack of communication between the TCM and the rest of the truck and the way the transmission shifted, Mike was ready to try anything to get his truck back. Mike and RJ were able to quickly install the ATS parts and remove the other company's harness. Give it a watch to see their reactions and how the install goes.

    Man I wish I had spent the money into an allison conversion instead of a built 68! Thanks Clint for making products to improve our vehicles in every way and not just straight line performance.

    Clint ​can you make a video of the truck pulling 15k pounds or even 8k pounds and let us know and see how it shifts and down shifts and how the exhaust brake works for you while towing etc. Thats whats really important here. Not driving to the super market but real world towing and if you saved on fuel compared to the original transmission setup, what MPG you get unloaded on highway as opposed to stock. And what MPG you get towing compared to stock. And how it shifts when. Pulling heavy. These are things we need to know before dropping g that much cash. Yes its an Allison 6 speed. Which are known for reliability. But how it performs mated to the cummins is what wereally need to know. And it seems so far you have produced the best most reliable seemless conversion wiring setup making the truck act as if it were stock with is great. But we need to see it performing . If you donate a transmission setup to someone including me preferably 😂 that actually pulls things daily they can make videos of how it is performing and its reliability etc. I have a 2020 ram 2500 megacab with factory rear air ride. And I make trips back and forth from Florida to upstate N.Y pulling . The truck does not move unless its pulling something as im a pirate hotshot. I'm sure if there were more real world data and performance information this would be an easy decision

    My 2011 68RFE transmission has overheated a few times at slow speeds and hardly do anything and so did my last truck. It’s probably just a matter of time before it fails. Who knows? I’m no mechanic but the ATS Allison conversion sounds like the way to go. Not cheap but it would be nice.

    Is there any chance that if I were to send ATS a built ZF 8HP95 (Pure Drivetrain Solutions builds them to withstand up to 1100 HP and 1300 lb-ft of torque), could you make a bell housing and some type of way to connect it to the wiring harness of a Ram with a Cummins? The ZF is shift by wire, so I am fully accepting of the fact that the truck would probably have to be converted to having a dial shifter like the 1500s and gas 2500s.

    I've had the 68RFE fail at 23k mi in my 2018 2500. Dealer rebuilt because Stellantis won't supply factory remans. This whole conversion seems like the way to go so I can re-establish faith. I just don't know about programming and tunes related to smog checks in CA.

      There is no non-stock PCM tuning involved for this. This kit works directly with factory tuning. Please give us a call and we can elaborate in further.

    I wish they offer this for 3rd gen 5.9 manual trucks. I'd love to have an Allison swap that's smooth and drivable.

    I may have found the issue with the abrupt shifts and the TCM.
    4:49 it may be due to his shirt! The TCM saw the shirt and lost all contact with reality! Started shifting as if it was in the 4th dimension!

    How different is the exhaust braking? I know the manual tune has a much more aggressive brake than the auto tune? I want to convert my g56 but don’t want any sacrifice with the exhaust brake

      In a 2016 Ram 6.7, all of the Banks air parts, no tuner and an ATS Allison stage 3, what a world of difference. The exhaust brake is beyond phenomenal. Most always towing about 12,500 lbs. In tow/haul, steep grades, there is no longer a need to select gearing or use any braking. This combo is a smooth, cool running work horse. ATS & Banks have really good products.

    I have a 2006 Ram cummins with 48RE. Being a disabled vet that I have issues with this damned thing. How much would it be to have your Allision Trans put in? God Bless Smitty

    In the title of your ad on TH-cam, it states smoothest test drive ever ATF swap Cummins to Allison. My question is what does Cummins have to do with the transmission? Did they build it? Are you replacing a Chrysler transmission or an asian and transmission from Japan or some transmission from Cummins? I thought only Cummins made the engine.

      Agreed. What trans was in this truck to start with. The aisin of the 6rfe or whatever it was.. we have a 14 3500 with the aisin and its only issue is its lazy after having the engine tuner installed. The aisin still wants to work like its stock because there is no ability to tune the tcm to work with the engine tune.

      2wheel drive around 13.5k 4wheel drive 14.5k-17k (depending on the stage you get 1-5) that’s considering you do the install add labor to it if you aren’t doing it yourself

    Never had any issues with my 68RFE's.. A smoother shift is NOT necessarily a good thing. Sure is nice having a smooth shifting truck, smoother means slower engagement of the bands and clutches which means more wear..

      In this case, Mike was so disappointed in the hard shifts he was experiencing from his CAC kit that he drove all the way across the country to change out the electronics for ATS's translator and complete harness. The reason why it was shifting hard before the ATS kit was the fact that no derate was being communicated between the PCM and TCM. Without the millisecond derate from the motor, the clutches take a ton more abuse and compromise the longevity of the transmission overall. In this case, it's the exact opposite of what you are claiming but in many cases a nice firm shift is good thing. Furthermore, the "smoothness" or time that it takes to apply the clutches/amount of derate, is tune-able in our open source TCM included with our kit via EFI Live.

      @@ATSDieselPerformance Thanks for the info.. I would honestly consider an Allison conversion but The price is way out there, That is $12-15k and then have to turn in my core (that only has 260 miles on it) My core is work about $4K so in essence my conversion would really cost up to $19k...

    Quit dickin’ around do the link up with Cummins and power stroke options from factory. Rams stocks would be back at peak.

    Bag on CAC. swap out CAC electronics to ATS electronics and "Holy crap" thats way better.
    Saw that coming

      The difference is there. If you look at our video of when the truck was originally swapped we were excited about it. But then let down a couple weeks later when the transmission self learning procedure never made the shifts smooth and comfortable. With the ATS stuff we shot all of this back in December 2021. Months later the truck is still driving smooth and is great for daily use! We will also be posting a review of the truck in the coming weeks as a “5 months later review” to show everyone how well the kit is still running.

      @@rickw1427 the badge is just a black Cummins badge and then Mike bought a “Duramax/Alison” badge and trimmed the duramax part off of it. Then placed it under the Cummins badge
