I hear story after story about what a nightmare it was to work for Jack Roush. I’m not sure why people were, and still are so dedicated to him. I think Mark Martin and his multiple crew chiefs would’ve had multiple championships if they drove for a different owner. Jack seemed to always create drama. I’ll never understand the loyalty and praise heaped on him.
I think Jack has an extraordinarily dry and no-nonsense demeanor that rubs a lot of people the wrong way. A lot of engineers seem to have that same kind of personality. That said, you also hear a story like Shawn Parker’s. When Shawn’s then-wife was about to have a heart transplant, Jack got up in the middle of the night to fly him from Pocono back to North Carolina.
@@TheSceneVaultwhat about paying Martin peanuts when smaller teams were making drivers multi-millionaires….or the joke everyone makes about Jacks driver development contracts where he signs a good driver for 10 years but puts them in a car for 3 races a year. I love what y’all do, no disrespect! I grew up thinking Jack was THE engine guy and then you find out Yates had him covered by 80 HP. The Mark Martin podcasts made me realize Jack was as good of a team leader and engine builder as he was a pilot. Thanks scene vault for the vids!
@@Ghettocowboy33 I think that podcast was the reason Jack didn't take a picture with Mark and the 1998 6 restore at the racetrack. Mark was, im sure honest, but had a lot to say about Jack that didn't exactly show him in the best light.
Looking at Ryan, knowing he passed away from Cancer, makes me wonder how long he battled before going public. Robin has suffered unimaginable tragedy with the loss of his son and 2 brothers, and Ryan getting so sick. I fidnt know this story till now, makes me Dislike and lose more respect for Roush. Ryan going to Yates and Robin going to Penske with 26 wins and then to NASCAR (wanna catch and " innovator" hire one of the best in the garage). Leaving Roush ended up being the best for both of them, as it was just about everybody
I respect what Jack has accomplished in racing, but I feel like any time I hear a Jack Roush story it seems like everyone is biting their tongues to impossible levels to minimize how much of a complete jerk Jack was. It’s incredible. The Jeff Gordon story, the stuff from basically every driver, countless crew members, Willy T Ribbs, you name it.
It's amazing that Brad certainly was aware of all that regrettable history, but signed on to guide the team back to being competitive stats, possibly part of the agreement specified that Jack be hands off.
There’s a reason why teams like Hendrick Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing are still unbelievably good while Roush and RCR struggled for many years after their dominance
There are probably a lot of reasons why some organizations struggle and others don’t. Roush and RCR lost their heart when they lost Mark and Dale, respectively, and haven’t been able to fully recover so far.
You hear all of these stories about how Jack Roush is, but you have drivers like Mark Martin, Matt Kenseth & Greg Biffle who were extremely loyal to Roush. Even Steve Hmiel stayed with Roush for years & years; Jimmy Fennig stayed with Roush for years. Robby Reiser stayed with Roush for years; now, he can't stand Roush and doesn't want anything to do with him.
You stay with whos paying you until a better opportunity comes around. Most mature and sane people don't quit unless they got a better job/situation they can go to right away
Jack was Jack and he was tough as nails. He also accomplished more so far in life than almost anyone. Brad Keslowski also came from nothing and is a hardnosed racer, probably the last owner/driver we will ever see. And I am a fan forever.
I don't think footage of this race exists ABC broadcasted this race, but it rained, when the race resumed Monday there was no broadcast of it. At Phoenix in 1990 is when began to unravel for the 6 team Earnhardt dominated the race (leading the last 262 laps), while running decently enough a late caution the 6-team pitted while running sixth restarted 10 and never gained a spot losing the points lead. The came the infamous Atlanta test all the cars, engines and tractor trailers Jack brought wasn't working, to really get in their heads Earnhardt and his team bolted on fresh tires and cut a lap faster than the track record and Dale and Richard went hunting after their test. Ultimately Jack went with a Yates car and engine and I'm pretty sure that didn't sit well with Robin and Steve as Mark Martin said about the 3 car "There stuff was right" , after all that plus the points penalty at Richmond and implosion was bound to happen.

I don’t know if the issue was so much that Jack be hands off as it was the organization looking to the future as Jack grows older.
Maybe Brad knew it was the opportunity of a lifetime and knows getting to the top isn't that easy.

I’ve noticed that a lot of engineers like Jack are very matter of fact with little, if any, emotion involved. Some can get past that, others can’t.
