When the GR Yaris was released in Australia they had an "introductory" price of $39,950 drive away (which includes all fees and taxes) for the first 1,000 units and they were all sold within a week. Then it was increased to $44,950 drive away for another 200. Now the Toyota Australian web site lists them at $53,927 for the GR and $59,177 for the Rallye, both drive away. It seems the market is accepting the pricing as there is hardly any stock available, so your situation suggests that it is a global demand.
Really enjoyed the discussion both of you had in this video. Toyota were recently testing the GR Yaris's 3 cylinder 1.6 engine for their Corolla Hatchback hydrogen-powered internal combustion engined racecar, intended for the 24hr race in Fuji Speedway. They admit that there's a lot of issues they need to solve (packaging of the tank), but this is one of Akio Toyoda's way of prolonging the internal combustion engine. He mentioned that if Japan goes too hasty in banning internal combustion engined cars, the current business model of the car industry will collapse, thus causing a lot of job losses. We really should give him credit where its due.
Agreed. Akio san has really changed my perception of Toyota - he was involved in the LFA development, and was an advocate of bringing fun-yet-affordable cars back on the company's priority list.
I doubt the upcoming GR 86 will get as much appreciation as the GR Yaris because it won't deliver quite the straight-line acceleration that the WRC homologation special offers, but I'm just as intrigued about that too. 184 ft/lbs torque available at a much earlier RPM than the outgoing GT86's 151 ft/lbs is enough to excite me, considering that the weight hasn't changed much.

High seats for B road cars is something I've long understood. I used to follow my friend in his S4 down B roads in my 997. The 997 was much quicker, but I couldn't take the chances he could because I didn't have the visibility. Always heard people moan about the seating position in Clio 182's and always thought it was almost perfect for fast road driving personally.
I liked the seat in the 306 as high as possible. You feel on top of the car and have good visibility. Easy to place the bonnet. Maybe because I have a motorcycle background.

My car, an MX-5, also came down from Arnold Clark Aberdeen, when they had stopped making them for COVID and you just couldn't get one. When I got mine it was scratched to bits! Glad the Yaris had a happier journey
Probably the only car on the market at the moment that would tempt me out of my Mini (which I absolutely adore)! The servicing schedule is a bit of an eye opener though, doing 12k miles a year I’d really clock up the costs to run it.
Excellent episode. Being a hot hatch enthusiast here in the USA can be a lonely pursuit, my daily being a Fiesta ST. This Yaris really ticks all my boxes, but I’m sure they’ll never see our shores, alas.
Great video - been waiting for this. Interesting at a 6'2/3" guy I find the seat height is liveable and I need to do the mirror mod. Also found it interesting what was said about the limits, coming from a range of "warm/spicy" but never the hottest model of car ownership to the GR, it feels like it's driving to different rulesets and currently the limitation is me as the driver. Look forward to future updates from you both.
Harry you’re going to have to add a ‘double’ thumbs up like button!! … Love the colour, that red makes the car. I wasn’t sold on the looks of the car in black or white but in the red with those wheels it transforms it into a special looking little car 🤩 I, like many others, think you are the best presenter out there, in that your videos are like chatting with a good knowledgeable friend about cars. Charlie has clearly inherited that ability which adds another perspective to this video 👍
Thanks Harry and son, Charlie?, for a terrific video. My son has just changed his Focus RS for a Caterham 7 which after 5 years had just done 289 miles! He’s changed that as he’s taken it for a service today having done just over a 1000 miles in three weeks using the B roads circuit that I use in my classic MG’s! He didn’t enjoy the Focus as it wasn’t a car you could get involved with whereas the Caterham he can and although it’s not, on paper, as fast it’s certainly far more fun.
As an owner (couple of weeks, only just done the recommended run-in!) I have to say I agree with every single point you’ve made! Not sure I want to file the rear view mirror mount mind!! I took it out in the pissing rain and the capabilities of this car are indescribable. Absolute weapon. Delighted I ordered it back in December!
Seat is intentionally high in the GR Yaris for visibility, something which is incredibly useful in the WRC. Can't see why anyone would want to lower it, unless they're >6'5"

I think I've seen three now - a red one like this, a white one and one in full rally graphics with numbers on the doors!
This was great seeing you with your son !!! I'm sure when he was job hunting, as soon as they found out Charlie was your son, they didn't need to see his CV :-)
Bought a Scottish origin car Click and Collect in Milton Keynes depot from AC and I'm in the south. Was sooooo easy.
loved it all through, dad son episode.🙋 Would surely love to see you both more often.
I miss my dad :( he loved cars and we always chose cars together
My car, an MX-5, also came down from Arnold Clark Aberdeen, when they had stopped making them for COVID and you just couldn't get one. When I got mine it was scratched to bits! Glad the Yaris had a happier journey
Probably the only car on the market at the moment that would tempt me out of my Mini (which I absolutely adore)! The servicing schedule is a bit of an eye opener though, doing 12k miles a year I’d really clock up the costs to run it.
I swapped my JCW for my GR and am very happy. My mate bought my JCW so I still get to see it too! 😀
Is it an f56 you have?
@@Muzzaa yep, born 2008, loved all 12 years of ownership and driving it 😍
I paid Toyota £850 for the first 6 services
Excellent episode. Being a hot hatch enthusiast here in the USA can be a lonely pursuit, my daily being a Fiesta ST. This Yaris really ticks all my boxes, but I’m sure they’ll never see our shores, alas.
19:22 Oh my! My dad would have gone MENTAL if I'd touched his steering wheel whilst he was driving. Harry is so easy-going.
7:48 Porsche 959 wheels. Thank you for entertaining and sharing.
Harry - bang on regarding driver seat height. There's nothing wrong with it.
I still think the GR Yaris is too capable for the road however.
there’s talk on pistonheads about lowering its capabilities through lower spec rubber. nice problem to have
@@robomeara9860 that's really interesting. Fun at sensible speeds - I like it.
Fantastic video Harry and great to see Charlie in a video too. You both compliment each other in the review of this little pocket rocket!
Cant wait for this one!
Just saw this video and great to see you have family members in your videos. 👍
Father's day special aye ❤️
What a fab review with total exposure and honesty and great father and son chat.
Nice to see a Yaris in red colour 🙂
Was gonna say the same thing. Almost every one is see is bloody white
@@jack14kd I spotted red one the other day at my local Tesco's I've seen a white and black one before but red is the best colour for it.
We are moving to spain early next year and i keep going back to this car. I've always liked small, fast cars. Hopefully i can get a test drive.
"I'd quite like a track day"..... "Oh, I'll give someone a ring......"
Love it! Great review and I am so happy that you and your son share the passion for special interest cars. Good call on the alloy wheels.
Seat is intentionally high in the GR Yaris for visibility, something which is incredibly useful in the WRC. Can't see why anyone would want to lower it, unless they're >6'5"
The seat is mounted lower in its rally spec.
@@mcspikesky Pretty sure it isn't. The passenger seat is, but the driver's seat in WRC cars are really high for visibility
People are obsessed by sitting mm above the road. It’s almost like they don’t actually want to see where they are going.
That was fun to watch. Your son looks like a good man.
The colour is great!
Would look great with Evo VI TME stripes especially with Tommi Makkinen's involvement in the project.
