    Good review. I had to pay $250 for mine too. But Jack Daniels is my favorite whiskey. Extremely rare in my area to find anything really sought after for MSRP.

    Yeah, it's on my top shelf. I paid $199 and do it again in a heart beat. Caught all those notes you were describing. K of K have not tried but hopefully will in bar someday. Cheers!

    Jack Daniel's is definitely doing interesting things and they are pushing the edges and boundaries of whiskey in really interesting ways. They are working hard to break the image they have of "They're just old no. 7" and it's working.

    • @DrumsAndDrams
      @DrumsAndDrams  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It really is working! If I had to pick a "distillery to watch" or something like that, I'd probably have to say JD.

    Nice review. I agree on a cap of $150. It doesn’t show very well in blinds with other bottles that are 120 or above in my opinion but that’s not necessarily a fair thing to do to this bottle. It’s fantastic on its own.

    • @DrumsAndDrams
      @DrumsAndDrams  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't blinded it, but even in side-by-sides it struggles because of proof. I agree that on its own, it shines!

    I am 100% down with this. That molasses note is so profound and piercing, it almost smells like tar... like creosote or something. The difference between King of Kentucky and JD 12 is that in King, that note punches you in the face. In JD12, the note is shifted more into the background a bit.
    I wonder what it is that creates that note. I have sensed it on two other bourbons: the Orphan Barrel Rhetoric 25, and surprisingly enough, Parker's Heritage Promise of Hope (which is weird). I don't know where the Rhetoric was sourced from, but the Parker's Heritage is 10 year old Heaven Hill.

      I believe the rhetorics were from the old bernheim distillery

    People that have an issue with the secondary market need to grow up. If you really want something and you’ll never find it on the shelf go for it if you feel ok with the price. I feel like the only ones who really act like its awful are the connected people that get everything they could ever want from store owners/managers.

    I traded a Stagg Jr Batch 14 for the JD12. Cracked mine last night and throughly enjoyed it! Sweet and fruity on the nose, and delicious oak on the palate. I get the typical Jack sulfur / charcoal on the finish. The proof is just right!

    • @DrumsAndDrams
      @DrumsAndDrams  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great trade for JD12, and great call on the sulfur/charcoal finish. Couldn't put my finger on it in the video, but I think those notes nail down what I was getting on the finish. The proof is great, just maybe not in side-by-sides with proofier bottles, haha. Cheers!

    I was able to pick up the JD 10 Year, but have not even seen a JD 12 Year, even on secondary. Would love to find one at a reasonable price or be able to trade for. 🥃

    • @DrumsAndDrams
      @DrumsAndDrams  ปีที่แล้ว

      I see the 12s floating around in some various groups, but the prices are a little scattered right now. I think I may have found one on the cheaper side unless they're truly that volatile, as I'm seeing them around $300 now.

    How would you say KOK and Coy Hill compare?

    • @DrumsAndDrams
      @DrumsAndDrams  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think there are some similarities in notes, but the biggest difference has to be the drinking experience and how the age affects them both. Coy Hill is bombastic, intense, very full-flavored, but lacks refinement. I love it for its fudge brownie and dark fruit notes, but it's not necessarily the most polished whiskey. On the other hand, King of Kentucky has that rich molasses note and the creamy vanilla quality that lets me know it's a highly aged whiskey. I'd call it more sophisticated overall, but still not a shy pour. They're both good for different moods, but overall I'd choose KoK 9 out of 10 times.

  • @NoahP.G

    How do you think Jack 12 compares to Coy Hill?

    • @LeatherDaddy97
      @LeatherDaddy97 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally id rather have the 12

    • @DrumsAndDrams
      @DrumsAndDrams  ปีที่แล้ว

      There are elements of Coy Hill present in here, as are qualities of JD10, KoK, and even some aged Barton. I would say that this is no substitute for Coy Hill, but there's something about the flavor concentration, molasses, and even a little fudge brownie in here that remind me of it.
