      I think PFF once dubbed this phenomenon the “Mccown Effect” where a QB plays at an elite level because they are so bad at feeling pressure that it becomes almost an advantage.
      Other good examples of this are Nick Foles in the playoffs and Ryan Fitzpatrick.

    Quick Synopsis:
    Strengths: Toughness, work ethic, athleticism, short and intermediate ball placement, at times really good ability to move through progressions.
    Weaknesses: Can't feel pressure, doesn't know when and where to go when pressure arrives, leading to a ton of turnovers and potential turnovers, struggles mightily to place balls correctly on deep throws, especially against zone coverage.
    Conclusion: Maybe a good QB.

    As a Giants fan, I agree with a lot of this assessment. He was a rookie last season, and sometimes I feel like he tried to make too many plays when they weren’t there.
    Also had a terrible coaching staff. I feel like you’ll see a vast improvement this season.
    He’s got a lot of talent, just has too work on his weaknesses.
    And he will.

    NGL the reason that Darnolds time to sack was so low was that his oline was literally the worst pass blocking line in the NFL, and the reason Dak time to sack was so high is that their oline is god-tier.

      If you go off deep ball accuracy and not completion percentage since all his WRs/TEs/RBs were hurt all year than yes, he easily had one of the best deep balls in the NFL last year. Pretty hard to be the 29th worst deep ball thrower when your accuracy was 3rd in the league my dude. Especially when you take into account his shit offensive line who was forcing him to get hit on most of those deep ball throws.

    • @BrettKollmann
      @BrettKollmann  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@stopidvideos The last third of the video addresses that exact point. Catchable pass percentage doesn't really matter when your completion percentage is so low because you can't throw with your receiver's leverage. • @stopidvideos
      @stopidvideos 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BrettKollmann How is having that a bad stat to have? I just think the media at large has gotten his deep ball accuracy wrong ever since the draft and while he didn't throw a lot of his WR's open, it's kinda hard when you're throwing to Cody Lattimore, Russell Shepard, Kaden Smith, Wayne Gallman, and Corey Coleman majority of the year (who aren't starters and who made the Giants WR core the dead last WR core in terms of separation ability, which is likely why he was so high in accuracy but not completion percentage, because you can't throw someone open when they can't create separation so the CB can't make a play). Plus, he ranked 9th in drops, and while a lot of the passes he threw weren't considered drops, he was #1 in tight window passes per game which is likely due to his WRs being shit in terms of separation ability and is likely why his deep ball ACCURACY was better than Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers, or Patrick Mahomes but not better completion percentage wise (meaning he threw the ball within a yard of the WR more often then they did). I just don't see how the correlation is negative when his WR's were dead last in separation, can you explain? If he had healthy/great skill position/OLine play who were consistently giving him separation, sure, I would agree, but when you are talking about a rookie who is playing with 2nd/3rd string guys, you gotta give him some slack and realize this dude is a better deep ball thrower than majority of the league until he proves otherwise imo. Especially since his Oline gives him no time and is making him get hit every time he tries to give the play some time to grow to allow him to go deep.

      A run first team will help that as well. That means Jones won’t average 38 attempts a start, he’ll average around 27-28, similar to Ryan Tannehill last year. That means less fumbles & more efficiency due to the strong run game setting up good field position to score.

      Most guys with fumbling issues in college keep them in the NFL. Jones had huge ball security issues at Duke and he continues to have them now. He'll probably continue to have them in the future. That doesn't mean he can't be a good QB, but it will be a problem for a long time I think.

      tim4pele All QB’s fumble. Wilson has 8+ fumbles his last 4 seasons, lead the league with 14 in 2017. Wentz has 9+ fumbles his last 4 seasons. The last 3 MVP’s fumbled atleast 7 times a piece. It’s about reducing the fumbles which can easily be by better pocket movement & less passing attempts per game due to the strong run game.

      I think Jones will have a similar season to last year’s Ryan Tannehill. Last year Jones averaged 38 attempts a start, Tannheill averaged attempted 27 attempts a start. We’re going back to a run first team with Saquon back at full strength, improved O’line, also Engram & Shepard back at full strength. With more play action unlike Shurmurs offense, Jones passer rating on play action was 110.9, 10th in the league. Also Jones averaging around 10 less attempts a game means less fumbles, and more efficiency due to the strong run game setting up good field position to score, in which he didn’t have in 2019, besides 1 game in which he threw 5 TD’s.

    @I-am-good-at-doing-stuff 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Overall pretty good video here. I think there are some places I question like the criticism on pocket awareness deep ball placement and reading. Aren’t those normal rookie problems? 1. He didn’t get to throw deep much at duke 2. His wrs struggled to really get separation 3. His OL was god awful and made it hard to throw deep 4. He had little to no run game often 5. He’s a rookie getting used to the game and it’s schemes is expected 6. Take away two truly horrendous games vs the pats on a short week and the packers and he has 6 ints in 10 games. 7. The do you think the placement could just be a learning thing? Learning where to put it? Learning where the wr wants it? Gaining chemistry? 8. He was given so many opportunities and he was forced to carry such a unfair and heavy load on a terrible team with lackluster help so can’t you kinda anticipate more mistakes? 9. He was great against man. Like top of the league. I think brushing over that in favor of his bad areas is a disservice to his true evaluation. 10. Remember he’s a rookie. I’m not sure it’s entirely fair to dub him Winston 2.0 when I don’t think they are at all that similar 11. Some of those throws are being made extremely off platform or in a bad situation don’t forget to say that 12. I think yes his decision making was bad and yes he tried to do too much but think about it. He was on a terrible team. No OL. Below average separation. He was drafted 6 overall to NY where he has to be great or he’ll get killed and he was forced to try and carry a completely unfair load and do everything to win games. Can’t you attribute some of that to those things? Like if he didn’t take as many risks as he did the giants would have been in a lot worse of a spot. Like I said I actually liked it a lot overall but in my opinion you glossed over the great things and didn’t truly do them justice and you were extremely critical. If you are going to do that for everyone that’s ok but I think to a extent you were kinda unfair to jones in that you made it seem like it was all him. I think overall coming off last year you have to say he can be a great QB and he can be the franchise guy but it’s too early to tell. When you say stuff like maybe or he’s not good it makes it seem like he must be bad and he’s really not. But like I said that was a great video and analysis. I’d like to see it be less pessimistic and id like to see you give more context and not jump to crazy comparisons like winston. You are obviously very smart though and that was a great breakdown. I’m just happy you didn’t just throw him away already and you explained how he’s also shown awesome ability and how the path to greatness is there.

      The best part of this account is that he doesnt just look at stats. He is looking for good throws just like how he is watching for bad throws. Doesnt matter who the reciever is if the qb isnt feeling the pressure and getting strip sacked by Jamal Adam's. I think it's a great comparison because of their riskiness but high potential. If it's a good throw, brett doesnt care if it's a catch or a drop. That's talent

    Not many rookie QBs have pocket presence. Takes time to get a feel for the NFL pocket to become a legend at it like Brady, Wilson, Rodgers or even Eli Manning.

    This was an amazing breakdown! I totally agree that Daniel Jones is a difficult QB to evaluate. His talent is undeniable - with his elite accuracy, and great arm strength. But it's also obvious that he has a lot of trouble having awareness in the pocket, and because of that has had issues with fumbling. I saw this Giants Outlook here, prosportsoutlook.com/outlooks/?league=nfl&team=2474, and it's clear that they don't have a roster ready to compete for the playoffs this year. Can't wait to see Jones play this season!

    I will say that Jones came in to learn under an established starter. Some QB's out of college need that. Some have the skills to start right away. He had that, just not an established or decent coaching staff. I think he was thrown in too soon with the way Manning was handled. Manning had Kurt Warner for about the same time now that I think of it. Needless to say, it's over now. We'll see through the next two seasons what he's made of by way of adjustments and growth.
    As a Giants fan. It's worth it.
