    As an English football fan, this reminds me a lot of the end of Arsene Wenger's reign at Arsenal - one person who controls everything but has massive blindspots and maybe hasn't adapted to the way the modern game operates. The man in charge is such an institutional figure that it seems wrong to fire them, and they've got too much pride to quit while they're not too far behind.

      But I guess the one key difference between Wenger's final days and Belichick's present situation is that Wenger was really hamstrung by lack of money available to him, as IIRC a lot of Arsenal's income was allocated to building a new stadium, so Wenger couldn't compete in the market for players that he liked. Meanwhile, Belichick has control over roster building, and it still hasn't worked out very well for him

      What I got from it is that Mac Jones doesn't trust Vederian Lowe at all. He threw the Jets ball off his back foot because he didn't want to take a hit from Lowe's rusher. When he saw Parsons get washed down by Lowe he scrambled to the vacated edge, even though there was no one open on that side.

Agree Mac is not the answer though. Bill is still good at X's and O's, but you are right he should not be the GM.
    The good news is rebuilds don't need to take 10 years like they did back in the 1990s. Some teams have really turned things around in 2-3 seasons. New England could do the same. But they need a LOT of change, and a LOT of work.

    You nailed it at the end. It is a confluence of problems making each other worse. However, literally the easiest fix is replacing Jones, because you can find a better (maybe not very good but better) quarterback-easily-than find multiple O-Linemen that can stay healthy or multiple receivers. But with the loss of their two best defensive players, the season is over with, so they might as well try something.

      Do you mean finding a better quarterback in the draft, or right now? Draft-wise, what quarterback *after the first round* is better than Jones? And if right now, who's better that they can get?
      Also, "not very good but better" moves you from 6-11 to 8-9, maybe. Which...does *what* for you, exactly?

    I find the narrative around the Patriots and the Seahawks to be really interesting. On one hand, Belichick seems to be really struggling after losing Brady, implying it was Brady that was the real driving force. On the other hand, Wilson seems to be struggling without Carrol, implying it was Pete who was in the right.
    Just goes to show that sometimes its the coach, sometimes its the QB. And in the case of Jones and Belichick, sometimes its both.

      I mean Brady was the offense for the Pats despite how 'low' the quality of talent on the offense got. 2019 was the lowest bar for him and I can see why Brady would want to leave to a more stacked roster. As for Wilson he's getting older, he's getting slower and he really pass at the middle of the field. Carroll knew his value but the Broncos thought he's worth 296 million for 7 years (along with a bunch of draft picks no less). To credit Caroll he had a great rebound with those picks to help replenish the talent drain but also had a veteran QB who makes sense with the stuff his modern play caller in Waldron (from McVay's group) could run.

    I am not convinced if you trade Purdy for Mac Jones the situation changes in big way for either organisation.
    and maybe Belichick needs to learn that a normal QB neeeds a bit more assets than the GOAT and he needs to build an elite defense with less capspace than he is used to.

    as a pats fan im so happy u made this. so many pats fans cannot understand that its kinda everyone's fault. i feel like week in week out pats twitter has to blame only ONE person, mac or bill or the WRs or the OL and its so frustrating bc its legit all, mac lost his confidence he had, he lost his weapons. he lost his Oline, and most importantly he lost a OC who put him in the best spots with players put in spots to help him. i think the game has started to pass bill and while ill forever love him as the best coach of all time he's clearly a D coach and nothing more. hopefully the rebuild isn't TOOOO long

    • @t4d0W
      @t4d0W 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      IMO the rebuild can be as long depending on how quick BB gets himself the franchise QB of the future. So far its been the case for other recent franchises who made dramatic and quick turn arounds. Bengals were absolutely bunglin' until they got Burrow and managed to get Higgins. Then Chase landed to them the year after. Jags def look different with an offense ran by Trevor Lawrence. Hell CJ Stroud is also giving the Texans offense a new look with headroom to be better. Hell its hard to catchup to the playoffs in the AFC East when they have Josh Alien and Tua and the Turbo Fins.

    As a Steelers fan, please tear us a new one, Matt Canada needed to be fired last year. There is no excuse for not only how bad our offense is, but no excuse for him to be mad when Kenny called his own play to win the game. Dude is actively upset that his plays aren’t working and that the only success the team has is when they disobey his orders.

    Great job breaking down the O-line play. I would love a deeper dive on the offensive coaching/play calling. I often feel like its a big part of the problem when teams sputter this hard. If the offense is poorly coached, and poorly drafted/managed, then change does need to start from the top down.
    I think Belichek is used to getting players cheap because they were willing to play for less on a Superbowl contender team. Now he’s just being stubborn and cheap and its hurting the team.

Awkward rollout, telegraphed duck to a bad 1-on-1 matchup with the corner waiting to just grab some takeout and go. Now, under Gus Bradley, this was actually *schemed*, but yeah. Not exactly a comparison that gives you a lot of hope for things turning around for Mac.

    Brett we really all want to know, WHAT and HOW did the Patriots ship sink this badly? Yes, We know Brady was the entire offense and basically the patriot way, but WHAT happened in the coaching and staffing department? How did that fail so badly. Was Bill's complete focus on how to continue to build a Dynasty made him forget to check up on the staff and keep that a well lubricated machine as it always has been? (minus not listening to his scouts of course for the many amazing players the pats could have gotten) but what happened Bill? This is on you.

    As a Patriots fan, I'm putting most of this blame towards Bill O'Brien. You'd expect this offense to be better than last year considering the success O'Brien had with Jones in college, but it is far from that. Mac Jones found so much success in college and in his rookie year when he is right next to the center running RPO's and play actions, and he's done none of that. Almost every pass play the Patriots run is either some shotgun variation or a screen pass. I know that the receiving talent isn't anything special, but even in the Tom Brady era we didn't have crazy weapons from top to bottom other than Randy Moss, Gronk and Edelman to some extent. I think it's time for this team to hit the reset button on this team rather than try to compete with this horrible offense.

    Their additions in the off-season made no sense. Juju is a clutch player known for making those tough third down conversions or making the big block. Zeke’s best days are behind him but you could see him stepping into a shared role and lend some experience to the younger backs. Davante Parker is a solid addition to any team but I wouldn’t really consider him a WR-1. These are something you’d want in an already dominant offense with Tom Brady. Not one where THEY’RE supposed to be the big major talents on the team.

    Mac is completely broken. He's seeing ghosts because its a coin flip as to whether or not he's going to get clobbered on any given dropback. Literally, he was being pressured at like a 50% rate. You're asking him to trust people he doesn't and shouldn't trust. A bad team and bad coaches made him a bad quarterback.

  • @pringlescan81
    @pringlescan81 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    You nailed it right on the head. This is 100% about trust. I don’t think Mac trusts his offensive line. I don’t think the offensive line trusts each other. I don’t think the WR room is confident enough in receiving a catchable ball. And ultimately the coaching staff and the players do not trust each other

    Unless we get the #1 pick, I feel like you really have to keep Jones for at least another year. Until OL and WR are addressed you'll be asking your QB to carry the team on his back and that's a LOT to expect from a rookie

    BB is a bargain hunter GM. Brady held the franchise together. They tried trading Gronk. Brady’s only elite target. Brady had been upset with BB for years for taking team friendly deals and Bill refusing to get elite players. He’s the greatest coach of all time. But his whiffs on offensive talent and stingy GM decisions have been downright criminal. The Pats need an actual GM and Belichick should only have input on the defensive side of the ball.

    Hey everyone, it's actually happening. In the year of our lord 2023, the Patriots are BAD. Not "stout Belichick defense somehow drags the withered remains of Cam Newton's throwing shoulder to 7 wins" bad, but so bad that I would've never guessed I'd see it while Belichick is still the coach. He had Patricia and Judge handle the offense last year (if I remember correctly) and that stunk, and somehow they hire BOB as the new OC and the offense gets WORSE??? Just what the heck. The seemingly sinful question now begins to pop up: is Belichicks time over? It's just wild. They got murdered by my Saints, and we're definitely not a juggernaut either lol. I think one of three things is gonna happen: either the Pats stay as bad as they are, where I'd say if that happens it'd be kind of forcing Krafts hand, and Bill's getting axed after the season. Or maybe they find some sort of Baseline where they aren't this horrible anymore, and Bill, voluntarily or involuntarily, loses his GM job and they do SOMETHING about that offense. Or maybe they just finish super lackluster and they give Bill an ultimatum in the way of "either you resign to save face or we're firing you". Yes Bill has done great things for this franchise and certainly there's more leeway than with most other coaches if not all, but Kraft is also an owner who was used to his team being a juggernaut for 20 years, and I highly doubt what they're showing now will be enough to save even Bill Belichicks job. Anyways, insane times we live in!
