    on the lockheed stuff:
    1. who else would buy fucking missiles and fighter jets than a government, so of course 90% of their profit comes from that.
    2. who else would build those weapons for a cheaper price? like if thats the market price then thats the market price...

Thermostats, alarm systems, controllers, encoders… would imagine most people with an etf own some Honeywell, you need a little more evidence to say that’s suspicious guy. I'm sorry but Destiny's "it's just 5k/50k etc." take about congress people owning stocks in those companies is just a none argument.
    It's an ethical problem no matter if it's 1 or 1 million dollars.

    Conflict of interest isn’t just about the amount it’s about appearances too. We should try to avoid even the appearance of a conflict with this sort of stuff. I also think congress gets swayed with more than just the stocks there’s campaign donations and the PAC system that’s not really accountable at all. Finally there’s jobs waiting for these people in the private sector. Are they being swayed with promises of jobs for family, friends, and themselves? Even if it’s just a promise for when they leave office?
    It’s fine to question whether we are over blowing the case for how “bought out” congress is, but the fact remains even 15 grand in stocks doubling or tripling is a nice pay day for someone with less than 2 mil in net worth (presumably a bunch of that isn’t liquid like homes in DC and in their state) and even if you think it’s not it doesn’t mean the Senator or house member doesn’t feel that way. We simply have no way of knowing if there’s a conflict or not when even the tiniest appearance of one exists. I think beyond reproach is not an unreasonable expectation for the top law makers in the country.
    If you thought your surgeon might profit from harvesting organs would you think “well they make so much money as a surgeon why would they risk it” or would you find a new surgeon just in case? Sometimes we can and should demand more.

    • @kevinjennings8272
      @kevinjennings8272 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes sir agreed Congress should not be allowed to hold stocks. If your serving your country you should be self sacrificing and accept your wage as is. None of them should be millionaires etc unless this occurred before office. It’s sickening. Love the comment

    Let me tell you something as someone who works in contracting for the Government. I will need some citations needed and I got zero for cases where Lockheed didn't compete for their contracts. For those of you who don't know jackshit about how these things go, I will tell you that the ones that went to jail or paid fines are the ones that broke the law. The major defense contractors do not do this as they have no need to. When Lockheed wins a bidding for a new weapon system, like say the F-35, the competition occurs during the first bid, because they are the only ones who own the rights to F-35s. After they beat out other contractors for designs, they will be the only ones who can supply new F-35s if say a war breaks out or the Government expands it. So it is fucking dumb to say that they didn't compete it during the war because things they already had competed and had monopolies on producing were suddenly sold more during the war. There is no way Lockheed could get away without doing competition for the initial award because other contractors, like Boeing, would fucking sue the Government for not giving them a fair chance, and they would win. What you are seeing is some internet "expert" trying to connect dots to make a case but really only has like 50% of the material he needed, so he conflated some other shit that looks bad if you don't understand anything about how contracting works and just get attached to the "Government spent big bucks on X, where is the competition." Don't believe me, just look at how he conflated 1k investments to making themselves rich by investing in Government contractors. He is very consistent throughout this video. He finds a few bad apples, then tries to find as many similar apples that aren't as rotten or look to be as rotten, then says look at how big this pile of rotten apples is. He did it with the minor investors in Congress 1k vs 150k and he did it with major defense contractors who have monopolies on items being the same as selling cheap ammo from China and underbidding everyone, which is winning the initial contracts and then being the sole provider getting follow on orders vs. breaking the law to win the lowest bid.

    Of all the "winners" of the war in Afghanistan, I think years from now, China will have been one of the ultimate winners too. They wasted no time in swooping in to "support" Aghanistan after the mess. That was a golden opportunity, and since they'd had their own eye on all the natural resources, just like all the others (not the least of which is lithium), they get to pretend to be their new best friend now - and will get plenty privileges out of that, for sure.

    Destiny there is also the cost of SCALING weapons. The first weapon will be EXTREMELY COSTLY. So will outfitting a nation not in war. 💀 So thus a jet cost 30 million...but if you go to war, you have the blueprints and design to take that to scale...those million dollar jets become the cost of a car. When you do millions of them. 💀 Same with all weapons. A peacetime force is ALWAYS more costly. But being prepared is worth more than all the money in the world. As the old wise saying .."it is better to have and not need, then need...and not have."

And relation of the nominal value of money to price of goods is another really important context. Without those 2 things it means nothing. So no mather how much money was printed you can deflate the the todays $ value for the value in the Afghan war and you can see what the actual price was. It is not 100% precise.
