Thanks for being here everyone. I say this at the end of the video but I wanna say it again here cuz I think it’s important: This list is just a drop on the bucket. The list of who got super rich off the war is longer than any of us can fathom. My hope with this video is that it will help us better understand how the system works and what incentives are at play in the US war economy. Thanks for watching and I’ll see you in the next vid ✌️

But isn't. It just gets slipped in and influences the reader. It gets especially spicy when there's a polarizing subject.
It's toxic, unnecessary, and should be removed unless clearly labeled as to what it is.

Unbiased?!?😆🤣😂. This video is INCREDIBLY biased. He goes to great effort to paint anyone providing a service to the government as an immoral huckster looking to oppress others for their own personal gain. Obviously its not cool when contractors defraud the government or randomly murder civilians for no apparent reason but thats not what this video focuses on. Instead he uses those isolated incidents to make it look like all free market capitalists are criminals that just havent been caught yet.

    • @julius43461
      @julius43461 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@Me-ui1zy Yup, that's the issue. Unbiased journalism is not possible IMO. The amount of information journalists acquire is insane. They can't possibly present it all to us, so they will have cut many things out, and in the process their bias will determine what is being cut and which kind of narrative will be built.
For example, if you were a journalist leaning to the left, and you decide to film a clash between republican and democrat protestors. It just so happens that you were able to film some democrats kicking a republican lying on the ground, even though a similar but even worse event occurred nearby, where a democrat was almost killed, but no one caught it on video.
Now what do you do? You have it on video how your side is doing something bad, but you failed to capture the other side, even though you know it happened. If you were to publish your video, you would be skewing the reality of people against your side, and adding a disclaimer that reads "They did something like this as well" isn't going to cut it.

These are difficult problems, and there isn't really any right choice. While there are bad practices, the issue is that there are no good solutions. We, as a democratic free market society, do not believe in nationalized industry. So we use private contractors instead. That means almost everything from roads to the military uses private contractors instead of government. The government asks military command what they need and they create a compitions for private company bids. Whoever can meet all the points asked for and also has the lowest price wins. Now the problem is the military needs something so hard to develop and so specific that only one company can meet requirements. The issue is that when the government asks for something, only one company bids. When only one company can meet government bid requirements it means they have a blank check. They can charge any amount because no other company is competing for the bid. So there is no good solution to this. Either we let government directly develop these things or we deal with private company prices. We know for a fact that government cannot run businesses, which is why we don't do it. We are stuck with private companies doing all our nation's government work because it is the best option. This guy talks like it is odd or unusual that people got rich from war. Our society is based on private industry not government industry. This means that people get rich from everything. It would be weird if people didn't get rich from war. War is extremely competitive and profitable so yes there is money to be made just like everything else. This guy is talking like it's so crazy that people made money from war. People make money and do the things he is talking about in every single industry. When breaking the rules means getting rich people will break rules it happens in every aspect of life. We do our best to combat this but making money is what is supposed to happen in our society. The private sector gets you rich in America and the government sector gets you rich in places like Russia or china.

I left the US Army in November 2000 and soon after 9/11 I started being offered employment for civilian contractor positions in Kuwait and then Afghanistan and Iraq. Some of the offers were approaching $200k with major tax benefits making it even more generous.
The two things that kept me from signing up were that I couldn't accept the fact service members were responsible for the safety of contractors while being paid 1/5 the pay and the civilian contract allowed for the ability to quit and be sent home at any time. I told the recruiter that I would expect that to result in a huge turnover. He said some quit as soon as they show up, but you still get paid for "trying."

It's all bad, but one of the most sickening parts was that when we convicted the Blackwater merceneries for MURDER during an active war - it showed that the US might actually be different than other countries at war at least sometimes. That the civilian victims in an enemy territory might be shown justice. It'd be like seeing the Russians who killed civilians on cam actually jailed for their crimes - and it sent a message too: "You're not untouchable, there actually may be consequences" which changes the whole game.
And then Trump, with the support of near half the US population of fucking shitwits - PARDONS THEM, COMPLETELY. Pardons them of indiscriminately shooting into a crowded area of the place we're claiming to 'keep peace' in.
      That sends too messages
One to the contracters: "You are above the law, there will be no consequences".
One to struggling nations we intervene in: "They're no different than all the other occupiers through all our shitty history"
I hate it when people don't get punished for financial crimes, as it's a given enough money means disproportionately small consequences
but it disgusts me when something like that happens and undermines crimes of violence as well. It makes me a lose another bit of hope
that any of this means something. That we actually are different in any way in the US.

They're literally getting filthy rich through backdoor deals with established companies like (Das***) and even knew that the war was gonna happen beforehand. Bought a villa in alps and is literally anticipating for the war to boil over to at least poland. It's disgusting that these people are literally profiting out of the death of thousands. There's also my suspicion that the US made a deal with NATO when they invited Ukraine to join. Idk about the other western countries but I'm positive that France's arms industry is experiencing exponential growth rn, and they all knew or even probably manipulated the start of this war. That's why the US pulled out of Iraq moments before Russia invaded Ukraine. These bastards knew a more profitable front was about to open.

All that being said, I love Johnny Harris and he is a great journalist but nobody is infallible. Traditional media tends to blow things out of proportion for clicks/views. Follow the money with everyone, even Harris sometimes.

The war-time journalists bringing us the real coverage did an amazing job, and I'm sure they're still there sending in their reports only to have some executive decide 'I want higher ratings' and bench their report for the rage-story of the day. The problem is corruption, it is not that "they were not paying attention due to war". The people responsible for giving out these contracts, especially to those companies that don't do anything and just pocket the money, are the real culprits. Let me give you an example. If I was the person responsible for giving out a $1B contract, and I assign it to a "friend", he gets the huge profitable contract and gives me 100 mill in cash without anyone knowing. This is exactly how it works, but it's untraceable, and it is a cancer in the US and basically every country.

But what this video confirms is that even without corruption (as in, without breaking any laws) there are people legally profiting obscene amounts of money. This is one of those cases where the lawmakers don't want to make laws and regulations to stop these, because it benefits them.
