I have only rode a challenger for two short test rides. I have over 61,000 miles on a Roadmaster. Love the power of the Challenger. However, I prefer the Chieftain. I need to rent a Challenger and crush some major miles before picking a firm winner. After owning 6 Harleys, I prefer Indian Motorcycles.
I have to agree with you, I've owned Harleys since 72 and I'm in the process of buying a indian haven't decided which one. Great video thank you for sharing yours
I bought a 2019 Chieftain Dark horse about a year ago. I road the street glide and road glide and the chieftain won me over hands down. All the bells and whistles you get over the Harley for the money, the suspension and ride was just way better. Chieftain is the best bike I have owned.
I had a 2015 Chieftain and rode it 105,000 miles and loved it. I then bought a 2021 Challenger and rode it 32,000 miles and like the man said in the video I just couldn't get comfortable on it despite buying new bars an a custom seat. Now the Challenger is a great bike but it's not the bike for me. I sold the Challenger 2 months ago and bought a 2024 Chieftain and have ridden it almost 6000 miles now. I am so, so glad to be back on a Chieftain and riding the Thunderstroke engine. I'll never have any bike but a Chieftain again.
Great to hear a fair dinkum honest review for a change. I bought myself a Chieftain darkhorse last year and absolutely love it. Haven't changed anything on it yet as I'm just enjoying riding it. I came from riding old school sports bikes and was so impressed by the handling of the Chieftain that it had me wondering why I didn't look at one sooner. I've just hit the subscribe button, too. Cheers from Aus
I owned a RGS for about 30k miles. I was always frustrated with the suspension even after several thousands of dollars on 3 different brands of aftermarket brands. Some were a bit better than stock, but nothing came close to the ride quality and comfort of the chieftain. I traded in my RGS for a chieftain limited and enjoying every mile.
I was torn between the Chieftain and Challenger. I loved them both. I know a lot of people love the Challenger, but something about the Chieftain felt better to me. I ended up purchasing a 2022 Chieftian Dark Horse and I'm not at all disappointed with my decision.
I’ve had two Roadmasters that I routinely rode set up as the Cheiftain is. I also have a Challenger and now a Pursuit. My take is the Challenger or Pursuit stock bars do suck. I changed them out for a set of KST Lakota bars, fixed that problem… Then, the stock Challenger seat was fixed with getting the Indian heated seat option for the Challenger but came stock on the Pursuit. Problem solved… As far as sound from the stock Challenger or Pursuit, remedy that with a good set of aftermarket exhaust (slip ons or full exhaust) and you’ll get the rumble you are used to. My first thought on the Challenger was that the sound of the bike had no soul. That was fixed with a set of Rush Warhorse slip ons. To me, the Challenger or Pursuit is a better option due to the larger tank, better brakes (Brembo) and the fixed fairing. The fully liquid cooled 108 also appeals to me. The 116 is a great looking engine and it is very good in its own right but that 108 is just a stronger engine. Much stronger. But hey, I’m glad you guys took the time to test ride the Indian bikes. It would be fun to see you guys ride a Challenger or Pursuit with some aftermarket goodies on it and then get your takes.
Thanks for the killer comment and suggestions! We defiantly think the Challenger would be killer with some aftermarket mods to it. We both just love an air cooled engine "rumble", coming from Harleys, more commonly Twin Cams Harley engines. We are looking forwarding to doing more test rides on some Indian's!
I got a 2016 chieftain. Love it. Comfortable powerful and smooth in the turns. As a bonus I bought the extended reach touring seat mini apes cause I’m 6’3 and the tour trunk. Quick detach in about 1 min for when my girls wanna cruise
I absolutely love my Roadmaster. Plenty of power, very planted, comfortable for days, overall it's just great. And I'm starting to notice a lot more Indians even though I live in a small Oregon town. It's not because you just notice what you own, but more likely because a lot more people are switching to Indian.
I have a 2019 bobber and want to upgrade too. Challenger just didn't feel right for me, so will test ride the chieftain tomorrow and if I like it, I'm buying it on the spot.
I thought the challenger was my dream bike and was ready to walk in and buy it out right. Then I took it for a ride... and I didn't love it... Felt bulky, the faring was so large, I felt like there was an open suitcase in front of me. Everything felt extra wide apart and I didn't find it that comfortable after a 30 min ride. I didn't buy it, but the sales guy told me to test the chieftain but I was hesitant. But after watching this, I think that's probably the bike for me! THanks for the video guys
Well might as well update here. I bought a '24 chieftain DH in black smoke. Getting the air intake, Rinehart slip ons and flared windshield put on. Will be ready to ride off on Thursday :)
Coming from someone who has put miles on both of these bikes. The right bike won. The Challenger is for those who want a quite smooth ride down the road. The Chieftain is a mean bitch that just wants to kill everything in its path! For me, I prefer raw feeling the Chieftain gives off. Good review.
Awesome video and i would like to see yall ride more indians. I know how yall feel about harleys been riding them since 1974 but i test rode the indians and when the day was over i bought my chieftin limited. Love this bike. Thank you indian.
Just made my transition to Indian from Harley...traded my '16 Ultra limited for 23 Pursuit. The seat did get some getting used to as you are right up on the tank...but it is still very comfortable....the handling and power if FAR superior to my ultra limited.....I think I will stick with Indian for a long time.
I have the 21 model and I have the book to come with it all diagrams if you need it I’ve been saving up since I was 16. I got the limited edition walked in with cash and walked out. I’m 62 now it took me 50 years, but I got it.
well done , a video from Professionals with real life experience!.....A comparison between a Road King and an Indian Springfield would be nice!....I am riding since 2016 a Springfield after no Harley worked for me, still love my bike and not a single problem ever!
Great video, nice info and comparison with info that's not found in a lot of other similar videos. Only thing I would like to suggest is to include audio of thoughts as your riding instead just a montages of your ride, then break it down later you know? Good stuff though
Great video guys. I’m a chieftain ride all the way. It seems to have a little more soul than the challenger. I’d love to see you ride more Indian motorcycles. I’m wondering what you would think of the two different versions of Springfield. Thanks for creating this. It was awesome to watch.
Have a 2020 Chieftain Darkhorse..Excellent bike. The rear shock is fox (standard)hence the plush ride.High flow heads, heavy duty clutch, IEDS all stock..How goods that, Great honest review fellahs.Ya got yaself a new subby.👍
I have the challenger limited with the Mid Rise Bars and an Extended Reach Indian seat and it makes a world of difference. I hope you get to experience it with the difference seat and bars that thumb would most definitely go up!
I got a Chief Dark Horse this year and I love the beast nature of it. Test rode a Chieftain this week and holy smokes...same power but felt so refined and smooth compared to the Chief. Might upgrade next year 😂
I'm surprised most people like the Challenger better. I've never had the chance to ride an Indian as there are no dealers in my area. If Indian had more dealers, I think they would sell more. Thanks nice video.
Test rode a challenger and a roadmaster limited. Liked the roadmaster better between the two. Im a Harley guy, i ride the road glide limited. Tried the pursuit but like the glide better. Just comes down to preference and availability.
Y'all need to ride MY Challenger. I'm a previous Chieftain owner so. My Challenger is running th Road Sofa seat and KST mini Aps, stage 1 with a Lloyd's tune. Night and Day. But you would definitely love it, no doubt.
Basically, the guy was uncomfortable on the challenger for 2 simply adjustable reasons. All he has to do is adjust the handlebar in forward position and change out the seat. He doesn't know it but he loves this bike.
Hey there great video! I have been Harley since 2004 and love my Harley's! I got the opportunity to ride the Indian line at a demo days. At first I was crazy about a Springfield, but since I have two Road Kings I wanted to get a full bagger to go really long rides I'm 70 and my old body wants comfort! I will keep a Road King because nothing rides like a King! Bui my mind was made up after several demo rides of Harleys and Indians.. I was getting an Indian Chieftain. But the other day I took a Challenger for a ride and then the Chieftain for a ride. Now I'm not sure which I really want. I thought maybe by watching this video I could maybe make a choice. But since I don't like my arms up in the air the stock bars on the Challenger are perfect, the seat was perfect on the Challenger as well.. Then when I took the Chieftain for a ride it was super fun, it was more of what I'm used to riding and the handling is great. So Ya now I'm not sure which one of the two I want. Maybe some more longer test rides. Great Video!! Thank you!!
I thought so too but changed my mind when I test-rode it. My Roadmaster is just so much more comfortable and the engine sounds so much better more manly and less high-pitched buzzy sounding like a Civic or Jap sports bike. Some younger guys like the sporty feel better but as an older guy, those days are past now i just want comfort and low-down torque and my Roadmaster has all of that in spades.
Great honest down to earth review loved it. Own a Pursuit myself which is about the same as the challenger (which i also had prior) and i love it. I also rode a friend's chieftain and yeh that also as you guys said liked it way it handled and felt. It felt so light and easy to maneuver. But also gotten so use to my challenger and now pursuit can't see myself riding anything else, this is after 35,000 miles on challenger and now 15,000 on Pursuit. Guess ill try borrowing the chieftain lil more .:)
I have a 2022 indian chieftan limited deep water metallic absolutely best motorcycle ever. But ride everything road glide street glide challenger you will 100% feel why for yourself.
Harley's are rough to ride, the suspension is rough on the body, it's not balanced.. but God knows when I ride mine... and I hear my pipes... I'm in heaven. I would not mind all the cool accessories of these bikes, but something about my street glide, you can't buy, you feel it down to your bones..... thx for video 👍
I've had many Road Glides and street glides for 20 years and I guess I just got used to people rolling their eyes, test rode an Indian loved it then bought a 2019 chieftain darkhorse, after a couple hours I had to get off of it (just in time for a fuel stop) just like all the Harleys I've had. 2022 I rented a challenger for a day and holy shit... I didn't hurt! I didn't want to get off! Sooo I ordered a 2023 challenger dark horse ICON and got it October 2022, done all kinds of mods to it, still waiting for the ECU to be hacked just like Harley guys are waiting for to get rid of that blasted 115 mph limiter. BUT best of all.. no more eye rolling from my friends and family I'm no longer a ROLLING CLICHÉ

Hard core Harley fan boys will not switch even if they ride one and know its better that's also what turned me off about Harley its like a cult thing or for people who desperately want to look cool or come off as a tough guy. Harley makes some nice looking machines the 2020 Deluxe in pearl white is probably the nicest looking stock bike i have ever seen. If i was rich i would have one of those too but i needed a bike the wife would be comfortable on as well as me.
Nice bike but one test ride on a Roadmaster was all it took. Indian until Harley makes a better bike which in my opinion has a long way to go to catch up to Indian, especially with ride comfort I have a disability my back is screwed and I could only take 30 minutes on a Roadglide but can ride at least 3 hours on my Roadmaster.

The Cheiftan’s paint and chrome job is sick. Looks fun to ride!
It's so sick in person!

Very good comparison!
Jay and silent Bob ride Indians! Loved it. I like the roadmaster. Be my next ride. I like what Indian is doing. 😎

Chieftain, love the ergos and really am a pushrod air cooled kinda guy.
It would have been good to see if the bars and seat could be upgraded to make the Challenger a good fit.

The challenger is just all around better. It has more storage and the fixed fairing helps with more stability and to me it just looks better.

I am waiting 4 the Indian Trike.😊😊😊
After two years of owning a Challenger I traded for a Chieftain. The Challenger didn’t fit me, found it unstable at low speed and top heavy.
Chieftain all the way, used to have a 2006 Street glide

Did the fairing on the challenger keep the wind off of your hands well?
Thats the only concern I have for cold weather riding.
The Challenger will keep the wind off your hands very well unless you get bars that put you hands above the fairing.
Did you notice any difference in engine heat between the two?
Nothing that we noticed directly, it was still colder out during this timeframe. Woulda noticed more during the summer. Id assume the liquid cooled challenger pry run a little cooler. But that's a guess
It was Victory before it became Indian!... just say'n...😏
You do know the "Indian" brand is older than the Harley Davidson right? Victory motorcycles are not Indian. Polaris bought the Indian name brand and American heritage.
Just curious... which bike has more vibration???
The chieftain for sure 🤘😎
@crooksmoto I have a challenger.....new ..and it has vibration in the seat. Did u notice this as well??
Anyone else thinking Jay and silent Bob? Haha jk Indians are sweet bikes.

@@nandanair1601 seating position, the dash layout, the wind deflection and the power. Totally different ride

They are not stock bars on the chieftain
Have a 23 Chieftain. This guy is full of it on the riding modes lol. Slight barely noticeable throttle response difference is all there is.
That’s a negative ghost rider. The gears on a Harley are way more clunky.
Why do utube presenters feel the need for weird music playing in the background? Annoying! Thank you
At 17:17 you state "This bike has..." thern you edit and go off subject....What did you edit out...What does "this bike have?".
They basically picked the inferior bike because they were basing their opinions on choosing the model that was similar to their Harley🤷🏽♂️
Chieftain > Street Glide > Challenger > Road Glide

so much music super loud and super annoying for people who are wearing headphones we want to hear the engines rumble not loud music noise
Thanks for the feedback, we'll keep that in mind for future videos
