I own this bike. Swapped out the seat, pipes, Headlight and Bars and solved most of the issues he mentions (cornering, comfort). Indian did a great job with the Scout. It's nice to see an HD boy admit when he's on a better bike. When I'd help with Indian demo days, everyone who rode a Scout for the first time would come back with a big grin, and say, "Holy shit is that bike fast". Lol
I took this bike for a test ride, the sales guy says take your time, go back to your house, have lunch...return it when ever. @@jafo4u508 yeh would probably advice against purchasing this bike as a beginner. Not sure where you from but don’t they limit the HP bike you can purchase if you a beginner? They do that here in Australia.
@@jafo4u508 I started on this bike a year ago, I looove it. If you're respectful of it, it's a great beginner bike. If you stay on the bottom of the half of the rpm range, it's very manageable. Once you're comfortable, it's fast as hell but you can go full throttle without lifting the front or losing traction. Imo it's as fast as possible without trying to kill you
Literally Polaris will sell and leave Harley in the dust with just the scout, chieftain, challenger, FTR and a partnership with zero electric motorcycles in the works? Time shall tell.
Let me start by saying I liked every indian I demoed and hated every yamaha, and im a sports rider first and foremost.. so thats where my bias with indian lays, theyre decently put together and the engines are definitely sweet. Especially the scout. But I seriously doubt that. No ones going to want to switch from a harely in a couple years time. Its not even American, first of all so anyone who buys a harely for that reason won't be switching anytime soon. (They all know its Canadian too.) Also, the scout is too much of a chicks bike for the average harely rider (speed isn't a factor in this) and the whole indian line is like a knock off harely with extra cream colored leather tassels and just frills and lameness everywhere. And to top this all off the big local used bike dealer round these parts is also an indian dealer, and I have a really good gage of whats going in and out of the place. At first they did get a lot of used harelys from trade ins after demo events and such a couple summers ago. But I've watched their used indian line up grow bigger and bigger, and their used harely line up shrink to where all that's ever left over is kind of undesirable and they have more used indians than harelys in just a couple years time, like by 2 or 3 fold at this point too.. people didn't like the Indians because even though the motors are better in a technical fashion. Theyre just so milquetoast
Polaris is the cheap plastic knock off version so it makes sense. They don't even sell Indians at most our Polaris dealerships in Canada, and their snowmobiles are a constant joke along with their side by sides. I'm not saying the Indian isn't fast, but that's about it.
2015 scout here. Only maintenance oil changes. Looks just as amazing as day one. These bikes are amazing. Especially considering it is a first year model. The only issue was a tune correction about 6 months into ownership.
Couldn't agree more, Indian Scout is just so insanely good!. Best motorcycle I've had. I've had many Harley-Davidsons, including the V-Rod Night rod and Muscle, I've had Hondas, Yamahas, Ducatis, but Indian Scout is just the best cruiser bike out there.
@@Bikerbug2020 it's just so weird where that bike fits between your Ducati Monster, XSR/FZ/Tracer, Kawasaki 900Z, Street triple, Triumph Thruxton, etc. etc. Nothing stands out except for the Brand, and none of the capabilities of the bike are the best in the marketplace unless you think the LCD dash is something to write home about. Just read that they are jumping into the adventure market too and sit here wondering 'why' when they don't have their standard figured out yet. I would totally go the 'scout route' like you mentioned and get more bois off of their Dynas.
Now I'm scared. You said, "this is not a beginner bike" Well, I am a new rider, short in stature and been through 5 different bikes in year trying to find the one that fits me the best. Well, guess what. My Scout 69 is the perfect bike for me. I can flat foot it, feel totally comfortable, and it has ABS. Yes, if you drive like a madman, I'm sure it can kill you. But, I ride within my level of experience and have no issues. Just my opinion, because I am no expert, but to say it is not a beginner bike is kind of subjective. Even a Honda Rebel can hurt you if you are stupid.
Ditto. I'm 5'6" and the Scout 60 was ideal choice for my first bike when I weighed all the things. I'm just not out there pinning it; I do no more than I am ready for as a beginner.
Stay safe, I'm on a 55hp bike and I know that there were many times when the "low power" saved me from an accident. Higher power bikes give you less margin of error. I had ninja 250 before this, learned on it while I was at college for about year, then took an eight year hiatus before I got back into riding with my Guzzi V7. I'm used to it now, but it still RIPS in second gear (60 ft lbs of torque) and can get you in trouble if you're heavy handed with the throttle.
You done good old son. Even if you’re a beginner you won’t out grow this bike any time too soon. That’s a mistake many newbies make buying a bike too small and wanting more power a year later.
My biggest complaint about owning my Scout is that 1: fuel capacity, even just a half gallon more would be a game changer. and 2: i cant freakin stop anywhere without someone walking up and talking to me about the bike. Those are by no means huge negatives, im absolutely head over heals for this bike.
I don't mind competion I'd even be swayed to buy something other than a harely , but nothing even comes close to the look of a HDavidson and I know there over price but the scout looks cheap and Indian lineage is barely noticeable might ride well but so does a, $5000 used gixr
@@solmarg3796 My thoughts exactly. I looked at the Indian scout at the dealership, and the plastic fenders and stuff turned me off, along with the silly "drive by wire" throttle setup. Yes, newer Harleys have that too, but it's set up differently and feels solid, doesn't feel like a toy throttle. Also the fit and finish of a Harley is unmatched. This guy is right about the engine in the scout though, it's really nice and runs great. But so are the engines in a Honda or Yamaha. Harley has just only implemented in their flat track bikes, Harley is not going anywhere and is in track to outsell and dominate Indian by the release of the new bike.
Honestly, the only thing driving-wise that hurts is the lean angle. But changing the rear shocks (which is a priority after the seat) can raise it a bit and increase the angle.

Exactly what I said in the last video.. Puttering around town at 35 mph doesn't give you anywhere near the full scope of the Scout line. Get out of town on a quiet road and crack that thing open past 5 or 6k rpms and you'll realize how monumental this engine is. I will let my friend an engineer from there engine development department that went on an on about this engine know about your review. They actually had this on the shelf for several years and just pulled the trigger on it. It is not just a beast but it is beautiful. And internally has some very interesting workings for robust and long wearing parts. He said they are heritage bike that you hand down to your kids. This engine was 3 years in development and 2 years in refining. That exhaust system had went through something like sixteen design changes. taking into effect engine harmonics road vibration thermal expansion from hot gases and turbulent flow control like a jet combustion chamber, all while balancing torque curves. The transmission that's connected to that engine all kinds of heated design discussions went on between the engineers over that deal. This bike was started from the engine and was designed all the way to the tires. they called that bike the "Sweet spot" they were trying to hit all the things that would make advanced/ beginners, cruisers, crotch rocket, all enjoy the ride this while making it a very dependable and fuel economical. people don't get lost in the not's, it's not the fastest, it's not the torquest, it's not the most fuel economical, it is not the most long-lasting motorcycle, it's also not the cheapest motorcycle, it's not the most expensive motorcycle. But is it fun to ride oh you bet'ch 😄. It is The Sweet spot.
I rode the FTR1200 at the 2019 Sturgis MC Rally. If you think the Scout engine has cojones, the FTR is in another league. Entering the on ramp to the I-90 East returning to Sturgis on a test ride, I gunned it till it read 103 in 3rd gear before I backed off looking for cops. I have ridden the Scout on numerous occasions and you're correct, the engine is the message. I didn't care for the forward foot controls, the seat, but most importantly, the rear shocks. They look like something from a 1970's street bike. They might have 3 inches of travel so the ride is harsh. A standard style Scout would be a terrific ride.
Not a beginner bike my ass. I literally never rode anything on two wheels with a motor and i got a 2021 scout bobber and it is very easy to live with you just have to respect the machine. Ive had mine since back in july and i have over 5k miles on mine

I disagree that this is not a beginner bike. It can be for the right person. I'm 6' and comfortably over 200lbs. It was my first ever bike. The torque curve is very gentle below 4000 making it very docile when you want it to be. And then a beast when you want it to be as well. Love this bike as my first bike.
When I had my stock m109r I ran a guy with an intake, pipe and tune scout. We were basically dead even till 100 when I would pull him. That’s the only cruiser I ever raced that was even competitive with the 9. Scouts are super impressive bikes.

The 60 is better than the bobber, it's cheaper , use extra money for, intake, exhaust and tune, then you can go further and do bbkit and andrews 420 cam, lithium battery and if you really got $$$$ rotobox boost CF rims.
I demo'd the FTR and scout last year with my eye on the FTR but i was super impressed with the scout. Never owned a Harley but rented plenty of them and did not expect the sport bike acceleration. I now plan on a scout and either an MT09, Z900 or Duke 890.
No... I have an XR1200. It has almost 20 more HP than a regular XL Sportster from the factory. In the the Harley world that is a shiltload and it can handle and break.
Good presentation. But hey, that's the Bobber, not the regular Scout. So a few points on that. E Bobber is lowered compared to the full Scout, and so it has less lean angle. The rear suspension has less travel compared to the Scout. Of course the Scout is smallish. Smaller and a bit less expensive than the full sized Indian baggers. That's what the Scout was in the beginning, and they're making a modern version. I test rode a full Scout this summer, and in the canyon twisties of North Idaho along the Snake River. It did very well, frankly. And you're right; that engine is pretty cool. My regular cruiser is a Vulcan 1600, and my main complaints about it are 1. It doesn't have quite as much pep as I'd like for overtaking at highway speeds uphill, and 2. It doesn't have quite enough lean angle. The full Scout was better on both points, but it didn't thrill the pants off of me, so to speak. That Bobber is going scrape peg as much, or more, than my Vulcan scrapes board, I bet. And it's odd. Whenever I look up the Scout on line, it's almost all Bobbers. Here a Bobber, there a Bobber, everywhere a Bobber Bobber. I don't get the apparent attraction. The full Scout is going to be a better bike. The Bobber's performance is slightly hobbled for the sake of looks alone. And that's extra odd because I like the looks of the full Scout better, especially with two-tone paint.
It was mine as well.. Keep it below 5k until you are comfortable with it and you'll be fine. It really is well behaved at the lower rpms, but shit starts to get real really quickly when you pass 7k 😳
It just pulls so hard from 5-8500k, and the factory seat on the Bobber isnt very supportive, so you are hauling ass in the blink of an eye and simultaneously feel like you are going to fly off the back of the thing. It's exciting, to put it mildly. Also, you are well above the speed limit by that point in just about any gear.
At 26 im going to get my license early next month, and leaning towards a 2025 scout bobber limited. I'm so excited to finally be in a motorcycle and be able to go ride with my grandfather its been a dream of mine since the first time he took me for a ride when i was little
Super weird that you said it takes like 5+ seconds to go from 60-80mph on a Harley... my Road King Special does 0-60mph in under 5 seconds. I’d say it takes about 1 second tops to go 60-80 and another second or so to fly past a hundo. Now try riding a current year Fat Bob, or Low Rider S, or Road King Special, or Indian Challenger. Ya know... a REAL bike. 😎👍🏽
Yeah, it's so weird how he talks about Harley's like every Harley is a sportster. Like have you ever ridden a Softail or dyna? Even leaving baggers out of the equation when I've seen some baggers faster than this thing.
@@H31MU7 the Dyna was kinda overrated. They seriously need to ride one of the current Softails, but preferably one of the ones that’s SUPPOSED to be fast and agile. Even a friggin Softail standard would be a better Harley to unfairly use as a representative of the brand. But a sporty? Seriously?? 😂
Love my scout bobber. Looks freaking awesome and performs. Chopped forks make it look small and like a beginner bike, but it is no beginner bike. Really torque-y and fast for a cruiser.
good vid man. power to weight ratio is very good on that bike. i have a VZ 800 MARAUDER .stock , it was full of potential but not reached. i fixed all those since .( i bought it new in 97) it has a better final drive ratio and a 40 mm belt drive now. has stage two and is as powerful as this size frame needs. it it a quik , nimble , pretty and super reliable. power to weight helped this work. 435 lbs vs 63 hp. i LOVE IT the way you talk about the Indian. best part is ..... NO PAYMENTS ! RESURRECTING OLD RICE IS NOW MY NEW HOBBY.
My partner has that same bike. And you're right, when you give the throttle a twist, you need to hold on, else it will take off from underneath you. It's a great bike.
You might not believe what I'm about to tell you, but Indian Motorcycle has actually reached out to several Upper Midwestern Tribal Nations . And they are 100% on board with using the Indian moniker. Mostly because they recognize that this is a high-quality American-built vehicle (designed & engineered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, engines built in Osceola, Wisconsin, components hand-painted in Spearfish, South Dakota and finally assembled in Spirit Lake, Iowa.)
@@tescherman3048 Just the fact they did that on their own, as opposed to being forced to do that, is notable. I lterally did not buy an Indian Motorcycle hoodie because of how it may be percieved.. (its a nice hoodie with ''Indian Motorcycles'' emblazoned on the front , back, and both sleeves)
Of course there's a similarity with the Vrod. The vrod's engine is oversquare like the Scout. One of the only, if not THE ONLY Harley that has that. Combined with liquid cooling, you get a small nerf to torque but a huge boost to RPM!! Thanks for review, I really enjoyed it
I think the biggest issue with the whole Vrod thing was that they tried to make it look like " Hey lool we tried something new !" And completely changed the look of harley. The V rod is so visually different. I think a better strategy would have been to make something like a special version of an existing bike, lets say the Low Rider S and put a new, moder engine in it. Imagine a lowrider S with a dam V rod engine!
Hahaha this is brilliant 😂 harleys are just purely outclassed by almost all of it’s competitors...I would suggest giving the bobber black from triumph a go. I would think it’ll give the indian a run for it’s money
Harleys are tractor engines needed for their weight. They live in the 2000-4000 rpm range. Torque x rpm = horsepower. Harley runs out of steam above 4000. Big Bore pistons are heavy. More smaller cylinders equal more horsepower. That is why Ferrari and Lambo love V12’s. Smaller displacement motored with multiple cylinders.

Indian did a great job with the Scout. It's nice to see an HD boy admit when he's on a better bike. When I'd help with Indian demo days, everyone who rode a Scout for the first time would come back with a big grin, and say, "Holy shit is that bike fast". Lol
That’s me, selling my air cool bike soon and get one.
I took this bike for a test ride, the sales guy says take your time, go back to your house, have lunch...return it when ever. Literally Polaris will sell and leave Harley in the dust with just the scout, chieftain, challenger, FTR and a partnership with zero electric motorcycles in the works? Time shall tell.
Doubtful.. Indian has been bought more times in the last 50 years than the sportster has changed motors
@@kyleryneost Indian is now a division of Polaris, which has been going strong since 1954. They know what they're doing.
Not sure what you mean by partnership with zero electric bikes
2015 scout here. Only maintenance oil changes. Looks just as amazing as day one. These bikes are amazing. Especially considering it is a first year model. The only issue was a tune correction about 6 months into ownership.
Couldn't agree more, Indian Scout is just so insanely good!. Best motorcycle I've had. I've had many Harley-Davidsons, including the V-Rod Night rod and Muscle, I've had Hondas, Yamahas, Ducatis, but Indian Scout is just the best cruiser bike out there.
I really dig Indian's cruiser line. If they could just find a niche for the FTR they would really be in business.
FTR needs a bigger fuel tank and be priced at the 13,900 for the top level bike.
You’re right. I have the scout as my first bike. I believe it’s a great beginner bike. Respect the bike and know your riding limitations.
Like ur last words.. Soo right!

I was floored at how good this bike is. Even in the canyons it does very well for a cruiser.
Honestly, the only thing driving-wise that hurts is the lean angle. But changing the rear shocks (which is a priority after the seat) can raise it a bit and increase the angle.

Here I am, just asking myself if I imagined the "Indian Is WORSE Than Harley! Here's Why..." video or not...
Exactly what I said in the last video.. Puttering around town at 35 mph doesn't give you anywhere near the full scope of the Scout line. Get out of town on a quiet road and crack that thing open past 5 or 6k rpms and you'll realize how monumental this engine is. (Its like the VTEC kicking in from fast and furious for you youngins out there). As for the sound, throw a combat shorty or a set of rineharts and you can wake the dead with the best of the harley bois out there. I'm glad to see you come over to the dark side, Spike.
Yeag i got my bobber with a combat 2to1 and a SnS filter its making 97 to the wheels for less than $1400 thats a steal in performance. I love my bobber i started riding in july i ordered it frim the dealer with the solo seat its so beautiful

Its a great exhaust you just NEED a tuner its simple and cheap... For a performance mod that is... Its loud but they wont have a problem once you leave cause the bike is ready to go as soon as you start it unlike a air cooled engine. Idk about the neighbors I live on 5 acres so nobody cares thankfully
@@robertdrawdy3749 Modern air cooled engines are ready to go to. The whole warm up thing only applies to carbureted engines. Carburetors need to warm up to run right, fuel injectors don't give a damn.
Thanks, this was an interesting read! I've been wanting to learn more about the development/history behind this engine.

No... I have an XR1200. It has almost 20 more HP than a regular XL Sportster from the factory. In the the Harley world that is a shiltload and it can handle and break.
You can buy two Indian bobber 60s for the price of a new Harley Sportster s just about
Good presentation.
The lean angle can be fixed changing the rear shocks. How much does that cost? How much would cost to bob the regular Scout?
THAT is a beautiful bike. I know you said it’s not a starter bike, but...it’ll be my starter bike. 🤣
It was mine as well.. Keep it below 5k until you are comfortable with it and you'll be fine. It really is well behaved at the lower rpms, but shit starts to get real really quickly when you pass 7k 😳
@@stuckinpodunk Thanks!!! Curious what happened at 7k?
It just pulls so hard from 5-8500k, and the factory seat on the Bobber isnt very supportive, so you are hauling ass in the blink of an eye and simultaneously feel like you are going to fly off the back of the thing. I bought one 3 weeks ago, an its sooooo good.
Same! Two weeks for me. And it's my first one
Harley have returned fire with their new 1250 Sportster......things are getting very interesting.
I suggest trying out the 'regular' scout. Better tires, suspension, seat, different handling.
Of course there's a similarity with the Vrod. The vrod's engine is oversquare like the Scout. One of the only, if not THE ONLY Harley that has that. Combined with liquid cooling, you get a small nerf to torque but a huge boost to RPM!! Thanks for review, I really enjoyed it
Can me yammie do a “so you wanna be a track boy” pls because I do and I want to know how to prep for a track day
I think the biggest issue with the whole Vrod thing was that they tried to make it look like " Hey lool we tried something new !" And completely changed the look of harley. The V rod is so visually different. I think a better strategy would have been to make something like a special version of an existing bike, lets say the Low Rider S and put a new, moder engine in it. Imagine a lowrider S with a dam V rod engine!
@@Proj8ct How about an all electric Low Rider S?
@@MrPAULONEAL now that would be killer !
Great vid.. ride a zuki M109r!!! Crazy fast!!!!
