    I've mained healer/support characters for my entire time playing MMOs. I've been trying to research the differences in playstyle between bard and paladin without much success so far. This is the by far best resource I've seen yet that clearly explains the differences between the two support classes in this game. After watching this video, I think i've finally settled on maining a Bard. Thanks for helping.

      @@Aiyulol Thanks! I mained a disc priest on several vanilla wow private servers and classic, and bard seems like the most similar class. Lots of tools, but it takes some experience, skill, and knowledge of the fights to use them most effectively.

      @@Aiyulol you have made a mistake - paladins Godsent Law HP shield affects anyone in range of AoE. Not only paladin himself. Atleast thats how it works now on Russia server.

    • @impaladba
      @impaladba 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In short:
      Paladin is active melee playmaker class that can heal, protect, counterattack and have options for anything. It feels fast and mobile. You play it if you want everything in one character and playstyle.
      Bard is class that you play if you want to be an inpenetrable wall for damage that comes to your party and do not care or even do not want to do dps things at all.

    • @rail7646
      @rail7646 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree one of the best videos to get the differences by side by side comparisons, take in mind that the paladin has close to no healing at all while leveling up to 50 due to the fact that all the healing comes from engravings what are only available at the start of end game.

    I love this presentation. It's so professional. I used your skill build guide for leveling and have the raid guide spreadsheet saved. Will be curious how artist turns out. I love the paintbrush/animation/sound aspect of it. I think the portal is a gimmick and would make players rely on me to move them instead of self awareness, when supports are already doing so much.

    • @Aiyulol
      @Aiyulol  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Much appreciated! Portal right now is unfortunately really not that useful as a repositioning skill, so I'm thinking it may see some more reworking in the future. It has a delay on cast which prevents it from using it in emergencies, and the reliance on the player actually hitting G is another limiting factor. A bit of a wait and see situation!

    As some one who play both classes and who loves both classes, this is an amazing video. I will like to add just one thing from my experience and point of view: Bard is the best class if your party is learning the fight, while Paladin has the upper hand when your party already know the fight.

    • @frking100
      @frking100 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@fankey8996 I like paladin better. I find it that paladin is better at buffing damage and with randos that is very important as you might have subpar allies. The 8% heal comes in huge allowing even the most brain dead people to stay in the fight for longer and if you know what you are doing you can shield a lot of damage with it too. Your holy aura is a mix of heal(with engraving), damage reduction, damage buff so unless you have a bard that is very good at getting gauge i consider the paladin to have the superior gauge skill. It wasn't mentioned in this video but a paladin provides a ton of stagger (stunning bosses) and in tier 3 you become one of the best stagger characters with some descent counter potential.

    After hearing your analysis of each class, I think that for more of a casual player of this game, such as myself, Paladin is most likely a better choice, since the class can take more punishment and keep itself alive more easily. After all, being better at healing others won't do anybody much good if you're dead.

    I started out playing bard, then switched to paladin around level 20 when an old gaming friend wanted to join our guild and would only play bard. The rest of our small guild preferred having one of each support instead of two of the same, which is why I swapped. This friend always plays healers, unfortunately she's also pretty awful at it, going way back to vanilla WoW when we were both healers in raids. I'm now leveling a bard in addition to my paladin because I'd like to understand it better. Judging the class purely because my friend's bard is ... well let's just say she doesn't make the class look very good, wouldn't be fair to the class.
    And who knows? Maybe I can give her tips the next time we play together if I have more experience with bards. As things currently stand, I just assume there won't be any support if I play a DPS alt with her, and that her group will struggle more in 8 mans. My guild thinks bards are trash because of that. It's kind of sad.

    As a support or healer main in many mmos (dcuo,ff14,neverwinter,ect.) You are spot on. Sometimes you have to move into melee range to catch a person that is in a bad spot and you might get hit while casting your healing and just live through it. On another note DON'T build for damage if you plan on healing for parties unless you over scale the content I've seen many supports building crit and the team struggle to pull out the raid don't be that guy.

    You need to adjust your healing percentages to account for the noticeably higher base HP of a Paladin.
    The initial value of a heal is based off the CASTER'S max HP, so a 10% heal from a Paladin is quite a bit more than 10% from a Bard.

    This was the type of breakdown, comparison I was looking for. I live for details like this.
    PLEASE do one that compares the Artist. I know she's new, not even a month since she's been released, but I adore her class and would play it regardless if she was terrible if available on release (but of course isn't....). Yes, part of the video would be a rehash of this one, but it's really hard to find Artist content that goes into detail..... A couple other streamers have mentioned thoughts on them, but no direct comparisons like you did in this video.
    Artist by Saintone (just his thoughts from a recent stream)
    - Bit of Sorceress/Bard/Summoner in one.
    - Doesn't do anything they do better than them, but very versatile.
    - She is Slow and Squishy.
    - Only thing she is best at is her Heals, nothing heals as well as her.
    Artist by Kanima (he only made a quick mention on them in a recent stream)
    - He doesn't seem to like Artist at all. Saying that it doesn't do anything well and thinks it's to annoying to pick up heals and that the heals are not good at all.
    I forget who mentioned it, but I remember reading that the Artist does what the Paladin wished it could, being a more hybrid class, able to do damage while supporting (instead Paladin, like Bard, really should be used as pure support and for those that like DPS Paladin, sadly will, at least on KR/RU servers, only ever be seen as trolls when PUG-ing it up).

      I have been playing my artist (1445) so far, and like I mentioned I plan to make a video exclusively about her later. I left it out of this one because she's still undergoing balance changes (had a big one last week), so I was waiting until the dust settles before making a video which can't be updated.

    Godsent law does in fact have the same paralysis immunity super armour that Rhapsody of Light has and also has the ability to inflict Lights’s vestige debuff giving 10% damage increase for all party members

    • @Aiyulol
      @Aiyulol  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's not the same super armor as Rhapsody, Rhapsody is knockdown/knockup immunity (LV 2 Super Armor) while Godsent Law is hitstun immunity (LV 1). I did make a mistake about the shielding differences which I corrected in the description. You also don't get the vestige debuff if you use the 30% AoE tripod, which most people do.

    • @genericnameinc
      @genericnameinc 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Aiyulol godsent law gives a shield though, while you said it doesn't? Or do people really not use that tripod? I find it to be amazing, those shields are quick to apply and together with the DMG reduction can (in low tier content so far) super easily safe someone or let you just Facetank a boss ability.

    • @dainenbazzani

    Thank you SO so much. I could see the bits and pieces of differences and they seemed so even to me, but having it properly side by side is all I wanted! I honestly expected to stumble on a chart by now!
    I'd like to ask, however, why are the debuffs that increase the damage the enemy receives/deals are not covered? Or they second awakenings? And lastly, Bundle of Notes which not only brands the enemy but lowers damage received of allies in it and (seems to, please correct me if I'm wrong) stacks with Guardian Tune?
    Love the super clean presentation and actual helpful clips, by the way!

    • @Aiyulol

      The debuffs are the same for both supports. Note Bundle stacks with Guardian Tune.

    • @BM03
      @BM03 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Aiyulol My paladin is a baby and my bard is honestly not much better since I am a new player anyways, sorry to pile on the questions:
      I could not find a debuff to lower enemies damage on Paladin like Lethargic Harmony on Bard's Dissonance or Suprise Death from Prelude of Death.
      Granted Prelude of Death seems too hard to use and short lived, but dissonance seemed like a fantastic tool to keep damage low and with note's stacking with everything, I thought Bard maybe had even a bit more edge on the party defense side.
      Whereas Paladin seems to be able to shield himself with a ton of skills if chosen.
      Are these attack downs not worth of noting at endgame? Is -30% too little or denied on bosses?

    I am a Wardancer one trick on Azena(u.s. east). My wife has mained Bard from day 1. While I struggle to feel relevant to a party, she seems at times dissatisfied with her class. Some of it has to do with (both of us) being F2P and proper gearing and engravings for supports are at times way out of price range despite playing 6 alts each daily. Some of it has to do with how the game weights aspects of the MVP system.
    I recently used my Feighton Pass on a Paladin support build and it feels more effective than my 4x3 WD. Infact,Paladin makes me feel like a GOD and I've enjoyed every second I have spent on the class.
    I propose this suggestion. If you have a friend that plays support, go out of your way to make them feel amazing. You do not need to be MVP every time. For example, when we do Chaos dungeons together, I spec my Phoenix Advent, and Wind god to freeze targets. It is a huge loss of dps, but it keeps things locked down. I still have to hold off on damage uptime to not snag mvp but what it has taught me is the Bard's rotation, in addition to having taught me what to watch for in order to increase my dps when it matters and that is something I was not doing prior to taking this initiative on my end. Now, we are 100% in sync as a team and it's downright amazing.
    Both supports are fun, but I would say it takes Bard longer to get to the same point a Paladin does in regards to how the classes feel to play.
    In closing, whisper your supports when yall are done and show them your appreciation. It will go a long way towards helping the support shortage, and keep the current ones from rerolling to a new main. Be a TEAM PLAYER.

    This video explain exactly why I think Bard is inferior, like of course I rather have a Bard in my part than no support whatsoever, but if I were to choose I would obviously pickup a Paladin... and this would be so easy to fix, just make so Bard can actually play long range, make it be able to give shields at distance and unify the Z and X... Bard would not be broken if that was the case...

  • @_Tomon

    Excellent guide.
    How 'possible' is to have both Bard and Paladin in one group? Since as a different classes their buffs should stack, right?
    Or the benefits are just not enough and the party will lack DPS for the various checks that bosses have?

    • @christopherbrau5229
      @christopherbrau5229 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This, wife and I have historically duoed as a bard and paladin in pretty much every MMO we've played and are starting down the same path here. The video makes it seem like an "either or". Is there practical value to having both? Sustained higher total group DPS? Sustained better group durability? Or does the group ultimately lose more than they gain by having both?

    • @Aiyulol
      @Aiyulol  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You want 1 support for every 4 people as having 2 supports will limit their usefulness (synergy debuff doesn't stack, etc.) Most raids are 8-man content so you will want to have 2 supports, one in each party.
