    My favorite combo is:
    Couscous, for the dressing plain olive oil, olives, feta cheese, for the fruit some pear, and the rest is iceberg lettuce, delish 👌🏻

    Yea, 3 minutes my ass. If you have someone who will prepare all the ingredients for you on the table, cook the beef and barley, and then clean and wash up after you're done stuffing everything into a jar. For the rest of us, this is a 1 hour job, not counting in the time it takes to go out and buy all this stuff.

    • @Matzes
      @Matzes 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +derbigpr500 well you are shopping for groceries anyway,aren't you? you wouldn't go out just to buy those ingridients for that specific salad.
      so you can't count that.
      I would say this is a 10min job, and you can easily to 2 batches in pretty much the same time, take one with you, keep one in the fridge

    • @adam4757
      @adam4757 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +derbigpr500 I agree. Pearl barley takes ages to cook.

      +derbigpr500 I think he meant 3 minutes after the barley and the beef has been prepared...

    • @adam4757
      @adam4757 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Stefan Perunicic Yes obviously, but it's not true when he says it takes 3 minutes to prepare

    • @derbigpr500
      @derbigpr500 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Stefan Perunicic I know that, that's why I wrote the comment in the first place. It's like saying "it takes me 2 minutes to prepare this amazing steak dinner", and then I show you a video where I cut an already cooked and rested steak into slices and serve it on a plate next to already cooked potatoes.

    What a great video, an awesome addition to anyones routine.
    And here is a Greek suggestion, starting from the bottom up as you would with the jar:
    -Couscous
    -Purslane, tomato & cucumber salad
    -Onion cut into rings
    -Red wine vinegrete
    -Crumbled feta
    -Fresh mint/basil/oregano leaves splashed with olive oil
    -Finished with a traditional Cretan barley dakos(ντάκος)

  • @porcusuxor
    @porcusuxor 9 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    Yay, a great idea, Jamie! And for those who say this isn't going to take three minutes -- alright, true, but you can also do a lot of it the day before, then just toss everything in right before you go -- and that'd be three minutes prep, right there!
    (If that's the case though, I suggest you put the dressing in first, then the hardier vegetables or fruits, then nuts or seeds, then everything else. And oh, if you don't want to eat from the jar, then have a bowl ready at work to upend the whole thing in ... in which case the jar would just be your mode of transportation, so to speak.)

    quinoa
    cherry tomatoes
    dressing: a lemon/stone ground mustard vinaigrette
    baby arugula
    mixed greens (dandelion leaves, red leaf lettuce, frisee, and romaine)
    olive oil poached Pacific salmon
    baby spinach
    toasted almonds

    I love jam jar salads. I made one last week that was tomatoes, yellow pepper, grated carrot, buckwheat, broccoli, raw spinach and pumpkin seeds, with just some balsamic vinegar as the dressing.
    For everyone wondering how to eat them, I usually shake mine and pour it into a bowl.

      Then he should start to think like a normal human and not like a celebrity. People who go to work don't have time for doing this, also almost everytime there are too many fresh ingredients which will rot if there aren't 20 people eating them before.
      Plus, for me, as someone who has to live with around 300$ a month, cooking is impossible cause it's too expensive. Potatos, noodles and bread are my best friend, even if I totally want to live healthier. Maybe I should try grass smoothies...

    Great idea! I could imagine a japanese style one or a mexican inspired one. The japanese with whole grain rice at the bottom, some daikon, spinach, grilled salmon, maybe wakame and edamame/beansprouts on top for the crunch + sesame seeds. The dressing would be just some sesame seed oil (roasted?), rice vinegar, soy sauce/ponzu, garlic+ginger and some crushed sesame seeds.
    For the mexican; some Quinoa or some kind of beans at the bottom, fresh iceberg, tomatoes and grilled peppers, maybe corn, some poched and pulled appart chicken breast (seasoned with cumin etc.) or maybe some seasoned and fried minced beef, fresh coriander with a few slices of chili and crumbled tortilla chips/peanuts on top. Take some lime juice, yoghurt and olive oil for the dressing with oregano and spices to bring it all together.

    Back when I had salads for lunch on a daily basis, I used to take my them with me in a mason jar all the time. Spinach, lettuce, bell pepper and some grated carrots with some fish or cajun chicken on top were my favorites. This video has made me want to go out and make them again. And if your jar is big enough, all you have to do is shake it up a few times and then you can eat it straight from the jar. I love it.

    • @simonagherman
      @simonagherman 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ivo Temelkov Here's a trick: you put a smaller, round, empty plastic recipient inside the jar, that fits nicely right on top of the salad. That would prevent the salad from mixing ahead of time and, when removed, it'd give you extra space to mix, shake and roll.

    the point of the mason jars is so you cqn pre prep your salads. and keep them well sealed.
    when you're ready to eat it grab your pre prepped salad and chuck it in a bowl.
    it's make things easier and prepared beforehand.
    you're not meant to eat out of the mason jat.

    • @vegnewb
      @vegnewb 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Madhatter Cryss You could pre-prep a salad with Tupperware. There is no advantage to doing it this way except the slight advantage that the Mason jar seals a little better.

    I make these for lunch. My god do i get office envy (the books description does forewarn this). After you get the hang of it you can get creative and do your own and use up any left overs you have.

    I would suggest: kidney beans at the bottom, lettuce, sweet corn, olives, smoked mackerel, prawns or tuna , and dried flat bread at the top, with; of course,: olive oil ( with mince garlic) and lime juice & black pepper dressing.
