  • Thank you for taking the time to watch my reaction to Nothing Else Matters By VoicePlay.
The lowest and craziest voice or tone I've ever heard. What a unique way to cover this song!

The guy on the far right was beatboxing the whole time as well as playing the violin and doing the BV’s when there was no percussion.

VoicePlay as well as Geoff's solos are played as they are, they like reactors and don't block them. Geoff (bass) has a 5 octave range, from the last note on a piano, A0 (growl), B0 (subharmonics), F#1 (full chest), A5 falsetto above high C. The fellow on the far right (looking at them) is Layne, beatboxer, baritone, and violinist, aka VioLayne. The original Metallica had an instrumental solo and VoicePlay was true to the song. VoicePlay has 2 songs over the years that they have used the violin in, this one and Warriors.

From left to right: Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci is the bass singer, he also has a solo channel you should check out. Next to him is J. None, he was a member of the group but left to serve in the Navy, he comes back when he can. Eli (rhymes with jelly) Jacobson is the awesome rock tenor. Cesar DelaRosa is the newest member of the grouo, a baritenor who is quite subdued in this video but usually brings the energy. Layne Stein is the beatboxer/tenor/VioLayne. He and Geoff are founding members of the group and have sang together since middle school.
This sing was arranged by Geoff, he and Layne arrange most of the songs the band does.
Nothing Else Matters does have quite a long guitar intro which the guys paid homage to here.
Voiceplay does all kinds of music and does it all so well. I hope you continue to check them out.

Actually the image is reversed here, so Geoff is on the far right.

The official Metallica video for Nothing Else Matters runs 6:25--it's actually a bit longer than this one. VoicePlay covered the full song here, including what were originally guitar instrumentals. And yes, Geoff Castellucci can go lower than that. Take a look at their cover of Oogie Boogie's song if you'd like to hear _almost_ his full five-octave range in all its glory, and he has his own solo channel chock-full of incredible bass moments (as well as multi-part harmonies he records and layers to amazing effect, and fun costumes and theatrics.) J.None is a former member who's doing a tour with the Navy currently but returns when he's on leave to perform with them; he's the one sitting next to Geoff. Layne on the far right does sing, and beautifully, but he's better-known for beatboxing and occasionally summoning that violin out of thin air. They're not the only a capella group who will add an instrument on occasion, when it best suits whatever effect they're going for. Liked, subscribed and I'd love to see more VP and Geoff reactions!

Thank you for reaching to Voice Play. Some of their best songs are..Dream on ( by Aerosmith ) ..Carry On Wayward Son ( by Kansas). The Dragonborn Comes Skyrim. Halo, the theme song from the Halo video game. The composer to the Halo music was amazed, overwhelmed by Voice Plays cover. He loved it. Voice Play will blow your socks off. They are known as The Theater Kids of a capella. Other a capella groups have used instruments as well. Pentatonix often use the cello & had a featured artist play the violin. Home Free used a guitar. Musical instruments are becoming popular in a capella groups now.

Rock is all about breaking the rules!! 😂 They killed this one! It went to the top of the pile for me! This group is crazy good. They cover all kinds of music from rock to pop to Disney to video games and movie songs. Musicals too. They don't really stay in their lane, lol.

Geoff, the bass, has his own solo channel as well, so if you really enjoyed just him you should check that out 😊
I think the reason they opted for the violin there was mostly to pay homage to the original song. You know, the big guitar solo.

    Awesome reaction.
Voiceplay is my all-time favorite group. Geoff, the bass has his own channel doing solo with background instruments. Yes. He can go much lower and much higher.
Also. Make sure with all their videos you watch all the way through to the end of the credits. Not always but a lot of times they add little surprises after a brief pause. The credits show a thank you to their Patreons. And usually one or two of their other many videos.
    Left to right...
    Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci - Bass.
    J None - Baritone/Guest/Former Member.
Eli (like jelly) Jacobson - Tenor/Rock Tenor.
Cesar De La Rosa - Baritone/Tenor.
    Layne Stein (Stine)- Beatboxer/Baritone.
Yes. Occasionally Acapella can use an instrument depending on the song. In this one for the guitar solo Voiceplay replaced it with the violin since no one can imitate a guitar.
In Warriors Layne (VioLayne) played all the way through
In Hoist The Colours Cesar had key ring with keys to imitate the shackles in the movie.
Voiceplay are independent. They do everything themselves from start to finish except cameras, makeup and audio mixing. Which means they make their own decisions. Especially Geoff and Layne. They do the arrangements on theirs videos 50/50. Geoff did this one. So you don't have to cover any of theirs or Geoff's. They don't block. They said they work too hard making these videos for everyone to enjoy. No matter who. They even encourage people to share them.
J None is a former member that no one considers him former. Just on hiatus. He left in 2021 to sing with the US Navy. Cesar joined right after to replace him.
They have had several member changes since 1997 so depending on the song and year is to who is in it. Consistent though is Geoff , Layne and Eli.
I hope you react to more Voiceplay and Geoff. If you do you'll see quite alot of fans show up and subscribe.
Every video they do is fantastic. They are one of the big 3 Acapella groups. Pentatonix, Home Free and Voiceplay.
These guys are also known as both "The Theater Kids of Acapella" and "The Kings of Halloween".

Just so you know, Pentatonix does use instruments in some of their covers, too. 😉It's the same with Voiceplay. If the instrument adds to the song, they use it. I liked your reaction, I hope to see more of Voiceplay's and maybe even some of Geoff's (the bass') solo stuff, too

Seems you don't really remember the original that well at all... It actually runs a bit longer... The intro in the original is a guitar solo...which these guys managed to perfectly fill....The one as you say doesn't seem to sing is Layne, vocal percussionist and does actually sing baritone, tenor and occasionally a bit of bass in various videos......And in answer to your question...... Yes he can go lower and does in many of their videos as well as his own channel. ... Also though not strictly fully a cappella it is known for such groups (PTX comes to mind) to introduce an instrument every now and then... Voiceplay in all the time they've been together have used the violin twice.. 3 years apart, the other time being in Warriors by Imagine Dragons...

Not really warming up to this "Mr. Know It All" Baku here. He's a little annoying, IMO.

The one who isn't singing is the beatboxer, the vocal percussion, though he does sing in other videos. Sorry but to reproduce a guitar solo is hard enough of a violin without being accused of cheating. The magority of the song is unacompanied which makes it a capella. Both Home Free and I believe PTX have brought in an instrument at times.

The beatboxer Kevin from Pentatonix does play the cello in some pieces. Nobody really That I've heard of argues that it's not acapella
