    Welcome to the rabbit hole that is VoicePlay
    FYI: This is early VoicePlay.
    • Far left/all black: Layne (beatboxer)
    • next to him is J-None (they're saving the 5th spot for him when he is discharged from the Navy)
    • middle is Eli (pronounced like elly)
    • big dude hitting the high notes is Earl (he has since left the group to pursue a Broadway career)
    • and far right is none other than the man who made a deal with the devil for his bass voice Geoff Castellucci.

    Yes three great a capella groups but VoicePlay stand out for their theatrical videos, We are VoicePlayers as far as I know. :)

    The last three they've done does some of their versatility.
    Creep - you will cry your eyes out
    Drunken Sailor -you will bust a gut laughing
    Hellfire -sinister scary
    Subscribed in anticipation of more Voiceplay!

    For a very different listen to Geoff's bass, he sings lead in their just-released, Hellfire. (he sings Frollo, the evil villain from Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame.) But if it's riffs you love - Tennessee Whiskey. It's all insanely good.

    That is not even Geoff's lowest. That's right the bass singer can go all the way to the basement with his low notes. But, he can also go incredibly high as well. I hope you do a lot more Voice Play. They are my favorite of all the acapella groups❤

    Whoa, and I have heard VoicePlay before, but not this; what a powerful performance that was. Holy cows! As a former choir member (church and High School competition) I promise you that they made that look easy. I would bet dollars to donuts that once the camera cut they were sweaty and exhausted. It's the best kind of exhaustion though, and I am only slightly jealous, lol! Awesome choice, wonderful reaction! Thank you!

    I paused you at 1.07, low? Oh honey you ain't heard nothing yet! He and Tim Foust are friends and they both have that bass down to a fine art! And I really love Matt from Pentatonix but Avi will always be my favorite there! Geoff (bass in this group) does a lot of songs on his own. You need to check him out too!

    Yes, Layne Stein, over on the left, is the beatboxer. But this arrangement needed no beatboxing, so he's just singing a fifth vocal part. He was previously the group's baritone.
    Geoff Castellucci, the bass, on his personal YT channel, has vids about how he trained himself to sing low. He uses a combination of vocal fry, growl and subharmonic techniques. He learned the growl... which he says is essentially clearing your throat on pitch... from Tim Foust of Home Free.
    *
    You've opened up another rabbit hole now. Have fun.

    Flash back video. Geoff Castellucci ( bass singer) has a five-octive - six-octave range . You do realize that they're doing a cover of one of Elvis' hits.

    The bug guy, aka Earl Elkins Jr., said that when they were on tour that he enjoyed watching the audience when Geoff (Jeff) - Bass Singer, would sing and have confused looks. Until they figured out that yes Geoff is singing Bass and Earl is singing High Tenor.
    Welcome to the Rabbit Hole 😊
    Just don't compare the groups. They are all friends along with their fans; and many are cross over fans who love all three (that's all that is asked)

    There are others like this that they've covered too: a few are "True Colors," "Bridge Over Troubled Water," "I Can't Make You Love Me" and "In My Room." That last one is a Beach Boys cover and it's a beautiful rendition. These all show their softer side and really show off their harmonies. Loved your reaction!! ❤

    Yeah, the fan base is called Voiceplayers. I love all three of the "big three" groups, but as a musical theater geek myself, Voiceplay is definitely my favorite.
    Bridge Over Troubled Water, Tennessee Whiskey, Nothing Else Matters, Valhalla Calling, My Mother Told Me, Dream On, Hoist the Colors, Phantom of the Opera, Warriors, Queen in Five Minutes, Enemy...
    Voiceplay pretty much owns Halloween. They're the theater kids of Acapella and we love them for it. ;)
    Also a word of advice: Make sure you always play their videos through the outros/end credits. If you don't, you'll miss some fun stuff at times, messages, announcements, etc... also you'll hear about it in your comments if you don't. 🤣
    The same is true of Geoff Castellucci's solo channel.
    Enjoy the rabbit hole. It's lots of fun down here. :)

    Voiceplayers! Anything in their catalog. Although the lineup has changed over the years the quality never wavers throughout any genre they do which is pretty much all of them. Sadly the buff high tenor is no longer with them and J None is doing a hitch in the Naval Band but comes in whenever for a song like their latest Hellfire from Disney's The Hunchback of Notre dame. Great reaction.

  • @Broomrider1492

    My top two are VoicePlay and Home Free. The big guy with the full beard is Earl Elkins Jr. He left the group in 2020. So call us VoicePlayers and Home Fries.

  • @Z-LightfulMemories
    @Z-LightfulMemories ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Yeah, this is one of the couple/few they've done with no beat/baseline like usual. I'd recommend one of their newer ones next, like Nothing Else Matters. Earl (Mr, High Notes/big fella I think you called him) is no longer in the group and the awesome Cesar has stepped in to fill the spot. J None comes back often to feature (he's in the military, he's the soulful brother). Eli (pronounced, Ellie) is the one you were calling Baby NSync and yes he does some incredible runs but he's more well known as Rock God Eli. Yes, Layne (the one on the end in all black) is the beatboxer and he sings and plays violin, etc. Geoff is the bass and he's the king of Subharmonics.

    Voiceplay fans is known as VP's and great reaction! From left to right is Layne beatboxer J None, Elly (i think is right spelling but looks like Eli) Earl (guest appearances) and Geoff (Jeff) Mr Bass who likes to go sub level or earthquakes with his lows

    If you like Simon and Garfunkel covers checkout Geoff Castellucci's (he is bass in case you didn't know) solo cover The Sound of Silence. Oh and be forewarned when I say solo I mean he does all his background vocals too.

  • @DavideBaroni
    @DavideBaroni ปีที่แล้ว

    This is a much better introduction to Voiceplay than the Oogie Boogie Song IMHO. 🙂
    And even if, since this video was released, they had a few changes in their lineup, they kept improving under all aspects, and their late performances are just otherworldly. 🙂
    You named "Bridge over troubled water", which is very good as well. But try, as an example, their cover of Metallica's "Nothing else matters", and you'll get what I mean 😁. Or their latest, "Hellfire", from Disney's "Hunchback of Notre Dame"... Or the "Vikings pair" that is "My mother told me" followed by "Valhalla calling". But their older stuff is also incredibly good, as you just experienced. I'd suggest "True colors", and "Tennessee whiskey", and "Superstition", and... whatever else in their catalogue 😁.
    Enjoyed your reaction. Will subscribe in anticipation of more of them. 🙂
    Oh, BTW, Geoff ("Jeff") Castellucci, the bass, has his own "solo" channel, where he does "Low bass singer covers". He just released his Halloween song, "Jack's lament", from "Nightmare before Christmas"... I'd suggest you to check it out. Although "anomalous" in his production (he usually "clones" himself in 4 or 5 characters, each one with his voice and personality, and ofter outfit and makeup, and the clones have NAMES too!), it will give you an idea. 🙂
    See you next time!

    @cauldroncreations ปีที่แล้ว

    I really enjoyed this. I second everyones recomendations below and you also need to check out the bass, Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci's, solo channel for some amazing covers as well. To differentiate his channel from VP he does use light instrumentation but he does all the harmonies himself, even going so far as to clone himself on video. Start with 16 Tons, Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold, or Blackbird... or for a Halloween vibe either Monster Mash or his latest Jack's Lament from Nightmare Before Christmas.

    This is one of their older covers. Earl, the heavy-set gentleman, is no longer with them. Apparently, he left for business reasons. J-None, the darker skinned gentleman, is no longer with them either. He joined the US Navy singing group, but is featured every so often. Probably when he has some military leave. So, now they have four men (Geoff/Jeff Castelucci-Bass, Layne-beatboxer/percusionist/singer, Eli/Elly-bald guy with the high rock sounds, and Cesar-not in this video). The first two are originals. I guess, because of their shifting of singers, they stay with the standard four and choose a fifth singer to fit the cover they want to complete. BTW: Geoff has his own channel, where he harmonizes with himself, because he can with his 5-ish octave range.
    VP sing a large variety of genres. I think, because they live and grew up around Disney World/Universal Studios, they sing many Disney covers. Some of their medleys are the best. They sing sea shanties/pirate themes, video games, hard rock, etc.
    Since VP is lovingly considered the theater kids of A Capella, their best overall dress up video is Hoist the Colors and Valhalla Calling. Enjoy!
    Oh, BTW, since you like The Nightmare Before Christmas, you'll love Geoff's cover of Jack's Lament.

    People who like Pentatonix are called "Pentaholics." People who like Home Free are called "Home Fries." People who like VoicePlay are called "people". HTH.HAND.
    The best thing they've ever done is probably either Mountain King or Hoist the Colours, although if you like this kind of slow song with close harmony you may want to check out Tennessee Whiskey. It has vocal arpeggios ("runs") in it.

    my opinion if you like this style do "nothing else matters" it's simple yet complex in sounds it takes time to pick it apart
