This video shows the entire build process for the 7' x 12.6' metal frame platform for my off grid tiny home trailer build. What started out as a renovation project of a vintage trailer has now inspired a complete new build from the ground up. So far I'd say it's going great. Subscribe and follow along with my build process to see what kind of tiny home I end up living in.

That frame looks like it would weigh more than an entire vintage travel trailer!
Thanks for the video.I learned a lot, ready to weld my own Kei truck Micro Camper!
That is without a doubt the most overbuilt, sturdy trailer frame on the planet!! Well done Scott!!
Thanks Jim!
At 6:51I hope that you redid those welds and any others like it. Did a lot of Mig welding myself when employed at a horse and cattle trailer manufacturing company. Those need do be redone.
That is a beast of a trailer to take you well into the apocalypse. 😁
Those magnets were ingenious. I'm glad you started from scratch and I'm looking forward to the new build.
Thanks Irene.
Fantastic! They do NOT mess around, beautiful welds & those magnets! Wow.
You got that right!
nice design, heavy duty for sure
Sure is
/those young men put alot of pride into their work, its good to see , not seen much anymore in my experience.
Thats not a trailer frame -- its the sub frame for Sherman Tank. But hey -- your trailer your way -- it will be something your great grand kids will be able to use 👍
I’m honestly surprised he didn’t throw a layer of bondo over it to keep it from rusting out so it would last forever😅
Coming together nicely Scott...Andrew looks like a mini Jason Momoa lol.
Thanks Sam. Nice to hear from you.
@@DrenalinAdventures Had some bot target my comments and add advertisements for some naff (and probably very dodgy) movie streaming service on a few other subscriptions, so I'd refrained from commenting on anything for a while bro.
Great progress with Eddie 2.0 but it's making me anxious waiting for my trailer build to be complete so I can take delivery!! Happy to see yours take shape!! Keep the videos coming!!
Can't wait to see your setup.
I recommend bolting the hitch (with nice big washers) instead, because hitches tend to be a consumable in my experience
Love the chassis design. Never though of a T bar for the main drawbar. Will build something similar in the near future.
Eddie 2.0 in progress....please standby. Very cool to see the very first steps. Hopefully this video shows a lot of people just how much work is involved in the planning & cresting of the frame. Just think every camper out there started out just this same way.
Thank you
I will enjoy watching your progress with this build.
Glad to hear it!
The tires and rims look like for new truck . Great job guys .
Thanks 👍
This is going to be such a satisfying build when your done. You will know this camper from the ground up. Thanks for sharing Scott.🙂🇨🇦👍
Hope so!
this was a really cool video! Can't wait to see this trailer progress.
Thank you.
Nice touch with the rims. This build is so cool, great start with quality craftsmanship and design. Thanks Scott!
Glad you like it!
Great segment, I’ve learned another trade. Cant wait for that whip to hit the road.~ML&Aloha Your Boy Kekoa&Ohana.🌴🤙🏽🌴🏕🏜
Us too!
freeking outstanding Scott !
thank you
Cool project, looking forward to seeing it progress. Good luck!
Thanks!
What a fun build after so much planning! Excited to see next chapter for Eddie 2.0
More to come!
I just found this so interesting. We bought a 12’ v-nose aluminum trailer and designed it into a camper and kayak hauler. Amazing what you can up with for ideas and custom build it to your needs. Looking forward to what comes next.😘
Thanks Trisha
Looking good!
Thank you! Cheers!
Keep on good work
Eddy 2.0 is big-boned fella! Looking forward to our trips with him.
Me too. Hopefully by steelhead season. 🤞
Nice job 👍.
That would have cost a million if built with lumber, lumber prices have gone crazy. Looking good so far, digging those rims👍
Thanks 👍
Very nice work they did. It's seriously overbuilt, but a very nice piece nonetheless. Looking forward to watching the rest of your build.
I was wondering about that
I was wondering where you were at with the trailer rebuild and now I know. Thanks for sharing.
You bet
Interesting build. As Eddie was a bit of a dud, maybe you should name this one Eagle as you sore ahead with it.😉
Lol, maybe.
Hey! Your magnets work a little better than my Harbor Freight ones. LOL
What was the weight of the project at this point (Frame + axle/wheel)?
Great project, Scott. I knew you'd figure out something spectacular. Our friend built their camper from his design, but he made the frame with Chrome-molly (sp?) Very strong but light in weight. Good Luck with the remaining work you have cut out for yourself.
Thank you Catherine
Nice job bro...wish i could help you for all works...
Great inspirational work, Scott. What is the thickness of steel tubes on the bottom sub-frame? Thank you for sharing.
Maybe I missed it somewhere but, did you ever weigh the bare trailer?
That's going to be a stronger trailer than any mass production camper built with light gauge stringer channel stock.
Thanks.
Why did you choose 2 layers? Why did you choose an axle with leaf springs?
Hi, have seen all the episodes and really glued till your first drive.
Appreciate if you can tell what steel did you use for the frame and what sizes.
TIA
Total cost of trailer build?
Now you take the frame to powder coat i guess? Well(d) done! 👍😁
That's the plan! Or a LineX spot. Not sure yet.
Nice built. What size metal are you using, and how much weight can it handle? Thanks in advance
Please more information about the dimensions and sizes of the main chassis
Excellent guide... Would it be much more difficult to install a sliding mechanism in the frame for a slide out room, or to make a detachable hitch?
That’s interesting that they didn’t square the axle to the frame.
Nice heavy trailer under construction! Good size tires. No power assist breaks? Have to keep watching on what your plans are👍 B Deacon Manitoba
Thanks 👍
Can you tell me the thickness of the aluminum sheets that you use? Thank you, awsome! I'm getting ready to start my own and your videos will guide me!
All the details are in the "How much does it cost" video.
Very nice build, well done! These wheels have a bolt pattern of 5x5, while your axle hubs should be 5x4½. Did you use an adapter?
Awesome build! I am excited to follow along. What resources have you found for good information on trailer frame design? I have been itching to build my own trailer for years now, but I always get stuck at the design the trailer frame part.
I was surprised how little info there is. I spent a lot of time researching my design. I sent it to my friends who had various backgrounds and made changes based on their recommendations. I wouldn’t change a thing to my design now. Very happy with it.
Do you have the design plans for the trailer you built posted on your channel?
👍
Are there any guidelines or general rules of thumb to consider when determining material dimensions and things like floor joist spacing etc.?
Great video. The best I've seen. This is something I'm looking to do myself. Novice question - what type of metal did you use for the frame?
Thanks, cold rolled steel square tubing
@@DrenalinAdventures I think it was hot rolled steel 3/16" 2x2
What size tires did you have on there and what was the ground clearance after you mounted the axelon top of the springs
kudos for building new. But inkscape is the worst ever.
Hey Scott, was just revisiting your Algonquin tripping gear video. I just picked up some of those bug nets you said you couldn’t find. They’re made by bushline. Algonquin outfitters in Huntsville has them. Let me know if you’re still looking for them and can’t source any online I’ll send you some.
Very generous offer Steve but I have enough for now. Thank you.
how do you attatch the scissor jacks so they can come off?
Nice! Where did you get the wheels?
Canadian content is welcome. The only issue I have with US builds, is that the dollar exchange rate, the sheer number of outlets, and availability of parts compared to Canada is insane; American builders just don't know how good they have it.
Of course, living half way to the Arctic Circle, actually 2km, south of the continental divide, doesn't help!!! Lovely welds...
Gee, did you weight the frame and its axle?
As soon as I get it on the road I'll be bringing it to a scale. I know how much the steel weighed.
Would it be okay to stick weld this all together?
Yes,, as long as you are a decent welder,, if not so competent, get some scrap and practice till it gets better, then go hard,, I have just begun a similar project and it will be all arc welded,
👀 where did you get those tires?
What is the wall thickness of the steel square tubes used in the bottom layer of the frame? 1/4"? (The music cuts out the audio at that moment). 01:20
question... why did your top layer frame not go that last 8-10 inches to the very back of the lower frame ?
It will be supported a storage rack.
can you link to the source of the research you did for setting up the axle? I've got the capability and desire to build a trailer but don't know where to start as far as design
60/40 split. 60 up front
I just started watching your videos like I said but I am sad already to see Eddie have to go maybe you can name this one Eddie lll. 🤔?
What was the actual size of the trailer?
no bevels before welding, not even cleaning it of factory gunk. thick tubing and thin welds means half of its strength is unused
How cost effective? Instead of buying one...
What is the frame thickness?
3/16”x2”x2”
that's a weird 2-layer frame, lots of excess weight. that could be done in one layer
