    Welcome to Episode #5 of my off grid travel trailer build. In this video I will show you how to install a new set of Rockwell American 10 inch electric brakes to my single 3500 lb axle trailer. I also explain how to use hub adapters for changing your bolt patterns.

    👍 Great job Scott. I know you did but you didn't speak to it lightly lube the inner seal with grease to ride on the shaft.

    did you consider putting a raptor liner on your new steel trailer to prevent rusting? great story you are telling.

    Nothing will destroy your wheel bearings faster than using wheel spacers. They shift the load to the small outside bearing.

    You should have just mentioned that when you perched the axle just buy it with the brakes already with it. Would have been cheaper and saved time.

    You said 5x5 but link is for 5x150 spacers. Do both work??

    New sub here. I like your channel, but I'd like to point a few things out. 1) Not all JEEP wheels are 5 on 5. Older is 5 on 4.5 like your hubs. 2) I agree on all of the bearing stuff other than you forgot to lay some grease in the seal before putting the hub on the axle. That's a sure fire way to smoke the seals.. 3) I am guessing you did, but in case you didn't, the wheel adapters also need to be torqued. I have never lost a bearing on a trailer in my life, but I know plenty who have. One thing I always do is keep a spare hub and bearings and the tools to install them in the trailer or trailer box at all times. Even if you take out a drum for some reason, maybe wasted lugs from being lose, you can replace it with a non brake hub...

      Thanks for the sub and the info. Hope you enjoy the rest of the build.

      @@DrenalinAdventures I am sure I will. Something else I wanted to mention is that I like that you flipped the axle OVER the spring. Especially for an off road unit! You may find the tire and fender a bit close for comfort one you have the rest of the trailer built. In that case, I suggest you cut off your spring perches and add a 2" x 2" X an additional 6-8 inches for and aft of the original perches and re-weld the perches on. This will not only give you 2 more inches and keep the axle on top of the springs, but also spread the trailer weight over a larger foot print of the original frame.. That is, if you feel the need to!! ;)

    Love your video but I find it to be a bit unbelievable. A jeep owner selling anything OEM off a jeep for less than an arm and a leg? I don't believe it for a second. Jeep owners will be like "1993 wrangler 455k miles. Rolled 18 times down the side of a mountain. $20k. Now lowballers I know what I've got."

    I have a question. Why not use non-electric brakes? Because relying on electricity seems like a double edge sword. If you use mechanical brakes it eliminates the need to rely on electricity right?

    • @society_archer7104
      @society_archer7104 ปีที่แล้ว

      You realize you gotta supply electricity to the trailer while you are pulling it in order for the tail lights/turn signals to work anyway?

    A brand new sub here, and I am enjoying the episodes. Looks like you maybe forgot to manually adjust up the brakes after fitting them?

    He's coming together! For the way you camp, a 'cabin' with wheels makes more sense. You aren't locked into only one camping location. And Eddie is small enough to find good locations without having to go to crowded campgrounds.

      He's still Eddie. I saved some wood from his original DNA to use for the new one.

      @@DrenalinAdventures that's funny man, I guess woods got DNA , if not it can "identify as Eddie", at least in the states anyhow. keep up the great work. Looking to see that thing camping!👍👍
