    100% correct on the wiper blade issue. I have been a wiper blade engineer for over 20 years, and we often see windshields get "vision fatigue", which leads to a breakdown in the wiper blade materials. There are very few ways to remedy this, but one way is for the driver to wear dark glasses, which reduces the vision and therefore reduces the vision fatigue. Another way is to make it a habit of frequently leaning over toward the passenger seat while you drive. This spreads out the vision fatigue and can extend the lifetime of your wiper blades.

      I made the irresponsible mistake of letting someone learning lines drive my truck through a tricky spot last night. Ended up axled out hard front and rear. Managed to find service and call for rescue. It barely took more than idle from the recovery truck to get us out. Five miles down he smacked an elk and wiped out the passenger side steer. We put the spare on and it lasted five miles. Ran up to service, called for help again to save the second truck, and we got home at 4am with a couple guys needing to show up for work in the morning. What a mess that was. I have a winch I'll weld in this week and a bent hi lift that needs straightening that will ride with us on these runs. And I'll drive the hard spots until my 12k Apex is good to go. The right line for the rig is EVERYTHING. And if you can't spot lines a winch is a saving grace.

    The driver’s wiper indeed works harder, but for two reasons: the passenger wiper pushes water, etc into the clearing area of the driver wiper, and being on the side that takes more opposing debris from oncoming traffic (sand, brake/tire dust, road grit..) the wiper is encountering more abrasive on the blade.

    • @larrystark9141
      @larrystark9141 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Also the distance the drivers side travels over the windshield is further than the passengers. Adding that it moves all of the passengers water and debris along with it's water and debris and it has further to move across the windshield that causes more wear and tear.

    I can validate your windshield wiper observation. When I was a teenager in the 1970’s I worked afternoons in an auto parts store. In those days we sold wiper blades in pairs and customers would complain that they only needed the driver’s side wiper. The driver’s side wore out first every time. And yes, our theory was the same as yours, that it wore out first because it got looked through more. I spit coffee out my nose when you said that, it took me back 50 years.
    BTW - there is a more scientific explanation, but I’m not going to ruin a good story with the truth.

    • @simesimicevic8713
      @simesimicevic8713 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

    I have been working on vehicles for 55 years, and for a long time I hated the "spring clamps" on radiator and heater hoses and replaced them with stainless steel "aircraft" screw clamps.
    Turns out I was wrong, and that they can fail because hot-cold cycling can result in them being loose enough to leak.
    Factory "spring clamps" are actually called "constant tension" and provide a more secure connection because it isn't affected my that "hot-cold" expansion and contraction.
    That said, I got one of the 'hand grip cable operated spring clip pliers" because they make life much easier in hard to reach spots. My Vise-Grip Toolbox pliers will often work in an emergency, but they also tend to slip when you least expect or want it.

    • @bryancohn9406
      @bryancohn9406 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      I've had the same experience, after 30 plus years of working on racing cars. Worm clamps always work themselves loose and require checking/tightening and it wasn't until I worked with an automotive engineer from an OEM that I learned why the spring clamps were better. They are also faster to install on an assembly line! Anyway, I only use Oetiker clamps or fuel injection hose clamps or pressure hoses or spring clamps on radiator hoses. I'll use old school worm clamps on vent hoses or the like that aren't critical in the same way as all other hoses.

    • @redmondjp
      @redmondjp 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      Ditto for myself - constant-diameter (the ones everyone likes) clamps don't stay tight under all operating conditions, while constant-tension ones do. I have settled on the constant-tension version of the stainless screw clamps that have belleville washers to constantly apply spring force. They are very expensive, but if it keeps a hose from popping off in the middle of nowhere, it's totally worth it.

    Photons stick to rubber so when you have driven for a long time the build up on the driver's wiper blade stiffens the rubber and causes it to start streaking. If you use Gumby's Photon Defender Treatment on your blades rather than that water beading stuff, you will get a longer lasting water dispersion effect. Remember that he was once a little green ball of clay who now has made millions selling his Photon Defender!

    Another great video. Kudos to the first guy for giving MORR a call. There's no reason push a bad situation; it can result in damage to the vehicle or worse personal injury. As for the gentleman on the Africa Twin. Just like your off-road rig with 4 wheels the tires make all the difference. Looking at the tread pattern on his tires they appear to be Dulop Trailmax Raid tires. In the world of motorcycle tires these are considered a 50/50 tire (50% on-road and 50% off-road). I have watched a couple of reviews on this tire and in dry dirt, gravel and hardpack conditions they work very well. When riding in mud or deep sand a knobby tire or one with big blocks will work better (30/70 tire).

    Clay is clay where ever I have been in this nation. I built Institutional green houses in the south and clay is slick like hell, until it is saturated, then it tends to grab hold and won't let go. I think the sand content has a lot to do with how slick it is. We used my 4x4 to get into most of the sites. Arkansas had this stuff that would swallow my truck everyday, but I was still able to churn through it. Texas has this slick clay that I can hand winch my 4x4 off of it with a come-along while leaving the 4x4 in low range first gear.

    Wiper blades are just 1 tool in the job of keeping the windshield clear and clean. The wiper arms have a big role too as they age, the springs begin to lose the pressure needed to apply the right amount of pressure to the windshield, leaving streaks. You need to check and change the arms every once in a while not just you blades.

    Hi there, the airtime you’re passing around with the MORR team is expanding, and I for one am enjoying it. Matt you’re the leader of the crew, the star of the show which Is why I enjoy it, but there are many others in your orbit. Besides (Tom, who’s a planet of his own :-) You the man Tom!) Good call for adding them in over the last few videos, the content has improved. The wipers issue is only dependent on the fact as the driver you’re seeing the wiper you look at do its job and your more aware of its overall performance. They move at the same pace :-) The call of the guy at the start of the first cut was smart and it shows that he is not reaching above his experience or comfort zone. As he increases his trail experience he will learn and know his limits which will cause less impact on his 4x4ing enjoyment and limit risk. I would request an update on your next personal build. You got to have something in mind that is specifically only "a you project" (yay, yay, where’s the time!) What are you building? where is the updates! :-) Peace and prosperity my friend.

    • @CRneu
      @CRneu 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      you don't need alcohol. Whenever you fuel up just use the rough side of the windshield squeegee or a wet paper towel and wipe them down. If you do it often then you don't need a solvent. Using solvent will drastically reduce the life of the blades. Just keep them clean.
      Steaks are caused by a variety of things from spring tension(springs wear out in the arms) to dust/oil/grime to deterioration of the blade itself.

If you take some methalated spirits (the purple stuff you use for camp cooking) pour some on a folded up piece of kitchen paper then wipe the rubber on the blades it removes the traffic film and can get them working again.

Always check them for tear and wear and change them regularly on both sides. With the Cybertruck you will have no choice but to line up for a long replacement queue at a Tesla Centre.😂

    Allow me to prove you wrong. As soon as you have a passenger, both sides are equally seen through. And as soon as you have a third passenger (usually behind the passenger) the passenger side wiper has to do more work. Then when there is a fourth person, both sides are equal again. So, unless you drive alone a lot, the passenger side is looked through more.
    Bonus looking though: the driver has to look to the right side from time to time.
    ;-)
    -edit: It might just be me/my car where the second person sits on the passenger side most of the time. In this video most of them sit on the driver side.

    I would NEVER dare challenge MCVT (Matt's Corrosive Vision Theory), but a case could be made for the possibility of an alternative hypothesis. Here it is: wipers are mostly used when there is water on the windshield. That water can be directly falling from the sky as rain, in which case it will fall on both sides of the windshield in equal amounts. Alternately, water may have been sprayed from the road by incoming traffic, in which case it will be coming mainly from the left and will transport all sorts of debris, dust and sand that will adversely abrade the rubber blade of the driver's side wiper. This is known as ITMUWB, Incoming Traffic Messing Up Wiper Blades.
    You are totally welcome.
