    This is our second day of work in California. We stayed hopping the whole time we were out there. I would have liked to meet up with some folks but time wouldn't allow. Next year I'm hoping to go out a little earlier to maybe have a couple of meetups. It'd be nice to put some faces with some names of some of our regular or long time commenters and subs.

      Thank you so very much for your video. I always learn so much from you. Not only do you admit you don't know everything but you're willing to learn. Because of you I have even more respect of these than I did before. No I'm not a beekeeper. But I can actually now pick up bees which I was sorely afraid of 😁

    Last season Almonds are called Mummies. I grow almonds now learning about bees.
    Looks like Central Valley Almondville California. Almonds are budded off peach roots and the English walnuts are commonly grown in western states, where they are typically grafted onto the roots of the native California black walnut

    It is really cool to see my local California scenery through the eyes of someone who did not grow up around it. There are so many crops up and down the Central Valley and they need bees. I just never thought about the commercial bee keepers that much before.

    • @billiamc1969

      The bees have to be moved out of that entire area or they would starve to death...they also have to heavily feed all 1.6 million colonies while on almonds for the same reason

    • @Doxymeister
      @Doxymeister 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@billiamc1969 With all those blossoms....do almond blossoms not produce nectar? The bees are only moving pollen from tree to tree, not drinking nectar? I'm not a beekeeper, so totally new to this. Thanks!

      @LarryLeesBees 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Doxymeister - The bees will bring in nectar and make honey from the almonds but it is mostly fed back to the bees for their consumption. It is a little bitter and not a lot of people like the taste of the almond honey.

      Head out to Oakdale, many of the traveling bee keepers stay out there. The hotels are always packed in late winter with their trucks. There’s still many local bee keepers that sell the honey either in front of their property or at the farmer’s markets.

    Beautiful countryside and flawless music accompaniment I wish there was more variations of different pollens for the bees, someday hopefully growers will allow wild flowering borders around and between the rows of trees to help feed the bees naturally.

    • @janvafa9959
      @janvafa9959 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If they did that the bees would not choose to pollinate the almonds as a priority... they would opt for the more nectar rich flowers...

    • @johnoliver9885
      @johnoliver9885 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Jan I believe bees tend to choose well, borders of wild flowers would simple add different pollens and make varied beebread, they would certainly always gravitate to the most abundant pollen source such as the almonds. I am just saying we could make their job easier on the bees themselves.

Then the hives started coming back with half the frames gone. People in California were splitting our hives. It's not worth the headaches to send bees to California here on the eastern shore of Maryland we have lots of cucumbers watermelon apple orchards. It's just not worth dealing with those CALIFORNIANS. The number of almond trees just keeps increasing at the cost of depleted water tables.

      I was going to ask about that. I know here in Oklahoma, we've started a program to try to eradicate the red cedar, as they suck up literally four times the water than any native tree (red cedars are an invasive species here)--it's a real concern since we're right on the edge of "semi-arid" in parts of our state. I think a lot of people don't consider the long term and hidden cost of some plant species.

      that is BS. California's water problems are entirely due to allowing too many damn toilets while never allowing any new water retention to be constructed. agriculture WAS the back bone of California's economy but the liberals hate AG because too many republicans HAD ag businesses in the state now 3/4 of our rural towns are full of defunct ag businesses and homeless encampments. the libs love "big tech" and big tech wants toilets and they wont stop until the entire state is one giant toilet for them to shit in....the job is about 75% done imo.

    English walnuts are grafted on to black walnut root stock because English walnuts have a weak root stock.
