@turbopokey sure but a lot of folks are finding it harder to buy and, with a septic system, I was told to be careful not to use 'too much' - whatever that is🤷♀️
@@CleaningHowTo I found some at the store and didn't make it. First thing I tried was my air fryer. I had to replace the tray as the teflon flaked from scrubbing. I just soaked it in the washing soda and it rinsed clean. I was absolutely amazed--no scrubbing at all. I eat a keto diet and cook a lot of meat in the air fryer, and this just made cleaning up 100 times easier! Thank you.

On one of your videos when you mixed baking and vinegar a retired chemist explained why they don't work together well. However that mix appears in many home cleaners videos. I feel that something must work or is it just the fizz that everyone likes???
If you think washing soda is a great degreaser, dissolve some in hot water and add it to bacon grease in a jar. Shake vigorously. Note that none of the grease dissolves.
I haven't seen any of your videos on unclogging kitchen drain due to grease, but you did mention it here, do you follow with hot water? Dont you think it is better to dissolve the soda before releasing it into drain?
@@CleaningHowTo I have read that an opened baking soda loses it's effectiveness in a few weeks, is this unstability true for washing soda aswell in the context of cleaning and unclogging grease? That would not be so cost effective 🤔

Can you tell me the difference between baking soda and cleaning soda? Have you ever tried Bar Keeper's Friend? It's non-abrasive. I have a lot of brass and one item is a tray table from India my great aunt passed down to me and all I have to use is Bar Keeper's Friend, water and a cloth/rag.
The active ingredient in Barkeeper’s Friend is Oxalic Acid, which is a very effective metal polish. Be advised that according to the company that makes Barkeeper’s Friend, there are abrasive particles in all of their products except MORE Spray + Foam.
You can "boil" it on the stovetop too. Put the baking soda/sodium bicarbonate in a pot on med-hi heat and stir until it stops "bubbling". But I have heard that you need to bake it for an hour at 350F, stirring every 10 or 15 minutes. The baking soda must be heated to at least 200F to change into washing soda/sodium carbonate. Hope that helps
@@CleaningHowTo well done, mate. My mum was a professional cleaner and she always used non-toxic chemicals. We even brushed our teeth with bicarb, couldn’t afford toothpaste.

Thank you for this video!!! I didn't know that is all you had to do to turn it into washing soda. It's pretty cool!

We can still buy washing soda in the supermarket. It's generally bought by old ladies (like me) who use it as laundry booster
I guess that makes me an old lady too cos I use it, and vinegar in rinse cycle :P
What about Borax? I thought that was supposed to be the good detergent booster.
@turbopokey sure but a lot of folks are finding it harder to buy and, with a septic system, I was told to be careful not to use 'too much' - whatever that is🤷♀️
And so cheap its not worth using fuel to convert bicarb.
Just found your channel. I'm going to do the grout & tub after I make my own washing soda. Thank you!
Awesome - let me know how you get on :)

Great vid! What effect does baking the baking soda have?
Thanks!
Awesome, thank you :)

I’m curious how baking baking soda changes it. That’s crazy to me!
How many degrees ?
oh cool! thnks for tip
No problem - try it it’s awesome 😄

Folks assume it's working hard because of the fizz and then make excuses for having to rub hard because the mixture is 'natural'
Just the fizz. Must illicit a dopamine response because it does nothing else!
If you think washing soda is a great degreaser, dissolve some in hot water and add it to bacon grease in a jar. Shake vigorously. Note that none of the grease dissolves.
How thick a layer of baking soda do you use to ensure it becomes washing soda? I can imagine that being too thick would limit the reaction.
Once it all gets to temperature it doesn’t matter :)
I haven't seen any of your videos on unclogging kitchen drain due to grease, but you did mention it here, do you follow with hot water? Dont you think it is better to dissolve the soda before releasing it into drain?
washing soda and hot water will unclog grease :)

Does the type of pan you use matter? I have a stainless steel baking pan. Also does it expire?
+Belli- Bell any pan is fine, and the powder will slowly turn back into baking soda over time as it reabsorbs h2o.
@@CleaningHowTo thank you
What cooks out??? Soft or acid???
I put the baking soda in the oven however when I it out of the oven to use, when I add it to a liquid it turns rock hard. What did I do wrong?
Crush it up a bit first. I also sieve the hard residue when mixing :)
Do use any under the sink cleaning products any more?

Washing soda is really good to clean nicotine from surfaces, furnitures etc. It removes the bad smell.
Works on soot too :)
Are you making the washing soda using bicarbonate of soda?
And Is the washing soda also called soda crystals
Yes I am and yes they are.

Washing/cleaning soda has a higher ph so it’s better for cleaning basically.

Why not just use a high alkaline water as a base to mix with the soda instead of baking it?
