    I always use the smallest hose as it will fill with liquid and be wasted when you finish.

    I like the idea and the supplies you bought. Exchange cylinders are convenient but not cost effective.
    One supplier told me (so not gospel) that some exchange cylinders are not filled to the 85% level so you pay more for less.

    What you should do is get an empty tank weight, fill it from your tank and weigh again and compare that to a brand new exchange tank from the store. That way you know how close your getting to a store bought tank.

    Keep in mind, when you exchange a cylinder, you only get 15 lbs of propane, not the full 20.

      Funny, I measured 12-14 lbs last time I exchanged tanks at Lowes with Blue Rhino. I will take my scale with me next time and make them get a full tank. I've complained to the idiots before to be lied to that 15 lbs is 80% capacity. I filled tanks in an RV park (5-50 30lb tanks per day) and was trained by the state propane commission. Costco was sued for underfilling tanks several years ago.

      Exchanged my 2 tanks at home Depot today. 12.62 lbs in one and 15.14 in the other

    As for the return on investment, not having to load tanks up and drive them into town, wait for them to come out and fill it the whole time driving around with a large BLEVE in that back of your truck has some value to it.

      My propane supplier has no issue with this set up. He moved this propane tank to our new house last fall and made sure it was accessible to fill tanks. So far it’s been a huge time savings. We extensively use a weed burner for the edges of our flower beds so we go through lots of tanks every summer.

    One issue I see is that your filling your tank from the top of the storage tank. Does your storage tank have a tube to the bottom from that valve?

      Obviously... that's what a 'liquid line' is.

      It was a seller on eBay that I worked with. I went back and looked and couldn’t find the sellers name on any of my paperwork. Just too long ago to find anything.

    I fill my own tanks, lp lawnmower, grill tanks, etc., and have been told all kinds or lies about why I can't do it. everything from federal law to just policy. If I can do it at work, I can and will do my own.

      how do you tap the tank?

    • @kelvinpoole7013
      @kelvinpoole7013 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gman8760 I use the appropriate adapter with a gas valve and screw it into the liquid withdrawal port on the tank. There are basically two types of withdrawal ports, one uses an Oring seal, the other is a pipe thread seal. by using the correct adapter with a gas valve you can tap just about any tank. make sure that you screw the valve and adapter together before you try to put it on a tank. mmrbeef appears to have a valve already screwed into the liquid withdrawal port.

    I've been using 46kg cylinders...dragging them to the refill station once a month....ready to install a larger permanent tank. I just need to run a line from the tank location to the street, where the tanker can connect and fill. What type of fill valve do I need to install? ...How do I protect it from street rats?

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  ปีที่แล้ว

      You would need to talk to your LP supplier about the valve. Valves and regulations are county dependent. You should be able to put a lock on the valve in some manner.

    My LP retailer insists on 9 years age from the rebuild date on the tank. If it is older than that he will not fill it and must do an exchange. Did yours say the same thing?

    • @scowell
      @scowell 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's the law... that's when you take the tank to the grocery store and trade it in. I've had a tank re-certified... it's a PITA and not worth it for the 20lb ones. Nobody cares at the grocery store... they'll take just about anything if you paint it first.

    Does your big tank need to be empty when you install the hose?

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, the liquid valve can be shut off. You just need to hook the hose up to the liquid valve when you need to fill cylinders.

      If you already have the liquid valve your fine, but if you don't and you lease your tank you're going to be out of luck. They won't let you do it for liability reasona
