Yes! I always do this and often get sent a 10 or 15% off code to encourage me to check out! My favourite face powder is by Chantecaille and is so expensive but once a year in the last week of July they have a 30% off everything sale for the founder Sylvie's birthday. Pat McGrath has great black Friday/cyber Monday sales. I so rarely pay full price for my makeup and skincare. If I do have to pay full price then I buy from somewhere like Cult Beauty or Boots where I'm at least earning points for money off in future.

Yes! I get so many coupons after I put a few things in my cart and then leave it, usually later that day or the next they send a 15-20% off coupon code to my email! I always sign up for emails from brands and get alerts when they have sales! I have scored several of the $125 Pat McGrath palettes for $70 to $80 because I got an email they were having a 35% off sale or a 40% off sale etc! Sure it’s convenient to order from Ulta or Sephora since you can buy several different brands at once but it’s usually cheaper to order directly from the brands site, and most offer free shipping with a minimum purchase of $25 to $50 and most offer free samples or free full size gifts too! I’m all about saving a few bucks lol! 💕

@@aimeeduff8000 that's about what I paid for my Motherships on the Black Friday sales. I also go direct to some brands for better discounts and freebies. Ehhh their eye liner that twist up yes it works well is defiantly water proof like it claims but it still gives up a basic black rather that rich deep dark black, their pencils suck ass and their liquid eye liners have given me pink eye more times then I like to admit but wet n wild is good for their bronzers & matte lipsticks. I have a lipstick in a greyish purple colour that I can dab lightly on my lips before any other lipstick, cooling the tone dramatically and basically doubling the number of shades in my collection.
But my biggest saving (and as a disability pensioner I have a tiny make up budget) is NOT buying a cheap product until a few reviewers I really trust have said it's comparable to high end. A $3 or $5 product from Essence, Revolution, or e.l.f. seems like an inconsequential amount of money, but those brands are very hit and miss, so you can easily spend the price of a high end product and end up with a huge pile of make up you don't enjoy.

So many good tips, thanks Robert! I'd like to add also some other tips:
-buy a nice full coverage fluid concealer, and use it as a foundation or tinted cream by adding moisturizer or your fave hydrating primer
-buy just one clear gloss to make any colour you want, by using a lipstick shade with the clear gloss on top, or even mix them beforehand on your hand.
-eyeshadows can be used as blush/bronzer/highlights and vice-versa, the only thing that changes is the size of the pan.

but how much would you be spending on concealer + primer and how much would you be spending on just buying sone foundation? because the concealer (even thoigh is cheaper) would run out of product faster than the foundation.
And I would not recommend mixing moisturizer with concealer as you should have a skin care rutine and the last step is sunscreen, you're not suppose to add moisturizer on top of that. And if you do it could make you look greasy with moisturizer +spf (all have moisturising ingredients) + mosturizer.
      just my thoughts

    • @Neerepha
      @Neerepha ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@mile_851 sometimes, like in my case, foundation isn't enough to cover dark spots and pimples. I have pcos and it makes acne leave dark spots on the skin where the pimple was for longer than usual. Tricks, but also makeup in general, should be really tailored on yourself, so it's hard to predict if something works or not

Great video! I have heaps of money saving tips:
    - Use any lipstick as a cream blush (as long as it's a moisturizing lipstick and not a super durable matt one)
    - Your bronzer or contour can also be a neutral toned eyeshadow
    - Put makeup on your face first with a brush/fingers and only then use the sponge because it tends to absorb a lot of product.
    - Eye creams are just overpriced moisturizers!
    - Pretty much any clear hard soap can work as a brow gel, wet a spooly brush and try it.

I feel like eye creams are debatable, therefore depending on what your trying to use it for. I personally like them just for moisture and not necessarily for brightening or depuffing, my eyes are more sensitive so if I just use a regular moisturizer my eyes are kinda irritated in the morning because I use a heavier face moisturizer and like a light moisturizer for my eyecreams.

I always use reusable makeup remover cloths, so much softer on the skin and much cheaper than wipes! Another thing I do is use a black eyeshadow for liner instead of buying a liquid eyeliner, almost every palette has a black shade

James reviewed some reusable face cloths/ cotton pad replacements about a year ago (LastRound I think). They are just cut up Swedish dishcloths (Wettex, Vileda or knockoff). Same material (cellulose cotton), with same texture pattern (diamond on one side, ridges on other), but the expensive cut up ones have no print or colour. They work great. You can literally get dozen full sized dishcloths for the price of 7 little cotton pad sized.

@@Neenerella333 - I like the inkeylist oat balm cleanser because it’s really gentle and versatile. It comes in a half size and a full size tube. $5 & $10 respectively. Great value.
When I say gentle, it’s the only 1st cleansing product I’ve tried that doesn’t sting after exfoliating.
I use it for gritting and as a soothing mask when I get get carried away with exfoliating or if I get greedy with a new active.
I have been using it since winter. Started with the half size and bought two full size after that. It took forever to get through the half size so it’s really good if you have to budget.
Idk about water proof mascara but I no longer get ring around the lash line with regular mascara and long wear waterproof liner.
For the eye area let the balm do the work. Let it sit in your lash line for a bit before emulsifying and rinsing. That’s more gentle than if you rub hastily. That’s just my old lady advice because it’s a lot easier to break and pluck lashes than to grow them back.

    - make a list of items you want, but not by brand, but by description (ex: a wet highlighter w rosy undertone). That way you're looking for a single, specific product instead of anything that looks nice
    - tjmaxx/Marshall's/Boots(?) has lots of good, budget makeup products
    - watching weekly makeup news vids (s/o to Angelica Nyvquist, Audra at Home, SwaggyBeauty, and Theresa is Dead). It made me see how repetitive and cyclical releases are so I didn't feel tempted by anything!

My best money saving hack has to do with body lotions/creams. I love a scented body lotion, but most of them have a VERY strong fragrance. So I purchase a large container of an unscented, more affordable lotion. Then I mix a small amount of the scented lotion with the unscented, and I still get the wonderful aroma therapy.... but I'm saving a lot of money!

Your videos have already saved me so much money and tears of frustration! I was always using primer on my super oily skin and trying endless foundations with poor results. I just stopped using the primers and the ultra mattifying foundations this week. I tried foundation without primer (without fainting) and then nearly fainted because it looked so good! Also, I stopped the heavy powdering. You are the tonic I needed against all the hype!

LOL....I have wet&wild pallettes that are YEARS old, and they are still 100%! They are the same pigments, consistency, etc. The only things I REALLY worry about expiration with are creams/lotions, foundations. Unless something is obviously wrong with like a lipstick/gloss, they're fine. Mascara will dry out. Pencils will get harder to glide on. Honestly, exp dates on like powders and pencils are more for getting that repurchase, imo😂

Yeah. If it starts smelling like a play-doh, or separate, or change colours and consistency, you are usually good to go.

Omg yes to the wet and wild. I bought a highlighter pallete bsck in 2018 and I still have it. You don't need much and as long as your brushes are clean you won't ruin it.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the lipstick tip! Fantastic idea!!!! Thank you Robert 😘😘😘😘😘 my tip is a widely known one and that’s taking your full coverage matte foundations and mixing them with your favorite facial oil or moisturizer. Customizing what you already have. Or just mixing it with a tinted moisturizer or skin tint for more coverage. I know I have quite a few matte foundations that now I’m 48 don’t look as flattering on my skin so instead of throwing those nars soft matte and too faced matte foundations out , I sheer them out. Thanks again Robert!

I have learned a lot from watch your videos Robert and try to use all of the hacks and tricks you just talked about which has saved me from having to keep purchasing over and over. One thing I have done that I’d like to add to the list is I bought a rainbow eyeshadow palette so I have colors for whatever I’m wearing and if I don’t have a matching color then I can mix a little white or black until I get and exact or close enough match to the shade I want. It’s also a space saver as I don’t have to make space for several pallets. 😊

Being against consumerism is a big thing for me. Only essentials, preferably multipurpose, no gimmicks please. I discovered that I can make a good sheer lip color out of gloss and face paint, that kind of deal.

One of the best presents I received was a crayola makeup palette which contained a black and white and loads of other shades with a little mixing card - honestly it’s made mixing my own lip colours so much easier and stopped me buying different lip colours

BRILLIANT!! I’m happy to say that many of these tips have been in my personal arsenal for years. One add - I don’t use makeup every day, or even weekly. Therefore, I really don’t concern myself with expiration dates. My face, eyes and hands are ALWAYS spotless when I do, though. I base replacement time on scent, consistency and performance. Especially with mascara, as my faves are fairly high-end. Thank you, RW!!

Amazing video! I've been doing the mascara one for literally years I'm so pleased to see an actual MUA recommending it! What I'd do is put one coat with the new generic mascara wand and then immediately brush off the excess product with the fancy/high end wand. Works like a charm, some wands I've had for ridiculously long. I keep reusing them constantly while washing them regularly to make sure they don't get flaky or crumbly. All of these tips are amazing, absolutely love your content as usual, keep up the good work! 🌈🌿✨

Robert Welsh, thank you for keeping it real. This is the best makeup video I have seen, ever. You give us true makeup artist tips! 💜🖤💜

Another thing about pumping foundation directly onto your face is that it makes your beauty sponge absorb way more. Spreading it out across the skin in a thin layer before blending has stopped my blender from soaking up as much product AND it blends out much much nicer

Reusing your old (washed!) mascara wand which you really like is also less wasteful too. 😅
I second the cleansing balms! If you’re a lazy bum bum like me, emulsifying oil cleansers which washes off with water is GREAT. The korean brands oil cleansers are 🤌🏽
