I bought one of these Dior quints on recommendation (thankfully on sale and in neutral tones) and it's trash, despite the raves. Honestly, I do love luxury makeup, but there is a lot that I have bought on the recommendation of some of these beauty youtubers who review luxury makeup (who got it for free in PR, won't say who they are because they have a huge fan base and I will be attacked) and I was shocked at how bad it was. I felt duped and my trust in these people has gone down considerably. I rarely buy luxury anymore, unless it's a brand that I know has served me well in the past. It's just not worth the money. Luxury makeup can be worse than drugstore, but it's reputation is protected by fancier packaging and a hefty price tag.
Yess, I'm sometimes almost tempted when things like that blush are super hyped but videos like this bring me back to reality. It's usually either mediocre or just ok makeup hiding behind the hype and luxury price tag.

I am always so sus on really expensive, luxury items because I feel like they charge so much for the name. And also sus on really, REALLY cheap items because they will be full of crap and false promises. xD

I love Robert for how unbiased he is. He utterly bashed the eyeshadow pilot, but RAVED about the glow palette. He takes himself out of the brand stigma and/or popularity associated with it and reviews the makeup items PURELY for their quality and enjoyment.
Lets hope that doesnt change...

Yes! I fully support this suggestion! I watch all these videos and make mental notes about which products Robert prefers as well as which ones could work for me, but I often forget everything after five minutes. A comprehensive video laying out his top picks would be fabulous!

I think this would be a great video. Would you consider doing an updated brow video? I know in most instances you do your brows off camera unless you’re testing out a new brow product but I would love to know what are your current favorites are. My brows are really stubborn. They never stay in place and when I get a product that does hold they end up looking a little dusty or dull throughout the day.

Aside from that, Robert is such a breath of fresh air in the beauty community. He doesn't lie to us when products are junk, even if said product is expensive and "high end". I'm so glad I found this channel.

yes I bought one Dior eyeshadow quad when I was younger and I was shocked at how bad the quality was, especially for the price. it just seemed like clear markup for the name and a high end brand really has to wow me for me to buy anything from them now.
That undertaker packaging is also subpart. I literally have 99p china shop pallette that's better then this. All shimmer circus colors but they blend.
I agree! Makeup as expensive as any of these ultra luxury brands had better put itself on my face and take itself off at night. I bought a Dior mascara and it wasn't worth 1/4 of what I paid. I'll stick to my Collab and Essence mascaras.

To be perfectly honest, I didn’t even realize Robert needed a haircut. He always looks so amazingly well put together. I don’t even wear makeup, but I’m here for every video.
Right? I’m hard-pressed to think of a single instance that he looked anything less than perfect (apart from when James has done his makeup, or he’s followed a 5-minute crafts tutorial 😂).

Apart from the texture being terrible, the color of that eyeshadow did make your eyes look very nice. It brought out the brown so nicely :)

I was doing my friend’s makeup for her wedding (this was literally on her wedding day) and she had bought Dior eyeshadow and wanted me to use that. And it is awful!!! Had to try and save it with my own eyeshadows on top and it took like an extra hour… so horrible
But the Backstage highlighter palette is a whole different story! Use it everyday, I’m obsessed with it
I don't know what's more entertaining: how much Robert hated the eyeshadow, or how much he loved the highlighter.

Robert’s eyeshadow review explains the horrendous ads Dior is doing with the 80s eyeshadow pad stick. They’re so bad you have to use ancient makeup technology to move them around.

Robert is by far my favorite makeup artist and I have to admit I got so sad when he said "black and silver is so 2000!" As funny as it is, I still love a black and silver smoky eye for like new years eve or a special occasion 😭😭😭

Robert (and James) has such a calming voice and tone even when he's annoyed. It's like unintentional ASMR. I could listen to him and his brother all day.
Robert's reaction to the eyeshadow is how I react when something goes wrong at work. Also "I'm never going to move on emotionally" is a whole freaking mood. Felt the same way when I tried on a new tinted moisturizer and found out the wrong color had been sent.
You know Robert is serious about his work when he is getting stressed and sweaty because of his horrible eye makeup 🤣

That's how I felt it was! That line seems to be less focused on the luxury packaging and designs (veeery outdated version of that though lmao) and more on performance.

Really? They were super hyped up around 2014-2016 ish, the eyeshadow and the lipstick, everyone raved.
Maybe I was too young to realize 😂😂😂😂 It would be nice to see how the palette quality from those (since they have been out for a while) would compare to eyeshadows now, if they are still worth the pricing that they have now

The interesting thing about Dior is that their limited edition items, especially eyeshadow palettes, seem to miss more than hit. I'm actually surprised you didn't use some of the more popular items from Dior's regular line, like their forever skin concealer and foundation. In general their Forever and Backstage lines seem to be great across the board.

Dior has been in the eyeshadow game forever and they have no excuse for this. They do great mascaras and foundations, but their shadows are absolutely not worth it. I think the formulations have changed, too, because I used to love their shadows 15 or so years ago. Now I buy the Chanel quads if I want to be bougie - the color stories are relatively muted, but the shadow quality is great.

I really really like seeing him do such a dark eye bec I can see how he’s buffing out the edges and also bec it’s so patchy it’s like I can see his technique more so than when it’s a good shadow lol but the color brings out the brown in his eyes like glowing beautiful
You’re right! Because he had to work hard to blend the shadows it made it easier to see his technique.
The dark burgundy looked great because he’s a dark winter in seasonal color analysis. He looks best in dark jewel tone colors. I wish he would apply darker slightly cooler blushes and lips.
@@BbGun-lw5vi but my favorite part about this was when he said “yes I’m going to move on not emotionally but whatever” and I don’t know if he would do cooler toned blush and lips not even sure he blush and lip color on himself it lol I think he does that for our benefit.
