Does anyone have a vegan/CF alternative for Revlon's rum rasin? You know the popular 90s warm born lipstick.

Are you in the UK? I don't know that shade, but I love the new Superdrug's own brand brown lipstick. It's matte, and longlasting, but I think they might have a glossy one too. Revolution also had a collab with Soph Does Nails (now Soph does life) and their brown lipstick was beautiful.

I have the dupes!! The 2 that are vegan/CF came randomly in my boxycharm lol! Both look fairly different in swatches but are very close on my lips. Unfortunately my lip tone (very cool mauve rose) is probably not exactly the same as yours lol, but hopefully this will point you in the right direction: Ofra liquid lipstick in Canyon, which is much warmer in the bottle but, with a light-med application, looks like a matte rum raisin to me. And Complex Culture Pout Clout lipstick (a long lasting satin-to-matte that does not dry too much) in How Sway, which is a bit darker & browner than Rum Raisin but very similar look on me. Lol I've been doing paler stains lately, but now I m admiring these darker shades, this looks really nice with light spring eye & cheek makeup. Hope this helps, Ofra is $20, complex Culture is $24, but they were in boxes recently, so check Poshmark or Mercari for ppl reselling with better prices. Oh! I looked at Complex Culture's range of lip shades. good news - it looks like there are numerous possible dupes for Rum Raisin, and it is vegan/CF, and is a genuinely nice formula, just seems a bit pricey to my cheap self...
PS now I am admiring this How Sway shade, and noticing that I applied it full strength from the tube to my lips, and didn't need to blot or adjust it to get bold, deep color that does not age me (52, pale & splotchy, love dark lips but usually have to do them carefully). Might just be a perfect shade for me, but the quality actually does seem to be quite good, I may have just assumed that ipsy brands were over priced.

My terrible advice is that undereye concealer isn't always needed. Sometimes it looks better to have darkness under the eye. It adds dimension and in some makeup looks/face structures it balances the eye area nicely.

My terrible advice is to sometimes ignore your colour palette. I am cool toned. But sometimes I want bright orange eyeshadows! Sometimes I want pastels despite being more of a jewel tone person (or “winter”).
It’s okay to experiment with colours that aren’t supposed to look good on you, because sometimes you just want to wear something different and your confidence and excitement can be enough to make you look fantastic in those colours!

I have a few too. I've had no issues with them falling apart or not applying well. My favorite set (I bought 2) is from BH Cosmetics. It was done in collaboration with a guru who I've never heard of but since they were all eye brushes and it was a 9pc set selling for $7.99 at TJ Maxx I said why not. These brushes work so great for my eye shape. A month ago I picked up a few singles from Sigma. I just used 2 of them yesterday. One of them scratched the he!! out of my lids 😢 The other was just okay. I'm so glad I didn't pay full price for either brush because the experience everyone raves about when it comes to that brand was not what I experienced... 🤷‍♀️

My first makeup brushes were E.L.F. I've had no issues with bristles falling out, getting bent, etc. but several of my brushes have separated from their barrels. I am careful to washa dn dry them upside down, so I don't think it was mishandling that did it. Regardless, the brushes are still fantastic quality, and I don't mind having to glue the barrels back in enough to stop buying brushes from E.L.F.

As someone with light medium neutral olive skin I can say without a doubt, I have NEVER found a foundation that matches me perfectly straight out of the bottle. It’s either a touch too warm, or a touch too cool. I have been mixing my foundation for literally 40 years. When I buy foundation, I don’t get hung up on the undertone anymore, I just buy whatever, and then concoct my shade everyday. I just make sure the depth matches…and even then it’s like “meh” whatever, I’ll fix it at home.

My favorite "rule breaking" advice is using my fingers. I always 7se my fingers for my color corrector/concealer, highlighter, contouring my nose and for at least 1 step of my eyeshadow usually shimmer to pack it on. It works for me better than using brushes for certain steps but not all.

  • @ElenKarin
    @ElenKarin ปีที่แล้ว +36

I have two eyeprimers, one is slightly too pink, and one slightly too yellow - so I put one on each middle finger and rub them together so that I get the same shade on both fingers and then eyelids. They’re different brands and different formulas so I’m probably not supposed too, but it works😅

I came across the BEST primer by mistake the other day: I regularly moisturize my face with the Neutrogena moisturizer that contains hyaluronic acid, and I applied a bit too much. It left a bit of a tacky layer, so I skipped my primer and just did my makeup. My face didn't budge AT ALL that day! No creasing, cracking, nothing slid off. I was amazed!
Now, that moisturizer isn't cheap, but it definitely costs less than the Estee Lauder primer I was trying, and hating. And I can skip a step!

My terrible advice is if you’re going out at night and you’re already wearing makeup but it looks kinda bad, literally just put more on top. Like a full face (minus primer). Start with setting spray and use a sponge for liquids and creams so you’re disturbing everything else as little as possible, but for some reason it looks flawless and lasts all night 😅 I didn’t even get pimples from it unless I slept in my makeup… definitely do not recommend sleeping in 2 layers of makeup… honestly would love to see you try this 😂

I bought the essence original brushes. Like not the limited collections but their standalone brush line. And I have 6-7 of them. They're absolutely perfect and don't cost all that much. I've had some for close to 5 years and some are newer but they still perform amazingly. Super soft and work great. I have three eye brushes, and eyeliner brush I don't like as much (too fluffy in my opinion and not as platicky rigid) a concealer brush, a bronzer brush and a foundation brush. The others I own are an old Kiko flat brush and a Lottie London flat concealer brush. But essence wins this one. If you don't want to buy a full set that you may use only half of this is a great alternative.

Here's my advice. I have super dry skin everywhere except my eyelids and my forehead. After my serums, I apply raw cocoa butter all over my face (including forehead) and I top it off with lotion WITHOUT dimethicone. Anyting with dimethicone can pill or get patchy with makeup. 🤔You'd think you don't want more oil to oily areas like the forehead, but it works for me. As we know, oily skin needs moisturizer too!!
This allows me to skip primer. The cocoa butter moisturizes but makes my matte foundation stick sooo nice and not look too dry, giving a soft satin finish. If I use a dewy foundation over this base, it looks like glass skin when i use cream products🥰. I set either foundation with very little powder to prevent transferring and cake face. My makeup lasts up to 12 hrs in place!😊

You're super right about the eyeshadow multitasking for other areas. I'm Dark/Deep with under eye hyperpigmentation. Sometimes even with a CC beneath my concealer, a little darkness peeks through because I didn't let the CC sit long enough before blending. What I'll do is use a JudyDoll ORANGE powder blush that I picked up recently to lightly go over the darker peek through. K/J Beauty products are often a little sheer and takes a heck of a lotta build up for folks in my complexion range.
This helps me do a little color correcting without worrying about disturbing the layers of makeup I've already applied which is what has happened when I've tried to apply a little more cream concealer over setting powder.
An orange eyeshadow or blush from US/UK brands are too pigmented for this trick to work but the K/J Beauty stuff has been very handy for the last few months for me!

I've said for years that I wish companies would bring out foundations in very small bottles for half the price, and allow us to mix our own. I know lots of companies have been grilled in the past for not coming out without enough of a shade range (especially deeper skin tones!!) but if a company brought out 30 shades, from almost black to almost white in a neutral tone, and brought out separate undertone mixers in like a P Louise-style squeezy tube, I would absolutely buy them. I know this isn't convenient for everyone but I feel like it would be good for people who struggle.

I'm so oily that I usually just wash my face, moisturize and by the time I'm done putting my body lotion on...my face is ready for foundation. It has been the best for my oily, large pore skin. I blot a lot less, the makeup stays in place way better and if I need to touch up it actually touches up instead of making it worse and sliding my makeup everywhere lol. That was solid advice right there! 👍

I love you advice staying eyeshadow palettes can contain your ideal highlight and contour! I literally lost everything I own after losing stable housing, including my giant case of makeup (I literally had a toothbrush and and the shirt on my back).
After I was able to buy some essentials I found tarte's Amazon pro remix palette on sale for a couple bucks (it was released 4 or so years ago) to use in the meantime...I found out (to my delight) the neutrals in the color story I could use for so many things! I use the matte black for eyeliner and mix it with the light brown for a perfect eyebrow powder. I also use the light brown as a contouring shade. I use the lighter pink metallic as a highlight and use the matte cream color in my waterline a nude liner and use it (sparingly) to set under eye concealer...I would have never thought how versatile eyeshadow can be with a little creativity,😁
Thank you, Robert, for the solid advice and for brightening up.my day 🖤🖤🖤

I was a loyal L’Oréal True Match customer for YEARS
until they suddenly changed the formulation and my usual shade not only became darker but is started to split and settle on my lines and my skin started to look bad. Then to make everything worse, I bought the concealer from Amazon and within an hour of applying it I had chemical burns under my eyes. It was so bad because I was on my way to a party and I didn’t realise until I got there and people were looking at me funny because my skin was becoming red, inflamed and sore. I checked and checked the seller and as far as
I could see, it was a genuine product. I also read that several people had similar reactions. It was the and only time that I bought cosmetics from Amazon, I’ll never know whether it was a fake or not.

Sheer orange lipstain is what shocks most people about my makeup routine (looks so flattering & warms up my cold mauve lips - I have cool lips & warm toned skin lol), but it is getting more "normal" here. My other old "bad advice" move was burn-bronzing with blush, which used to shock my friends or fellow gym-goers, but now it's very standard. And I've been doing subtle little eyeliner wings to widen my eyes for 20 years, back in 03 that was also considered very weird. Lol my "normal" routine used to be very odd, but most of my one-of-a-kind techniques are regular now, which is kind of a bummer, tbh, but that's probably a character flaw in me. I can't even pull a "I'm not like other girls" anymore 😂

So I've been cutting back on my prep, sometimes just doing a serum and some hydrating lotion on my dry areas and it's actually really helping. I think I might need some more help with getting my foundation to stick to my nose but the most helpful thing I've found so far, surprisingly, was a thin layer of eyeshadow primer lol.

My bad advice is to avoid buying blushes all together, especially if you are on a budget. Use your eyeshadows instead of powder blushes, use a fluffy blush to pick it up, work it a little on your hand to diffuse the pigment then apply it on your face lightly building it up. Instead of a cream blush buy one of those cream face paint palette (UCANBE has a good one that is also affordable), this way you can even customize the colour of your blush by mixing different colours (this is also a great way to practice colour theory if you struggle with It!) and you can use the same cream palette to customize your foundations, to colour correct, to cream bronze/contour, etc..
For best application i recommend either a small dense brush or one of those flat sponges/applicators (the ones popular in Kbeauty that you often find in cushion foundations), either way you should tap to diffuse and check the product on the back of your hand before applying on your cheeks, then blend it with your base.
Aaand this is why I never bought a blush in my life but my cheeks always pop✨

I've always done this, as well as use lipstick or lip liner. Even as oily skinned girl, I think powder blush is too limited in what you can use it for to be worth the price. And if you buy a shade you don't like, it's such a waste. At least with the other things you can adjust the tones as needed. Much harder to do that with powder blush

Once in while we went terrible advice. Lol
I have to admit there are times were I can not put out a large amount of money at once.
One time I was desperate for new brushes, & purchased inexpensive brushes.(to use on myself)
They worked great. I knew thought they would not last as long. So I was
Actually more gentle when cleaning them.
They lasted to my liking around 7or 8 months. Because they were not expensive, I was able to buy them again.
I think when people buy expensive produces, they are organically gentle with it. Recently so because they put out a lot of money.
I think if we keep that in mind for inexpensive products, to more gentle because they are not as well made.
    They can last longer.
    Just a thought and opinion😉💕

For me I am a neutral with a dash of warm like 85% neutral and 15% warm. So many foundations even those that say neutral are yellow or a literal salmon peach shade on me. And warm is too warm. Likewise I find that the lightest neutral or warm are too dark and not the same shade of their cool toned options, its like they think that all pale people are cool toned. I need milk coloured shade as i am so pale but i need that warmish neutral undertone otherwise i look ill. Your point about conclear, i feel personally i skip it as the shadow or darkness creates depth to the face and structure. And due to texture and movement under there concealer doesnt look nice, i also remark to myself that i looked better without then with. But my personal style is alt, grunge, goth vibe so having tired looking eyes fits well.
