    I think a lot of people ( myself included) forget what real skin texture looks like and looks likes under makeup. The same with “lines/creasing” it’s not creasing it’s one’s eyes natural lines and movement. With blurring and filters and being online we can forget what makeup looks like on top of skin. It isn’t cakey it’s normal texture of the product.

      I legitimately spent so many years thinking I wasn't good at makeup because I couldn't get my skin perfectly smooth and flawless and my eyeshadow never seemed as vibrant and perfect. Turns out it was mostly photoshop and filters and I'm not too shabby

    Ok but adding in an unusual shade to your foundation to practice laying it down evenly is actually kind of brilliant. This would have helped me so much when I was first starting/trying to figure out how much product to use.
    Also the deodorant thing. I was screaming "GIRL NOOOOOOOOOOO" the whole time. Not only because I didn't think it would work, but it was used??? and not by her????? girl nooooooo

      Deodorant is just concentrated fragrance. Antiperspirant, while it can also have fragrance, contains aluminum chloride (or similar chemical) that block pores so they don't produce sweat. I've used antiperspirant under my makeup in certain areas (upper lip, forehead) to keep my makeup from sweating off and it does work. I have sensitive/ reactive skin and I've not had a problem with it. But I also use fragrance free so... 🤷‍♀️

    I'm so happy to see a powder eyeliner!! I had clients angry with me because I pulled out powder or gel and an angle brush to do eyeliner instead of liquid! And then when I ask if they want to do their own liquid liner they say they can't and I end up teaching them that same technique as shown in this video. @@rigginsrallygirl You can do a V shape sideways; that is what I have been doing since university. Just look straight forward into the mirror and do whatever angle suits your eye shape upwards and outwards. Pretend that the hood is not there. Color over the hood basically. Then, when you lean backwards or close your eyes a bit, retouch the color on your hood to look intentional, symmetrical on both sides. It should look like a sideways V shape. I hope this makes sense. 🤓 By the way, I use a kohl pencil and go over it with a black eyeshadow to set it. Very forgiving, especially if you have Q tips and some cotton pads around.

    The fake tan contouring hack is great in theory, but I just know if I tried it, I'd be giving myself orange cheeks. I'm pasty and cool-toned so fake tanning stuff (and bronzer tbh) never looks believable on me. On the other hand, the awesome eyeliner lady just gave me a confidence boost and I may have to give eyeliner another shot after her tutorial!

    • @feelthejoy

      I’m cool toned too and very fair, but I have used the fake tanner as contour hack under my chin/on my neck, to define cleavage, and in the “notch” at the bottom of my calves. Dancers have been doing this for years.

    • @LunarEleven
      @LunarEleven 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have seen fake tan or henna used to make incredible fake freckles but I don't think it's that great for contouring on most people, maybe highlighting in small areas you normally bronze (where the warm tone is good) but then again most people are putting foundation on anyway so it would get covered.

    I remember reading (years ago) a tip on stopping sweating on the face was to use spray antiperspirant on it before putting on the makeup. I've always been a head sweater more than pits, so I tried this, and it does work - a sweat gland is a sweat gland. My skin has always been on the dry side, and oils are not the problem, but the sweat. I didn't use this trick that often, and I haven't done it in years, because I figured it can't be very healthy to spray aluminium on your face, and eventually I decided that instead of trying to have a perfectly made-up face on a hot day, I'll just go make-up free and stop worrying as much.

    I love how you physically demonstrate how lighting rigs appear to change skin textures. It's so annoying how some people will gas on about how their textures will magically vanish with some overpriced powder or primer. It's not a camera filter, true, but it's still not being completely honest.
    I wish the eyeliner tricks worked on me. I have so little visible lid space any but the tiniest amount will take over once my eyes are open.
    I'd like to know what you think about people mixing their foundations with their sunscreen to make custom tinted sunscreen. I'd be hesitant, because I'd worry that it would either mess with the efficacy of the SPF, or worse, not stay put because it blends poorly with the foundation formula.

    • @semoremo9548
      @semoremo9548 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm clearly not Robert, but if you want my two cents on the matter, I feel like why not just put on sunscreen and then foundation after? It's going to make you look the same, and that way you wouldn't risk messing with the efficacy of the SPF, which idk if that's a real thing that can happen or not, but it's better to be safe!

It is making the industry alot of money however it is also creating a newer beast of unrealistic expectations at a much faster rate with this short form content format. I have always used my hands for foundation until 2020. I use a brush now because I love not getting my hands dirty these days. Using my hands and fingers was still the best way!

    I worked in luxury skincare for quite a while, and I loved the mantra we used of “underpromise, then overdeliver” at my most recent company, in terms of results. I was always a big proponent of explaining things as you do-“if there was a guaranteed solution to xxxxx problem (wrinkles, dark circles, etc.) and we solved it, that would be literally all we sell. But here’s what will help improve it..”

    It is hilarious that we have been told or conditioned that we can’t use our fingers to apply makeup! I’m only 47 but I have always used my fingers to apply foundation, only recently have I been ‘encouraged’ to use tools. Fingers are tools! 😂 Fantastic marketing for the requirement for these tools.

    Honestly, I kinda prefer and angled brush sprayed w some setting spray and a dark eyeshadow to liquid liner. I end up w much sharper points that way than w a liquid liner, plus the brush has held up for years, meanwhile those felt tips end up losing their sharpness before they lose their pigment.

    I've often debated trying out a light wash of aluminum anti-perspirant as a primer to see if it would decrease oil production where my makeup breaks down the fastest (although I don't have the nerve to actually do it, as I'm sensitive to baking soda and don't want to risk aggravating my skin), but NEVER have I thought deodorant could serve as a substitute for powder. That's just illogical!

    The liner tiktok had me cracking up. I can't do liner to save my dang life. You're exactly right with how everyone always does "beginner" tutorials for it and just swipe it on. It's like um hello sunshine this isn't helping me lmao 😂🤌

    Hey as a friend who sweats PROFUSELY from the hairline, I have OFTEN put antiperspirant on my face - but my OWN antiperspirant and one that doesn't touch my pits 😂😂😂😂
    If botox weren't so expensive I'd have had my hairline done years ago (not for wrinkles, I like my wrinkles - but it also stops sweating)

    My first eyeliner was a tricky liquid liner. At some point I started using a thin little brush and a dark eyeshadow instead and I find it much easier. Liquid eyeliners are great for a sharp look and may be a better option for longevity, but they're harder to use and it's harder to fix mistakes in my experience
    Plus I personally don't really want a sharp or dramatic look so I'm not bothered
    Eyeshadow is easier to get a softer/lighter look which I find works better with my features/coloring

    Although I don't do it now as I'm too lazy and I have a ton of great brushes, I cannot advocate for using your fingers to do your foundation enough (if you don't have really long nails). As a student, the minute I got my student loan, I went straight to the Mac counter and got matched for foundation but when the lady tried to upsell me a foundation brush (which was expensive), I politely said thanks but no thanks. She didn't take offence and just said I could use my fingers. I did so for about 3 years straight with no issue and got compliments on my skin constantly. BTW my makeup routine hadn't even developed yet then and it consisted of just eye brows, foundation and face powder. The only thing I'd say is to wash tour hands before application and after or keep a wet wipe next to you because there's a high chance you'll stain something with your hands.
