The first point is related to diet. Balanced meals should contain sufficient carbohydrates, protein, fat, and fibre. Ensure your protein and fibre consumption is high and your carbohydrate and fat consumption is low. Portion control is critical. Protein should be in every meal in moderate amounts.
Counting carbohydrates and consuming them in moderation is essential. For example, if you consume roti, sabzi, dal, and rice, limit the quantity of rice if you enjoy roti more and consume dal in the right quantity (150-175 grams). Your diet will be proper, balanced, and nutritious with a bowl of vegetables or Raw salad.
It is also essential to take meals at regular intervals, with fixed meal times for lunch, breakfast, and dinner. In between these times, include a mid-morning snack and an evening snack. This helps prevent unnecessary spikes in sugar levels.
The second point is related to Exercise. Exercising is also important, but not too heavy or heavy weight lifting. Instead, do aerobics or cardio for a few minutes but not too much that it gives unnecessary stress to your body and is tiring. If you prefer not to exercise, consider adding physical activities like dancing, going to the gym, swimming, or cycling. Maintaining physical activity for 30 to 35 minutes daily is beneficial for your overall well-being and diabetes.
Thirdly, it is essential to take medications regularly. Follow up with your doctor to adjust the dose of any medication. Do not increase or stop it without your doctor's advice.
By following these points, your sugar levels should remain under control.
To check if your blood sugar levels are under control, get an HbA1c test done every three months. The HbA1c test provides an average of your blood sugar levels over the last three months, helping you understand your body's maximum sugar level. This approach can help prevent serious diseases like diabetic nephropathy, diabetic neuropathy, and diabetic retinopathy.
