Jake you're brave. Letting the locals pick out what you eat. Learning the names of the foods you've tried would or could be a real task. People are everywhere. The street vendors must do well. Street foods have a tendency to be very tasty. And it seems to be quite affordable. Enjoy. You are as I was as a young person, fearless. I never met a stranger. I'd say the oranges are all flown in from the states maybe? Are these places open twenty-four hours? If not, do they lock up at night? What you bought from one of the vendors kind of looks like an eggroll, Indonesia style. By the looks of things you also like to eat fruit. One needs vitamin C. So what time of day you go on your trek around this city and when do you call it a day? Good for you too that you find people that speak enough English to help you get what you want and need. Have a good night, Jakie! Love, grandma. Last question for the day: Is there food spicey? And what have you found to be the best tasting. feel full and ready to go on about your way.
Hi Sally, locals is here. I will help to answer your question: The oranges perhaps may be flown in from the states, but it's sure that it's imported. No, these food market don't open for twenty-four hours, they all have different opening times during afternoon-midnight, I'd say most of them start to prepare their stall from 4pm-12am. Most of them using are using mobile cart to bring their materials, but if not they will only leave the display rack and bring the rest of materials home. The "eggroll" is called Gehu, it's basically a fried tofu with vegetables inside, usually beansprout, cabbage, and carrot. I assume Jake visited the market around 4.30pm, here in Jakarta the sun will be set on 6pm. I would say "Nasi Uduk" not really spicey for tourist compared to others Indonesia local food. Just make sure to ask the seller to reduce the sambals here. Hope this help you Selly, cheers!
OMG.. You are kind person.. So much respect... Maybe for you the price is cheap.. But for seller is a lot.. If you ask 'how much rupiah'.. You can tell 'berapa harganya'... pedas mean spicy.. Sugar mean gula and Sweet mean manis.. Enjoy Jakarta
you picked a very good starter for streetfood. Nasi Uduk Betawi is definitely good choice. However, Nasi Uduk Betawi is usually considered as breakfast meal though. Youve got quite cheap price because it was only breakfast-size portion. For lunch and dinner, people usually preferred larger portion of Nasi Uduk with a lot more side dishes.
Wow that must be very spicy but it looks so good! Maybe go to the mall for some AC for a min. Also overwhelming but what an experience, I'd be carrying a yogurt with me for the spice lol. Thank you Tater. You give a real experience on your channel. It's so real :)

The first dish you had was called Nasi Uduk, a traditional Betawi meal served for breakfast, and sometimes dinner. Its a rice cooked in coconut milk and aromatics. What you have around the rice are; Telur Balado, a boiled and then deep fried egg and cooked in a spicy red sauce; and Semur Jengkol, although its notorious for its pungent smell, but its texture similar to a boiled peanut, its a favourite dish for many Indonesia, its simmered in this sweet soy sauce hence why its dark in colour. The second dish you tried on the red stall was Gorengan or just assortment of deep fried foods. The second one is Tahu Isi or deep fried tofu filled with vegetables. I hope you enjoy your stay in Jakarta! Cheers!

Hi Tater, cool videos! Just one tip in speaking english in Indonesia, make it shorter and maybe sound a little broken in a way. People will have a better time understanding you. Most people know a few key words in english and can communicate that way. But, a full blown very polite american english sounds like noises most of them time. I had trouble communicating using American English when I’m in Asia. Segmented sentences work better.
I feel like I wanna help you to translate 😂. Anyway, I recommend using google translate and stuff to communicate, so it's gonna be faster to understand among you and others.
Since you in Jakarta I highly recomend to try Soto Betawi it's authentic Jakarta tradisional dishes, but you should try in restauran not in the street food. Also if you like chicken try Chiken Rechess it's like Indonesian KFC but more delicious and spicy.

Indonesia is heaven for food, we like savory, sweet, sour, salt ... etc but also hell for ur health .... aniway, most tourist from europe and US, usually try "Gado-gado" (healthy vegetable with peanut sauce), "Martabak" (one of best dessert, and yes it sweet), chicken satay, beef rendang (this menu from "Padang" restaurant) ...
"Trying not to get murdered" thats blown me away.. 🤣 if u wanna try the best inexpensive veggie salads, gado-gado is the best ones mates. U should try es cendol for sure
i think it's better you take the change of small amount of money (from the nasi uduk lady, for example), so when you buy something cheap, you could pay using that small amount of money. i am afraid the street food seller has not a change from a big amount of money. That nasi uduk (08:00) made from coconut essence. 24:57 yes that is ToFu filling with vegetables
Here are some useful Indonesian words and phrases in case you wonder what do they mean Berapa? = how much/how many? Apa? = what? Siapa? = who? Kenapa? = why? Bagaimana/gimana? = how? That brown round flat thing is jengkol (jank-call) it's a stinky bean or some kind of tree nut, taste good when you know how to cook it, but the bad thing about it, after you eat it, caused your mouth and pee( and poop 💩 too)stink like after you eat an asparagus, exactly similar, but the stink bean smell stronger and last longer too, don't forget to eat some mints or Mentos after 🤣.

I hope you enjoy your stay in Jakarta! Cheers!
Good on you dude......brave man!!!
you should go to some jakarta tours
Like Monas
Kota tua
China town pik
Amsterdam in the pik . area
Dufan
Taman mini Indonesia indah
Bundara hi
And others. You can search on the internet
And you can visit all over Indonesia
Like Bali
Jokja
Labuan bajo
Mataram
Bandung
And others. You can search on the internet
And I saw many contests visiting Indonesia. Like Yuna nuna, akang Daniel , laki laki Korea These are from Korea, and some are from Europe, some are from Arab, some are from Malaysia, some are from Bangladesh and Pakistan, some are from Japan. All that I have mentioned are some of the ones that create content for visiting Indonesia. And you are now one of them.
go to place with more nature view next?
>bukit lawang
>Kali Biru (Blue river)
>komodo island
>Lake Toba
actually, that is great idea!
let the locals pick what you eat. brilliant man.
What a great vlog, anyway the fried things you ordered are cireng isi and gehu pedas, the first you eat is cireng isi made of tapioca starch and filled with spicy chicken or sausage, and the second one is fried tofu that filled with spicy veggies (carrot and beansprout and sometimes they also use rice noodle/vermiceli as the filling)
Id love to see this kind of videos more!!
😂😂😂 laughing and laughing during watching this video. Mad house.. war path and at the end you bought a super hot tofu!!. That's Indonesia sir!! 😅
Anyway thank you for visiting Jakarta 🙏
Interesting to see Jakarta from the perspective of a foreigner. Enjoy your visit, sir!
Nice im from indonesia thanks for visiting our country 🎉
Nice video mate! I heard you stayed in Cool Living? I’ve stayed there last week and got a mixed feeling about it, but overall it was fine. Would like to hear your opinion about it, maybe in the next video?
It was decent! I stayed in a double bed though. The internet was good, but there was practically no space. It's hard to work on my laptop there. Also, I had hot water once, but not again lol
Maybe like 6/10, because the price was decent
@@tatertravels there's 2 capsule hotel near this area. One is right across the east lobby called Whiz Capsule. The other one is Passgo , a newer one Located a kilometer from this grand indonesia. Safe travel bud.
Hi tater, i am your new subscriber, i like the way you interact with local people. Hope you enjoy your time here in indonesia
Dont forget for always using "magic hand" when you crossing the road 😜
bro you can visit Jogja if you want to feel an amazing atmosphere. it just amazing, i want to see you feel the 'Javanesse' culture
That fried square thingy that you ate is actually spicy tofu :D with vegetable fillings
I genuinely love your interaction towards the locals hahaha XD
You can try go to skywalk Senayan park of Jakarta, and central park skywalk of Jakarta ❤️🇮🇩🇮🇩👍
saya suka konten vlog mu,saya tak sabar menunggu vlog berikut nya😁
Selamat menikmati makanan Indonesia,yg buaanyaaak
Oh man really enjoy watching you eating
How sweet the young musician serenading him
He should pay attention that is special in our own country
That was so hectic and crowded. Please come to Malang or Batu city😊 everything will be cheaper and not that crowded
I feel like I wanna help you to translate 😂. Anyway, I recommend using google translate and stuff to communicate, so it's gonna be faster to understand among you and others.
That's potato fritters Tate, nasi uduk is rice cooked in coconut milk. Great video!
The second one is fried dough with filling (the filling can be various).. and the number 2 is fried tofu filled with bean sprouts and carrots
keep your natural vlog and I'm sure your channel will grow bigger
Since you in Jakarta I highly recomend to try Soto Betawi it's authentic Jakarta tradisional dishes, but you should try in restauran not in the street food. Also if you like chicken try Chiken Rechess it's like Indonesian KFC but more delicious and spicy.
Daaaang.. you ate the jengkols!... that's badass stuff right there... Jengkol is dogfruit.... It ranks as the same as durian... either you love it or hate it...I salute you Tater. Am a jengkol eater too.. words of advice... afterward make sure you do a mercy flush on the toilet after doing a #2... You can thank me later...;)

I love it you just wandering around not knowing anything and trying not to die 😂
i think it's better you take the change of small amount of money (from the nasi uduk lady, for example), so when you buy something cheap, you could pay using that small amount of money. i am afraid the street food seller has not a change from a big amount of money.
That nasi uduk (08:00) made from coconut essence. 24:57 yes that is ToFu filling with vegetables
love these videos man keep going ❤
Same.
If you have a more time in indonesia come to bogor.. its about 1hour-2hour with a car.. and about 1hour with a train...

Those fried pastry the half moon shape is empanada, just like Spanish empanada, the 2nd pastry is spicy vegies stuffed tofu (carrot, bean sprout, scallion & cabbage)

31:32 couldn't handle the Indonesian sweetness level 😂
wow nice foodie buddy .. yummy
Congratulations..you eat jengkol 👍🏼😁 those brown round things...
enjoy jakarta mr, we glad to see foreigners to come.
you just left with only rice dude. usually indonesian people eat the rice along with the different food, a mix of a little bit of everything on the plate. lol
If you need any help around Jakarta, I would gladly help you. It's kinda funny seeing how clueless you are on your vlog lol

Hi!Tater Travels stay safe God bless po from Philippines 🇵🇭
Thank you! God bless
Thank you for visiting Indonesia
"ThIS iS mY pRinCeS" that was the most fun part 😂😂😂
Btw, i see you eat jengkol 😱😱😱
Si gendut ngaku2 aja tuh orang😂
That brown round flat thing is jengkol (jank-call) it's a stinky bean or some kind of tree nut, taste good when you know how to cook it, but the bad thing about it, after you eat it, caused your mouth and pee( and poop 💩 too)stink like after you eat an asparagus, exactly similar, but the stink bean smell stronger and last longer too, don't forget to eat some mints or Mentos after 🤣.
Either your stomach is build like a tank or your stomach already acclimated with the food here.. Most westerners will get stomachache from the food, especially anything with ice and spicy things..
It looks like you bought pastel goreng (fried pastel/similar to empanada but fried and savory) and the other one is tahu susur or stuffed tofu. Hope this helped 😊
I ♥️ Jakarta Indonesia 👍
Hi Tater have fun even Iam not yet back to Indonesia (Jakarta) but see you there Iam glad...just want to clarified tha Gehu Pedas is spicy frieds and the price is 300 rupiah/pcs....3000 rupiah is combo so is becouse you ask for 2 thet mean 600 rupiah
The Tofu you ate was called Tahu Jeletot, the literal meaning is basically Smacking/Sharp Tofu... You know, because how spicy it is
Hi there. I have watched you TH-cam video while in Jakarta Indonesia. I love it. Anyway, if you have time would you like if I bring you to some good destination? Maybe around Jakarta hunting another good food (typical jakarta food) or maybe some destination in Bogor. I'm free on the weekend next week if u have time I will accompany you. Because I live and work nearby not too far away from this streetfood area
please upload regularly
You so kind
*sipping plain tea*
"I don't know what that is"
Lmao whyyyyy you so cute
