I've NEVER seen Anything like This - Jakarta, Indonesia 🇮🇩

  • I went on a foodie adventure on the streets of Jakarta, Indonesia with a mission to try some unique and tasty Indonesian food.
Along the way I saw something that I've never seen before in Jakarta! It was truly amazing.
As I headed towards the Blok M food street it started to rain, so I had to find somehwere to shelter. I popped inside Blok M plaza. It was an amazing shopping mall. It was so futuristic and modern I've never seen anything like it before.
But my quest was too try some authentic Indonesian street food. So I headed back out onto the streets to find some.
My first street food of the night was Indonesian chicken sate, with tusuk and a kind of keju dumplings. It was quite delicious. I really enjoyed the sauce that it came with.
The guys who ran the street food stalls were really freindly and welcoming to foreigners which was nice.
After that I went back into Blok M plaza because I spotted the famous J.CO donuts that you guys were suggesting I try. This was the first time that I'd tried them before. They were simply incredible. Way better than Krispy Kreme!
Then upon arriving at Blok M food street I found that it was already closing and there wasn't much food left. So I had to have an extra large Japanese Takoyaki ball.
It wasn't great. But I also found an Indonesian drink called Bintang which was really delicious!
After that I went back out onto the streets of Jakarta and found some ayam bakar. It was pretty nice Chicken with rice and tofu. But I was getting quite full.
I then need some kind of fruit juice and found an interesting avocado smoothie. It wasn't that great and I didn't end up finishing it.
I then got a tuktuk back to the hotel for one last snack of the night. The amazing Zap chocolate bar and Top bar. I believe they are both Indonesian brands, I really love them!
I would recommend if you want to visit Blok M food street you need to go there a little earlier than I did to catch all the tasty snacks and make sure not of the stores are closed.
This is my first time in Jakarta so If you're curious about Indonesia, or just want to see what all the fuss is about, be sure to check out this Jakarta vlog! Jakarta is an amazing city, and I just can't wait to explore and have many adventures across the region!

I ask a students when I went to South Korea and Japan. Its easier to find english speaker person in big city like Jakarta. you just need to try. Indonesians are very friendly people. they will try to help you even if they cant speak english. they just need to understand that you are lost/confused about things.

Iya, jangan seperti negara tetangga, yg suka klaim budaya indonesia. Wilayah indonesia luas, 17000 pulau. Jumlah penduduk 270 juta jiwa.

@@beautifulmoments7717

Hi Jason, thanks for coming to Jakarta, Indonesia. I like this video with positive vibes..
I just wanted to comment on the "tuktuk", in Indonesia we called it, "bajaj" (read, Bajai). According on what you payed, Rp. 100.000,- from Blok M to Ascott Kuningan Hotel; usually it's pay more than Rp 50.000,- because Bajai can't go through Jalan Sudirman due to the Highway code, so the driver need to make u-turn from another way, to avoid it. If you travel by car, it will be faster if you go through Jalan Sudirman from Blok M to Ascott Kuningan Hotel.
Conclusion, what you pay is not over-charge and also not too cheap. Why? 1. You took ride at night, 2. no traffic jam, 3. You got very experienced driver that knows the road very well and honest, you're so lucky bro. Well, that's just my two cents. Because the area that you took is the road I go since childhood hahaha (Blok M)...

Having also lived in Indonesia for several years,it perplexes me that their cuisine is not regarded as highly. It certainly deserves to be right up there with Thai cuisine(and others such as Italian and Greek). The variety, styles and flavours of the foods across the archipelago are totally amazing and are deserving of being up there with the best cuisines in the world,Enjoy bro😋👍

@@Jason-Travel Rendang is made of the beef, with coconut sauce (we call it Santan), red Chilli, and others spicy .
It taste very delicious and we can eat the rendang with rice.

@@Jason-Travel It is a beef dish. I recommend you to search a place with good rate cause sometimes you Will get a "rendang" that is too tough to eat it. (I think this is good advice cause no one want to struggle when they want to enjoy their food)

37:38 Didn't you already eat "Nasi Goreng" in the previous video at an Indonesian restaurant 😄. Oh yes, I want to tell you, if you are looking for something or are lost, don't hesitate to ask the people around you. Because Indonesian people are very polite and friendly towards other people ☺. Oh yes, one more thing, if you really want to taste sweet martabak but can't find it, just order via a driver application like Grab Food or Gojek Food. There will definitely be someone selling sweet martabak 😁

I love how honest the way Jason review about the public transportation and safety of the city, since he's British he understand the difference. Meanwhile big city in western country like London, Milan, Paris, New York tend to be sketchy and messy, and could be dangerous especially at night. A lot of pick pocket, robbers, scammers, homeless, crackhead, thugs on public place, etc. But since the prejudice of developing countries in the mainstream media while the media more romanticize famous western big city make people have bias opinion especially if they never visit or experienced it.

Let me sum up your street food hunting
5.34 - At the exit guide is written Gulai Tikungan Blok M (Exit C) you should try this food, it's one of the favourite night food-stalls in Jakarta.
The eatery offers a hot gulai kambing (curry goat meat) in a small portion. It's delicious yet really cheap
10.26 - Chicken Sate are commonly served with peanut sauce, yummy!
11.09 - It’s called Telur gulung (rolled egg), an egg is fried and rolled using a skewer which is usually made of bamboo
13.34 - That one is Dampling Keju (Cheese Dumpling) made from flour or meal bound with an egg and cheese inside
14.13 - Beef Enoki, made from enoki mushrooms wrapped in thinly sliced beef
23.55 - The guy next to you having a bombastic side eyes :D
26.06 - Actually you already found the Nasi Goreng (written on the booth) but instead of Nasi Goreng you ordered Ayam Geprek
30.56 - Again another Nasi Goreng booth
32.53 - It's not tuktuk, we called it BAJAJ, and the rate was fair enough, it is quite far tho
    Have fun in Indonesia!

I kept seeing you buying different public transport cards (and even the same ones multiple times), so here what you need to know:
    1. There are five bank cards, four (Flazz, E-Money, Brizzi, and Tapcash) could be used everywhere including at retail (Your favorite Alfamart and Indomaret), one (Jakcard from the Provincial bank) is at exclusively for Jakarta's public transport and tourist area such as Monas, Ragunan Zoo, and museums.
    2. KMT (otherwise known as kartu kereta or kartu KRL). Note that you could use your red KMT card for every public transportation in Jakarta, but you could only top it up on KRL stations. So be sure to have a balance of at least 15,000 IDR
    3. There are MRT "Jelajah Card" (Single trip). You don't have to buy it everytime, just reload the trip to your card on the machine.
So there you are. My recommendation is to use your KMT but don't forget to top it up
