"Dune is set in the distant future in a feudal interstellar society in which various noble houses control planetary fiefs. It tells the story of young Paul Atreides, whose family accepts the stewardship of the planet Arrakis. While the planet is an inhospitable and sparsely populated desert wasteland, it is the only source of melange, or "spice", a drug that extends life and enhances mental abilities. Melange is also necessary for space navigation, which requires a kind of multidimensional awareness and foresight that only the drug provides. As melange can only be produced on Arrakis, control of the planet is a coveted and dangerous undertaking. The story explores the multilayered interactions of politics, religion, ecology, technology, and human emotion, as the factions of the empire confront each other in a struggle for the control of Arrakis and its spice."
"Dune (titled onscreen as Dune: Part One) is a 2021 American epic science fiction film directed and co-produced by Denis Villeneuve, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth. It is the first of a two-part adaptation of the 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert. Set in the distant future, the film follows Paul Atreides as his family, the noble House Atreides, is thrust into a war for the deadly and inhospitable desert planet Arrakis. The ensemble cast includes Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem."

HAIL LORD HAVEN wonderful content as always.
👀 oh yeah
Please cover the Lynch version!
Nah
yes please ;-;
Jessica was real asf for choosing Oscar Isaac over the eugenics cult
Was horny af for sure
Now that you mention it, the "kicking a harkonnen so hard his heart explodes" scene should defo have been included
Also pleeease more dune content pretty please? (At least till we see your rendition of... you know... 🪱)
Yeah, I felt duped by that scene, I honestly thought he was gonna kick that deaf Harkonnen in the heart or at least get a good kick but he did a little trip and Jessica did the rest.
Gotta have that girl power.
Now don't get me wrong, the actual character could have done this and says as much to Paul in the book, but we can't have Paul show his prowess in a modern movie, he's the main character, but he is also a dude so.....
@@junusavior65it's because this paul isnt a killer yet, jamis being his first kill is important to the characters growth it has nothing to do with "wokeness"
Wrong, would have destroyed the jamis fight, it's called suspense but seeing as you had to go grab desert kous as your name Im going to say your thirteen year old mind can't handle suspense...
Who would win, a thousand-year-old eugenics program by an order of telepathic space super nuns or Oscar Isaac with a beard? The answer may surprise you
10,000 years at that lol. It’s 20,000 years in the future and the Bene Gesserit started out after the Butlerian Jihad.

Underrated comment about the new Dune films.💯👌🏾
I've been talking about the differences between book and movie with my brother, since he's never seen the movie or read the book 😂
how did it work out for you
Druknen Idaho!!!! Brilliant! So glad you're doing Dune.
I actually thought they cast Momoa coz he'd be awesome in that scene with Jessica but alas no.
Villeneuve's Dune - best movie quality wise;
SyFy's Dune - best adaptation of the material;
Lynch's Dune - best movie to watch when you're drunk or stoned (or both).
Lynch's Dune - best movie to watch when you're drunk or stoned (or both).
@@azmodanpc I agree with you completely. That's why it makes for such a nice trip.
StFy Dune was terrible.

The now 2 movies don't really portray how powerful Paul is and how is mind works. Obviously in a book we can be in his head. In a movie that's harder. But the way the book shows how Paul can notice and understand every single thing happening around him isn't done to the level that I was hoping for. In his fight with Feyd it just seems like a battle of skill. It doesn't begin to explain how Paul actually won that fight. I simply never truly felt the same sense of Paul being able to essentially read minds.
I honestly think they only really adapted about 10% of what real Dunatics wanted.
@@Sk4M_.RangeroftheNorth*Exactly!* I'm so frustrated with how little was actually a part of the movies. The most frustrating part of all is that DV's "Dune" was 55 minutes *longer* than the Sy-Fy channel's Dune adaptation. He had *more* screen time than anyone else had to devote to this story, and yet he covered *less* than Lynch or the Sy-Fy channel. Instead, he wastes so much screen time lingering in different scenery and close-ups of people's faces. It's insane how much waste there is.
@@NovusIgnis I don't know why but both films Just didn't feel the darkness and sinisterness the book conveyed. D.V. has tried to get the message across about charismatic leaders but left some of the lets say "magic" that is Dune, I mean the film are amazing but the book is just so much more and I love the SyFy versions. Anyone hankering for more Dune or what Messiah is about I recommend watching them, budget aside they're brilliant.
@@Sk4M_.RangeroftheNorth And you're being generous with that 10%.
The Herald of the Change ceremony is such a great addition by Villeneuve. It’s brilliant from a world building stand point and doesn’t beat audiences over the head with exposition. To make take such a complex universe like “Dune” make it understandable to a mainstream audience without dumbing it down is insanely difficult, and Villeneuve pulled it off. Absolutely genius.
He really didn't. He gave a watered down version of Dune, not the real Dune. The Spacing Guild is integral to the Dune universe, but they're mentioned *maybe* once, and never seen as a real presence. Even missing *just* that changes the entire story, let alone the other things left out and ignored. So clearly audiences *don't* understand Dune because they weren't given Dune, more like "Pile" instead of Dune.
@@NovusIgnis I don’t remember the Spacing Guild doing much in the original book, though. We get maybe two or three scenes with representatives and that’s it. We’re definitely going to be much more important in the “Dune: Messiah” movie with Edric.
@@benderthepirate They didnt do a lot as "people", but they mattered a lot as a "presence". The notion that they wouldn't be unable to use satellites in the movie to detect the Fremen in the southern regions, and thus get an accurate count on how numerous they are, is ridiculous. In the book this is explained by the fact that that the Fremen collect their own spice and use it to bribe the Spacing Guild to prevent that monitoring. Furthermore, there's no logical reason in the movie for the Great Houses, who I recall are in orbit, to not simply start attacking from space. In the book, this is again explained by Paul checkmating the entire Imperium with the threat of destroying all spice *ever.* They aren't characters, but rather an oppressive force that makes it clear how powerful they are when you consider that they don't even have a presence as characters. The Emperor, the Bene Gesserit, the Mentat order, etc etc everyone has a presence as characters moving actively except the Spacing Guild. They only show up as characters at the end, and even that is just to be thoroughly beaten by Paul into doing what he wants. They're a pretty significant player.
Nice that you show that the eyes of Ibad are all blue not only retins like in the movie (not that I am complaining at least we got some blue eyes in Dune compared to the purple eyes for the Valyrians in Hotd and Got).
Look forward to comparison between Dune part 2. I’ve read the books, but I don’t like Herbert style too much so I don’t rememberer a lot of details, which doesn’t happen with the movies cause they are visually stunning so you can’t forget those beautiful shots.
Are you sure you mean retina?
hell yeah, it's always cool to see how people imagine dune characters, since the books don't go into detail about it
In the book he saves all of the workers from the sand crawler by throwing out their ships shield generators.
although I don't care about Dune I will comment for engagement because I like your channel
I hope you can be a fan 😊
@@eclat4641 My brain can't take anymore fictional worlds
Please more Dune content!!!! I’d love to see the rest of the Dune novels in your animations 😍
Bagpipes were in Ancient Greece before they made there way to Scotland, where house Atredes claim descend.
Yes, and bagpipes even predate Ancient Greece. Modern reconstructions based on museum examples sound very "Eastern" compared to modern Celt bagpipes.
Having the Harkonnen’s house code of arms being a bullhead is even cooler considering how the old Duke died
I want an entire Dune movie that’s animated like fantasy haven
Dennis focusing on the Bene Gesserit instead of the boy calculators is a smart choice, but I’m still sad about it :(
Would love more of these ventures beyond asoiaf Lord Haven. Keep up the good work
Love your video and your sense of humor brought to Arrakis!
WE NEED A PART TWO PLEASE 😢

A history of the Bene Gesserit video like your House History videos would be great!
Hell History of House Atredies would be great and serve as a good video for the series overall
I love the altshiftX shout out! Great video!
There is a place in Spain, Galicia, where the geography resembles Calidan in the movie and the people are in many ways Celtic in culture. Bagpipes included.
Making the Harkonnen sigil a bull is actually a really interesting move, because it could become symbolic of their rivalry with the Atreides due to Paul's grandfather being killed by a bull.
It was a bull in the 2000 rts game
It’s a griffin on light blue in the books. A nod to the family roots being on the planet Lankiveil.
A lot more changes in part 2. Looking forward to you making that.
Dune Is a guilty pleasure the children of dune mini series Is fantastic
"He shall branch out from ASOIF content." As written! 🏜️ 🪱 ⏳ 🔪
first time i've heard someone pronounce Denis's name correctly
2:10 not always the case, there are 2 guild navigators at the end of book 1 who pass as regular humans save for their blue eyes which they disguise with contact lenses.
I like symbol of movie Atreides and Harkonnen simple and easy to make
This Dune version takes the award for the most ridiculous sand walk ever. I dont think we should let it slide.
🤣🤣🤣 i see what you did there.👌🏾
Excellent analysis...thanks my man...
Much appreciated :)
The Celtic people descended from Spainish so it fits better than most realize
I watched dune part 1 and thought it was super boring, but watching this has actually kinda gotten me into dune. I'd love to see more dune stuff on your channel
How can it be boring tf😂

I have just watched Dune 2 for a second time in the Cinema, an amazing movie on its own
Yes please , more dune content ... The spice must flow 😊
its kind of cool in the books that the sardaukar are diguised but some character notice them as sardaukar by their fighting stile being so op
Ever beein kicked between the legs? There is a reason even if you just hear or see that as man we shudder....its deadly. But paul is trained in bene gesetit ways, they can controll every muscle in ther body....
Ngl as someone Scottish i was incredibly honoured to have the bagpipes played in this movie! loved the feel it gave them a they arrived! very regal
11:02 "The book Baron just yeets out of the room" That should NOT be funny, but somehow it is
Former Spain was indeed populated by a group of celtics, the celtiberians en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celtiberians. So the olive skin and bull fighting is totally plausible for the house Atreides.
Dune Part Two differences please!
would love more dune content, although it doesn’t get much better than ‘drunken idaho’
I do wish they had kept Kynes's hallucination in the film, considering it has that really important thematic line about heroes. But what, in your opinion, is the likelihood that GRRM drew inspiration from the Dune series for ASOIAF?
*YES*
Parts of it were hard to get through for me, but it was worth it
More Dune pls
Herbert Described Duncan Idaho's eyes as having epicanthal folds, which means Asian ancestry. I'm assuming Villeneuve and Lynch just read the Dune cliff notes.
Well as far as I remember, Leto saves all men from harvester, for which he rip off shield generators from the rest of the ships that were guarding him.
These modern films were a great visual spectacle, but as an adaptation are disastrous. As was foretold.
We have written records of the Celts traveling west through Northern Greece. There is a thread of cultural connection there, even in the music. Look into the music and dance of Brittany. It’s obvious to me that it drastically changed, but seems evolved from Greek dancing.
I think that Caladan was originally settled by celtic people before it was owned by House Atreides. And their celtic inspired culture would be partially adopted by the Atreides. Though not specifically mentioned in the book it's not outside the realms of possibility and I do think Denis Villeneuve leans towards such an idea also.
You know it's kinda weird that Paul is the baron grandson especially with the implied in the books why he wants him
The "Pad-uh-shah" Emperor, not "Pa-dish-ah"
Yeah i noticed that lol
Spice is not hallucinogenic. It's an awareness-spectrum narcotic.
Adapting Dune to to screen is tough as the book is lore-dense and show don't tell only goes so far.
"Drunken Idaho" 😀😂
I'm not interested in "June" and "Juke Leto" but I am a fan of Dune and Duke Leto
The late lord
LISAN AL GAIB!
I have had trouble with the name 😂😂
Doon , dune, chune, toon,
First one this time 😅
Okay so in my opinion i Like the Got Content way more then Dune
I think think the baldness is the radiation
The majority of modern-day Spain was inhabited by Celts prior to Roman occupation. Also, bullfighting was deeply rooted in Greco-Roman culture, and was prolific all around the Mediterranean at one point in time--Spain just held onto the tradition a good while longer than everybody else. I'm not trying to nit-pick, I'm just saying the idea of bullfighting Celts isn't really that big of a stretch.
Awww. More like the iron throne is the lion throne.
6:57 well if you look deeper into actual real history you will realize that the Greeks and Celts and many indo European people share a common ancestor in the Black Sea regions if I’m not mistaken. So yeah lol, but I get it in the sense that celts lived in more wooded areas and Greece was more open and medium climate so genetic variations would happen.
But on your note I agree with you
Gotta love this comment sections appreciation of Oscar Isaacs magnificent beard
Ah yes. June
1:37 - ...and members of Daft Punk.
Liet is Chani's father
0:44 Curious, I don’t remember Paul’s skin tone being described, only his hair and eyes. And Timothée Chalamet is fair-skinned.
What is this?
Your videos are usually so good man. Bummer you choked on this one. Look forward to your next one!
In terms of views or quality?
1:55 Golden Lion Throne* , i think you are overdosing the spice
duuuuuuuuuuuune
Dyune tyuesdee
Heh, you mock the Americans for saying Doon, then immediately say 'Paul Atreiades'.Smooooooooooooth.....
Also, the planetologist cnahged into a black woman who surves no substance other than diversity token. In the book, HE was super important and united the tribes of Dune from killing each other constantly.
Hi, haven't seen the movie, but read the book recently, can't believe that change of kynes. Makes me kind of disappointed.
leeto atredis
9:25 you said "in the galaxy", but the Empire is not like Star Wars' where it's only 1 galaxy, Shaddam' empire is multi galactic
It isn't
@@RandomVidsforthought It is. Read the first chapter of God-Emperor
Bull fighting is Spanish while Atreus is Greek so why isn't Celtic heritage and bagpipes also not acceptable in the mix?
Dune or Dyune for the Brit folk
Doom 2 is a good movie it's a bad Dune movie though
ASOIAF 🤝 Dune
The movie was honestly good, but there was one part I can't stand, and that is Paul and Jamis' fight.
LISAN AL-GAIB
They took away some of Paul’s badassery in the movies sadly. 😔
After I finished the video I went back to the beginning, listening to the two pronunciations of "dune" over and over and I can't tell the difference!!!!!! I'm losing my mind. Maybe I'm just too yankee to hear the difference?
*Makes fun of American pronunciation of dune*
*Mispronounces Padishah*
Dune, or Dyoon, if you’re British…
Changing kines was so grossly unnecessary
They did it to force Zendaya as Chani to make sense. If they’d left Kynes as himself then they’d be accused of whitewashing. Never mind that Chani in the books is an elfin faced pale redhead, with Paul being the olive skinned Mediterranean murder twink.
