    This woman's memoir is one of my all-time-favorite books ever. I had the opportunity to meet her and hear her speak while she was on her book tour in 1997. She truly was an example of the evolution of women in the 20th Century.

      Just a note....Katherine is my SECOND fav. Warren Buffett's biography, "Snowball" is my favorite! Warren was a great friend Katherine's and an investor in WPO companies.

    I'm reading Katherine Graham's book now (November 2021) and I recommend it highly to anyone interested in newspaper history.
    Much of it covers the early years when her father Eugene Myers bought the paper, and through the years when her husband Phil was the publisher.
    I'm up to August 1963 and look forward to what's ahead.

    OH Katharine Graham is one of my favorite people ever. Everyone should read her autobiography, Personal History.

      I won't be reading it. Why is she so special as a person other than being a woman that did something only men did up until that point? What makes her so great to you

    One of the best movies I've seen - ever. Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks. How can you go wrong with such great actors and an amazing plot.

    Can't wait to see "The Post" starring Meryl Streep as Kate Graham. Her capable leadership at The Post represents what we Americans value about our Freedom of Press.

    I've always been amazed that this woman who was raised in extreme, rarified wealth and privilege would grow up to become someone who felt at home in the profane boys' club of the newspaper business!

    10:59 - SPOILER ALERT: Deep Throat was then FBI Deputy Director Mark Felt.
    He was married. They had two kids.
    Katherine got the "man" part right.

    Hey folks. Movies are great n all but why not pick up a good book. Here's a suggestion.
    Author: Deborah Davis. Title: Katharine the great.
    An excellent piece that could not be discredited. Not even by Katharine's lawyer team. No-one!
    Also. Peter Janney has some excellent insight in his book of those times...
    Available on Amazon and other good bookshops.

      Reminds me of Margaret Thatcher. I wish she would've chosen someone that is a more interesting and different character to play instead of just choosing any woman that is in power.
      I wanna see different characters, Miranda was also powerful but TOTALLY different character than Thatcher.
      This Graham thing...
      And then she did the Opera bad singer haha! I love that Meryl, the playful one has GREAT taste.

    Tragic that she died before learning who Deep Throat was... Altho she doesn't seem too curious about who "he" was.

    • @pianobanter
      @pianobanter 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not long before Deep Throat was revealed, I remember watching an interview with Katharine and Ben Bradlee together and the question came up again. Ben reiterated that he knew who it was and she said she didn't and she didn't want to know, even after all those years. The whole scandal at the time and the Nixon administration was an obvious dark cloud over her professional career, perhaps it was a question that didn't seem to matter to her anymore.

      +adelgado75 Yes, but there's one mention of Mrs. Graham when he threatens Dustin Hoffman on the phone, then Ben Bradlee asked did he really say that about Mrs. Graham?

      @mthivier 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Robert Yates I'm wondering who might have played her, had she been in the movie. Patricia Neal, maybe? Beatrice Straight?

    • @pec2pec
      @pec2pec 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Mar Thivierge: Mrs. Graham requested that she NOT be portrayed in the movie; at that point, there was a distrust of Hollywood's treatment of journalism and (needless to say) no one knew how Redford's film would turn out. But before Mrs. Graham made her feelings known, Redford had talked to Geraldine Page about playing her, and she was interested in doing it. So Page became the most likely candidate for the part, although Lauren Bacall's name was also mentioned.
