Back in ancient times when there were still drafting boards, coffee cups were stood in a drawer below the work surface so as not to get on the work even if spilled. However this might not always be the case on a sailing vessel depending on sea state.
I've been recovering from medical proceedures with my back and binge watching Sailing Uma. I've even shared this with my high school classes. You are inspiring me and I even started looking at some boats on the West Coast. There are some things I think I would do differently but appreciate how even after you finisha project, if it isn't working out, you change it. Keep up the great work.
Dan, Kika, Thanks for all your videos. The story of upgrading Kika's workplace and the explanations from Dan concerning your electric system are great for me. All of details you are telling me ( us) are interesting, and a couple of them are amazing. Hopfully not only myself, but every fan, or eventually all Uma's members are facinnated with your approch towards boat projecting. It is special, as you projecting well-organized, perfectly-designed home which is supposed to respond to all your needs while living in this simple world not only sailing around the world. Accidently, your home is an ocean-boat. Great planning! Phenomenal skills! Cheers and loves, M
You’re so right K, we don’t see all the work you do putting together all these amazing videos. That’d be a great step to see? Be very interested to see that part of your project!
You two are crafty sailors for certain. There is nothing as satisfying as lovely wood. You can’t just look at it; you must touch it! Well done table top and clever, precision drawers projects!
Another great DYI remodel of a poor use of space into an elegant functional space on a boat. I enjoy these steps so much. It looks fantastic and I look forward to seeing the other finished products to enhance this area! Cheers!
you have the nicest boat ive ever seen! better than the new catamaran or older renovations. uma is full of so much love and we can really see that. your editing has improved from great to incredible! and this video is the best production i think youve created. what a pleasure it is to watch sailing uma every week. thank you thank you!!! u both rock :)
kinda random, but Delos today mentioned an interesting way to get around the whole Schengen visa thing Kika. Something about getting the STCW and attaching yourself to the boat. Might be worth looking into if you're still trying to figure out that visa problem- sounds like you can stay in a place as long as the boat is there. Also, thanks for the great videos! Keep up the good work you guys!
The hours you put in to making your videos shows in the quality you put out. Your videos are amazing and are so enjoyable. Keep up the good work. LOVE your new work table. Safe travels!
The time Dan and Kika moved the rented table saw in their dinghy! Pretty sure this is very original content! AND led to beautiful craftsmanship! Heck all his "sawing" is pretty spectacular! #ThanksForSharing! #LoveSailingUma
Am I the only only who would have taken the wood to the shop to do my five cuts, instead of moving the big table saw around? Maybe that's why I don't have content for a yt channel.
There's nothing like having the right tool on site. Cutting remotely is a recipe for unexpected results. I love that they brought the saw to the slip on a dingy but I wouldn't want to have rented that saw to them. Saltwater and tools don't play well together.
All that smoke is probably from a dull blade. Use a thin-kerf, carbide, 60 tooth blade (Diablo makes a good one) - it uses a lot less power and cuts smooth & easy. That said, your channel is one I look forward to. Having been husband to a beautiful black woman for almost 50 years, you always make my heart go pitty-pat!
I always like to see you guys pass the 100k views per episode as I think you have one of the TOP sailing channels on TH-cam!! Also, very nice work on the table top and re-use of the old cabinet to drawer fronts, well done !!!!
Kiki I have to tell you Ive been creeping you guys for over a week and all your hard work editing looks so professional. Its an absolute amazing production and journey. Keep up the great work and thank you so much...
This is crazy, I just discovered your channel the other week and have been watching all the videos from start to finish. I just decided to watch some of the newer ones and I was watching them thinking I recognise that building, I recognise that coastline. Turns out your moored up 2 minutes walk from my grandmas house and walked past my house in the previous episode!
You have probably have one of the best set up boat interiors I have seen. Great job on the table. Your creativity and quality workmanship clearly shows. Nice job!
Discoverd you two recently and now catching up from the beginning. As a retired architect, I love the way you approach projects. Your problem solving seems so familiar. Love watching you guys
So well done! Kudos for the shoutout to PLANNING! It’s the step so many people cut corners on... Don’t underestimate the value of accumulated talent and experience. You are both on the high end of the DYI spectrum. It really showed in how you tackled this project.
Wanna type exactly the same comment =) Dan and Kika are so good in reconfiguring their home place. And all of the projects are so nicely performed. Only passage vids are better =)
it's quite eye opening to me, just how much you can do to a boat. I would have thought that everything stayed stock, and they would just replace parts which were broken, but when you see the level of personalization and stuff you can change on boats it's quite amazing. There's something really cool about constantly upgrading and improving your boat.
The new table looks awesome, hopefully there is enough play in the fit around the bulk head that the wood expanding to the humidity and temp doesn't cause it to crack. My wife and I have loved watching yall transform a lump of coal into a diamond over the years. Hope to see yall on the water one day.
I'm surprised a major network hasn't picked up on this channel and ran with it. It's that good. I'm pretty picky about what I watch, and I'm terrified I'll be binging past episodes all weekend. It's that good. Be safe and keep 'em coming!
Amazing job on that Dan !!! You can totally see Kika's face glow when you finished that. All the work you two have put into Uma is really paying off !! She looks way better than some of the high price new boats Love the vids ! keep em coming eh have fun and be safe
As I sit in my camper at the boat yard you almost motivated me to get up and start working on my boat again. I was in the engine bay all day which is one of my least favorite areas for projects. That table looks sweet. Nice work on the drawers as well. Might have to steal that idea. Dan the man. Kiki you rock with the edits. I love the slow mo shots with the saw. These home improvement videos are awesome!
You two are so clever and industrious! So cute watching your faces of success getting that table saw down to and up on the dinghy! Well done!! Always love the Uma Crew Master Class!!
I agree with an earlier writer. Something very calming and inspiring about watching you work your projects. Tiny Homes are all the rage, but you have taken a sailboat and made it into a beautiful home.
loved the Makita ferrying and at 76 years still learning tips .. the hot melt glue tip was epic .. I used masking tape on the knob and five minute epoxy to do the same job .. once the masking tape was removed the clearance was spot on .
You guys are amazing! I'm always impressed with the quality of your workmanship. And how easy you make it look. Thank you for creating one of the best sailing vlogs on TH-cam!
I love watching these project videos. You all undertake some massive refits and upgrades and it’s so inspiring. Reminds me that if you have a vision you can make it happen.
You can have a tablesaw on the boat as follows: Mount your circular saw on a rectangular piece of plywood. Rout out a dado for the miter gauge. Make a rip fence that clamps onto the table. Support the whole assembly either on folding legs or something that already exists on the boat. I used to use my 100 gallon fish box. I no longer have a boat, but I still have the tablesaw in a condo in FL. I use it outside on a table that once house a commercial sewing machine. Take off the circular saw and you have a flat board that is easy to stow. It looks to me that your table blocks access to the drawers you built.
I don't have patience to video my boat projects, but I'm glad you do! It is helpful to see ideas you two, and others, have for boats - as well as techniques in the build. Thanks!
Great video. Everything you have done in your floating home has been very nice. You should be proud of your accomplishments. All your videos have wonderful camera work, and makes feel as I were there. Thanks for sharing your journey with us.
K...your an awesome video editor. You take risks with your perspectives when shooting. You Edison’s are clean sharp and attractive. You stay with the story and enhance it. Like this video with the zoom on the saw...never seen it done like that, I’m a woodworker that shoot will be copied by other channels. Anyway even your sound is pro so take it easy on yourself there a reason your number 1 in your space and honestly your supporting your lifestyle
Or it's a sign of a heavily oiled butcher block, I use 8oz of food grade oil on my 16"x24"x6" butcher block cutting board every month and theirs is much larger.
I've dealt with a few of these. A good quality saw blade makes a lot of difference, but depending on the type of oil used you could still see some smoke, especially with Walnut. Most people try too hard to force the blade instead of letting the saw do the work.
As a side benefit, this new, rare wood table top complements your, oh so lovely skin tone, dear Kika. You were made for each other ! 😍😍😍 Good job as usual, Dan !!👍
Love the hot glue idea for lining up the catches. I have used it for making templates, 30 to 40mm wide strips of 2mm ply cut to fit around the shape and hot glued together so quick and effective.
I love your perfectionism, that's how it should be......Dan, don't worry about being a nerd for straight lines, I am also a pain😆 You two are just incredible on the DIY!!! PS...just as well it's crazy rainy weather....it stimulates one to get jobs done inside!😄😄😄🥰
Loved the blue smoke Dan generated from his 3rd eye! I may be unusual but I'd be intrigued to watch some of the planning process, the variety of ideas and why they were rejected, or how they morphed into the final project. Great job as always! 💙
Have you considered mounting the B&G on a fold away mount. I use a mount in the kitchen to fold the TV up when I need counter space, but most of the time it’s down so I can watch TV while I cook. That would clear the corner and make B&G more assessable. Love following y’all and can’t wait for the next episode.
Ace job on the nav desk . You need hinges so as the overhang over the drawers folds up to give you full access to the full depth of the drawers ;-) Cracking vlog n many fanx guys .
This series makes me wish I were young again. I have definitely not had enough sailing . Couple of plastic tips. All cans are lined with bisphenols sprayed on. Combining these with heat/fire is a problem. If you need to use a can, burn off the liner, exhausting away from you or food first. If you want to store food, glass/stainless is better, keeping upright because in 2020 all lids are bisphenol lined - we can hope for safer packaging at some point. I welcome examples of safer liners but so far, most BPA free products use another bisphenol which is likely worse. Old fashioned waxes worked well and didn't end up causing havoc in our bodies and those of sea life.
I build alot of cabinets on the side and recently tried a wen track saw. That's a small footprint that's honestly easier to break out than a table saw, something to consider for future projects. Keep up the amazing work.
I love that you guys are so easy to watch. Obviously so much work goes into making it all seem so easy to watch. Brilliant reno skills & brilliant editing. 💫🎐☀️🐨
i spilled about 6 ounces of water onto the keyboard of my MacBook Air a few years. It was most definitely dead after I did that. Very costly mistake. My rule from that point forward was no liquids anywhere near my laptop.
Kika and Dan thank you for yet another of your very nice clips, I really love your steps. And they are superbly edited, I guess that's why it is taking a great amount of time to do them...The table saw in the dinghy must have been quite an adventure. My idea to actually solve need like that on a more permanent manner is to have a circular saw with a couple of guide rails aboard. But on the other hand - a table saw is much steadier....
Great work Dan! I think Kika's face might have been justified when it came to carrying the Saw down the beach to the Dinghy, saw in an inflatable dinghy, what could possibly go wrong :-)! Absolutely lovely desk! Did you have to put plastic tape on the edge of the laminate draw fronts? If so how did you get them to match the old laminate so well?
Takes me back to st. Thomas and living in false entrance I worked in a cabinet shop and built many cabinets for boats so I enjoy watching their projects on UMA and travelling the waters to many places. O to be young again,
Editing videos for our thru hike or the Israel National Trail, I'm just in awe of your shooting (and planning for all that!) and video editing (cutting) skills.
Hey both, great DYI achievement! If you epoxy only one side of the newly installed worktop you run the risk of the whole thing warping in the future (even a jointed wood worktop). Keep an eye on it! Great channel, have been following you since the beginning!
loving the boat reno guys just thinking possibly a led light under the instruments to give some desktop lighting ? and for the bottom drawers boxes pined ? just some ideas ?
Kika has really MASTERED the B Roll and editing. A Roll is perfect also .. No issue with getting a job in any country doing just that !
I felt that intro deep in my soul. I've spilled coffee on my favorite editing keyboard more than once. Thank God for IT.

Only a kind, loving man will make his girl a nice work station so she can bring home the bacon. The desk top is lovely. Be happy, Be safe.
LOL great comment :)
Love your boat projects guys. Dan can't stop to amaze me with his skills. I wish I was half that talented. I can't wait for the next episode.
Handy-man Dan right back again at some remodelling your home just like in the old days... 😆
Love these video's!
Cheers guys!
Dan has an engineer/designer mindset. Problem? Let's find a solution, But, while we're at it, let's make it awesome.

Awesome boat project giving a beautiful table. Thanks for the hours you use to video edit, etc.
Beautiful, great inspiration for my future boat projects. FYI smoke is usually a sign your saw blade is dull.
Or it's a sign of a heavily oiled butcher block, I use 8oz of food grade oil on my 16"x24"x6" butcher block cutting board every month and theirs is much larger.
