This has to be one of the best executed boat tours I've ever watched. The reference to the floor plan when you talk about what remodeling you did, along with back and forth between before and after, gives a crystal clear picture of what your boat looks like inside both when you bought it and after the work. Well done!
A lot of hours went into these 35 minutes, and it shows. And the boat itself is brilliant. The wood stove made me blink, but they could go on a grand tour of Norway if they wanted to now. I'll have to check out the deck vid now.
Love your galley ideas. I will utilize the lazy Susan and possibly the pot filler idea into my RV redo. Great creative & well thought out solutions! Just found your channel. Looking forward to watching all your videos.
Totally. I've watched a lot of boat tours (and house or farm tours) and I find it so frustrating because I can't orient myself and I want to know where something is in relation to something else. The floor plan is so helpful. I also really appreciate the regular back and forth between the before and after, and sometimes the before, between, and after photos. You obviously put a lot of thought into creating your home and I appreciate how much thought you also put into creating this video and the time it must have taken to search for the exact footage you wanted to use.
@@2potornot2pot the pot filler is the best idea for a small space, isn't it? A faucet actually takes up so much room when you think about it and because it's mounted on the wall you can get a much larger sink into that space. The ability to fold it away and also the reach it has makes it a brilliant solution. And yes, if I'm ever in a position where I'm renovating a small space I will also be implementing this idea.
Not rich, not experienced sailors (starting out), just damned hardworking, inventive, adventurous, and brave. You two are living the perfect life. Although you have proven it is possible, I know 100% I could not have done it. These are not how-to videos, because to follow your example requires so much character and know-how to begin with. Enjoy living like gods; you have earned it. Thank you for taking me along in this way.
Can I just say that I really love that you don't have a fancy intro and that you don't use clickbait bikini photos in all your thumbnails! So refreshing.
I have been a Contractor for 40 years - Your Carpentery / Renovation skills are amazing, especially on a boat with no straight lines to pull from. Simply outstanding work.
The amount of time and energy you've put into Uma is really amazing. You've turned $3000 into... Your whole life. It's really an extension of who you guys are. Thanks for sharing your life with us!
You two are storage and inventing geniuses. Seriously, I’ve never seen better use of space. Anyone trying to make do in a small space should watch this. 🏆
We have sailed all our lives, owned several boats, 35 years in BC, Canada. Sailed The Bahamas and The Caribbean, crossed the Atlantic, and are now retired and happy we did it. Boy, I wish we could have watched your videos 20 years ago. What an inspiration, sail on and fair winds.
I love the fact that you two had absolutely NO experience with boats or sailing when you started... and that turned into a TON of experience and truly amazing design ideas. 'Heavy Susan' is genius. The bathroom redesign is inspired. Everything shows how the two of you have worked to create a living space that is truly multifunctional... simple but at the same time well thought out. Great job!
TH-cam recommended this video to me. At first glance of the thumbnail, I thought, Oh these people have no clue why the things are laid out inside a sailboat. Everything needs to have multipurpose functions. Pretty things don't make sailing easier when you are in a big storm. Nobody has been able to improve on these interiors for decades. I have to watch this video to see the train wreck. Then while watching, my jaw dropped to the floor in disbelieve. I can clearly tell you have offshore experience and know what would work and doesn't. You found a way to improve a sailing 'yacht' interior to not only function better but also aesthetically look better. If I ever buy a similar sailing yacht like your's, I plan to implement the same changes you did. I'm also a photographer and I like your ideas of where to store your gear. Thanks for sharing your works. As a U.S.C.G. Licensed Master and USCG Licensed Instructor (training future captains) 👮🏼♂️ a solid salute ✋🏻 😊!
So glad you responded the way you did. 👍👏 It blows the know it all trolls opinions out of the water, and eliminates the negative feelings the maker may have had. Also, I felt the same way about the improvements, and will think about them when finishing my little 20 foot Vivacity rebuild.
And to think neither had ANY prior sailing experience when they bought the “fixer upper” sailboat (for 3k!?)... though they have been at it for a few years now, it would appear... necessity’s the mother of invention, and they’ve certainly got an eye for aesthetics... great vid, inspirational even!
It's the exact same reaction I had my friend. I was pondering why tear things apart to just re-do it but they have re-engineered wall to wall in an ingenious way that makes every other video fall short. So awesome to know that "there's always a way'!
After reading a lot of the comments people have complimented you on your interior design and use of space. They seem to forget that you two have done all the cabinet making! That is a huge feat in itself. You two have no fear tackling a project and doing a very professional job at it.
I hope there are some boat designers watching your videos. The clean, uncluttered, spacious aspect of your cabin is so much more appealing and livable.
It should be written either “ . . . you are now interior” or “ . . . you’re now interior.” But either way, it is just beautiful. Good luck on your voyages.
Putting aside the fact that this interior is in a boat, THIS is how you do minimalist design. There's still soul left. So many minimalist designs these days end up eliminating a lot of emotion and visual elements by nature of making things as minimal as possible. Props to you guys!
One of the smartest, best designed cabin interiors I've ever seen. You put professional boat interior designers to shame. Almost everything you design is surprising and never seen before.
Yes, I agree. Sometimes it takes someone with no experience or no preconceived ideas to be able to think outside the box and find the best solutions, doesn't it?
11:46 is a simple fix, simply install two wooden blocks on the bottom of the cutting board, one on each end, that will lock in the lazy susan when the cutting board is in it's closed position. I'm still impressed you guys came up with that lazy susan idea entirely, that's next level problem solving.
For the fruit hammock issue, I’d sew a piece of stretchy material to the back top of the hammock, and when you set sail just pull that stretchy “lid” over the fruit/veg and either tie down or maybe clamp/Velcro down to the front of the hammock. Problem solved. Or you could just tie a string to the middle of the front and run it straight up to an attachment above it under the cabinets & tie it off, hoisting the front high enough that the fruit won’t go spilling over. This boat interior looks like it was designed in the finest of Italian studios, working hand in hand with practical engineers with tons of boating knowledge. What an amazing job you two. Can’t get over how well done this is!
My biggest reason for alcohol over propane is safety. No matter what, if there is a stove fire, you can put it out with the water on hand. I know this from experience. We had a fuel line rupture while cooking at sea - the alcohol leaked and fire spread - the Captain grabbed the pot of water we were boiling for a spaghetti dinner and dumped it on the flames. End f crisis. On land, while RVing we used alcohol stoves, that way we did not have to worry about tunnels and bridges which do not allow hazardous/pressurized fuels and, therefore did not have to go around the long way. While hiking, alcohol has been a favorite because it is available just about everywhere and operates even in the dark or after multiple cloudy days in a row! P.S. Love your home-boat!
The trouble I have with alcohol is the colorless invisible flame when burning. We lent ours to a neighbour to use on their 56 foot Schooner decades ago and they almost burned the ship down. It overflowed and he lit it without knowing the alcohol ran down the side. His quik thinking wife grabbed the stove, raced up the companionway, and threw our brand new stove overboard. Alcohol has never been aboard any of our boats again, except for drinking. Propane is scary, but when properly installed with auto shutoff sensors is totally safe.
@@Daviddickson What an interesting "event" - glad they were OK!!!! I wonder why it was invisible...mine wasn't/isn't.Weird. We sure did know it was afire during our "event"and could follow the flame trail to put it out. As for tossing it overboard - quick thinking indeed! Ours was attached [double gimbals] so it remained onboard. Grin? Yeah, I can grin now, decades later... Anyway, enjoy & safe sailing!
@@dross24MA All great information here! Glad I read these comments! We've always used propane but haven't been against alcohol, just haven't had the opportunity to use it for cooking. There is a lot to think about here.
As a miritime engineer i am very much impressed with this project. It blows my mind how well every thing comes together, so proffesional. you've got yourselfs a beautifull boat!
Uma, the boat, is pure genius. Certainly a 1-of-a-kind. The engineering is incredible topped only by the craftsmanship of installation. However, what impresses me time & time again is the absolute perfect teamwork with which you two make it all look so simple. It's like a dance. You guys deserve to be very, very proud of what you have accomplished. You have made this 36' monohull look absolutely HUGE inside. Congrats! I think you are going to make profound changes to interior yacht design concepts. 👍
Would be nice if a big yacht company would assign them do the aesthetics/interior of the boat. And with the money they could upgrade theirs to their desired maximum. Edit: I meant of a boat/not “the boat”
I'm a cyclist, and cyclists say that; If you and your partner get a tandem bike, it won't change the course of your relationship, it will just get you there faster. I think your yacht does that and then some, and as much as I admire your home, I admire your relationship more. take care of each other :)
Couple with tandems either end up bonded for life or divorced quickly... The tandem riders I know all dress the same... on and off their bikes. :) These two look like they've done the sailing equivalent, look like a great couple that is enjoying their journey, not enduring it.
@@scottwa That makes so much sense! I've only ever ridden a tandem bike once. It was old and didn't have gears. We had a long way to go and it wasn't much fun at all. I'm sure if my wife would have been my wife at that time, it might have made or broken us! Yes, this couple most definitely seem to be enjoying their journey, not enduring it. I think that would be a great phrase to print on a T-shirt. Something like, Life is meant to be a journey to enjoy, not to merely endure.
um ... no ... living on a boat compares to a van, not so much a bicycle or motorcycle and no, a tandem bicycle wont neccessarily get there faster, at all, sheesh, you have got to be kidding everyone should have their own cycle but vans can be shared same diff for clothing, two ppl can each wear shorts n a tshirt, without both wearing one pair of fourlegged pants but, now that i think about it, i suppose two rich ppl could each have a big sailboat, and sail alongside eachother, around the world, i suppose.
There was a saying about early twin engine aircraft - when one engine failed, the engine would just get you to the crash site faster. Now all the jets can climb, fly and land on one engine I assure you.
@@terrypennell416 They could actually legitimately qualify except I believe most boat designers are marine engineers and not architects. Dan, what is the skinny on that?
Absolutely! I kept wondering if anyone has approached you with requests for design advice or even employment. Uma is definitely the roomiest 36/38 I've seen. Always fun videos. Cheers!
The interior of Uma is the coolest, most thoughtfully designed and laid out that I have ever seen! You made it fit your needs rather than trying to adjust yourselves to traditional boat design! Kudos!
Woohoo!!! I think one of the biggest advantages you had in designing this layout is not being set in how boats have always been laid out! By not being constrained in the ways things have always been done on sailboat layouts it opened up so many cool possibilities! I lived aboard a 29' Bristol for 6 years- so many of your innovations would have greatly improved my limited space! My hats off to the both of you- love the practical, beautiful layout and the ingenious use of space!!! Super functional, well thought-out and still beautiful!
All of the upgrades and renovations done on Uma really makes it YOUR home. The before and after of the interior has such a huge difference. Thanks for the tour!
SO, Ive watched so many videos on sailing and buying a boat. You two have hit a home run in my eyes, how cool to make your dreams come true. Your boat is outstanding and you’ve both done such a great job on the refit. Loved your video, thank you..
@@ItsPrinceTaz The corner cupboards in my kitchen have 2 tier lazy susans with 2 part hinged doors to get at them. It's such a good use of space. They have a corner cut into them so the door closes flush with the other cupboards and when you spin the susans around they are poking out of the cupboard essentially, making it super easy to access.
I agree and they can easily fix the issue with the susan rotating out at sea by installing two wooden blocks on the bottom of the cutting board, one on each end. The cutting board in the closed position will lock it in.
I smile every time I think how you saved this beautiful old boat and her good bones smile at you every day. Boats have their unique sounds, moves, smells. A boat soul!
I’ve loved following the transformation/maturity of these two as well as the transformation of Uma. Such a beautiful, clean interior (unlike others I’ve seen which are a cluttered mess). Great job you two!
32:39 "We were just trying to get to the next horizon, and getting to the next horizon we figured out what we needed to get to the next horizon." That's one hell of a quote.
After 20 years of designing and living in small spaces of all types, you guys are literally the first people I've ever seen with an identical design philosophy. Our latest project (a tiny house on wheels) is eerily similar. Like, literally it looks the same inside with so many shared multipurpose solutions. Very cool. Thanks for the tips and all the effort that goes into making these videos. Subscribed!!
Only watched one show. These two are amazing communicators, entertainers, designers, engineers, and handy people. Love your spirit and power. This is awesome.
To echo that sentiment... You have come a long way in five years, both counting the actual miles as well as the progress on projects. It has been a joy to ride along with you on your journey. Thanks for Sharing.
I look at the charging ports and think 50 years from now people will say “they had to charge phones?” I hear you on the composting toilet. Its one thing to use one (they are awesome btw) but another thing altogether *explaining* how to use one lol. Been there. You two should be interior boat designers for hire. Brilliant ideas and applications! ❤️
This was really interesting, I'm retired from the Coast Guard so I have experience with small birthing areas. The innovations in the design you came up with are great. Thanks for the excellent video.
Second time ive watched this video and it's still awesome. I really like the kitchen faucet. The way it folds flat against the wall is great. What ypu guys did to a 3k boat with dead motor is just incredible. This is so cool to see that a little imagination and hard work is all you need.
This is the first video of your guys'' I've found. I really like your vibe and your boat. I have an Islander 36 from around the same time. The 70's were good for cruising.
So I am going to go out on a limb hear and say, having a degree "each" in architecture is part of the ability to look at a space and see what and how it needs to be. I say this because you have really created the best space I have seen in the minimal space you had. I watched a lot if the videos, if not all, where you did this but seeing the full picture is magical. Love you both 💞
I remember when you started........another crazy couple.......I been folding boats the last 40yrs. I must tell you ..I'm Impressed with what you have accomplish. Not only that but how well you have redone the Pearson it totally looks impressive an well done. Kudos to you both. I bet your dad in Jamaica is happy also. love you guys keep up with the wind where ever you go. God Bless an fair winds. pss i will keep an eye out for you guys
Your companionway is such a great idea, it's so natural to use and looking at old footage it looks like the old configuration would have been really awkward. Also everything else you did was so smart. your boat looks so great.
Dan and Kika, I love all your steps, and have watched them all. you are amazing and are an inspiration to all sailors. Uma looks incredible. well done, and thank you for sharing your amazing journey with us
What a well thought out and beautifully executed little sailing vessel with some very innovative design features using materials that most can easily afford. My hats off to you two youngsters for knowing what you want out of life and going for it. You may not realize it but I honestly think you could make a very good living doing boat renovations and designs for pay. It would require sacrifice of time you could spend much more enjoyably taking advantage of what you've already accomplished. However should the need for cash ever arise I could see your services being highly prized and the both of you being very well compensated for your time. You now both have the sailing experience and direct knowledge of what it takes to not only bring an old boat back from the grave basically but to a whole other level via an affordable refit and quite arguably better than new condition. Thank you for sharing your home and ideas with us I learned so much from this. Sorry to say I will definitely be borrowing some of your ideas should I decide to by an older yacht and refit it myself. The Heavy Susan and basically the whole Galley setup, using inexpensive shop floor mats as insulation, just so many really good ideas. So again thank you, may you have nothing but fair winds and safe travels, God Bless...
📸 Tom Holland shared the first picture from the set of the untitled SPIDER-MAN 3, which started production last week. And yes, he's actually wearing two masks, because you know, safety first ;)
While the outside looks good, inside is where Uma really shines. You have made it look luxurious and comfortable. I expect you have already learned about this word, I'd like to describe your interiour as: gezellig
Not a new or original idea.... I have seen this in homes I lived going back 40 years..... commonly used in corner cabinets. Access from above is less common.... but yes they did a great job using that space.
Best boat tour video ever!! The video is so clever and engaging! (And I have made my living my whole life making videos. I'm 62.) And the boat. Wow! I've seen plenty of brand new million dollar Swans and such like, but this is still one of the nicest boat interiors I've ever seen. Well done you two! Hope you enjoy her for decades to come and have countless fantastical adventures! You certainly deserve it for all that work and love you put into her! Amazing accomplishment!
Good stuff. Love how you took your time and thought about how the current systems could be improved. I have owned a 73 VW bus for the past 13 years and like you, the projects have never stopped. This season it's new solar and electrical systems and removing a sink and water storage that I haven't used in the past 5 years. It's all part of owning an older vehicle/house.
You guys are my idols. You are doing something that I wanted to do when I was single and, offered a 32 ft. sailboat. Love the video, I living vicariously through you two! Thanks for posting.
It is truly amazing how you have redesigned the interior of Uma! What a great job. Now, I have this "friend" who has a small 20 foot sailboat that doesn't need hardly any work done to make it as nice as Uma. You guys would be the perfect people to do the improvements. So, when will you be back in the States? : - ) Scott W
@@SailingUma Have you thought of a manual water maker? I just recently learned of them ... (not related in any way) Not cheap but solves a lot of problems. www.nauticexpo.com/prod/spectra/product-22056-484922.html
@@SailingUma Think of it like this: they produce a lot of water, very quickly. Within a few minutes, you have many many liters of water. Their power usage is measured in kwh, and you have multiple kwh of energy in batteries. Spread out water making across a few days, and collect rain water, it will meet pretty large uses of water.
There are many dreamers in the world. But you guys are among the very few who actually dare to reach out. I believe when a person starts doing whatever they truly can Allah takes up the rest and guides them towards its completion. Kudos to you guys! Enjoy your life.
This was my first video of Sailing Uma - Loved it. Makes me want to be out their sailing too! Can't wait to watching the others. Beautifully renovated!
Finally you turned my thoughts away from being “Uma is not a sailboat” to “what a fantastic sailboat Uma is”, congratulations to all fantastic solutions you have come up with. 👍👌👍
Just starting to look into purchasing a sailboat……..NOW EVERY BOAT IS 50+ years older looking thanks to the great work you two have done to yours!!!!! AWESOME JOB!
Its really nice to see someone with curly hair, like yours, sailing because it gives hope that others can too without having to choose between sailing and their curly hair🙌
It's genius what you guys did with that boat (1% inspiration 99% perspiration)! I discovered your channel years ago and binge watched it through all the renovations then followed along. What an awesome adventure! I'm so glad you didn't buy a couch! Amazing!
M U L T I F U N C T I O N A L Im familiar with uma but some of these made me nod in approval for extended lengths of time. Major tony stark moment when the cooktop came rolling out. At this point, it's the boat builders that should pay attention.
This comment is HIGHLY underrated. Multi-function FTW. Kika and Dan keep me motivated to transform my boat into it's ultimate expression of function balanced with aesthetically pleasing form.
GENIUS.....You two have consistently come up with new and innovative solutions to turn your boat into a very personal and practical living space. Fascinating insight into the reasons and thought process behind many of the details. Love the windlass switch in the shower for example. One thing that stands out to me though is the apparent lack of hand holds and numerous edges and corners. You must have to be very careful in rough conditions. I have followed you for ages and have watched all your videos. I am enjoying you more and more as you and your channel have matured. You are both extremely comfortable in front of the camera. Not only are you excellent videographers/editors/story teller, but also very professional looking presenters. My hat is off to you both. Take Care..
You guys are genius. I love how you have intentionally designed everything after deciding what works well for you, especially the Hefty Susan and flat work/yoga space. I also love your use of storage in the head. I do have a couple questions ... where is the outlet for the heater, what is the fuel source for that and where do you dispose of the stove canisters? Otherwise, you are an inspiration to first time boat buyers and should be designing boats! Well done and safe travels!!!
The heater? Do you mean the wood stove? If that's what you mean, they installed a chimney up through the deck. I'm not entirely sure what their fuel source is, but I think they mentioned it in the video where they installed it. The fuel for the stove is alcohol (most likely ethanol) so they can actually, quite easily, refill the canisters that fit in the stove from a jug/bottle of alcohol. And those would be disposed of along with their other plastic waste. As Dan said, if they accidentally spill some while refilling the canisters they just use the spill to clean the counter or the stove. Imo, it's probably the best kind of fuel because a spill doesn't damage anything, no special care needs to be taken as far as disposing, and it burns clean which is especially important in cold or bad weather when the hatches would be closed.
Really amazing how you have utilized that small space - and it was very handy to have the layout in the picture when moving to a new area in the boat. I had to stop the video a couple of times a grab my calculator to get the measurement in metric. Like many European I struggle with feets and gallons :-)
Yeah, our brains work in both metric and American, but since we bought the boat in America, all our measurements are in American units. But the stuff we buy in other countries is metric, so our boat is a total mix and we swap the terms back and forth all the time.
I think it’s just great, bright and modern feel. I wonder how many of the 1,000 losers that thumbed down this video have ever pulled off a complete Re-Fit on a large boat ? Jealousy must be what drives negative thoughts. Great job and many complements for all of your hard work and accomplishments.
She's beautiful guy's. It's amazing as long as you purchase a solid vessel, you can make her your own. Cosmetics are just time consuming and fun, but not fun sometimes lol. I bought a 1985 22 ft Sea-Ray, 20 yrs ago. I still have her today. Because of all the work I've done, and enjoy her, there's no reason to upgrade. She came with a small cuddy cabin, a sink, and even a head. I've slowly re-done everything year by year. Installed an outside shower, and many other thing's made my own. And of course all my electronics, emergency gear, and all I need to stay safe. She's good for me to do 7 day trips, or longer, with friends, family or just me. Stay safe can't wait to watch all the vids. 🙏 😎 ⛵

Seeing the work you've put in to Uma here but looking back on it from May 2023 and knowing what changes you've made in the last little while (I won't give any spoilers for those who are bingeing these videos in order) it's still incredible to see. As mentioned by others, this is an excellent tour with floor plan and cuts to befores and afters. Your ability to work as a team and envision what ways you need her to change, what ways you want her to change, what ways she cannot change due to structure, expense, complexity of what it would entail and then execute the plan. I also love the way you think outside of the traditional boat-box: the multipurpose nook, the new desk, the reimagined food storage and fridge, the head, the space that was the "garden" and became the pellet stove... And I love that the three of you aren't stagnant in that process. Granted, sometimes Uma has forced you to make changes you otherwise may not have made at the time but then... I guess that's sometimes what happens, right. One partner doesn't say a whole lot most of the time and then they make decisions that the rest of the team can only react to because the decision has been made. It's good to come back and watch videos like this every once in a while and reflect on how you're continuing to learn and adjust and grow as a team of three (cuz Uma really can't be ignored as a big personality in this adventure of yours).
This has to be one of the best executed boat tours I've ever watched. The reference to the floor plan when you talk about what remodeling you did, along with back and forth between before and after, gives a crystal clear picture of what your boat looks like inside both when you bought it and after the work. Well done!

That deserves a Nobel Prize for sailors !
This is the ultimate compliment!
I completely agree with you! ⚓
Your architect degrees have been put to good use ... your now interior designers and naval architects too !!! Well done 👍
Almost everything you design is surprising and never seen before.
yeah they should get into small boat design and model after this boat, probably buy some older mold of a boat.
Yes, I agree. Sometimes it takes someone with no experience or no preconceived ideas to be able to think outside the box and find the best solutions, doesn't it?
@@stephanieellis5399 I wonder how many boat designers put their own design to the test like you guys did.
Yes the lazy Suzanne storage is incredibly unique and useful. Even for use on land. I have never seen storage like that.
Their architecture degrees certainly give them an advantage for creative solutions the average sailor might not have.
11:46 is a simple fix, simply install two wooden blocks on the bottom of the cutting board, one on each end, that will lock in the lazy susan when the cutting board is in it's closed position. I'm still impressed you guys came up with that lazy susan idea entirely, that's next level problem solving.
Problem is then you would have to align it perfectly before closing it every time. I think magnets would work better
@@mathboy_ you could wedge the boards so it would be self aligning.
@@mathboy_ No, a rounded block on the lower end, would force it into the right position when you close it :D Unless of course it's completely off
For the fruit hammock issue, I’d sew a piece of stretchy material to the back top of the hammock, and when you set sail just pull that stretchy “lid” over the fruit/veg and either tie down or maybe clamp/Velcro down to the front of the hammock.
She's one of the most innovative and practical boats on TH-cam. You've really made her your own. Great work
My biggest reason for alcohol over propane is safety.
Anyway, enjoy & safe sailing!
dross24MA pure alcohol burns clear. You may have had an additive that allowed the flame to be seen
@@dross24MA All great information here! Glad I read these comments! We've always used propane but haven't been against alcohol, just haven't had the opportunity to use it for cooking. There is a lot to think about here.
@@johnp8189 Makes sense to me...
Cyril Culton r
Hear hear! I second that, you're absolutely right, they did an amazing job of refurbishing their boat 💥👍🏼☺️
What a nice comment! I said sort of the same thing but I didn't say it quite as simply. Mine turned into a short story! haha!
Something like, Life is meant to be a journey to enjoy, not to merely endure.
um ... no ...
living on a boat compares to a van, not so much a bicycle or motorcycle
and no, a tandem bicycle wont neccessarily get there faster, at all, sheesh, you have got to be kidding
everyone should have their own cycle
but vans can be shared
same diff for clothing,
two ppl can each wear shorts n a tshirt, without both wearing one pair of fourlegged pants
but, now that i think about it, i suppose two rich ppl could each have a big sailboat, and sail alongside eachother, around the world, i suppose.
There was a saying about early twin engine aircraft - when one engine failed, the engine would just get you to the crash site faster.
Now all the jets can climb, fly and land on one engine I assure you.
This is a masterclass in modern interior boat design!
One would think a boat building company would hire them for consulting for new ideas!
@@terrypennell416 They could actually legitimately qualify except I believe most boat designers are marine engineers and not architects. Dan, what is the skinny on that?
Amazing what you have done with your 50 year old boat. luv the practically you've managed to come up with.
Absolutely! I kept wondering if anyone has approached you with requests for design advice or even employment. Uma is definitely the roomiest 36/38 I've seen. Always fun videos. Cheers!
Yes, I was very impressed with the clever, clean, professional build!
All I can say is "Wow!" You guys have done an amazing job bringing this boat along. It looks clean, elegant and modern. Excellent work you guys!
This "lazy Susan" you invented in the corner is amazing!
gabimerlin Right??? Excelent 👌🏼👌🏼
I think the whole project is amazing.
Curb your enthousiasm Lazy Susan

They didn’t invent the lazy Susan
The interior of Uma is the coolest, most thoughtfully designed and laid out that I have ever seen! You made it fit your needs rather than trying to adjust yourselves to traditional boat design! Kudos!
This is crazy, these two could make a killing flipping houses
They could, but then they wouldn't be sailing around the world experiencing more life than most people do. Money doesn't buy everything.
Forget flipping houses...
They should be flipping old cruising sailboats!
They need a course in interior design. They almost nailed it but the back of the boat is ugly compared to the front view.
@@LambdaZetaTeke was thinking the same thing. They would make bank
I bet HGTV can make a show out of this
The interior and solutions are absolutely fantastic. An idea for the future: a company that remodels boats just the way you did yours.
Even if we were talking just about the projects in software, that would be very cool!
yes the can do like adult summer camp come learn how to fix repair ......people would pay for that i know i would.
Yes for sure good idea 💡
As I am following Uma since the beginning, this tour was like refresh tour of uma. She's a beautiful sailboat
SO, Ive watched so many videos on sailing and buying a boat. You two have hit a home run in my eyes, how cool to make your dreams come true. Your boat is outstanding and you’ve both done such a great job on the refit. Loved your video, thank you..
I think the “heavy susan” is my favorite idea, honestly didn’t even think about that.
Same it's insanely genius and I'm wondering how I can build that into my house lol
Yes! Genius!
I agree and they can easily fix the issue with the susan rotating out at sea by installing two wooden blocks on the bottom of the cutting board, one on each end. The cutting board in the closed position will lock it in.
"Hefty Susan"
I smile every time I think how you saved this beautiful old boat and her good bones smile at you every day. Boats have their unique sounds, moves, smells. A boat soul!
Finally. A highly practical conversion that has stunning design value. Did not expect to find this! Huge congrats from UK
I’ve loved following the transformation/maturity of these two as well as the transformation of Uma. Such a beautiful, clean interior (unlike others I’ve seen which are a cluttered mess). Great job you two!
This is the most amazing transformation I've ever seen! Boat builders and designers should take note of your ideas, and solutions. Well done.

That's one hell of a quote.

After 20 years of designing and living in small spaces of all types, you guys are literally the first people I've ever seen with an identical design philosophy. Our latest project (a tiny house on wheels) is eerily similar. Like, literally it looks the same inside with so many shared multipurpose solutions. Very cool. Only watched one show. These two are amazing communicators, entertainers, designers, engineers, and handy people. Love your spirit and power. This is awesome.
That Hefty Susan idea is the best pantry EVER. Absolutely Brilliant!!!
Your interior is such a breath of freshness for a boat all in white. Amazing from an Architect

The "Hefty Susan" is a unique solution that I like a lot
This was really interesting, I'm retired from the Coast Guard so I have experience with small birthing areas. The innovations in the design you came up with are great. Thanks for the excellent video.
Second time ive watched this video and it's still awesome. I really like the kitchen faucet. The way it folds flat against the wall is great. What ypu guys did to a 3k boat with dead motor is just incredible. This is so cool to see that a little imagination and hard work is all you need.
What you’ve done to the interior is incredible. Looks so much more at home than the modern and larger boats I’ve been on.
This is the first video of your guys'' I've found. I really like your vibe and your boat. I have an Islander 36 from around the same time. The 70's were good for cruising.

Thank you for the tour and explanations and thanks for taking us along on your adventurous journey. Stay safe and have fun.

Two words -" Emerald steel " for water maker Ideas They are the most amazing full time sailors.
We love Jules and Suzie they’re awesome. But DIY water makers are too noisy and consume too much power from our research.
@@SailingUma Have you thought of a manual water maker? I just recently learned of them ... (not related in any way) Not cheap but solves a lot of problems. www.nauticexpo.com/prod/spectra/product-22056-484922.html
They are not afraid to use a gen, which is fine if that works for them. But I have seen better DIY that are not as power hungry and more efficient.

Who is Major Tony Stark?
Good job.
I like their use of the word, “we”...
Take Care..
I guess you missed the grab rails running along the ceiling on port and starboard, they appear to run the entire length of the cabin.
I really can’t figure out why anyone would give “thumbs down” to this video. What would be the reason? Unbelievable job you guys did
Theyre a youtube couple that does yoga on a sailboat, someone was gonna thumbs down it
I guess they must have had their phone upside down 😆
Really amazing how you have utilized that small space - and it was very handy to have the layout in the picture when moving to a new area in the boat.
@@SailingUma There's metric and imperial. America is a strange place out on it's own. The gallons are small, I wouldn't trust their inches, LOL
