I was 9 years old when Batman debuted in 1966 and Mr. Timm is correct. It is impossible to overstate how immense this series was as a pop culture phenomenon, and how influential it was to my generation. It was unlike anything we'd seen on television -- or any other medium -- before. And while some later observers have dismissed it as not true Batman, as an avid reader I can attest it was entirely consistent with the 1960s comic book. (It also had the coolest Batmobile ever, bar none.)
When my children were little in the early 90's, this was on regularly in syndication and my kids loved it. It was how I taught them the concept of time. If we were in a car driving somewhere, when they asked, "How much longer?" I would answer by telling them how many Batman episodes. If we had an hour to go, I'd say, "Two Batman episodes." LOL. It's been thirty years since then, I wonder if they still remember that?
When Batman came to the UK we had to watch it in black and white as colour television was still new and very few people could afford a set. I was six and my friends and I were avid fans. It was almost compulsory viewing alongside Thunderbirds! We all drove our parents mad screaming out the na na na na Batman theme.
I'm a twin (I'm the girl, he's the boy..born 1962) When Batman came out, it was the ONLY show we could agree on..Quick, grab the batphone! (Our dad was a telephone man..lol)✌️ (edit) As I watch this further, I remember how scary it was in kindergarden thru 3rd grade *SoCal) having "earthquake" drills (which were actually leftover nuclear drills..which I always wondered how a desk could save anything). It was scary in the 60's. Once we had to 'line up' 1967-68 (no parental permission) to get Small Pox shots, me and bro's didn't 'catch' and they took us in a separate room and started stabbing our thighs with the shots (i count 8 scars). You will see everyone between , like 55 y.o to 65 have a big round, multi dotted scar on their arm...look! My dad was pissed!! ✌️
@derekseven1647 good point. How many of the attendance (myself as an example) to comic book movies (since Reeeve's Superman to Deadpool vs. Wolverine) were amazed and engaged by this great TV series?
@kennedyrose6766 I was born in 1962 also. Unfortunately, I didn’t have any siblings, but always loved the Batman TV series but I remember watching it in the late afternoon, not at night. And I remember it being on a UHF channel, not ABC, CBS, or NBC. I don’t remember who gave me the Polio vaccine. I wish my parents were still alive today as I have so many unanswered questions and miss them so much. I also don’t remember doing any duck and cover in school. I started first grade in 1968, I believe; maybe 1969? I know I completed 8th grade in June of 76 (I went through Catholic school in Philadelphia for 12 years and we “graduated from grade school after 8th grade). I never had a great memory! I hope my mind is still okay now at age 62! Just realized that I’m 62 and was born in 62! I don’t see a scar from the polio shot, but I do know that I had that circular dotted scar when I was younger. Can you still see yours? Sorry for rambling! Be well! Mike
I was born in 1960 so the series was massive. As they say in this, we took it 100% seriously and had to watch to see what happened with the cliffhangers! I remember the local TV station mucked up the transmission of one episode. Maybe they played the wrong episode or something. My sister and I were so upset that the last episode’s cliffhanger hadn’t been resolved that our Mum rang the station to complain.😂
I was fortunate with my family a few years ago to meet burt Ward and Adam west. At a convention in boston, it was the last Really good convention that I attended, and my son is a huge Batman fan of the original show. And when he met adam west, they had the best conversation , Mr. Ward, on the other hand was so busy trying to sell his stupid dog food that he forgot to sign my poster and I really had to jump through hoops to get him to sign it after I had paid. Just one of the experiences I remember at that show
You have to admit, Daniel Craig practically reinvented the whole franchise. Casino Royale was one of the best Bond films that I've ever seen. But I still love From Russia with Love, especially seeing Sean Connery and Robert Shaw in the same film.
@immortaltyger1569 meh Daniel Craig was a horrible choice imo. And the reinvention of Bond sucked. Became so dull and took itself way too seriously. Nobody will ever top Connery and Brosnan.
Brilliant documentary video. For me Adam West was Batman and Burton Ward was Robin. Fun series. I have all 3 seasons on Blu Ray and I have a lot Batman 66 figures that I'm collecting. I wish these figures had been available when I was a kid watching the show.
Has anyone seen the meme floating around that says "Have all the confidence of a 4 year old wearing a Batman shirt"? I have a picture of 4 year old me in a Batman shirt, Christmas 1966! I've been a fan all my life!
Amazing documentary! Thank you for releasing this video in honor of Batman’s 85th birthday! This show is still very unique and amazing! There will never be another superhero show quite like Batman 66! I’m so glad I found this show on Cable when I was a teenager. As strange as it is, it’s still a fascinating show and I can see why my big brother loves it even more than I do because he grew up with it. Happy anniversary Batman! Keep on being the hero we all know you are meant to be!
That's what I've been saying for a long time; the Batman series was representative of the comic's silver age. It was colorful and wasn't afraid to be goofy. That's why the Tim Burton movies were so gothic and serious; they were influenced by the Alan Moore and Frank Miller takes in the 80's.
I can still remember all of the actors/actresses who played each villain! Even the obscure ones! One of my favorites was The Minstrel (Van Johnson). They should have used that villain again!
So brilliant. As a kid you just saw action, fun and colour. Then as you got older you saw spoof, cynicism, comedy. That shark fight in the movie is priceless. Cesar Romero the unquestionably best Joker (sorry, Jack). In fact all the best versions of the baddies. Oh, and you saw Julie Newmar And Yvonne Craig
I am 62 now and an actor. I had a Batman Lamp and a Batman Lunch box, and Batman And Robin toys. That was our show and to hear it only ran for 3 years was amazing
I was fortunate to see the very first episodes of the Batman series when they first aired at about 8 yrs old. Adam and Burt were my Batman and Robin. The show was an absolute must watch for us kids.
I grew up in the 80s and 90s, and it was an interesting time to be a batman fan - which I was, diehard. According to my parents, Batman was one of my first words. However, I did not have an established, preferred version of him. I remember seeing the 89 movie when I was only four or five years old and loving it despite how dark it was for a child that age. I remember watching the 66 series in syndication religiously and loving it too. And I remember when BTAS became my favorite Saturday morning cartoon. Despite how tonally different they all were, they were all still Batman to me, and I was obsessed with all of them.
I always had to settle for the kids at school talking about last night's episode since we had only one b&w tv, three channels (ABC and CBS snowy reception), and the TV played what dad wanted to see. So we got Daniel Boone and Mission Impossible instead of Batman or The Monkees.
Just the theme song was the best. Granted not the best lyrics, hmmm let's see what comes after batman? How bout ... Batman! Genius! But the whole thing the way they filmed it the costumes the henchmen it was all collectively, really really cool.
Rest in peace Adam 🙏🏻and all the cast who has passed. I love Batman 👍🏻😄 great show. I'm a gen x but i grew up watching the show. It's my first time getting into comics as well. Frank Miller got me hooked, then, Tim Burton and Micheal Keaton's 89 Batman...👍🏻 That's my Batman. Always will be. As far as the creation..Bill finger the real creator.
I wish Batman had gone more than 3 seasons. But by the time 1969 came along, the world was full of violence and unrest and people's tastes changed and wanted more realistic TV shows.
Wow, does this ever bring back great memories for me! I was born in 1953 and was in 7th and 8th grade in middle school when the Batman TV show was on. My middle school friends and I absolutely loved the show and it was the hot topic of conversation on the school days after the show twice a week. From what I remember Batman was way more popular with boys than girls in middle school. I was so sad when the show was canceled after just three seasons, but it was a lot of fun while it lasted!

When Batman came to the UK we had to watch it in black and white as colour television was still new and very few people could afford a set. I was six and my friends and I were avid fans. It was almost compulsory viewing alongside Thunderbirds! We all drove our parents mad screaming out the na na na na Batman theme.
I still watch this in 2024 absolutely timeless 🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🐧🐧🐧🐧👍🤠🦅⭐✌️✌️
I wouldn’t say it’s timeless…
You're right it is timeless
This is truly the TV show that started it all but comic book Mania into live action
Born the same year and will always love this show.
This is awesome :)
@derekseven1647 good point. How many of the attendance (myself as an example) to comic book movies (since Reeeve's Superman to Deadpool vs. Wolverine) were amazed and engaged by this great TV series?
@kennedyrose6766
I was born in 1962 also.
Be well!
Mike
And the word 'HOLY' was never the same again...
Damn Julie Newmar.
Just one of the experiences I remember at that show
My dad was born in 79 and loves it. I was born in 19 and I love it.
Yep...he's right. For me, the true Batman is Adam West. He's the first one to whom I was introduced, just like Sean Connery is the true James Bond.
@@immortaltyger1569 Craig pursed his lips too much, sullen, leading lady in "Casino" was flat-figured and dull, Connery and Moore the best!
@@immortaltyger1569the fight on the train.
@@gregoryjgarcia3862 Exactly! And I seem to remember an interesting masseuse early in that movie.
Brilliant documentary video. For me Adam West was Batman and Burton Ward was Robin. Fun series. I have all 3 seasons on Blu Ray and I have a lot Batman 66 figures that I'm collecting. I wish these figures had been available when I was a kid watching the show.
Seeing the 66 car in the arcade games and Assetto Corsa, is always a treat. Such a sleek beauty.
Has anyone seen the meme floating around that says "Have all the confidence of a 4 year old wearing a Batman shirt"? I have a picture of 4 year old me in a Batman shirt, Christmas 1966! I've been a fan all my life!
Julie Newmar, still looks like a leading lady, and just sheer class......
Frank Miller didn't start the"darker" Batman. Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams and Steve Englehart and Marshall Rogers did that in the '70s.
Thank you for taking me down memory lane.
Holy strawberries, Batman! We're in a real jam!😂❤
That's what I've been saying for a long time; the Batman series was representative of the comic's silver age. It was colorful and wasn't afraid to be goofy. That's why the Tim Burton movies were so gothic and serious; they were influenced by the Alan Moore and Frank Miller takes in the 80's.
Precisely, old chum.
I think Burton's movies have some fine goofy moments
- Honey, I'm home! Oh I forgot I'm not married...
It may have been a 'spoof' and campy, but being how the Batman comics were at the time, the show was spot on to the readings.
I can still remember all of the actors/actresses who played each villain! Even the obscure ones! One of my favorites was The Minstrel (Van Johnson). They should have used that villain again!
So fun and campy. That, and The Monkees, were two of my favorites. And Irwin Allen shows.
I loved Batman when I was a child in the 70’s. I had a Batman suit I got for Christmas one year too. My younger brother got the Robin suit.
Batman 4-ever r.i.p. adam west peace & love.😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
ADAM WEST will always be my Batman.
VINCENT PRICE AS EGGHEAD IS EPIC!
Eggs-quisite acting!

Eggsquiset example

@@robertcuny934 That was an eggstraordinary response. lol.
Well done. Even though I only saw this in repeats in the 1970s, this was my Batman!
I am 62 now and an actor. I had a Batman Lamp and a Batman Lunch box, and Batman And Robin toys. That was our show and to hear it only ran for 3 years was amazing
Holy best ever, Batman!
I was fortunate to see the very first episodes of the Batman series when they first aired at about 8 yrs old. Adam and Burt were my Batman and Robin. The show was an absolute must watch for us kids.
And on twice a week! Same Bat Time Same Bat channel.
This is fabulous. I watch the series still now its on bluray.
One of Warner Bros absolute gems, and global at that. Thanks from here in the UK.
this show was absolutely brilliant, and ranks with the all time best of Television
Adam west was and still be my batman forever, God bless your soul🦇❤
Never ever heard someone sum up the joy and timing of Batman - "Batman showed up in primary colors!" yes he did. Thank You Batman!
Thx. Bat66 & JQ & H/J ( Cartoon ) are the best. Many thanks to all of you🍻
I love the 1960s Batman series :)
I have so much to say about it - but I think I'll leave it at that.
I always had to settle for the kids at school talking about last night's episode since we had only one b&w tv, three channels (ABC and CBS snowy reception), and the TV played what dad wanted to see. So we got Daniel Boone and Mission Impossible instead of Batman or The Monkees.
Thank you for this video
That was Awesomw! It really me back .
❤❤❤❤❤❤great huge fan of the 60s batman tv series
Just the theme song was the best. Granted not the best lyrics, hmmm let's see what comes after batman? How bout ... Batman! Genius! But the whole thing the way they filmed it the costumes the henchmen it was all collectively, really really cool.
Very well done!
My favourite line was the Penguin"Batman,Batgirl why I'm surrounded by Bats"
Rest in peace Adam 🙏🏻and all the cast who has passed. I love Batman 👍🏻😄 great show. I'm a gen x but i grew up watching the show. It's my first time getting into comics as well. Frank Miller got me hooked, then, Tim Burton and Micheal Keaton's 89 Batman...👍🏻 That's my Batman. Always will be. As far as the creation..Bill finger the real creator.
Jill St. John in the first episode dancing with Batman comes to mind.
Mike Uslan will never admit that Batman wasnt dark and scarey from the 1940s to 1970
I wish Batman had gone more than 3 seasons. But by the time 1969 came along, the world was full of violence and unrest and people's tastes changed and wanted more realistic TV shows.
I want to watch this show again. I used to watch it when he reruns with my dad all the time. I now have kids of my own, we are SO gonna watch this.
Holy Julie Newmar is STILL gorgeous, BATMAN!! 😍😍😍😍😍
Of course I wasn't born when Batman came out in the 60s but watching Batman on syndication was absolutely great. I loved it
😎👍Very totally wonderfully cool and very nicely greatly fabulously well done indeed Sir's, I was 8yrs old when Batman came out in 66 and watched every week it was on and to this day and I have the entire 3 seasons of the series on DVD and have many collectibles die cast Batmobiles and vehicles and various figures and so forth from the series indeed!👌.
I am shocked and appalled at the tear (or worse, a stain ?) that appears on Batman's uniform @7:30. What has he been up to? Holy innuendo Robin!
Stuff like that wasn’t visible on 60s televisions. Bet you never noticed the fish line holding their capes in place either. It’s quite noticeable on the Bluray.
I watched the four guys doing the introduction. I felt exactly the same way!
Happy 85th Anniversary, Batman fans!
💙🌃🐦Burt Ward & Adam West 🦇🌠💙
