Medical MaryJane-er here. If you want a seamless cruise, DO NOT bring the wacky tobacky. MMJ has replaced three prescriptions for me, which is great. But, I keep the prescriptions on hand for when I travel for this very reason. Part of the terms and conditions for getting my medical card were to agree to not bring it out of state. I don't even want to risk it by putting gummies in with my Vitamin C. I'm not putting a vacation, on which I spent $5-7k, at risk for some weed.

What people may not realise is that where the ship is registered trumps where the passenger is from. Just because it is legal to use a substance where a customer lives, be it medical or otherwise, if it is illegal where the ship is registered then this means it is illegal upon the ship at all times as that countries laws apply when you are aboard the ship. Additionally, if a substance is illegal at any port of call, then while in that country's waters (within 12mi of the coastline) then any substance that is illegal in that country also applies to the ship and all aboard, and as such, those laws will supersede any laws that says a substance is legal from any other jurisdiction, even those laws from where the ship is registered.
This is why it is illegal for MJ in the Caribbean/Bahamas, numerous countries there do not even permit it for medical purposes.
And if you’re thinking "but I’m not visiting a port where it is a banned substance" …well situations arise, such as weather changing the itinerary, or a medical event arises that may necessitate stopping at a port that such substance is illegal, which then puts the ships owners, and the passenger at risk of legal action in that country.
So just know that it is not the cruise lines looking to spoil your enjoyment, it is the fact that there are just too many unknowns and possible legal consequences should such substances be allowed onboard, regardless of if it is for medical or recreational purposes.
Hope this helps viewers understand the reasoning behind it.

Let's be real.. a lot of people don't even understand that different states have different laws, let alone when they're traveling abroad. People are pretty silly and I wonder how a lot of them are even still alive or not in prison at this point.

@littleeva very dangerous. We always hear about the dangers of smoking, but rarely alcohol. Like smoking can take 10 years off your life, on average.. drinking can take 20 years off your life, on average! Drinking has become an important part of our culture and really it always has been. Even in ancient times people drank wine. It's also in the Bible which is the main reason why the western world doesn't want to give it up. There are a lot of unnecessary deaths due to alcohol every single year.

While the "off ship country goes down the tubes" with drug use illegal or not, and among other things, at least I can cruise without having to deal with this stuff in a confined area. I can't drive down the road even early in the morning without being behind 2 or 3 people smoking the crap ahead of me. (as long as they don't cause an accident, I'm good) Or being on a boat at the springs next to people smoking it over their babies head with the children breathing it directly. You do know that the federal government says CBD from hemp with the low THC is legal right? And, it still isn’t allowed on Caribbean cruises.
Should everyone have to give up the legal in the US drugs if one of the ports has a ban on for example Ritalin? How about Sudafed or Tylenol PM?
Don’t get me wrong, I hate the smoke and I’m wary of CBD, but there is a point of no return here somewhere. Right now I’m not sure how you verify the CBD is the legal type but for other things I think you shouldn’t have to leave it home, just not take it into port!

However, that is not the topic here. He broke a rule, and they were right to kick him off the ship for it. If you break their rules, including bringing contraband on board, they are allowed to kick you off. This is why it's important to research trips before you go on them lol. If you are 7 years sober, that means you must've had a problem with it. Many people think weed is not addictive, but it is psychologically addictive. Many people feel they cannot be without it. I was thinking Carnival would be the best option for me and my fiances first cruise, but as ive researched, ive found im actually leaning towards Royal Caribbean. Their suites look spectacular and i mean when you think of the sights and everything youll be seeing, it really isnt all that super expensive. I mean sure it takes some saving (both money and vacation and/or sick time from work), but it can be done. If youre not very good at saving money, you can even have State and/or Federal taxes take out more money from your check that you'll get back at the end of the year. You can get back a nice little chunk of change back or it can help you a lot if you have to pay in at the end of the year. Ive had to start doing that because a couple years ago i owed $1,700 in taxes. Somehow my job put down that i had multiple dependents and they didnt take out enough money throughout the year. No worse feeling than going to file taxes, thinking you're getting a return, and end up owing them almost 2 grand 😂. Anyways, im rambling now.
