For this type of large game fishing, do you use a loop to loop connection from your fly line to your leader? Or do you cut the loop off and tie the butt section directly to the fly line. If you do the latter, which knot do you use?
I cut the welded loops off and then I put my own 50lbs braided loops on, aqua seal them and then loop to loop with the leader… have a look th-cam.com/video/0Mu0VjLVWDo/w-d-xo.html
Have you tried a triple surgeons knot instead of the bimini twist? It’s easier to tie and creates a smaller knot that travels through the guides easier.
great video! What loop do you make on your fly line to connect this loop to? i no most guys cut the welded loop off the fly line and make a stronger one, interested in what your method is. Thanks!!
I've never heard of using spinning braid as backing. My question, while it my be a bit over kill for a trout reel it seems to have a lower price point and more durablity than Dacron, why not use it for all ones fly reels? Is there a disadvantage to spinning braid? Thanks
I use spinning braid on my trout reels. It is cheaper, pluss I can put more backing by using something like 0,10 multifilament instead of 20 lbs backing, just in case it is needed :D
Hi there, I check my backing every couple of years, normally spin it off and make sure there is no salt corrosion on the spool, but if it’s braid it should last a long time if it has not been nicked on coral…. I.e it should not need changing unless it’s damaged.
Probably, but I would suspect the variation on the circumference is not going to vary enough to make the difference in a whole yard… I reckon it’s good enough! 😄
Nice four limbs method for Bimini Knot...It does help for first tightening...

What type of line spooling station is that? Very slick!

Hi peter when should i change my backing

thank you x
As a point of reference how much 80lbs braid did you get onto the gulfstream?
Thank you for the reply.
Nice vid. That's for the info
🤔as the amount of line gets less surely the counter becomes inaccurate
